Stumbled upon Hideout Coffee while on a walk with my husband this afternoon. I love the concept of a window coffee shop, and I was really excited to come across it by chance. Unfortunately, this excitement was quickly diminished. The barista working was not friendly at all. She did not welcome or greet us or ask if we had any questions on the menu, she quite literally just looked at us. We decided to get an iced lavender matcha with oat milk and this was another huge disappointment. There was no one in line before us, and it took quite awhile for our one drink order. The drink was given to us as a pour over not mixed into the milk, which is fine, but the matcha itself was clearly not prepared correctly. The latte was given to us with so many clumps of matcha and was gritty and grainy and the matcha taste was non-existent. The lavender syrup was the only redeeming quality of the drink. It was flavorful and good quality, but without the syrup, it might as well have just been a glass of oat milk, and it was close to $8. The barista didn't look at us while handing the drink to us and she didn't say anything. She just walked away. The customer service was truly terrible and the drink was not good at all. What a huge bummer. Maybe the coffee is better, but I definitely do not recommend coming here for matcha, and the customer service was so bad. read more

Been turned away from here twice. First time the girl in the front said they had to pause service to grind more coffee. Fine no biggie, I figured I'd come back another time. The second time she wouldn't take my order because she said she had to take out the trash... ummmm what? First time was semi-understandable, but the second time was pretty dumb. It was literally just me in line, I think the trash could have waited for a customer... anyway probably not gonna go for a third time to be let down again. read more

Went back for my same order except no cream top and unfortunately it wasn't very good. When I think of great matchas, I think of consistency and unfortunately their matcha wasn't consistently good. Although I do believe they have some great drinks, I just think I'd opt for other matcha options in the area now! read more

I arrived at 3pm for a matcha since I've been wanting to check it out and it looked cute! There were only 2 people ahead of me so I figured it wouldn't be too long of a wait. Cut to almost 3:30, seeing my drink sitting on the back counter, and all of the people that arrived after me had already left with their drinks, when they finally let me know my drink would be ready soon. I'm not an impatient person and as a former barista, I understand getting busy, so trying to be understanding. The matcha was good and the atmosphere is really cool, but the experience overall as a first time customer was not it. read more

The matcha itself was just okay, but I could barely taste any blueberry--it was almost nonexistent. For the price, I expected way better quality and flavor. I have tried their iced matcha latte with whole milk twice now, and it is so good! Their service was a bit slow, but it kind of seemed like there was only one person working... I came out 3pm and waited 15 minutes? So I would say if you're in a rush, don't expect to get your drink so quickly. Highly recommend!!! read more

Just went to hideout on my way to work. I ordered a vanilla latte & a blueberry matcha because I couldn't decide. To start, the girl who was helping me was extremely friendly & helpful. Then for the drinks the coffee was absolutely amazing, you could actually taste the coffee not just milk! The matcha was also delicious. The drinks weren't too sweet which I loved. I happened upon this shop while in the area and decided to give it a try. The exterior is cute and the staff were friendly and did a good job staying calm under pressure. despite the long line they had going and the small workspace they have. Unfortunately, my experience with the coffee wasn't as quite as nice - when I asked the person on register what kind of beans they had for drip, they didn't know the answer (not a good sign), and when I got a cappuccino with oat instead the shot underneath tasted very overextracted, with a burnt taste and little body to speak of. Although there was a nice head of foam floating at the top of the drink, the milk underneath lacked proper frothing, leading to a texture that felt more like hot milk than what you would expect from a steamed drink. Maybe I just need to give another visit when they're not so busy, but after this one I don't feel as confident in their quality as I would want to be. read more

I ordered a matcha (their medium size, by the way, which is a 12oz) with their seasonal strawberry cold foam. It was pretty good, but the price was egregious, especially for the size. I paid $8 for the whole thing and I liked it, but nothing to call home about. The place is a small hole-in-the-wall with very much trendy & overpriced LA coffee shop vibes. The guy who took my order was pretty nice as well. One of my gripes was, however, the fact that because it is a hole-in-the-wall café, you have to stand and wait for your drink and it gets a bit crowded because the ordering booth is the same as the pickup booth. I arrived to pick up my online order, and the employee said, "I'll be there in a moment." I responded, letting her know I was just there for a pickup, but she may not have heard me over the music playing. I waited another five minutes without being acknowledged as she prepared a drink for someone else. When she finally addressed me, I repeated that I was picking up my order. She then mentioned that the machine doesn't "ding," so she wasn't aware of my order and would start on it. My pickup time was listed as 2:20 PM, but I didn't receive my drinks until 2:36 PM. I'm not hoping for anyone to lose their job, but the customer service should be better. My drinks were good though! Probably my new fav coffee shop in the area. read more

As a Monrovia local, I was so excited to see a new coffee spot open up. I love this concept. I hear other people complaining about lack of seating, but there's a great park right across the street and perfect for grabbing a quick coffee on the go. Some people are also complaining about prices, but honestly, this is comparable with any coffee shop... cheaper than Starbucks and significantly better quality. The wait times were long to start, but that's to be expected with a new place. I've come by three times now and staff seems to be more efficient and getting their groove down. I've been waiting to try Matcha as they were out for a couple weeks and I kept being told that the owner was very picky about the Matcha he uses. I'm not gonna lie, I was kind of rolling my eyes at that explanation but today I got a lavender Matcha and I definitely think it was worth the wait! My new favorite spot for a Friday morning treat! While this is an amazing new coffee place with good drinks. The customer service and staff were very very very rude and horrible. Even a simple question about a drink was met with attitude. I would highly suggest retraining staff to show respect and great customer service so that many people feel welcomed and can appreciate those who work here and service this new coffee spot. I've been on a Matcha kick lately, going around trying Matcha lattes at different locations. I did a quick Yelp search to find this little gem. And when I say little I mean little. The name is prefect for this spot. Just an unassuming walk up window in a wall with other business that you might miss if it wasn't for the line. Not sure about other mornings, but this Saturday there was a long line when I arrived but it moves pretty quickly with friendly staff to help with your order. I ordered a Matcha Latte with oat milk. I love Hideout Coffee! I was met by a barista named Kaylie and she helped me to decide what to get because there are many different choices. She was very patient with me as well as knowledgeable on the menu and answered all my questions! I ended up going with an iced matcha latte with sea salt cream top and it was delicious! The matcha was high quality as well as the ingredients used for the cream top. It was a little busy and the space inside for the baristas is very small so it took a little bit for them to make my drink (understandably so) but it was worth the wait because the drink was so yummy! I stopped by after work since I have been on an adventure to try different coffee shops in the area. This is stop #4 of coffee shop visits... Unfortunately I will not come back. I ordered a matcha, it lacked flavor and just was overwhelmed by the milk. I used whole milk. It cost almost 8 dollars. Had I requested a milk substitute, my drink would have been near 10 dollars...for a 12 ounce. I went back to ask for a different drink recommendation, and opted for a lavender latte What took me by surprise was that I paid almost 8 dollars for the matcha, well when they replaced my drink they gave me a small size drink (5.50 cent drink) They didn't offer to give me a refund Almost 3 dollars that I over paid The barista should have made me a large drink since that was equivalent in price. However they gave a small. Was not impressed Try Merengue down the street or poppy's on foothill blvd. They both excel in customer service and quality coffee. ** I would like to add, the employees were sweet, however due to pricing and taste, I choose not to come back. I don't think it's the employees fault for not giving me a drink equivalent to the price I originally paid. They may not have felt empowered to make that decision. I got the lavender matcha and lavender latte. The service was amazing the cashier was very nice and the line went by very quickly. The drinks were so bitter and strong I couldn't drink more than a sip of mine and had to throw it out. I hope they improve their menu because otherwise I don't plan on coming back. read more

Horrible service, decided to stop by on my way to work to pick up a matcha, I found it a bit odd that the girl taking my order didn't take my name but let it be, fast forward 15 minutes everyone who was behind me had gotten their drinks, then another 15 minutes passed and still no drink in sight. The girl explained that they had to whisk their matcha but 2 other people behind me had already gotten theirs, god awful service and mediocre drinks, would not be going back. read more

Cool little spot hidden behind another great etablishment (acai bar). hence the name hideout. I had the pistachio latte, my wife had the lavender latte. Both are a 10/10, which is why we have been there 3 times in 1 week. Friendly staff, great coffee, great location. We habve found our permanent coffee shop!! read more

I had a great experience here! The blueberry and pistachio lattes are amazing, you can tell the coffee is high quality. The service was great, too. Price is comparable to other coffee shops in the area. For people who don't know: this coffee shop is in downtown Monrovia, walking distance from a lot of small businesses, including thrift stores, bookshops, clothing stores, etc. The concept of this coffee shop works (not having indoor seating) because of the location - you can grab a coffee and walk across the street (literally) and sit or take a walk at the park, or drink your coffee as you walk through downtown and do some shopping.
