I have been a customer with High Gear for five years. Spent thousands of dollars for their services for multiple vehicles. Last service from them a few months back for purchase of four tires. Called today to get a tired repaired from a puncture in tread that is part of tire service agreement. Could have dropped car off for repair immediately for repair at their convenience but was told couldn't look at it for two days. Sorry that kind of response was not acceptable to me. Stopped by shop and told them so and received call back from them like my request was unacceptable. WTF? Be cautious with these guys. They try to upsell you on services also which disappointed me the last year or two. Turns out they are the typical auto repair shop out for the buck. read more

They underestimated the cost of adding running boards to my Lexus. After finding out how much time it took to install as well as making a special tool to get the job done, they were still going to honor the original estimate. The original price was way too low and completely unfair to them, so I insisted on paying more and the price was still lower than going to Lexus for the work. Still gave them 5 stars after forgetting to get back to me on an oil change price. read more

The A/C compressor failed on my 3-year old Honda Civic. Apparently, this is a relatively common problem, but the car's (just) out of warranty, and the dealer wanted full retail to fix it. I did some research, and gave High Gear Automotive a call. He was fully aware of the problem, and had in fact repaired three other Civics with the same issue. I brought my car in to them, and the work was completed in a single day, for $900 less than the local Honda dealer quoted me. HIGH GEAR AUTO GARAGE I had a problem with my "Check Engine Light' on my 2003 Toyota Matrix XR. I had computer checked at 2 auto shops. 2 different results. I took it to a Garage, recommended by our friend. They told me it was a Serpentine Belt that had to be replaced. So, $300+++ later I went home. Next day I had to call AAA to tow it back to garage! Another $ Xxx.xx bill. (think ice pick) 2 weeks later Check engine LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. (ice pick) Being a little leery (because I knew the story about the Italian Roofer & his favorite tool the ICE PICK) I decided to get a recommendation from some knowledgeable honest Tradesman. Because of a very good and positive experience I had with A1GLASS & COLLISION I naturally went back there. Nick right away got a readout for me. I asked if he could do the job. He said no. I then pushed him for a reference to some one he knew to be a Reputable, good, honest mechanic. He told me to go to HIGH GEAR. (Always mindful that what he tells me, also Reflects on his own reputation.) I scooted over to High Gear. Because I had been sent by A1, they talked to me real quick. I met Thad, a heads up, no BS, seemingly knowledgeable mechanic. He said he'd, give a look, and suggested I stand by WITH HIM outside while he got the reading himself. (All up front & visible. He pointed out different things that even a 'JOE McGEE' like me could see. Disconnected hose, filthy (not cleaned, as other garage said it was) filter, Loose O Ring, hanging loose horn (it didn't work after visit to other auto garage) He cleaned, and put all of it back together, shook hands and said thanks for stopping by. I felt real positive about that encounter. I looked around the very organized tidy garage, from the outside, and thought THESE GUYS ARE HAPPY, AND PRODUCTIVE. That is really nice to see. Thad the owner and super pleasant mechanic diagnosed my issue by going out and filling the tank and driving it for a couple of days on and off to determine that it was not a leak but vacuum hoses that had been chewed by rodents. Thus sucking gas fumes into the cabin. I had it to another shop just weeks earlier, when my dash light came on, and they misdiagnosed it and said that the light was no big deal. When he inspected the 2001 van he found other far more serious issues that he determined might be too expensive to fix for the years and miles on the van. (unless I determined to spend it) Where do you find a mechanic that finds things to fix and honestly tells you not to do it? Honestly, tells you if he were you he would not spend the money? I own my own business and know that this type of honest customer-centric attitude costs a business money. It is what I do for my customers but find few of my competitors do. In fact, they look for things to run up the bill. If you are looking for an honest "son" in the business look no further than Thad. (and his lovely wife and very pleasant front desk/reception team) Yes, it is a little off the main road but worth the couple of mins. it takes to get there. I sound like a family member or salesman for them but a good mechanic is worth their weight in gold and when you find one who is customer first oriented and has a great front office team you need to shout it out to all your friends. Oh yes, he did fix the hoses and the dash light is off:-) no smell. He told me to drive it with care and start looking for another ride. This business is honest, run efficiently, courteous, and best of all, the mechanics REALLY know what they are doing. They are exceptionally well trained. That combination of attributes in an auto shop is...rare. I have dealt with High Gear Automotive twice. Both times they exceeded my expectations. How often does that happen? They are competitively priced, but provide superior service. Recognize that they may use better quality (OEM) parts than other shops, which cost more. I recommend this shop highly.
