High hill ranch was a nice place to hang out for dry fall weather. There are lots of artisan stalls with local artists in the premises. My kiddo wanted to try fishing in the pond. So, we rented the fishing rod for $12 but we didn't catch anything (not sure if there're any fish in the pond) - it was fun though. - Apple fritter walnut ($7): the fritter was good & cinnamony. It has lots of apple pieces and was covered with walnuts. It wasn't too sweet which was my liking. - Donut crumb ($2): the donut was good and soft. The crumb gave crunchy texture on the surface of the donut. - Dutch apple pie slice ($6): was ok. There were packed with apple pieces, very cinnamony and not too sweet. However, the crumb on top of the pie (that makes it 'Dutch') was disappointing - it was soggy and clumpy. - Sour cream berry pie ($6): delicious! I've had too many good memories here at this point to give it less than a five star. High Hill is big, has a lot to offer, and can be very busy on weekends and holidays. But! If you go on a random Wednesday you took off specifically for your chef friend on her day off so you could come get her necklace fixed by Wave Gods? We nearly had the place to ourselves compared to usual! Neither of us actually remembered which orchard Wave Gods posts up shop at, but we weren't worried. We knew we would know it by sight, and we did! Wave Gods is a beautifully handcrafted jeweler. They're local, fair trade, high quality, fairly priced, and super friendly people. I found a lovely amethyst ring for just $30. And I can trust that it's going to last a very long time if I don't lose it. Wave Gods fixed Jenna's necklace in no time at all, did a cleanse on it to expel all the nasty aura ex bf essences, and she traded one of the beads he made her pick for one of her own choosing. You can have custom pieces done, be they rings, engagement rings, bracelets, earrings or necklaces. Super amazing shop. Check them out! Another excellent reason to stop by here is to munch on a fresh, hot, crunchy, sticky apple fritter. Good lord almighty I hadn't had one in several years but had been having a hankering. The fritter I ordered was everything. I would have wolfed the whole thing down right there but my tummy is what it is so I saved half for later. Delicious heavenly goodness. The duck pond is another fun feature where you can often watch dogs and their humans as well as ducks and geese of all kinds. I remember coming here with my grandparents when I was really little, and appreciate that it still looks the same as it ever did. Maybe not as immense as it seemed to kid me though. We love coming to Apple Hill in the fall. So many places to go to up here but this is the biggest one. They have so much to do. We came on a Friday hoping it wouldn't be crowded but still crowded. I guess maybe a little less people. We got lucky and someone was pulling out of a parking spot so we were pretty close. It's so pretty out here with all the fall colors. The parking is in between the trees to. They have a fishing pond, hay rides, pumpkin patch, wine tasting, and you can even get married here. It's really pretty up here. We hit the food first. I wanted some BBQ. I got the tri tip sandwich but it was teriyaki flavored. Disappointed since i just wanted it BBQ oh well still cooked great. We got a sour cream berry pie slice. I've been coming here for many years since my youth, several times with my extended family or with church friends/fellowship groups. I haven't visited in a couple of years, but I enjoy coming up to Apple Hill every chance I get, although it's usually not a good idea to come on the weekend in October, haha.. This ranch is a bit commercialized for my taste to be honest, but it's still has its charms. There's the big barns and the main building where you can watch apples get processed by original machineries from maybe the last century to be made into apple cider and apple juice, and also apple fiilling and sauce for making into pastries and other delicious treats. The main building, if I recall correctly, is also where you can order a meal that comes w/a slice of apple pie, of course, and they also sell yummy apples galore of every variety you can think of. There are also several booths/small shops that are part of HHR where artisan crafts and homemade little gifts are sold with Apple Hill themes that are perfect for the sentimental person who wants to bring home a souvenir for themselves, or for those looking for gifts to give to loved ones and friends, especially if they're visiting this area and will be traveling home and want to bring back souvenirs that reflect the beautiful Apple Hill and Placerville area in the greater Sacramento area and especially the foothills. Outside, you will find a large and lovely pond surrounded by grassy areas where you can picnic or just hang out and enjoy the beauty of this pretty place, and bask in the quiet serenity of the scenery all around you. Of course when it's busy, High Hill Ranch can get kind of noisy and the ambiance isn't the same, but most of the time this is a nice apple orchard/ranch to visit and the staff are friendly and helpful. They have fresh apples and a few other options to choose from and a variety of treats - apple cider, apple donuts, bear claw, caramel apples, etc. This location also has a little fudge store front towards the end by the pony ride area. There's a few things to do here - stroll around, grab lunch, pony rides on select days, and they even have a giant pond and I think people can rent fishing poles to use there. There's shop vendors as well but I mainly come to High Hill for the apple donuts. Truly the best I've ever had. Decided to get a few empire apples as well while we were here since I've never tried them. The guy over charged us for the apples, he said it was $2.99 / lb when the sign stated $2.29 / lb but we just let it be. The empire apples were more on the sour/tart end for anyone who's curious. read more

The apple fritter here is one of the best I've ever had! Lots of apple chunks, crispy on the edges and great for sharing! We got here on a Monday (11/24) around 10:30am and it was starting to get busy. We found parking right away close to the tent vendors. The line for the donuts/fritters was not bad at all. Took about 5 minutes. The staff members were efficient and nice. The only disappointment was no hot cider :( not sure if this is/isn't a thing at this farm, but that was one thing we were looking forward to. We rounded up all our treats and sat in the balcony patio of the Pie House. This is the first Apple hill farm as soon as you get off the freeway from Reno. It is very big featuring a beautiful pond for fishing, apple donuts, Carmel apples, fruit stands, vendors, lots of parking and food. I was a little disappointed that the taco restaurant ran out of food because we were so looking forward to a quesadilla and the chicken nachos. They do have regular bathrooms which is nice but pretty uncommon for a lot of Apple hill farms. I bought 2 Carmel apples for $7 each. The store had tons of jams, jellies, candies, etc and the customer service was good for how busy and stressed out they were from the crowds. read more

High Hill Ranch is usually a must stop. Usually our third stop. This ranch seems to be the largest. A lot more walking up a slight inclin to the restaurant and tent shops. Many different things to see here. They also have donuts, tacos, fudge sweet shop, hay ride, pony rides and a little pond with fishing. Many tables all though out for seating mostly picnic type tables. Outhouse restrooms and a trailer type restroom with normal sinks and paper towels. You park out in their fields under the apple trees. They have parking lot attendants letting you know where parking is available. The busiest farm on the hill by far. If your coming here getting here early is a MUST. The traffic is usually insane getting in. We went on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't too busy, started to get more traction as we were leaving around 11. The doughnuts here are solid. Lots of fun flavors but in my opinion og plain is the best! Not too many chunks and nice and crispy. There are always A TON of booths and vendors to check out and get lots of knick knacks and fun handmade items. The actual food place was closed but in previous times I've been here it's been ok. Made the trip out to High Hill Ranch with my wife and our dog Lobo -- and honestly, it was a blast. We kicked things off with some apple beer (highly recommend), then grabbed an apple fritter and apple donuts because... why not? If you come here and don't overdo it on apple things, did you even go to Apple Hill? The vibe was perfect for a fall day: families everywhere, the smell of cinnamon sugar in the air, and enough food stalls to make you wish you had a second stomach. Lobo had the time of his life just people-watching and supervising all the other dogs that strolled by. Pretty sure he thought the whole place was set up just for him. All in all -- good drinks, great treats, and plenty of space to enjoy the day. We'll definitely be back for round two (probably with another donut in hand). So many fun things to do. Lots of vendors. Pumpkin patch, apple picking, shopping, wine tasting.. The weather was nice so we were able to really enjoy the day. There's a grassy area around a pond if you want to have a picnic. Or you can try and snag a table. The lines in the market can be a little confusing, but the employees are helpful. There's fishing available, horse rides and many food items to choose from. Fudge fans will enjoy stopping by High Hill Ranch. On our most recent trip, I loved seeing all of the dogs that accompanied their humans. I just love how Apple Hill is pet friendly. There's many memories to be made here along with plenty of picture of opportunities. There's usually people directing traffic wearing orange "Herding Cats" shirts which I find pretty funny! High Hill ranch seems to be the most popular stop in Apple Hill because it is right off the freeway and has lots on offer. Parking was a bit unorganized and far out for a weekday but there was plenty of it which I imagine serves them well on busy weekends. They had more vendors and shops than most of our other stops so if you like shopping this is the place for you. They also had the biggest variety of caramel apples I saw all day including some very cute and unique ones ! It was so hard to choose! We enjoyed some caramel apples at the picnic area, relaxed by the lake and watched the geese. They had pony rides for the kids and there was a calm, happy vibe. They offer Mexican food on the weekends and a lumpia truck during the weekday so there is a good variety of food options to choose from. Place gets packed and understandably so! I didn't try the donuts but we did get the chili cheese fries. They were surprisingly delicious! The fries were reminiscent of good McDonald's fries - golden with a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior. Would skip the tri top sandwich as that's on the drier side. Great visit to High Hill Ranch today for the opening weekend to the season at Apple Hill! The harvest was great this year and the apples and everything made from them sure tastes good. Pictured is their traditional apple pie mad with 3 pounds of apples. Also had a delicious apples fritter with some of their apple juice. They have plenty of places to sit and a very scenic lake which is very relaxing. Picnic tables have umbrellas for shade and there are plenty of them to choose from. The main building to purchase pies has both indoor and outdoor seating. My recommendation is come earlier in the day as I assume it gets pretty busy on weekend afternoons. Wow this place was overwhelming in a good way. The parking was slightly confusing to navigate but we managed and found a spot (exiting was easier). FYI - there was more parking further back but not sure how to access that area, but definitely lots of cars there too. This place was also very busy. There tons of vendor tents all over and some underneath the main patio area. Lots of crafts, trinkets, etc. it was cool to see. There's a pond surrounded by lots of grass area. High Hill Ranch is our go to Apple Hill spot! We love grabbing a hot apple cider donut and enjoying the view of the pond. Their bakery is famous for their apple cider donuts and apple fritters. The barbeque is decently priced and filling. The pulled pork sandwich is tender and juicy. They offer whole pies to go or by the slice. We didn't get it this time, but we love the caramel apple pie and bake it at home. We also love the ice cream shop. The apple pie ice cream with fresh and cooked apples is one of our new favorites. There's plenty of shopping from local craft vendors, fresh apples and grocery items, and candy fudge shops. For activities, the fishing pond is a favorite. Other activities include hay rides, pony rides, and now a little kids playground. They do get very busy on weekends, so traffic and parking are a pain. The past visit it took us about 20-30 minutes to get to the parking lot after exiting the freeway. The overflow parking is in orchard, so the roads are very bumpy and dusty. read more

Haven't been here in a few years and unfortunately it has gone waaaaaaay down hill. Food was awful and the lines were really confusing. One line was for food and pies and another was for specialty apple drinks. We split our party up only to find out that we could only use cash at the specialty drink line, but we could have ordered drinks from the food line. No way I'm waiting in the 30 minute line again to order drinks that I could've ordered if we never split the party up in the first place. The vibes were also very different. Less of a whimsical fall adventure, and more of a fairground or circus atmosphere. I also found a dead rat by the table where we were eating. I get that Apple Hill is in the country, but if you can pick up trash after a busy day, you should pick up decomposing rats. Two stars cause my fritter was delicious. read more

I was so excited to to come by and having this be my first stop at Apple Hill was amazing. The donuts, the hot coco, the vibe and energy! I thought the donuts were delicious but the apple fritter is TO DIE FOR. It's flavored so amazingly and it's soft and with a crisp crust. The next time I'm only getting a fritter, I was highly satisfied. I think out of all farms, I truly enjoyed this one the most because there were so many things to see. All shopping and vendors galore. The small lake was also beautiful, it's a lovely place to go picnic and just enjoy. There were a couple of food trucks (one was a Filipino food truck serving lumpias and silogs) LoL We ate lunch at the Pie House Restaurant. The weather was beautiful at 75° so we chose a picnic table and ate at the outdoor deck overlooking the fishing pond. I'm down for High Hill Ranch at Apple Hill as long as I'm not the one driving. Brrrrr. Decided to head to Apple Hill for our annual Apple round up for thanksgiving and of course the amazing Apple donuts. Soooo yummy. Cinnamon and cinnamon glazed donut for the guys and me - an Apple fritter the size of my face. My fritter was still warm and full of delicious Apple pieces. The outside glazed but not too hard and the inside soft and sweet. So worth the $6 and I only ate half so I could still respect myself. This place sounds like a super fun place to experience in person and I bet the foods taste great on location. This review is for the frozen basic Apple pie, brought back from High Hill and baked according to the instructions. The pie looked beautiful and baked up golden. However, the filling was watery and thin, made of little more than large chunks of mealy, bland, seemingly unseasoned apples; the crust interior was thin, bland, pasty, and gummy. This might be the kind of place where you need the full experience of being there and enjoying things fresh; or perhaps some of their more complex pies hold up better to freezing and being baked at home.
