This was lovely spot, our first stop of 5, for our group of 8. We called ahead and, this is key for larger groups. The owner greeted us and brought us into the back for a structured tasting, they were generous and happy to have us. The wine is fantastic, definitely one of the best in the province. Talk about arrogance. We are four couples, coming up here for the wine festival every year. Every year. This year to be smart, we rented a limo bus. Usually it's two couple in two cars. We walked in as two groups of four. And proceeded to try to sample. We were the accosted by the manager. "No groups over five without an appointment!" Ok, we are two groups of four. "You are trying to game the system. We have our wine club today and it's wine weekend." Why would you do that this weekend? PS - it's 1030am and we are 8 of only 10 people there. You could've accommodated us. We will never come back, or spend our money here. There are several wineries with better wine, and much better manners. Also, the manager went and interrogated our bus driver. Said "we are the best winery in the country! You can't do this". Our driver said "not based on this service." read more

Beautiful location, excellent wines, wonderful service. Thank you, first, to Mike for making our visit here very enjoyable. This winery is a contemporary ranch with deep and rich colors and the pleasing aroma of wooden beams that compliment the space. My husband and I chose to split a tasting, and after describing our tastes in wine, Mike suggested we go with the flight of 4, mostly Pinot Noirs. Excellent wines, all noticeably different but pleasing. We felt very welcome and unhurried, even though it was near closing time. Very enjoyable. read more

Hidden Bench has some of the better wines in the region with prices to match. (They price their wines 5-20$ higher than the area average, but also have a solid rep.)I showed up on a day when they were hosting a luncheon in the back room, which I am sure was more lucrative than anything else that day. I spent ten minutes looking around the small sales room. No one ever came into this area to wait on me, so I left. Part of visiting this region and paying a premium for wines that can sometimes not live up to their price point is the tasting room experience. One day I will return to try again, but this day was a fail. read more

My wife and I go to the Niagara region a couple times a year from Toronto to stock up on great wines. We have a list of vineyards we always visit and are consistently great! Hidden Bench is not one of them. We had never been, and decided to give it a try. After going to 7-8 vineyards this day, and not purchasing bottles at each and every stop, Hidden Bench decided to charge us the $10 tasting fee despite us buying a bottle of their wine. This would be understandable if not for the following reasons: 1) every other vineyard we visited waived the tasting fee... even if we didn't buy a bottle, which we almost always did anyways. 2) their wine was more expensive than all the other vineyards we went to. 3) their wines weren't anything to write home about. Hey Hidden Bench, do yourself a favor and get your heads out of your ass and visit some other vineyards for some competitive research. Skip this one folks. read more

We stopped at this winery with a group of four couples, looking to casually try some wines and enjoyed a great sit down tasting with one of the sommeliers at the winery. He took his time to explain all of their wines, and really made us feel welcomed. That quickly changed after the owner rudely barged into the room and told us we had to leave right away as there was another group coming in. Meanwhile, there were plenty of tables available for them. We abruptly left the tasting however did manage to spend over $500 on our way out on their wines to take home ... Which in hindsight should have never happened given the rude interruption. The cherry on top was when, upon exiting, Harold told our group we should have never showed up to the winery with so many people even though they could accommodate. All in all, the sommelier was what salvaged our experience however we will not be going back and will take our money elsewhere as there are many options in the region as we all know that were more than happy to accommodate our group. read more

A must stop. Their wines were organic, clean, fresh. We did a tasting and couldn't pick a favorite. What make our visit stand out was Meg! She was extremely knowledgeable, not to mention she gave us recommendations that literally made our entire trip. She was amazing! One of our favorite wineries in the area. read more

This place is beautiful. Despite the reviews here, I found the staff to be friendly. Wasn't impressed with the Pinots but I did really like the 2015 Rieslings. Really smooth, tasty. Not too sweet and not too dry. The staff was very knowledgeable and professional. It's easy to find and parking was ample. Tastings are free if you buy 3 or more bottles of wine. Also if you are traveling from the USA, make sure you declare how many bottles and don't say "cases" apparently homeland security will think you're selling wine if you say cases. If you are flying with your wine in the USA, you are allowed up to 6-7 bottles of wine in your suitcase. I also didn't have to pay a duty on my wine at the border crossing back into the USA which was nice. They currently do not ship to the USA but they are working out a deal with a distributor. read more

We had a lovely time visiting Hidden Bench Vineyards. This tasting room is located in a fantastic heritage-quality property that has been renovated with a very appropriate addition. As we arrived, we quite enjoyed the fire that they had going on a cool, fall day. The staff were quite friendly and well-informed. They guided us through a tasting of their wines. One tip...Visa Infinite credit card holders get a free tasting. Not a place to offer extras though, FYI...it's the strict number of tastes and that's it. The wines were significantly above average in quality, and we took home a lovely chardonnay with just the right amount of oak to balance the minerality from the soil. They made some good recommendations of other wineries to visit. Overall, a very nice experience and a definite place for a repeat stop. read more

Came here with a group of girlfriends. We were lucky enough to score a tour and tasting in their private tasting room, hosted by the friendly owner, Harald, who is very personable and clearly passionate about his winery. We had an absolutely fantastic time. This was our third stop in Niagara on the Lake and definitely our favorite. It's a boutique winery so small production (the tour was very fast and simple), but the wines are delicious. We had their 2011 Estate Chardonnay, 2011 Estate Riesling as well as their 2010 Estate Pinot Noir. My favorite was the Riesling but my friends loved all of the wines. We also had some delicious cheese to pair with the wines. Definitely worth visiting. read more

Horrible service. We asked for the "4 wine glass testing for $10". The sever poured us 4 glasses, we took 3 and walked inside the winery and came back to try the 4th glass and it was not there. She said she poured 4 glasses ( which she did ). We did not want to cause commotion so we paid for the "4 glasses of wine". I spoke to the server afterwards and explained what had happened, she explained that, that was the way they run the winery. I was extremely disappointed and surprised how she handled the situation and technically she could have provided the same glass of wine. She hardly listened to anything I said and gave attitude. Nothing further, nor did she apologize. I'd give this winery 0 stars if I had the option to. read more

All the wines this winery makes are spectacular. Across the board. That's, in my mind, unusual. My picks would be the 2011 La Brunante, which is totally awesome and the 2010 Felseck Vineyard Chardonnay, 2011 Tete De Cuvee Chardonnay -- the best Chardonnays in the region, in my opinion. The winery and the surrounding areas are gorgeous. Hidden Bench also serves food -- and their cheese plates are yummy and very generous. The first time we came in we talked to the winery owner and he was very friendly and attentive. We visited the winery 2 times since and were always treated very well. It's true that when the winery was busy the staff weren't as attentive as when we came the first time and they had few customers, but I don't think this subtracts from the quality of the winery. I highly recommend this one. read more

Ended up here this weekend, I was very impressed with it. We showed up to meet my girlfriends parents who had found themselves an outdoor space in the shadow of a beautiful outdoor fireplace looking straight out at the vineyards. Everyone grabbed what appeared to be a Rose or blush, neither of which am I generally a fan of so I asked the couter staff what he would recomend, so I went for a Chardonnay based on his recomendation, it was lovely and crisp and perfect for what at the time felt like early morning. out came the Charcuterie platter, on it contained a Brie called Sweet Cream, a Heavier cheese that I know has a classic name, it was similar to a Cheddar but without a bight at all, it was called Country Gold or something to that effect (Paired beautifully with my Chardonnay) a Hot pepperoni of some sort, a Prosciutto, a Tarine, pickles, pickled onions, mustard, and this Dried Cured Veal Tongue, I was nothing short of impressed by this platter although Tarines are not my thing at all. This place gets all 5 stars and earned every single one of them. I strongly look forward to my return. read more

2.5 stars. Visited here during the Graze the Bench festival last weekend. Winery itself is nice enough, with old barn wood and country decor. However, and this is unfortunate- tourist requests to sample "a popular red" were met with a hostile and abrupt response from the bar staff. Service was shocking. This is a tourist event, you old hag. I know you're stressed, dealing with questions and the like, but come on, you chose this industry to work in. The worst part? The wine we were allowed to try was fantastic, however, I walked away from a purchase, simply based on how rude this woman was. All the other wineries in the area were great, fantastic, even, by comparison. Those, I'd return to, this one though, I won't be back. read more

On my adventures today a visit to Hidden Bench Vineyard and Winery, a biodynamic and organic winery, a hidden paradise on the Beamsville Bench, only certified organic estate fruit with sustainable, non-interventionist winemaking techniques are used. A peaceful enjoyable experience is guaranteed by the educated, warm and friendly staff. The Chardonnays are spectacular and the Pinos divine. To assist with insect management, weed control and fertilization Harald Thiel vigneron/proprietor and host, houses and manoeuvres a clutch of organic heirloom chickens and yesterday they self sacrificed themselves to the art of cooking! I am the very enthusiastic owner of 48lbs of them, equating to 9 little ladies, some who will grace my table while others will travel to dear friends along with a perfectly paired recipe and bottle of Hidden Bench Estate wine.
