I've said it before and I'll say it again, a trip to Edwardsville is not complete without a visit to Northside Dairy Haven. In addition to the sweet treats, one of the highlights of stopping by and even driving by, is reading their marque. The messages are always, witty or supportive of another local business. I love it when local supports local. Recently, I had a Chocolate Covered Strawberry concrete and I liked it more than my typical favorite M&M concrete. The chocolate ice cream with flakes of solid chocolate and pieces of strawberry made my day. I've also enjoyed, chocolate and vanilla twist cones, but the orange sherbet and vanilla is still my favorite. I keep saying, I need to try their burgers, so I'll say it again. I gotta try their burgers. The restaurant has a nostalgic look and feel. The staff is young high school and college students and they're always friendly. My first stop was a great one. Ordered a char cheese burger which came with fresh LTO and a special sauce (similar to thousand island). I also grabbed a kiddie cone. Burger was excellent for the price. Ice cream was good soft serve. Service was kind and my food came out in about 10min. Kids were running around and family's were happily chowing down. It's a great old fashioned atmosphere. If you drive past this place, it's time to finally make the stop! Little hiccup: kids cone is 1.50 on the board but I was charged 2$. Such a great little place to get your fix! So many different things on the menu, but we opted for a #6 cheeseburger, fries, and a Frostee root beer.. They carry some harder to find food items like fried okra & a pizza burger. They have burgers, sliders, a specialty charco burger, coney dogs, grilled ham & cheese, a few different fries, onion rings, and since new ownership, a pork steak platter special. Service is delightful but have some patience everything is made to order but does not take an excessive amount of time. Drive thru moves fast- walk up is always available. I'm from California visiting my sister and her family, this was a place they said I had to experience before I left. I got the Goldbrick which was recommended by the lovely employee. It was one of the best sweet treats I've ever had! It was filled with chunks of heath and sprinkles and I believe butterscotch was mixed in as well. Northside Dairy Haven is a local landmark in Edwardsville, I can remember going there as a child and still love going to this day! While I personally cannot remember much about this place as a child, I will say that the ice cream is still very tasty and if you are given the opportunity to visit I highly recommend you go with their amazing vanilla and orange sherbet twist, it's delicious! Seating is limited to only a few tables outside, however you can take your frozen treat and enjoy it in the comfort of your car, which is what most people will do. Service here is friendly, mostly high schoolers, however they do a great job. Prices are fair and reasonable. Overall Northside is a long time ice cream stop for those living in Edwardsville, there is no doubt that it will be around for another 20+ years! read more

My husband and I just came back from there home. It's our first time having food there. I had charco cheese which was delicious and juicy, fries were crisp and hot, but I am not a huge fan of seasoned fries so I wiped it off. How has this place not been reviewed!?! Man, I can't even explain how good this place is. Best soft serve in the STL area, hands down. AND they're the only one who has coconut hard shell dip. (Try it, it is amazing!) They're very accommodating if you want to add or omit anything from your ice cream concoction too. I may be biased, but I swear they have the best caramel I've ever had. Oh, and their pecans for their turtles are buttered and salted... heaven! Oh yeah, its also the cheapest around. If the ice cream isn't enough to get you there, they have delicious charcoburgers. Don't even bother with the regular hamburgers, make sure you get the charcoburgers. They are a different patty and they are chargrilled. Yum! Their fries are amazing too, they use some special seasoning mix on them that is great. Don't get those confused with the 'seasoned fries' which are actually curly fries. I also highly recommend the fried cauliflower... its cauliflower and cheese breaded and deep fried.... be still my heart! Its only open spring-fall and closes when the weather turns bad. It's better than the one I've always eaten from the Caseyville Dairy Haven. But the show stopper is the absoloutely DE-LISH fried cod (tail hand breaded) on rye with pickles, tarter sauce and onions. 3 nice size crispy golden pieces piled on with tons of fixins wrapped in that beautiful white paper. The tarter sauce almost has a light sweetness too it but not too much. And the flavor of the fish is just divine. OMG the fish is fantastic. I can't wait to get it again. The fries were a lil thicker than McD's and just as good or better cause they weren't overly salted, fried perfectly, and hot hot hot! Charco burger is good for kids. Lots of fixins and ok but not that OMG I gotta have it again feeling. Not saying it's bad, just typical, but fixed up well. Finally, the girls work hard, quickly, and with a smile. Northside Dairy Haven has been a part of my life since I was a little kid. My mom used to work here when I was really young, and I still have vague memories of the girls giving me candy and ice cream. But that is not what makes this place the best hole in the wall place to eat in Edwardsville. It's all about the belly bombs, or at least, what they used to call the belly bombs. Three small burgers, the perfect meat to cheese ratio, an order of their uniquely seasoned fries, and of course the ice cream. But if you are more hungry, there's the Okie Burger, the Pizza Burger, Charco Burgers, fried cauliflower, and so much more to fill your tummy! I'm telling you, if in the Edwardsville area, this is a place you want to look up. It is closed a few months every year for the cold weather, so make sure you head over before the winter months hit us. I promise you, this is the best little secret in town! read more

Here from out of town for a baseball tournament. Found this restaurant on Yelp. It was delicious. We got a variety of things from a burger to milkshakes. Everything was great. Only gave 4 stars because the girl working there was super sweet and friendly. However, I'm not sure if it was the owners or what, but an older man and woman working there were super unfriendly. I tired to smile at them twice and even tried to talk to them to compliment the food. They wouldn't make eye contact with me and I tried to get their attention twice and they looked away.
