Yesterday, my retirement buddy and I enjoyed lunch at Hidalgo's Mexican Grill. The atmosphere was inviting, adorned with warm and vibrant décor, and we were greeted by a friendly host and attentive wait staff. I decided to try Lunch Special #6, which featured a burrito stuffed with ground beef, topped with salsa ranchero, and accompanied by rice and refried beans. My buddy opted for #10, the Gioso 3-way, which included grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp sautéed in their homemade spicy sauce, also served with rice, refried beans, and a choice of tortillas. From the very first bite of my burrito, I was pleasantly surprised--it was absolutely delicious! As a burrito enthusiast, I can confidently say it was the best-tasting burrito I've ever had, with a flavor profile unlike any I've experienced before. My buddy shared similar sentiments about the grilled meats on his plate. Curious about the sauce, we asked our server, who informed us it's a signature sauce they developed for all their meats. The rice and refried beans were perfect. The chips and salsa were also excellent. In summary, our visit to Hidalgo's Mexican Grill turned out to be one of the best lunches we've had. Husband and I went here for the first time to try something new from our usual spot- we are so glad we did. We found a new usual spot! He had chimichangas and I had something that had rice, cheese dip and chicken, steak, shrimp. My only complaint is that there was A LOT of chicken, 2 shrimp and not much steak. But it was yummy regardless. They have a daily special and this day was a chicken quesadilla for 5.99 and I think it also came with rice. We ordered one to go for his lunch the next day. (He said it was delicious) Our waiter was nice- never had to wait for anything that we asked for. (More chips, salsa, coke) Oh yeah the salsa is really good too. I had a great dinner at Hidalgo's Mexican Grill in Gainesville and ordered the carne asada that is a ribeye steak on a sizzling platter and it was wonderful. The steak was served with a medley of vegetables like onions, peppers and zucchini and sides including guacamole, rice and the charro beans were off the chain! The service was fast and friendly. The inside of the restaurant was very nice with murals painted on the walls. I'll be back when I'm in Gainesville. read more

Hidalgo's moved into the building vacated by Tino's Mexican. The service an food at Tino's had gone downhill, so Hidalgo's is a pleasant change. The decor is largely the same with some new paint and murals on the walls. But the service and food is much better! We've been there twice and both times the service was quick and attentive, the food excellent and as a result there were already lots more customers. If you soured on Tino's, give Hidalgo's a try. If you're new, I think you will enjoy this new Mexican addition to Gainesville. read more

Hidalgo's is probably Gainesville's best Mexican restaurant. It can be a bit pricier than some, but there's an attention to ingredients and flavors that I find uncommon in the area. The table salsa is chocked full of garlic. A Mexican spicy pasta is an unexpected find bursting with nuance and savory deliciousness. The charro beans are a notch up on the typical salchicha ammendment you find, but maintain the traditional tastes with a tangy chorizo and some bacon. Craving some healthier Latin flare? Try the veggie fajitas. They are lighter on the salt than anywhere else, but those mushrooms really pack a lot of flavor into the dish. Eggs done right? You betcha. When you order huevos rancheros, you can rest assured the eggs come out with runny yolks. I've eaten here a lot more than I should be, but it's because I love Mexican food and there's no reason to go elsewhere! read more

Wow, Hidalgo's was incredible! Staff is wonderful. Each of the Hidalgo enchiladas was awesome - each of the cheese, beef, and shredded chicken fillings went really well with the sauces. The rice was the lightest I've ever had, but somehow the refried beans might have been the best. They had a perfect texture but with whole, softened pinto beans at the same consistency. It was wild! The last time I ate at Hidalgo's, they charged me a 3.5% fee for paying with a credit card. Since then I've eaten at three other Mexican restaurants in the are (which all have comparable food quality and prices), and they did not charge a fee.
