I'm not sure about this place y'all! The sushi was good but the food had no flavor! The staff was standing randomly in the middle of the buffet area just eyeing people. The rest of the staff was trifling because they asked me four times in ten minutes if I wanted water and if I needed my check. There were people having full blown conversations tables apart. Nothing here was amazing except for the service. Our waitress was great - sincere, prompt and quick on the draw. The same goes for the kitchen staff bringing out more trays of food. I wasn't a fan of the food. If you want sushi, go elsewhere. If you want some cheap and bland seafood dishes, with quantity then here you go. The selection is varied and they don't formally charge you if you waste food, but they discourage you through signs. The prices are low and the quality of ingredients are average. The hibachi grill is nice, because you get to pick what gets cooked. The service is good in the sense that the waitress is hardworking and polite. Sushi selection is poor as expected given the low price point. Great place, it's good price, place is big, even when it gets really busy don't feel crowded, food its not fine dinning but it's damn good and better then 80% of any Chinese restaurant in this or any other town! Worth the money. And the staff the boss are all super friendly, even just get to go box its way better quality then any Chinese take out in town. Cheaper too. I lived in south east Asia for 5 years, I can say that for sure. Seafood are good really good. Shrimp cooked perfectly which lots of Chinese place just don't know how to do. A few of the female employees have very bad manners and they seem to direct their hostile behavior toward African-american males! I saw two of the asian women employees rumble down their pants when I just happen to glance at them, how nasty and unsanitary that is! This restaurant is quite a surprise. It isn't something that one would term as ethnically interesting, or really something that one would consider their favorite restaurant; however, for the price and with proper expectations is quite wonderful. There is an excellent selection of appetizers, fruit, the usual Chinese dishes, and a large selection of seafood dishes. The sushi is very acceptable, and the Hibachi is what you would expect. Every time I go I feel very satisfied, and enjoy the experience. The price, quality, and service are on the mark. My girl and I went to the Hibachi Buffett on a whim when Matt's Bar had a hoard of people waiting. Not being from MN and not knowing what to expect, we were both a little hestitant about going. The fact that there was sushi served with chinese food swayed our decision because it would satisfy both our appetities..... so we gave it a shot. There weren't many people there so we were seated right away. The food was surprisingly good! I had some general tso's chicken which was a B+. The fried rice they had was great and reminded me of the fried rice they used to make at the Chinese restaurant I used to work for in high school. I could have left the egg rolls behind but the fried cheese wontons were AWESOME! My girlfriend said the sushi was good (which coming from her means a lot) so I'd have to say this place is A-Ok. Just wish they had one in Chicago :-) Next time I'm around Minneapolis there's a good chance I'll be going back here. read more

First of i went to this chinese buffet the shrimp hibatchi grill was good but the rest of the food was low grade id never go back my 4 year old had a plate of food that she didnt eat and the guy at the counter was rude told me we wasted to much inside the restraunt they have a limit 4 crab legs per person its a all you can eat buffet just very tacky and id never waste $12.75 CHINESE EXPRESS next door is far better and cheaper all tho its take out I wont be back waste of $35 read more

Wow. Can it really be that there is not a single person in Minneapolis that actually knows what good Chinese food is? Have any of you ever been to Rainbow Chinese? This Hibachi Buffet is probably the worst Chinese buffet I have ever been to, or Chinese restaurant period for that matter. It also seems like these other ratings are a joke and were paid for by the owners or something. How the heck can someone rate this 5 stars? Have you never tried another Chinese place before? The sesame and kung pao chicken both seemed like they were cooked and then placed in some watery sauce with no flavor, the spring roll I had was old tasting and it was fresh WTF, the lo mein was decent, DECENT, the broccoli in the beef and broccoli was old tasting as well but the rice was good. The meat is all dark meat used in the chicken dishes and tastes really bad. All the good places like Rainbow, Village Wok and Suang Cheng use all white meat for their chicken dishes. I'm sad I wasted $9 for lunch today. But at least I learned that Yelp ratings don't mean anything because nobody knows what good food tastes like. I would hate to read a review on a Thai place since you think this is good Chinese. Oh and this food is NOT even better than fast food Chinese like Leeann Chin which is really sad. Please go to Suang Cheng and get some sesame chicken there so you all will know what is actually good vs. bad Chinese. read more

When I go to a buffet, I have certain expectations. I am not expecting a 5 star restaurant, but I am expecting a good selection of hot food, decent service and fair pricing. Hibachi Buffet on Lake street met and exceeded my expections. Selection: Excellent. 4 full stations of hot food, a station for fruit and desserts, a separate station for sushi, and a mongolian style grill. Some of the food selections were unique and rarely found in Chinese buffets, like the Japanese Chicken. Most of the food were fresh and hot. My personal favorite: the honey shrimp. No, the sushi is not authentic and doesnt compare to a real sushi restaurant, but its better than what most chinese buffets offer. Surprisingly nice decor for a chinese buffet. Service was prompt, used plates were quickly removed, never saw a dirty plate in the clean stack, waitresses brought out drinks quickly. Overall, I highly recommend this Buffet for people that like Chinese/American food. I went at lunch and was only $8, we included a few dollars for tips, they deserved it. read more
