The food is terrific, the owners are incredible and the staff is phenomenal. We've been going here since the early 2000s. The first server I had here welcomed me to Atlanta. It was a rainy day and my dad and I had arrived before I started grad school at Ga Tech. Our server was an Electrical Engineering student at Tech. It was appreciated after the typical chaos of moving to a new city that he happened over here my dad and I talking and he shared he went to Tech. Over the 2 decades since, I've brought friends who live here and from outside the city to enjoy the great serving and kitchen staff. My wife and I have been many times including on the restaurant's anniversary night last fall. We are sorry to hear the landlord has decided to raise the rent and sell the property. Heather has been our server multiple times. She was our server tonight as we celebrated my wife's birthday with her parents, aunt and sister. From calamari to the desert platter and entrees in between, the food was incredible. The fried lobster tails are a must. The mouse has been my wife's favorite for years. The one note is Jacob the General Manager needs to learn to trust his servers. At the beginning of the meal I let Heather know despite being a party of 7 to just bring the check to me and I'll settle up with the other guests via Venmo. And, at as we were finishing dessert, Heather came by letting me know the next party for our table was had arrived and could she bring our check. I said yes. While Heather was getting our check ($490 Food & $600+ after tip) the Manager came by telling us we needed to finish up and have our check brought. When I asked the Manager to not make this an unpleasant experience and that coming by after Heather had just communicated the situation and I had agreed she told me I should share this feedback with the General Manager. She, Jacob (GM), and I stood on the front patio where I explained what I'm sharing now: Trust your Servers. He said they were front facing and so the management likes to meet the guests. Having your Manager tell us we need to get our check and leave is not the way to meet your guests. Chef Jack and his wife (the owners) are hospitable and trust and appreciate their staff. Jacob having his Manager micromanage the servers management of tables is nowhere close the focus on service the owners have had for 26 years. I hope that Jacob and the Manager take this as a learning moment that if you hire talented people your trust talented people to bring their talents to their job. Sure it was busy. But, that's why Chef Jack hired the staff he hired. Jacob the GM needs to increase the communication with his talented team instead of using the excuse of being front facing to ever overstep their bounds on the relationship his servers have built with his guests. Heather introduced herself when we sat down. Jacob did not - nor should he have. Heather did a phenomenal job making us feel welcome, have food and drink we enjoyed, and even recognizing my wife's birthday with her favorite desert. And when the time came she handled coordinating bringing the bill and having us free the table so a new group could enjoy an evening at Agave. Jacob and the Manager need to trust their staff more. Micro-management is never a good look for your staff's morale or your guests' impressions. Please go see them for Jan 31st 2026 when they close. The servers are all wonderful as are the owners. And the food is like nothing else in Atlanta. The management simply needs to trust the talented staff from front to back of house with whom they get to work. If they're ever in doubt if a server is either providing the level of service they expect or turning tables at the rate needed to keep pace with reservations then talk to the server. The server needs to own their tables. Management should truly be of service to their staff - and you can only do that with trust and communication. Customers should never know management had a single question if the sever was doing what's needed. Because it's a bad look to come by twice about being the check. Especially when the 2nd time is in between the 1st ask if they could and the server bring the check. Of note, I already had my credit card out so that I could hand it to Heather as soon as she returned with the check. And in front of the manager, I handed Heather my credit card. This is one of my favorite go to spots in Atlanta, the food, drinks nor the service never disappoints. I encountered Brandon the host, he was soo kind. Our party arrived early and he didn't hesitate to look for seating. We landed a seat in the loft. Yayyyy. He later came by to check on us. Corey was hands down the best waiter he was extremely attentive, the food was served quickly. Shout out to the cook and the bar tender (Sharhara, I think )as well!!! LOVE Agave! Have been here 10+ times, and trying to go several more before they close at the end of January 2026 (I'm praying they get a windfall, I'm going to support them as much as possible. They have a Go Fund Me for their staff linked on their instagram which really shows you how caring they are ) Service is exceptional, always so friendly and makes every dinner feel special. The complimentary chips & salsa are yummy, I get them to go if I have any left at the end of the night. For food and drink, this kitchen and bar are ON POINT, both are so consistent and delicious from appetizer to dessert. There are a lot of "fancy" restaurants I can think of that fail on the dessert front, but Agave excels! I've had the chocolate mousse, Key Lime pie, Strawberry Cheesecake, and chocolate ganache tart, and they are all incredibly delicious. My favorite drink is the Agave Top Shelf Margarita, it's strong and a generous portion like all their drinks, you really can't go wrong. For food, my number one item on the menu has to be the calamari!! Best calamari in Atlanta and I've tried it everywhere, from sushi places to tapas restaurants, Agave is hands-down the best. Super tender, fresh, satisfyingly meaty & with a deliciously seasoned batter, plus 2 sauces that are miles better than the typical marinara. My partner loves the tuna crudo appetizer, and I recently had the guacamole which ended up being a amazing and a huge portion, I ate a lot at dinner and still took home enough for 2 snacks later. For entrees I always go with the fried chicken, tender and once again seasoned perfectly, plus they have some seriously good mashed potatoes. I know I need to try more but it's hard when my favorites are so great! Valet parking is also a nice plus, and they have venmo & cashapp options for tipping which I appreciate. Agave was a lovely surprise. My friends and I popped in on a Friday night, 30 min before they closed. I was nervous that the food wouldn't be good or they would rush us but my experience was the complete opposite. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. I live in the area not to far from here now maybe like 15 minutes so I had to go back here and try something I didn't have before from here. First time I visited I got the Cayenne chicken with the mashed potatoes. My favorite southwest spot in the city. You always get consistent service, delicious food and a good deal the first hour they're open. During the first hour appetizers are buy one get one free, the lobster tails are excluded. You can get this special at the bar or while dining at a table. My most recent visit was a quick stop for the jalapeno margarita for $14.50 and an order of the shrimp spring rolls $11.50 and guacamole $12; I ended up getting the shrimp spring rolls for free. Although this was only small bites I walked out feeling so full because I could not stop eating that perfectly flavored salsa, they should really sale jars of that salas....SO GOOD! Overall this is an oldy but goody, you cannot go wrong. Make sure to ask for their vegetarian menu if you have dietary restrictions. The hidden gem of cabbagetown! I really should make a weekly reservation at this point. The food is so ridiculously good. Chips and salsa come but don't fill up... save room for dinner. This place was such a delight when we visited for dinner and glad to still be standing after many, many years. I last visited Agave when I was in college. It's tucked away in the Cabbagetown/Grant Park area just next to Oakland Cemetery. Make reservations if you can! They only have valet parking but have street parking available. We were seated as soon as we checked in at the hostess stand. I did get a text 15 min prior our reservation that our table was ready! It was dark and cozy and the space was nicely decorated with southwestern elements. Our server greeted us and got us water. She then brought us chips and salsa. When she came back, we ordered guacamole to start. Guac was bland itself but paired perfectly with salty tortilla chips. Shortly after getting our guacamole, we ordered entrees. I opted for the seafood wrap but substituted the beans for julienned veggies, and my husband ordered the pulled pork verde enchiladas. Their servings here were huge! My wrap was filled with veggies and shrimp but didn't really get much swordfish, it also came with a spicy tartar sauce. The onion rings were a nice touch - even though I only got 2 rings and didn't really care for it. The veggies were nicely cooked though! My husband thought his food was okay and wished it was smothered in sauce. He also thought that the egg on top of his enchilada was runny but was too over cooked for his liking. Food: chips and salsa are complimentary and we added a large order of guacamole as a starter. The salsa was super liquidy, so not my fave and the guacamole was decent but overall bland and needed salt and extra lime (I squeezed in the little wedges that came with it). However, our entrees were legit. I had the diablo spicy crawfish pasta and it did not disappoint. It was delicious and does come with mushrooms (FYA if you're not a mushroom lover like me) but it was still good. My friend loved her steak and got grilled jalapeños on the side bc she likes spicy. We have visited dozens of times to enjoy the food, beverages, service, and fellowship. Reservations are recommended. The bar is tiny and fills up quickly. Agave receives weekly shipments of hatch green chiles and red chiles from New Mexico, making for delicious Hatch Green Chile Stew, Traditional Posole, and Queso Fundito. We always order the Fried Lobster Tail, whether as an appetizer or as part of a meal. It is flash-fried with a batter with just enough spice and served with an amazing drawn chile butter. The calamari is another frequently-ordered appetizer. The poblano aioli and pepper jelly are a delicious compliment to the super crispy and well seasoned calamari. For dinner, we trend towards the lamb chops, seared scallops, and pork chops. Do not pass up an opportunity to enjoy the smoked bacon, honey, and cider collards or the tomato and serrano stone-ground grits. The restaurant is on the small side, so be prepared for tight spaces and the tables being close. We started with drinks, I don't recall the Tequila my boyfriend had straight up, but he enjoyed it. I had a coconut lime margarita, and it was really light and refreshing. We had posole soup as an appetizer. A little more salt was needed in it to me. My family loves coming here, and although I've been a few times, I don't get to come often, but I'm about to start. The food is absolutely delicious, and I love the drinks. There's valet parking directly on site, and the restaurant has such a cute vibe. It's perfect for an outing with family or an intimate date night. I want to express my gratitude for the way the staff at the restaurant treated my family, specifically my son. My husband and I are new parents of a two-year-old. We go out to eat with our son very often. However, we do not get a chance to go out with our extended family very often. Unfortunately, when my son realized that we would be eating with them, we're not sure if his social anxiety kicked in or if he thought we were dropping him off to stay with them, but he absolutely lost it. We've never seen him act that way in a restaurant before. He was crying, screaming, and basically inconsolable. It was by far the most embarrassed I've ever been inside a restaurant. Our waitress and several other staff offered words of encouragement and things to assist us with him, but nothing would help. Everyone did it with a smile and understanding. Kim, who I believe is a manager, offered a pop-it toy to calm him down. It didn't work at first, but she told us to hold on to it. Being a frequent restaurant goer, I immediately became worried about the experience of other patrons and told our family that my husband and I preferred to go outside with him and see if we could eat there away from everyone to see if he would calm down. As soon as we stepped outside to eat, he was perfectly fine playing with the toy provided by the manager. I don't know if they'll see this, but I told her I would share this experience. Don't sleep on this hidden gem in Cabbage town. I give credit to my husband for finding this place. I asked him to find a romantic dinner spot for date night. Agave delivered. The ambiance is very romantic. From the fireplace, spaced out blankets, and candle lit tables. The menu has everything- like everything. From pasta dishes to classic Mexican plates. He had the pork enchiladas- he loved them. The eggs on top was a nice touch. I had the super fresh shrimp ceviche. Check out the photo! Also the barb area is a tequila bar- how fun!! We went to Agave on my birthday eve, and the reason why I decided to go was the excellent phone service when I called beforehand. The food was amazing. The margarita was a little bitter for me. Our server seemed to be in a hurry though, maybe because it was super bowl Sunday. He forgot a couple of things and asked if we wanted to go boxed before we were done eating.
