I love taking lessons from Vidal. I learned about him as he works on my husband's guitars. I started my lessons with my acoustic-electric violin, but eventually took him my very old German violin for him to check out. He put in so much work on it, and it sounds better than it ever does! Last month I traded a couple of pedals I wasn't using for a replica Kirk Hammett Demonology ESP guitar. When I brought it home and tried the Floyd Rose tremolo, the springs popped out the back and the tremolo was left hanging off the guitar by the strings. Back to Hi-Line music. We were welcomed in and given paperwork to fill out while we waited. I was able to get all paperwork filled out *FYI the paperwork on the website is useless save your time and just fill it out when you get there. My son chose to do the flute this year but I was thankful that if he wants to change instruments that is something we can do. The flute that we are renting is clean and well taken care of. We were required to purchase the cleaning kit for the flute but the cost of that is minimal (I believe we paid less than $20 for the cleaning kit). The cost to rent the flute is around $30 a month and it is an automatic withdrawal. The shop is huge but the showroom could use some work as it does feel cramped for how big the space is. It could probably use some updating but for the purpose of this review we had a great experience. The process was quick and we are happy with the instrument. read more

Shelly was absolutely unprofessional and gave away my spot and cancelled my lessons for no reason. When I texted to get clarification she completely ignored my text. I was shocked and my kids were beyond disappointed. We attended for several months. Also, the front desk person was not inviting and appeared to be annoyed with any questions I had regarding the books and instruments. Lastly, , the place is very dirty and old. The rooms are small and claustrophobic and not well kept! I do not recommend. read more

I wanted to share a recent experience with this business. I am a professional guitar player. My band friends gave me a gift certificate to this store for my birthday. I have a new guitar that needed a setup. I took the gift certificate to the store to get the guitar adjustment done, (1/15/24), Laura the owner took my order. I said its a gift from my friends. She wrote down the the details including new strings, and said it would be about 1 week or less. I said okay 1 week, giving me enough time until the next gig. Well to make this short. I called today (day 10.1/25/24), and left a message asking where the guitar status was with store person. Mind you I had previously called three times, and three times Laura told me any day now. On this today's call I told him of urgency of the situation needing the guitar. He said someone would call me back. I did get a callback with in a hour from the repair person today (1/25/24). On the phone he was livid with me, because I dared complain about my late, no repair guitar. He said he called me yesterday, but I have no record of any prior text messages, or voice mail. He also said that no one gave him a timeline to finish my guitar. And that he has many NAMM customers to service, and that he did not have time for this. To him I was not important, and to him I missed my chance. On phone he continued to rant not letting me explain my self. Now he is angry and did not want to work on my guitar. He said, "you can come pick it up". Of course when I arrived, and he saw me, and the so called "luthier" took off to hide some where else in the store. I had to deal with another uncaring staff. I had to use up my gift certificates to buy store merchandise, because they don't give back the hard earn cash you give them. Of course Laura the owner was not there. I am not happy doing this negative complain, but some one should have stepped up and taken responsibility. In all my years dealing with music stores on the East and West Coast, this is utterly the worst experience. No body cared. No one apologized, no one wanted to try and understand my situation. I have a lot musician friends I and I will share this horrific experience. Giving it one star is painful enough. It should be minus 0. Do not give them your business! read more

Bought an instrument for my daughter the lady said oh ya if she changes her mind or music interest we buy back if you bought it new. Well guess what they don't do that after all. I was on my way to look into another instrument for my daughter as she wanted to try flute this year. After getting a call from my wife telling me they won't buy it back after all for whatever there reason is probably broke who knows. I turned right around and went on offer up and found what my daughter wanted. Not to mention we had tried on several occasions to get lessons for my daughter and every time it was cancelled at the last minute for whatever there reason was probably a lie like the buy back lie. Or probably there teachers really don't know what there doing is what is believe. They sure talked a good game about how great they are and how the guys was some legendary musician that taught the world to play. It's pretty said when you live in a small community and this is how you run your business. You should close the doors and give it up we'd be better off. So before you waste your time and money here do yourself a favor and shop around you'll be so happy you did. As for the instrument my daughter gave it to her friend that is giving it a go and we bought her new instrument from a much better less arrogant music store my daughter and her friend are both over joyed with how it worked out. Feels good to be able help another kid get into to music worked out better to give it away then sell it back to have these people take advantage of yet another family. Maybe it's time to close up and retire I'm sure you've burned your fair share by now. And folks trust me when i say you will be much better off shopping elsewhere. Want to feel valued as a customer and a fellow musician?? Hi-Line Music is PERFECT for that! I've been here a couple of times, and every time I've always felt extremely happy with their service. The first time around, I was in the market for a good acoustic guitar and was ignored for 45 minutes at Guitar Center; I left and immediately went here and received an hour and half detailed explanation of different kinds of wood that make the guitars, the different strings, the style of brands, etc (so much information, I don't even remember!). Needless to say I walked out with a guitar in my hands that very day. I went in yesterday to get my strings changed (properly) and basically got a lesson on how to do it on my own! I even asked them to take a look at the action on my guitar and Ryan (really cool guy who was helping us), gave us his honest opinion and talked us out of it! He actually convinced us not to give them money haha! You can't get any more sincere than the great people that work at Hi-Line! My guitar and I go to school full-time in San Diego, but I always wait until I come home so we can go to Hi-Line. It's clear that every worker there is passionate about music and they KNOW THEIR STUFF! Go here! Support what they're doing! read more

I have been coming here for years. It's a small business music shop. They sell and rent instruments. They also sell music supplies. They have guitars,drums and bass but also flutes, saxophones,clarinets,violoins, trumpets,mallets, trombones,oboes,and even ukuleles for sale or to rent. They also have lessons. The most affordable ones that I have seen anywhere. The staff is always nice and helpful. Vidal Lepe is a great teacher for kids or adults. He is really knowledgeable. This place is a local treasure and we're lucky to have them here! They are well stocked and every time we come in we are greeted with a friendly smile. They have tons o' stuff to browse instrument-wise, and they have plenty of important accessories including a decent amount of Latin percussion and instructional books. My daughter has been taking piano lessons here for many months (ask for Shelly, she is one of the nicest people ever) and they offer instruction/rentals on many other instruments for a very reasonable rate with patient and knowledgeable staff! At a time when public funding for the arts is at an all-time low we should appreciate places like this for the vital service they provide. I called for music lessons for my son, took the instructor two days to call back. When he did we discussed days for lessons and the first day I suggested that I was available he laughed at me. The second day I suggested he responds "nope." Seriously need to work on customer service. Can't imagine how he would have treated my son during lessons. Best music store I ever went to. Great employees, best private teachers, and even better repair people. I had lesions there for 2 years and they where the best. Then the repair man get it don't. I have been there and on most occasions got my instrument back the same day or that weekend and that's with me taking it in on Friday after school, where other places keep it for weeks at a time.
