This is nuts. The BEST food I've had in a very long time. Their Bento Box for lunch is affordable and absolutely delicious!

Good food but higher than expected prices, but that didn't hold me back. I will definitely come back but hopefully on less of a busy night, waited longer than expected for our sushi after ordering and saw people seated after us get their orders. Environment was very casual, lots of kids with families. Dinning room is small so plan to come before when you want to eat to be seated and get your food. read more

First time at Yorokobi after hearing many people say it's very good - and I have to agree. Simple, small place, which is how sushi should be. Full bar; I stuck with Sapporo. We started off with veggie tempura then split 4 rolls. The shrimp tempura and rainbow rolls were pretty standard for a sushi restaurant. However we really liked the Cajun volcano and The Jedi. I don't even live in Michigan anymore, I live in California but yet this is still some of the best sushi I've had & every time im in town I make it a point to go get an American bulldog from Yorokobi. There's a cute patio area outside to sit and enjoy your food, tables inside and a bar area. Our server was very attentive, made some great suggestions, and the rolls are really good! What a cute place .... staff was very friendly and food was good. You will need to call ahead if your planning a large group because it's a very small restaurant. Full bar and carry out is an option. Server was very sweet and attentive. Wide variety on the menu and a special board is hanging on the wall. A nice touch to receive a complimentary Miso soup. A party of three and we started off with the Coconut Shrimp which was 3 coconut panko tiger shrimp served with mixed veggies and sweet chili sauce. The mix veggies were tempura. Edamame steamed soybeans topped with salt which were a little over steamed. Next was the House Ginger Salad which included sesame, cucumber, carrot and house made ginger dressing. We were looking for something we could grab without too much of a wait and saw Yorokobi While walking down Main. We hadn't really been sure what we wanted, but sushi is always good. I ordered the Yum Yum roll and we also had spring rolls and crab ragoons for appetizer. My wife ordered the stir fry with Udon noodles. All of the food was great and service was fantastic! The servers were all very helpful and we were very pleased that we didn't have a long wait to get our food. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and casual, which we both enjoyed. A nice bonus is, it wasn't too loud in the restaurant so we could have great conversation without having to speak extra loud. I'd recommend this restaurant to friends and family. This is a small but quaint restaurant. I live in Romeo and have only gone there a few times but every time I go the food is good and the service is great. This place was featured in a PBS television special that explained all of the special training the owner went through. We got 3 rolls between 2 of us and it was the perfect amount of food. They had a daily special called the Nemo that was delicious with several different types of fish that I can't totally remember now! We also got the Cajun one and that was probably our favorite. Came here with a few friends to grab a bite to eat since there's not much to do in Almont. I normally don't travel out this way but one of my friends moved here and unfortunately didn't get much options on food in their city. So we came down to Richmond to get some food and I looked up a few places to try and they were in the mood for sushi. I really don't eat sushi so my judgment will be biased of course. I won't with the crab Ragu and fried rice since it was something I can eat. My friend see the sushi was really good here and they really enjoyed the restaurant itself. Based on my experience the staff was very friendly and the building was very clean and kinda hipsterish. This is normally not a place I would go to but I would recommend for others to try. To anyone who likes sushi and a small town feel Richmond is definitely the place to go. read more

Been wanting to try this place for awhile, and finally did that today with my son. I'm glad that I didn't read the Yelp reviews for this place prior to coming here, because I might have been scared off by the bad reviews. Don't be! Anyway, we ordered four rolls.. Dragon, spicy tuna, special California, and another that I can't recall the name of. All were delicious! Miso soup was included, and was also good. Had fried pork dumplings for an app, they were ok, I just prefer dumplings streamed. My son loved them, though. Prices were reasonable and on par with other sushi restaurants. Let me start out by saying that I am a huge fan of Sushi. I consider myself very well-versed when it comes to Sushi both as a food and culture. I should be, I was a waiter/sushi helper for 5 years. Although I have since moved on career-wise, I still remember how the business works. Now to the review... My wife was excited to take me here after purchasing a Groupon deal a few weeks ago. Tonight we finally found the time to make the 20 mile drive there with our 13 month old son. I also have to include the fact that my wife is 9 weeks pregnant and there are very few types of food that she can keep down. As you probably guessed, sushi is one of them. Don't worry, strictly the cooked stuff with the masago on the side for me. Fast forward to our arriving and sitting down, we informed our waitress of the Groupon we intended to use. My wife told her that she purchased the dinner for four deal. The waitress had no clue how Groupon worked so she had to ask the Sushi chef. This is when everything started going downhill. I overheard the rudeman (opposite of gentleman) tell her that the deal was only for a party of 4. He said that he cannot and will not honor the Groupon because all we had was two and a baby and the baby does not count. Mind you, my son loves California rolls. But he's not a person, so he does not count right? Needless to say, I was steamed. Lucky for rudeman, I am a more patient guy around my son. When the waitress told us that the Groupon can only be used for a party of 4, my wife tried to find where it stated that to no avail. We asked to see the rules if possible so that we could at least try and get a refund for our purchase. My wife and I intended to just order our food and get a refund through Groupon because Yorokobi would not honor it. No problem right? WRONG! The Sushi chef never showed us the rules. When I approached him to let him know that we will just order and get a refund for our Groupon later, he went on an extremely rude rant. I'm quoting from memory, but here goes: Me: We'll just order and get a refund for the Groupon Chef: Alright. I just can't give you guys the dinner for 4 deal because it's against our rules and you only have 2 people with you. It's meant to bring new customers in here to sample our food and come back again if they end up liking it. I can't just give 2 people a meal for 4 (4 rolls and noodles). We don't make any money from Groupons. My Wife: I just remember her being mad and saying he's rude Me: Look, we had no idea that we couldn't use the Groupon with 2 people. We did in fact invite our family, but they declined so we decided to come ourselves. This was not a huge deal for us. We just wanted a simple explanation and that's it. Me to waitress: Sorry, but we are leaving. We will not eat here nor will we come back. The chef was very rude and you guys just lost what could have been very loyal customers as we are huge sushi lovers. So there you have it... ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING ATTITUDE FROM THE SUSHI CHEF. Had I not been with my pregnant wife and baby son, I would have given that chef a good tongue lashing in front of all his customers. If you guys decide to go to this place even after my review, watch out for the White blonde male chef. No, I'm not trying to be racist. I don't know how many chefs this place has nor do I know who owns it. A rude White blonde male Sushi chef is the best I can do for a description. Consider yourselves warned. You want to know of great sushi places around Metro Detroit? Read my other reviews. By the way, the "not making money off Groupon" excuse is a load of B.S. They lose some profit, but definitely break even at the least. Reference my work experience above if you want to know how I know this. It is a moot point anyway. Don't put up a Groupon deal if you are going to act like a total dickhead about it. Sorry for the profanity guys, but seriously, the only other descriptive words that I can think of are very profane. If anyone from Yorokobi is reading this, especially the RUDE CHEF, take a look at my other reviews. You'll see a couple of Sushi restaurants that treat their customers right and have great food to boot. Too bad I never got to taste yours. Not like it matters. This place is for inexperienced and low-budget highschoolers who don't know what good customer service is. I walked in and while the owner was handling customers he looked over at me and said "sit wherever you want" curtly. Then a guy at the bar shuffled over and handed me a menu and I was like "well I'm sitting outside, do I order here and then take it out?" The owner answered and says "go sit outside; we'll get to you." In the meantime, I'm sitting here for 30 minutes waiting for my sushi. I don't know why it's taking so long for a Philly and a simple salmon roll. Also miso is free with lunch, I only know because I've been here before, but no one offered. I had to asked for it. I've been here before and it always seems like the owner is a rude jerk and the employees are lazy and slow. Regular salmon roll tasted good though, but the Philly was mushy. I have sampled sushi at many different places. This is by far the worst sushi place I have ever been to. My son and I sat down at the sushi bar for a good 5-10 minutes before a young caucasian guy dressed in a worn t-shirt and workout/PJ pants showed up with menus. The sushi guy behind the bar never once looked up to make eye contact. We ordered Gyoza and Udon noodles with veggie tempura for my son and a sashimi sampler platter. The tempura batter was minimal and dry (too much flour). The udon noodles were not even warm. They were rubbery like someone made them in the microwave. My sashimi pieces were the thinnest pieces of fish I have ever had. The tuna rolls were made with stale seaweed (seaweed should be dry and crisp). The worst part was that there appeared to be strange chewy bits (resembling meat tendon) in the tiny pieces of tuna in the rolls that I had to spit out. Not sure if this is because they use lower grade tuna (cheaper cut, different area of fish). When we were almost done, the server brought out the Gyoza. He apologized about forgetting them and said he'd take them off the bill. Thank goodness because nowhere on the menu did it specify that they'd be deep-fried (real sushi establishments pan-fry them). Last but not least, the women's restroom was filthy and disgusting. The toilet and sink looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a month. If a restaurant's restroom is that dirty, I can only imagine what condition the kitchen is in. read more

I have enjoyed sushi since the 80's. It was my very favorite food. Never had a problem until I had the very bad fortune to eat at this restaurant. The sushi was just o.k. Within 3 hours I became violently ill. Spent the evening in ER. I have never ever been this ill. Food poisoning. And yes, I know it was this restaurant. Contacted the owner. He was mildly concerned and was adamant that it was the last day of expiration so it couldn't be his sushi. Fortunately health Insurance covered my hospital stay. I should have called the Health Department. But the experience was so awful it ruined my love of sushi. I will never ever eat it again. Beware. read more

Walking in, the restaurant is small and a little run down looking. Our waitress was super friendly. We ordered two Philly rolls and an Alaskan roll. We were starving and it took a while since another table ordered a bunch of rolls. The miso soup was ok. I've had better but it wasn't bad. My husband got crab Rangoons that smelled amazing! He wouldn't stop making noises and telling me how delicious the were. Grr! The sushi chef was super nice and talked with us while he was making sushi (we sat at the sushi bar). The Philly roll was delicious! I have never eaten sushi so fast. I never eat more than one roll and I wanted more! As we chatted with the sushi chef he gave us a lobster roll on the house....I DO NOT eat lobster and I ate three pieces! Very yummy. I would deff go back! For those who don't like sushi they have a few noodle and fried rice options. Another table got a heaping plate of fried rice and I was so jealous! For soup, crab rangoons, three rolls and a pop, the bill came out to $27 After taxes. The prices are great. Half the price of Kona and just as good! My mother married a lumberjack and moved to Romeo, Michigan. I found myself walking the streets of downtown wishing I was somewhere that had great food that wasn't burgers. Because, really, one cannot live on burgers alone. And then Yorokobi opened! It was a Peach Festival miracle that Romeo had sushi gracing its Main Street. My mother, sister, and I walked in on Peach Festival Saturday. The place had just opened, and we were looking for a place to escape the bizarrely chilly weather. It seemed perfect - my mother and I like sushi, and my sister likes burgers. Happy family! The sushi was quite tasty, probably because I heard the chef from Little Tree opened the restaurant and he clearly knows his way around a maki. The American food was interesting - there was some burger with cheese inside, or something weird and gimmicky, and my sister wasn't wowed. But our waitress was kind and gave us a table overlooking Main, so we could observe our fellow Peach Festival-ers without suffering the wind and rain. Had a similar experience as Leo S. Ordered $85 of takeout, my wife sent me to pick it up with a coupon for free spring rolls. She of course notified the waitress of her intentions on the phone and the waitress said she would include 8 spring rolls with our order. Picked up order, brought it home.....no spring rolls. Drove back to the restaurant and was informed that the coupon was dine-in only, but they would see what they could do since the waitress had promised them on the phone. The cook in the kitchen, I understand to be the owner, blew up at the waitress right in front me saying that this will not happen again we're going to go broke giving away free spring rolls, etc. etc. I offered to pay for the spring rolls to try to make the situation a little less awkward but she insisted I take them free because that's what she told my wife. I ended up getting 2 dinky spring rolls free with my $85 order. The sushi rolls we ordered were good, but I'm going to do my best to never support this business again. read more

I am super stoked Romeo finally got a sushi place. I visited back in June and I have to say it was pretty good. The atmosphere was nice, the staff were friendly, especially the girl at the cash register! She was super rad. I am in love! Super fresh and delicious. We are sushi snobs and my husband and my expectations were completely and delightfully exceeded. I highly recommend their ginger salad. The flavors play together in perfect balance. As for the other reviews, are we talking about the same place? Seriously! I am so excited to add a new favorite to our now 3 sushi bars we patron.
