A great place to entertain a few friends and or family. It started a few years ago with friends to go out (early) with friends on Christmas Eve to eat Japanese food. Complete with a dog and pony show of meal preparation in front of you. Our family is three generations ranging from 65yrs(me) to my grandkids ages 8+9. Menu is real simple, with choices of chicken, steaks, scallops, shrimp, rice white or brown, vegetables. All cooked in front of you on a hot grill. All just like the way you like it. There is a waitress for your drinks and clear away the dishes. Then there is the chef who will entertain you as well. I suggest extra tip money for the cook. Our entire trip was fun and no one walked away hungry, doggie bags too. Great place for a small gathering of two(you will be seated with others) to small groups of 9-10 at a table. We went here for my son's fiancé celebration of her birthday. What a fun time we had - and the food was amazing over the top! We all got the hibachi entrees and it comes with noodles, vegetables, rice, salad and soup. Plenty of food for sure!! I got the shrimp dinner and then you get to pick the type of rice (fried or steamed) and (white or brown). Finally you pick your seasoning. Hibachi, teriyaki or spicy. We all got spicy except for the individual who got the chicken and he got teriyaki and said his meal was delicious. Other people in our group got the shrimp and lobster, steak and shrimp and some just shrimp like me. It was fun and our chef was Chao and he was a blast. I can't wait to go back! read more

This is probably the second time we visited Hibachi House, the first was many years ago, but I enjoy this spot. We made reservations, which is recommended, the last time we ended up waiting an hour, but this time they actually did have spots pretty quickly for walk-ins. While, yes, it is just your typical hibachi place, it is still pretty solid. The staff was nice. The space is pretty small, just a narrow restaurant with what seems like a bar at the bottom on the stairs. I ordered their Toyoko rose drink, it was very floral and fruity at the same time, but pretty tasty. I did enjoy the salad. My husband felt he did not get enough dressing, but mine was fine. I like that they used field greens instead of the white average lettuce, but I enjoy both kinds of salads. They had miso soup, I would have liked more tofu, but still nice and salty in a good way. We both ordered the chicken but I also got a side of kani with spicy mayo, which was so good, and very worth it. On this visit, we got a nice large portion which lasted two meals, very worth it for me. I enjoyed their fried rice and noodles. We had the ginger sauce and the yummy sauce. I also got a strawberry drink, which was not as good as the first, but I like that they have some fun mixed drinks to try here. Overall a really good time, we laughed and had fun. Such a fun and delicious birthday experience!! I have been coming to Hibachi House since they opened. I have to say that this visit was the best one yet. The service was fast and attentive. The waitresses checked in often and the hibachi chef came out quickly. The restaurant was clean and dimly lit for an evening of entertainment. Not only was the service great, but the food was incredible!! We got the hibachi and teriyakis chicken with fried rice. These entrees come with tons of food-- soup and salad, vegetables, and noodles. Came in for a girls night and had a good time. Starts with an appetizer and 2 sushi rolls. Ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp hibachi dinner and had a cocktail also. It was a very busy night, so the sushi rolls ended up coming after our dinner was made, so I ended up taking them home. The fried rice and noodles were just okay, but enjoyed the rest of the meal. Parking is street parking and there are meters along the street and behind the restaurant. Word of caution...the floor can be slippery when you walk in. Our friend fell in the hallway and ended up spraining her wrist and knee from the fall. Overall, not a bad hibachi experience food wise. Pretty on point with the other hibachi places around, but I will say the salad dressing was really flavorful and so was the miso soup! read more

A beautiful awesome day amazing people of the world. We are suddenly in the mood for some Hibachi. So yea, here we are at the Hibachi House in Rochester, MI. Lets begin shall we. First to arrive is the Miso Soup. Good flavor, nothing is a miss. Taste just like how miso soup should taste like. 7.2/10 The salad, pretty good as well. The Ginger Sesame dressing is tasty. Salad mix was nice. Tastes just like any other hibachi salad, 7.2/10 as well. Fried rice, a bit underwhelming. It's bland, a bit lacking on the Veggie and Egg department. 6.5/10 The noods were the same story as well. Needs improvement. More veg, and more flavor as well please. 6.5/10 The veggies, i enjoyed it. Did we mention I'm partial to vegetables? Texture was great, not mushy. Stands up by itself. 7.4/10 The steak comes and they're a little over done. As you can see on the video, there's no pink to be seen anywhere. Flavor is great though. 7.5/10 The shrimp and scallops were at least the strongest of the whole course. The scallops were done perfectly. So were the shrimp. If you've had over done sea food before, I believe you'd know what I'm talking about. 8/10 The restaurant is pretty nice. The hostesses were nicely accommodating. Our server was very attentive. The hibachi chef did his thing. He's great with the seafood and the vegetables. My daughter needed dinner before an evening dance class. I suggested Shogun since we were close by, only to discover the Livernois location was closed! But now that she had hibachi on the brain she refused all other options. I had to follow through. We went to Hibachi House which is a sister restaurant to Sumo, which we much enjoy. Indeed the decor inside is similar. We were seated and waited patiently for our turn with the hibachi chef. She ordered the kids shrimp with miso soup. I had the adult steak and scallops. The dinner performance was typical of a normal hibachi restaurant. Onion volcano, knife twirling, and flames. This chef tossed egg versus shrimp for people to try and catch with their mouth. It wasn't quite the same. The meal and service was fine, but it was so heavy on oil that it overwhelmed other flavors, and the downtown Rochester price point was crazy high. Solid 3.5 stars. They didn't have a spot for us when we showed up, so we went to the bar downstairs. The bartender poured a strong drink, but I thought it was a little tacky that they served my husband his pop in a plastic cup. When we're dropping over $60 on drinks I expect glass. Hibachi house was just OK! My fiancé really enjoyed their rice and his meal, but compared to Benihana, It doesn't hold a candle.

We just had dinner on 10/25/25 and the food was all good. My main complaint is that the chef apparently knew the other 2 people sitting at our table and did a poor job splitting the food up (veggies, rice & noodles) in equal portions. The persons he knew received close to 50% more portions than we did. At the end of the experience I kind of felt like I paid for a good portion of their dinner. I went here for the first time, celebrating a coworker's birthday. I'm glad I made a reservation, but I wish I knew to ask for any table BUT the one closest to the front door. It was quite chilly each time the door was opened. Bathroom was clean and the water was warm, which was helpful in warming me up. Soup and salad were meh. Not terrible but nothing special. Not much "Wow" factor for chef performance. The least exciting I've ever experienced. My meal was delicious, despite not being given rice until I was almost done. Everyone in my party requested fried rice, while I asked for white rice so I was surprised to have been forgotten about since I figured it was easier. I guess not. I did appreciate how often my water was refilled! And staff were all pleasant. Since I had never been here before I asked if they did anything for birthdays. The employee said she would send a slice of deep fried cheesecake to my coworker. That was kind, and appreciated (even though I was willing to pay), until not even a minute later an employee comes with another slice, with a candle in it, and sang to someone else at our table (not in our party). Ordered lobster roll, lobster delight roll, spicy scallops added Kani crab with a up charge for the fried rice, a hot spicy chicken with an up charge for the fried rice. The lobster roll was okay, not special. The lobster delight roll was yummy. The miso was decent. The house salad was so-so. The fried rice was small, used to getting a bowl of it. The fried rice tastes decent. Not worth the $3 up charge for the little bit you get. The noodles aren't for me at all. The chicken was dry and way over cooked, not good. I wanted to spit out the one piece I tried even. The kani crab is the fake crab stick in butter and fried on the hibachi grill, wasn't what I was hoping for at all. We had an outstanding experience here for dinner with a group of 7. The food and drinks were excellent, and out chef was entertaining. I highly recommend reservations and planning ahead. Parking is on Rochester or behind the restaurant on an adjacent street. It was crowded, so a reservation is critical. Each Teppanyaki "table" seats up to 10 people comfortably, there were 9 of us at our table with plenty of room. The chef was personable and catered his show to the kids, and they loved it. Portions were massive, the noodles and the scallops were memorable. I really enjoyed my drink (house specialty old fashioned), as did the rest of the group. Overall, our experience was very good. We've been wanting to try Hibachi House for a while but there was always a long wait. Today we planned ahead and made reservations! Solid 3.5 stars. We were seated near the back and the waitress took our drink orders straight away. I got a glass of Malbec and my wife Riesling. Both were nice. She ordered her standard steak and chicken and I went for filet and scallops. The chef was mildly entertaining, but I think he realized that all parties were engaged in conversation, so he just dove in and started cooking. Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly, as were my scallops. My wife's chicken was a little dry. The rice, noodles and veggies were all good but we both thought the rice could have used a little more soy sauce. Overall, just okay. We have been to better hibachi restaurants in the metro detroit area. The venue is smaller, which is nice. The disappointment was in the preparation of the food, the taste and experience. The tofu was not chopped and fully cooked. They didn't separate the vegetarian requested cuisine from the meat. Really wanted to visit this restaurant since it's been downtown for years. Figured it would be good. It's very packed still even with COVID. Staff does wear masks, but customers don't. Be prepared to sit right next to folks you don't know. This wasn't an issue for us, but they do pack the tables full. We were seated in the far back near the hallway to the back entrance. It was VERY cold except when the cooking table was on. Lots of traffic back their too as it was near the drink station and kitchen. While they don't tell you you have 90 minutes or less, know you will be asked to leave your seats after an hour an a half no matter how much food or drink you have left. This is not a place to catch up with friends or family. After spending hundreds of dollars on dinner and drinks, you will be asked to leave so the next parade of people can come in. Yes, I get many restaurants are doing timed seating, but should be advertised AND the service needs to start when you sit down NOT 30 minutes after. Food was average. Not great. Not terrible. Drinks sound really good, but they are not. Won't be back to this establishment. read more

In west Rochester hills born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days, chilling out maxin and relaxin all cool and shootin some bball outside by the pool. When a couple of chefs who were up to no good, started some Hibachi in my neighborhood. I got one shrimp and steak and my mom got scared, she said " your eating with aunt and uncle from Bellaire". We whistled for a Lyft and when it came near, The license plate said Saki and it had dice in the mirror, if anything I said this plane was rare, but I thought man forgot it, yo bro to Hibachi House! I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Hibachi House in the past! This was probably my 3rd or 4th visit and it is a good hibachi restaurant. There are two aspects to Hibachi that can make or break a visit, the food and the entertainment. Each visit can vary greatly dependent on the personality and culinary prowess of your chef. Tonight, the food was great, the personality and entertainment was so-so. We enjoyed miso soup, ginger dressed salads, steak and shrimp, fried rice, 2 sushi rolls and an order of spring rolls. At the end, we packed 2 takeout boxes with leftovers. The food was exactly as it should be, no disappointments. The shrimp and steak were flavorful, the sushi was very fresh. Our food was tasty and it was fresh but the curbside pickup left a lot to be desired. My daughter and I waited in the car for 45 mins after calling to let them know we were there. The location is perfect because it is right in downtown Rochester and so you can walk your food belly off. My mom introduced me to this place and we only got to have the hibachi grill and not the sushi. I heard the sushi is creative but my stomach only had room for the grill. The chef was super fun and he did cool tricks like the volcano onion. Also he threw a piece of scrambled egg in the air and of course I caught it in my mouth pshh I'm good lol anyways the food was pretty good. Most people like it a little saltier and add soy sauce but I try to not put too much salt on and so I asked for that preference. They try to prepare the food for your liking so the food was good. DELICIOUS! Absolutely a joy to eat here. I an a huge hibachi fan and once Shogun on Walton and Livernois closed, I was traveling all the way to another Shogun on Hall road. When this place came up on my radar I checked it out with a buddy and God was our experience to die for. Not only do they have a cool downstairs bar while waiting, the food is immaculate. The restaurant is clean. The signs left around the establishment for employees are funny and show character. The service is great and did I mention how delicious the food is???? My girlfriend is what some may call a "picky eater". Shes not a fan of a lot of vegetables, doesnt enjoy situations when you sit amongst strangers, rarely eats out of her comfort zone... but she had the time of her life here. The first time Ive ever seen her immerse herself into a completely different food culture and enjoy it completely. I love this place and have been going for years. They close at 9pm on weekdays and I called at 8:15pm to place a carry out order and I was put on hold for 5 mins and when the woman finally came back to the phone she said the kitchen is closed at 8:20...I explained that I called before that and even so I hear it's so loud in the background the restaurant i still packed as they are open for another 40 mins. I asked to speak to a manager and then got hung up on. I called back and they said there was nothing they could do the chefs just decide to close the kitchen early whenever they want???? Really frustrating and really doesn't make sense. I get when restaurants don't want you placing an order 15-20 mins before close but 40??? Just put on the website you close at 8pm if that's the case? They graciously accommodated us and moved another table in with us for our accommodation. They were short staffed, and obviously stressed out. This did not affect our overall experience. I came here a week ago with my boyfriend to try something different. We were asked if we had reservations, and then were promptly told they were fully booked. I looked around- it was midday- and it was not "fully booked". I've worked in more than enough restaurants to know. We were told to wait- no timeline given, so we bounced. We tried again this weekend. Midday again, this time there was literally no one but three people at a hibachi table that hadn't started yet. The hostess- same girl- asked us how many, and we told her two. She then walks away down the aisle- I stupidly follow her which is what you'd normally do. Come to find out she's just talking with a coworker. I go back to the front and wait, watching her just chatting away with one coworker then the next. In the meantime, the table of three gets started while another available chef is just sitting at a table doing nothing. A new hostess comes up front- doesn't ask us if we need help, and gets on the phone. We're just standing there like a-holes waiting for service of any kind. Honestly, this place needs better management than some 18 year old, Chelsea Clinton lookalike who has serious lack of pride in her own job or just displays downright plain ineptitude for customer service. We were honestly fooling ourselves for thinking we'd give this place a second chance, because clearly we could not be helped to make it past the front door. Hibachi House - Japanese Near Me - Rochester, Michigan

2017-10-27. The Hibachi House is located in downtown Rochester. While there is no free parking, there is some metered parking on the street out front as well as a decent size parking lot in the rear. Hibachi Grill is a teppanyaki restaurant where the food is cooked, made-to-order, at your table. If you have a good chef, they'll interact with you, and keep you entertained while you await your food. All meals are prepared deconstructed. The main difference between this restaurant and others is that here the dishes come in four flavours. This essentially quadrupled the possible combinations of dishes. The entrées all come with noodles, vegetables, and protein. You can order a combo of two proteins as well. Fried Rice is also available for a few bucks more. We arrived pretty much when the place opened for lunch and was seated immediately. The thing with Habachi style service is that if you don't have a big enough party, they'll keep you waiting in attempt to fill the table. Each Habachi table seats 8. We were three and it took about 15 minutes for another party of four to join us. By the time we had all placed our orders and the Chef came out with our preparations, we've been seated for the better part of 30 minutes. Having ample time to peruse the menu, I settled on the Steak and Shrimp combo cooked with Hibachi flavours. Hibachi in Japanese means "Fire Bowl", which doesn't really translate literally, but traditionally, is a cooking vessel that's either round and cylindrical or box shaped. Both vessels are open top, and North American Hibachi is the latter of the two, being a massive grilling surface with a small wall on three sides. Natural gas fuels the vessel instead of traditional coal for obvious reasons. The other thing about Hibachi style cooking is getting everything to be ready at the same time. While the deconstructed meal came in succession, it was good as it was going to get. The first to arrive was the noodles, followed by the rice less than a minute later. A few of minutes after that, came the proteins, and coming up the rear was the vegetables. Miso soup. Soy is very bland, so naturally, miso flavours will depend heavily on the fermenting process. Typically it will be either salty, sweet, earthy, fruity, and savory. I was hoping for savory, and I think that was what they were going for too, but what I received was salty. I saw some of the ingredients to make it savory, I just didn't taste it. 2 stars. The noodles. Not a fan of noodles in general, which only makes me pickier, the noodles were as expected. Not much flavour, and a little to wet for my preference. 2 stars. The rice. In my experience with Hibachi/Teppanyaki, it's always worth the upgrade to fried rice. Usually this will add eggs, green onions at a minimum, and possible some diced peas and/or carrots for colour. Some places even go so far as to add a sprinkling of protein, bits of BBQ Pork (Cha Siu) or diced shrimp. In any case, the fried rice should be at least twice as good as steam rice. I was disappointed here as all I got was an egg, so now I have to rescind my statement about how it's always worth the upgrade. 2 bucks for an egg, me thinks not. 1 star. For my Steak & Shrimp combo, I chose Hibachi flavour because I was curious to know what it was. Was it just going to be flavorless and rely solely on the flavours emanating from the Hibachi Grill itself, baked in over years of use? Was it going to be a smokey charcoal flavour? As it turned out, it was neither. Is was some house blend of soy, garlic, salt, pepper and butter. The steak was about 4oz and was cooked to order. I had asked for medium rare and for the most part, it was. Some pieces were closer to a medium, but that may have been from resting or me not eating fast enough. Flavour wise, I felt the pepper was out of place, and that they should have used a different spice if they wanted to kick it up a notch. 3 stars. The shrimp consisted of 4 pieces of 30-40 ct. It was cooked to perfection in garlic butter with the Hibachi sauce being added right at the end to keep it nice and buttery. 4 stars.
