I have wanted to try this restaurant for years, but the timing did not work out until a new location opened in Edwardsville and I found myself in the neighborhood while hungry. My husband and I each ordered a burger and fries. His burger was fully dressed with fresh tomato, lettuce, and the usual goodies. I had a single with cheese and onion straws. The onion straws are a bit more spiced than I like, but I like them to taste of crispy high quality onion and nothing else. All of the food was fresh. The fries were perfect. I ordered a side of cheese sauce and it was not bad. The Edwardsville location was clean, good parking, and relatively comfortable. There is interesting, brightly colored decor/murals. The service was good. The food takes a little while (20 minutes for us) and it is expensive- 2 burgers, 2fries, 2 sodas for $45. But, the quality is very good. It's hard to ruin a simple burger, but over cooking it until it's crunchy will do it. The menu was interesting, so I had hopes of it being good. Those hopes were dashed when the food appeared. Besides the burger being over-cooked, the fries were cold and tough. Fast service doesn't make up for food quality. My friend was unable to use her points from another of their locations. I wanted just a light lunch, so my order was simple. I enjoyed a single smash burger with Pepper Jack Cheese. My garnishes were kept simple, too. I had them top my burger only with; onion, pickle, catsup and mustard. It was a tasty burger. My side, of course was a small order of fries. No burger is complete without its fries. The fries were a golden color and had a crispy outside. You gotta enjoy a fry that has some crunch to it. They were seasoned lightly and I dipped them in their house catsup that was available on all the tables. Since it was my birthday, I treated myself to a milk shake. I choose, Dreamsicle as my flavor. It was, thick and creamy rich. I personally would have liked a little more orange flavor, but it was still good and flavorful. The staff was friendly and hustling to make sure everyone was satisfying. The dining room was minimalistic, which is okay. I swear I already wrote a review, but I guess not! This place is amazing! Absolutely delicious burgers and the fries seem to be seasoned with Lawry's, which is always a bonus. The servers are great, too. It's one of those spots where you order at the counter, but they bring your food out for you, so it's streamlined and quick. The overall vibe is very casual and hipster-y. So happy they put a location in Edwardsville! We recently visited and enjoyed the giant mural while eating. It has an industrial-style interior with high ceilings and plenty of seating. They have dedicated bussers who clear the tables and runners bring your food out to you. We didn't wait long at all for our food and when we got it; it was piping hot, just how I like it. I got a cowboy burger, which is a mess of a burger, and I mean that in a good way. As I got a side of fries and a root beer float, I couldn't finish it. The root beer float is large and comes with a milkshake straw and the stirring spoon. I really liked the level of seasoning on the fries and appreciated they were so hot and fresh. My husband got the sweet potato tots as well as the Arch D-luxe and enjoyed them both. We will be back! read more

Hi-Pointe Drive In is located in a newish strip mall in the area associated with the Trace on the Parkway. It faces IL-157, not far from the corner of Governors Parkway. It doesn't look like a "drive in," but more like a place you'd go in to dine or pick up. Outside, I like the Big-Boy-style statue near the door. Inside, I like the interior design, which has a sort of Industrial feel with exposed metal framing and HVAC ductwork (look up). It's clean, and relatively new, all very nice. I also love the fact that burger wrappers and fry bags were paper, compostable. Again, very nice. The staff was friendly, and my order prepared quickly. The set up here is like many reviews of the style, "I wanted to love HPDI, but ..." For me, the "but" part had to do with the food. Small portions on the tater tots and French fries. Cheese sauce kind of like a watery queso. Double burger, nothing more spectacular than McDonald's patties, though larger. A "lettuce wrapped" burger was more like burger-and-fixins' between two wilted leaves of romaine (which actually made me appreciate how well Red Robin does a Wedgie burger). HPDI has a fun vibe and nice space. But if I want a good burger and am in charge of the choosing, I probably will pick another place. read more

We came here mid-week, mid-afternoon to satisfy our burger craving. We missed the lunch crowd so the restaurant was almost empty (yay). The restaurant looked bright and inviting nonetheless. Wife ordered a single cheeseburger (4 oz) and I decided to try the chopped cheese. Similar to what some call a "loose meat" sandwich, the chopped cheese is 8 oz of coarsely chopped and seasoned ground beef topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and mayo on a soft baguette. It was amazing and, as expected, quite filling so I skipped the fries. She loved her cheeseburger. The ground beef here is top notch, very flavorful. She said the fries were pretty good, fresh, hot and crispy. She's very picky about the seasoning so I suspect that is what put her off a bit. The only real downside was the tomatoes. Being out of season, they were firm and tasteless. The service was fast and very friendly. Staff even came by to take our trays, something we've typically had to do ourselves. The total with drinks was around $30, not bad for the quality of the food. We'll definitely be back and I'll probably try one of their other creations. read more

I went for dinner on a Wednesday night because it reminded of the Big Boy restaurants I grew up with as a kid. Super friendly staff, but the food was terrible and took a long time. It cost 26 for a single burger, fries and a milkshake. The specialty milkshake was good, but cost $3 more than a standard shake, which was not posted anywhere. I was one of those locals that was excited when Edwardsville was finally getting a Hi Pointe Drive-In restaurant. Wasn't a fan of their McCausland location but I enjoyed their downtown one. The food was always great. And I can say the same about the Edwardsville location. You order, they give you a table number and just a few minutes later it's ready. I had a craving for fries and so we decided to try Hi-Pointe. It was about 4 pm on a week day. Place was empty. Cashier was pleasant. We got a cheese burger, fries, an oreo shake and an orange cream shake. The smash burger was good, buns were super fresh, fries were way too spicy (my lips were burning) and salty. The Oreo shake was interesting (had a big smear of the stuff that is in the middle of the Oreos down the outside of the glass with bits of cookie stuck to that. Wasn't super appetizing. The Oreo shake was tasty and helped relieve the burning from the fries. The Orange Cream shake was delicious. Both came in a shake glass with a large quantity of whip cream on the top and a Boba straw. Not good enough to win over other places that have the same type of menu. Thanks though. read more

The service here is very good. I have to be honest the people here are extremely nice and on Tuesdays, I believe they are very inventive with the menu. I love to see that because it gives you some variety. I especially like the grain bowl that they do. It's my personal favorite thing here. I know this is supposed to be a review about burgers and they have a pretty good one, but that grain bowl is where it's at for me.. grilled chicken, avocado, quinoa, and zesty lime vinaigrette complete the whole thing. I've wanted to try Hi-Pointe since it opened, but I wanted the newness to wear off. I stopped in for lunch at the end of the lunch rush. The exterior is designed to look like shipping containers. The inside is decorated with an industrial feel. The inside is very "basic" but in a nice way. The young lady at the counter was super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the double cheeseburger, fries, soda, and chocolate shake. After tip, $27. I got my soda and found a table. The soda selections are what you would find n the sister chain, Sugarfire BBQ, very eclectic odd brands, but very good. The dining area was clean and had plenty of seating. Varying sizes of tables, some high tops and very open. Shortly after finding a table, they delivered a fantastic handmade chocolate shake. Whipped cream and drizzled chocolate sauce on top. The shake was chocolatey and delicious. Within a few minutes they delivered my meal. The burger was served open faced and presented somewhat like a McDonald's McDLT, hot on one side and cold on the other. The ingredients were fresh and the burger was hot enough to melt the cheese. The bun was fresh but still had some strength to it so it wouldn't fall apart. The beef was like a smash burger patty with that crispy edge. The fries were hot and fresh and seasoned up nicely. It was a very good meal. The only "beef" I have is the price. I know this is a premium burger joint, but for 2 people, you're looking at $55-60. It is definitely a nice treat or for an occasion, but based on price alone. I couldn't make it a daily driver. That aside, it was a great experience! read more

This place is terribly run and staffed. I went in on a Wednesday night around dinner time. Not to many people in there and it looked like they were filling a catering order. Those can suck and they only had 3 people working at the time. I placed my order for a single burger in fries. I waited for 20 minutes and was given no burger or order update. I'm that time I watched them bring out the wrong side for another guest which took them over 5 minuets to correct! We finally got around to trying one of the newer restaurants in town and left mostly satisfied. My wife's burger (single) and my turkey burger were both exceptional. And the fries were good, too. However, three things, one in particular, kept me from granting 5 stars. First- skip the $2 cheese French-fry sauce; it's awful. Next- why do they ask me to add a tip to my credit card swipe when it is mostly self service and I haven't even tasted the food yet? Lastly - order water to drink. I'm so used to responding with "Sprite please" when asked what I want to drink that I don't usually check the price as it is pretty much the same among restaurants of all calibers. They didn't have Sprite but something similar called "Life" which was actually pretty good. However I had sticker shock when checking the bill and seeing that I was charged $4.50 for a small soft drink! That is enough for me to cry "uncle" and start drinking water. Let me recap: Great burgers, pay cash and tip what you feel is reasonable, don't order cheese sauce or soft drinks. read more
