We ordered a rose hibiscus tea, bbq pork belly entree, and a matcha green tea waffle for dessert. The presentation of all the items was great as you will see in the photos. The tea was aromatic. It reminded me of a unsweetened agua de jamaica. The rose was a great addition to the tea. You can taste the different flavors. The bbq pork entree was delicious. It came with a fried egg on top of the pork, steamed rice, and a side salad. The pork was perfectly cooked. The sauce was flavorful. I liked that the egg was not fully cooked so I can spread the yolk over the pork. The rice was good. I loved the dressing on the salad. The dressing was made in house with sesame seeds. The matcha green tea waffle was great. It was my first time having a matcha infused waffle. The waffle came with syrup but it didn't need it because it was drizzled with chocolate, topped with fruit, and a scoop of matcha ice cream. I will be back. This cafe is soo cute and delicious! It's located inside Pearl Plaza among a bunch of other restaurants/businesses. We ordered the boba bear set, berry's party, dry noodles, and basil chicken rice. Everything was really good! I would definitely order the dry noodles and berry waffles again. The boba bear set was rlly good too, and the cookies were scrumptious. I came in around 2pm on a Saturday and parking wasn't too bad. The cafe was fairly busy and I had to wait about ten minutes for a seat to open up inside. In order to try their boba bear drinks you have to be seated inside. The patio only has to go orders. I ordered the boba bear set which comes with their signature boba with a cute frozen bear ice cube made of tea and a couple of cookies. The drink was good but be aware the serving is small. The others who sat with us cancelled their orders and received a refund. Drinks were a little slow to arrive, but it wasn't terrible. Baristas were apologetic and helpful with refunds, which is why they get the extra star. I'd say that management needs to do better. I wanted to like this place and its cute vibe, but there's a serious lack of urgency. Nothing on the menu should take more than 5-10 minutes to prepare, except for maybe waffles. In the area visiting a friend and wanted to try out this place, seeing that they have a cute bear milk tea set! Didn't do much research except looked at all the yummy photos from my fellow yelpers. What a super cute cafe tucked in a middle of nowhere tiny plaza. The parking was a bit of a tricky situation but once you're inside the plaza, the cafe was easy to spot. I'm a sucker for rose anything so wanted to try the rose oat milk latte and even requested rose petals inside (because why not?). I knew this was place would be better than the average cafes - and definitely better than the basic Starbucks drinks. I went to Hideout Cafe with my wife. We were seated at a small table in the back for 2, which kinda sucks. They were understaffed and some tables didn't get cleaned up like 20 minutes after. The lack of staff affected their service, we had to wave them down a few times to order and get the check. The food was decent, but not amazing. I liked the Avocado Toast, but it isn't amazing, it was a normal dish. The Dry Noodle was fine, but it could use a bit more flavor. The best part was the tapioca milk tea with a cute bear in it that dissolves as you drink. It was served with a little cookie. This cute cafe is tucked away into this really cool area of Rowland heights that I didn't know was there! There was parking on the side of the building that is on the other side of the cafe. My sister got something a little closer to the cafe, which is great. My sister wanted to come here because she had seen it on Instagram and wanted to try the boba bear milk tea drinks! We were excited to meet up and enjoy boba drinks together. When you get there it can be packed so be prepared to wait if you want to eat inside. There is a waitlist I believe you can do on Yelp or you can let them know you're going to do the patio seating and eat your food out there. If you opt for the patio seating be aware that your food is considered take out, so the experience may be different than eating inside. When we arrived it looked like a long wait to eat inside so we opted for the patio seating. We came around 3:30/ 4PM. Our server was great to us. I feel bad though, while we were eating and chatting later we noticed he was getting what I call "retrained", but my sister would call it light reprimand by what I would assume were the owners out at the patio seating in front of the cafe. I felt this was awkward and told my sister don't look or stare, so that he wouldn't be embarrassed. It was what I assume closer to closing time, or maybe the end of his shift, but could probably have been done in a more private setting. They weren't mean, it just was what I felt embarrassing to do in front of guests you had just served food and drinks to out on the patio. Granted my sister and I were the only ones still out there, from what I remember. The place is small inside so there is probably not somewhere they can talk to him where his coworkers can't hear, which can be even more embarrassing I guess. Ok the food! The food is great! The take out food comes in these small but good sized little brown take out boxes, much better than plastic or styrofoam! The drinks we ordered were the lavender lemonade because they were out of the frozen boba bears, as well as boba. Which was the whole reason we went. Lol. The lavender lemonade was just ok for me though. Usually floral drinks, except for jasmine, taste like perfume flavored drinks to me. I still drank it, and that's just my personal opinion, other people love floral drinks like rose and lavender. I chose that drink because I love milk tea with boba and they were out of the boba. More like a 3.5, but I'm rounding up! My original review still stands where it's no longer really a "Hide Out" cafe anymore. It gets busy at all times and prior to the pandemic, you'd be hard pressed to find a table free. However, we came on a Wednesday around 15 minutes after they opened and we were able to get a table with an outlet to do some work. There was only one gentleman working the front at the time before his coworker came in so he was handling the to-go orders and fulfilling all the orders for the diners. It took some time, but he did a great job. Made sure that all our drinks were correct, gave us all the necessary utensils, and cleared the plates for us afterwards. I had a pair of headphones on me so I can do my usual and listen to some IRL spooky stories compilation as I did work, but it DOES get pretty loud here, especially with how popular this place is. We got the: 1) Hokkaido Milk Tea: -Sweet and tasty as it always has been. This is my go to here. A tried and true classic and one of the best Hokkaido Milk Tea that I've had. -Tastes like one of those rabbit milk candies. 2) Rose Milk Tea: -Light floral rose taste, none of the fake lotion-y flavoring you get at some other places. 3) Passionfruit Lemonade: -You taste the passionfruit more than the lemonade, but it's a very light, refreshing drink overall. -Not overly tart or harsh like other lemonades. Nor is it saturated with sugar. -Comes with a lemon slice, very yummy. 4) Hashtag Waffle Fries: -Definitely smaller portion than in the past and it didn't have that much even distribution of ground beef and sauce. -The skillet makes it very "photogenic" but between a group of 3, we devoured this quite quickly. 5) Pork Belly Rice Dish: -Also one of those nicely plated , pretty pricey dishes with an okay amount of food on it. -It comes with a salad with arugula, spinach, walnuts, cherry tomatoes and vinaigrette , a scoop of rice, and some pork belly with a fried egg on top. -The pork belly was dripping oil, not gonna lie, but pretty yummy tasting. Not too fatty and pretty tender. Man I miss the days when Hide Out used to be Tea Lane in the HK plaza. There are definitely more menu options, but the prices have raised anywhere from $2-4. Most drinks are $5-6+ and snacks and food are $7+ generally, so it can get pretty pricey, just FYI. read more
