My husband and I came to Hickory Tavern tonight for the first time in about 6 months because even though we loved the food, the service hadn't been so great. We had a great experience tonight and it is clear they must have had some recent changes for the better! The food came out perfect timing, we had a great server named Ashley, and the food was great! Food was horrible. Service was horrible. I can't stand to run out of drink when I'm eating. Food was very bland. No flavor.

This place is a bad joke. When my party arrived we were advised to sit wherever, so we did, no big deal. The gentleman up front advised us we couldn't sit there, so we moved and waited several minutes before a waitress shows up and states we can't sit there either because there are no waitresses in that section either. Mind you, a gaggle of waitresses were gathered around the soft drink dispenser chatting the entire time. We had been to this place several times before and the service was horrendous, food mediocre, and alcohol watered down each time. This time we had hoped all would be well since it's Friday evening. We went on a Friday night sat at the bar it was 10 minutes before we got asked about a drink and then 20 more minutes before they took order after I ask them 3 times then we waited 25 minutes for our food and that's after I complained to the manger which was a waste of time he just passed the buck and lied about our wait time! We want go back food prices are high for what you get and the service outright sucks! Thank God for football and basketball because if they had to make it on just food and service I feel they would go down the drain! We're done with them! read more

I was at this restaurant today to watch game, have a beer, and some food. There were four of us. Sat in bar that was a mistake. Bartender cleaned our table but for 45 minutes no one ever came to wait on us. Bartender completely ignored us for two other tables with four guys at them. I will never go back here and will let all my friends know of the service or should I say lack of it. Better bars in town that want my business. read more

I've dined at Hickory Tavern for many years. Although their service is slow the food is typically very good but expensive. The managers & servers are courteous & very friendly. For the life of me I can't see why my husbands nachos sit under the heat lamp over 20-25 min. waiting on my BYO salad. But this Fri. at 5 I was disgusted watching (our table faced the bar) the bar maids fix their hair, spray their hair & touch up their make up (blush brush & powder) in front of the bar mirror center of the bar. One particular bartender put her hair up, took it down, fluffed it up, put it up again, took it down, fluffed it up, put a band around it & then sprayed it, took it back down & ran her fingers through it over & over. Her hair is long & black!! I could smell the hairspray across the room!! Then 2 other girls joined in the beauty make over right at the bar!! Really???? I began to wonder if I was in a restaurant. I suppose they just arrived for their shift but the room had quite a few customers. I won't be back for a loooong time if ever. Wonder what sanitation inspectors would say about this!? read more

I really hoped that since my last disappointing review things would have gotten better, but unfortunately they have not and the restaurant has actually gotten worse. This place is a complete fiasco. Management is not existent, and obviously inept. I arrived at 5:15 on a Wednesday afternoon and sat at the end of the bar. Over the next hour I listened to patrons at the center and other end of the bar use language that could be heard over the entire bar area the would make George Carlin blush, all the while managers and employees laughed with them. This is not a roadside biker bar. I listened to staff coming on shift talk about the bad management as they clocked in, and other customers looking for management to complain about their experience. I then looked through the service door where I could see the manager's door which had a home made sign reminding employees drugs were not allowed at work or in the parking lot. You can't make this stuff up, and they are the poster child of badly ran restaurants. Save yourself the frustration and visit one of hickory's other restaurants who actually have a clue. read more

Ok - this is the last time I will go here. It has gone down hill for 2 yrs every since the lady manager has taken over. Service is so slow, food is subpar, and all the good waitresses have moved on. In the last four visits, the weird manager has comped at least 1/2 the meal due to horrible service or inedible food. It truly has gone from first to worst. I called the head office to complain and they could only apologize and say they are in the process of making the necessary changes. Let's hope the manager is terminated, the wait staff terminated and the cooks drug tested. It could not possibly get any worse. read more

Went last night for the shrimp and oyster special. It was fantastic! The service was excellent and the manager came over to speak with us to tell us about the various weekly specials. Update on review of this joint, food is still good staff is still good but management has decided to add a side you can't get rid of or change. You are stuck with a crappy semi- salad. The only way to get a side you want is to pay extra for one. Not good! read more

Waited for 5 minutes to be seated because there was no hostess. Restaurant was not busy. Asked twice to have one of the many TVs changed to a specific game. Ordered an appetizer which we did not get until after we got our food. Before we left, they took off the one game we asked to watch. All in all, one of the worst dining in sports bars experience ever. read more

I went to have drinks tonight with a friend of mine and the bartender Holly was Horrible and rude. She walked away before we could order our food but thats after it took her 12 minutes to acknowledge us before hand. She only had three people at the bar but was to busy to come wait on us. The drinks were bad and not worth the money. Save your money and go get your drinks from somewhere else. I won't go back. read more

Ate here on Thursday before the Fourth. We had to wait 45 min before the waiter informed us they ran out of shrimp and needed to thaw some "fresh". We left after 2 hours and one of our party was still waiting. We spent $78.00 for 2 salads and shrimp. Worse experience ever! read more

I have been here many times. Best food items so far: Shrimp and Grits and the large Nachos. Good draft beer selection and they often have specials on the brews and the food. Great to watch a football game at the bar. read more

Service extremely bad took more over 30 minutes to get my soggy Ruben. My daughter ordered a pizza that never made it to our table. After 45 minutes, sending my order back and asking for the check a manager came out with a pizza, and another Ruben to go. The manager handled the issue very well but after have two different bad experiences with Hickory Tavern me and my family will not be returning. read more

I had quit coming here for months because my food had been consistently terrible. I decided to give it another try, frankly because I had a gift card. Upon walking in I was shocked. None of my favorite servers were there. Brand new staff with no knowledge. Nothing changed. My food took forever, and my waitress was awful. I had no drink refill, dirty silverwear, and cold food. A manager came by and I asked where my two favorite servers were that had been there for years. She told me we got rid of drama, and thieves. I was appalled. Hoping I see one of these girls around town, and will highly recommended they seek action for defamation of character. Your restaurant is gone downhill. Whoever decided to promote these people has absolutely no education, or knows the ethics and laws of a business. Sad to think what the Hickory Tavern was, and what it has become. We've been there a few times and it was great for all the tvs and the food we ordered was okay. Apparently, there are new owners, now. They need to take a course in customer service and also in how to keep the kitchen actually working properly. Their menu is a lot smaller now as are the portions. I ordered the health nut salad and it was the size of a half salad at Panera. No "pick 2;" just a half salad for $13. The kicker was that we waited an hour and a half for the food and none of us ordered anything special. The only person that did, got his steak 20 minutes before the rest of the table was served. Our 7 year old grandson ordered a hotdog and his took an hour and a half, as well. He fell asleep waiting and we had to wake him up to eat. The sign of a dysfunctional, disorganized, undisciplined kitchen is when people who came in long after you did have been served and are leaving and you are still sitting there waiting for food. Our waitress came about every 10-15 minutes to ask if we needed anything, (like alcohol) or advertised the drink and dessert specials, but turned and literally ran away before anybody could open their mouth. The hostess came and explained that they were very busy. DUH. Apologize over and over, but was there any comp offered for this disaster? Not on your bippy! Customer service dictates that if you screw up, you at least try to make up for it. Although even if they had given us a free dessert, we probably wouldn't have taken them up on it for fear we'd be there another hour and a half. The last straw was when the hostess came to our table as we were getting ready to leave and asked us if we had fun, while she was already trying to clear the table for the next victims. We wondered how many stars SHE would give our experience if SHE had been the customer, but alas, we didn't ask, because we needed to get our sleeping grandson home to his bed.
