Perfect Spot for a Fall Day [Apple Hill|Camino CA] The number of orchards in Apple Hill can be overwhelming that's why each year my eldest daughter always has a game plan to visit farms we haven't tried yet (and some repeat visits to our favorites) This was my first time at the Apple Ridge Farms. We spent most of our time here. There was a lot to do including an actual u-pick Apple orchard. Apple Ridge Farms is dog friendly. BBQ and Bakery with a full menu including sandwiches, salads and sides. They had a special on apple pies this weekend... $20 for a whole pie. Picnic Area - got our lunch and enjoyed it in the covered picnic area. Love their fries! Apple Barn - frozen pies, pastries, apple cider, fresh apples, Christmas boutique Country Store - filled with jams, jellies, fudge, chocolates, and great gift ideas Nature trail - visitors are able to choose between an easy trail and a not-so-easy trail. We chose the easy trail but I think they are both easy. Flower trail - unfortunately our visit was in early November and we missed when the flowers were in bloom. September would be the best time to visit and check out the colorful zinnias. Free to access. Gem mining - daughter has enjoyed this activity in other places since she was little. She's 23 now and still has fun with this experience. There is a fee for this activity. We peeked at it, but didn't seem like folks were digging it. I think what this place has, is one of the cutest spaces. Large, thoughtful, cute, shop is adorable. Again, if you have young children, this is perfect. My issue is when we went in to shop (it was our last stop, still had approx $400 cash, our daughter said we are going to buy a lot, so we went in ready) and the cashier ruined our spending vibe immediately. Ordered one apple cider donut and an apple turnover. Service is great, but the bakery items were not. The apple cider donut is made "fresh" in the MORNINGS, so when you receive them they are cold but still soft (as they should be if they were just made that morning). It's a cake donut, so be prepared for it to be a bit dense. There was no cinnamon or nutmeg flavor to the donut whatsoever. It didn't really taste like fall to me, but instead like any other donut you can grab from a donut shop elsewhere. Dare I say even Walmart.. HARD PASS!! The cashier said her favorite thing was the apple turnover. PLEASE DON'T GET THIS! I feel so lied to, it's crazy! The dough was not flaky at all and almost soggy! It was reminiscent of if they microwaved it and the texture became flat. There was a good amount of apples inside, sliced in good sizes but it also had no cinnamon flavor! Just tasted like they cooked apples over a stove with a tiny bit of sugar. So bland, I couldn't finish this. There was a huge line for the "barbeque" that day. I wouldn't really call it barbeque because it's just tri tip and pulled pork sandwiches and burgers. The entire land itself was cute but nothing to write home about. I won't be returning. One of our families favorite farms to visit. This farm has something for everyone. Two shops with apples, apple cider, trinkets, fudge and unique gifts. They do have an eatery & a separate Bake shop. The food line for eatery is usually very long so get in line early. The bake shop was a short wait time each time we come. We love their apple & seasonal donuts made fresh daily. The tri tip sandwiches were really good too. Be sure to check out the family friendly trail to walk along the orchard. There are two paths the upper path is family friendly you can walk along the butterfly garden. The lower path takes you down and around the orchard and can be steep at times but a lot of fun to walk. Try out the Gold panning area to find some gold for the kids. For an addl charge they have a wooden maze for kids. They have a gated pond on property and many picture opportunities with the stand up frames to put your head through that are free. Big grass area to sit for picnic or just sit to enjoy the sights and sounds. some weekends they will have a craft fair lots of local art and crafts, soaps, jewelry and many more items for sale. Apple ridge farms is definitely one of the best places to stop on Apple Hill and has any and everything that you could possibly want. They have stores and vendors, hot food, a bakery, a pumpkin patch, A flower walk and the cutest cutouts for taking pictures. There is plenty of seating and the parking is ample and located very close to the action. We really enjoyed our walk through their flower area and they even have a longer more difficult trail if you want to do a hike with the family. Our dog enjoyed exploring and having room to roam. Watch for falling acorns though! There were large gusts of dusty wind on our walk and my husband got pelted by multiple acorns, one which left him with a large bruise. This was still definitely one of our favorite stops with so much to see and do. If you can only make one stop on Apple Hill, this would most likely be my recommendation. read more

This was a good stopping point for our family on the way home from Tahoe. We picked 7 lbs of apples for $22 ($10 for a bucket and $3/lb for every lb after the first 3 lbs). The farm grows three varieties of apples: Braeburn, Pink Lady apples, and Granny Smiths. My favorites are the Pink Ladies for their sweet tart flavor. We came just before Thanksgiving and it was definitely the tail end of apple picking seasons with many of the trees in the orchard picked clean. But if you walk further down into the or hard, there are still other trees with plenty of fruit. My kids had so much fun using the fruit pickers they provided, and my little ones proudly picked the lower hanging fruit. The farm also has a bakery with a variety of pies available including apple, peach, blueberry and strawberry rhubarb. Everything looked delicious and I wished we had the stomach to try them all, but we got a traditional apple and peach pie to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. We grabbed lunch on site for the convenience. and ate hot dogs, rib eye sandwiches, fries and garlic fries. Everything is on the pricier side, which is what you'd expect to pay. The hot dogs were okay but the fries were extra crispy and battered. We'll be back! read more

This is one of the bigger farms in the area. There was a line of cars going in when I arrived, but they had plenty of parking spots though. Tons of things to do here as well. There was an apple barn (with a sample counter), country store, little pumpkin patch, nature trail, barkey, and food. I got lunch for them. Got their pull pork salad, hot dog, and chili. Visited Apple Ridge as if it was a brand new experience only to realize I'd been there many years before when my oldest was just a little one. For the families with little littles, this is a great stop. They have a fun maze, pumpkin patch, numerous photo opps, and all the usual treats and lunch you'd expect. I'd say the fun of these attractions wanes when you hit the 5+ age group, so just be aware. Apple Ridge does boast a nice lunch counter and I think on this visit we discovered the best deal on lunch in all of Apple Hill. Order "sides" of pulled pork ($6) and fries ($4) and top it with chopped onion, pickled jalapenos, pickles and signature bbq sauce from the condiment station and enjoy! I also like the covered tables and seating options here! Apple Ridge also boasts a sizeable vendor village with all sorts of crafts and stuff to peruse. A decent stop for lunch with activities for littles, but if you're an older crew, this one may not be for you. read more

This is a very nice one and one of the few that actually has apples right now; I suppose there was a freeze that destroyed many apples this year. It seemed like there was some kind of farmer's market going on with lots of tents, but I just stuck to buying apples and trying some apple cider and an apple cider donut. This was our 3rd and final stop during our Apple Hill visit. We originally planned on going to Grandpa's Cellar but the line for the apple coffee flights were crazy, so we ended up going here instead. Apple Ridge was also busy since it was the weekend before Halloween. At this point in the day, all the apple orchards started to look and feel the same. I got a Hot Apple Cider donut and a Cinnamon Roll here, both of which were just ok. We walked a bit around the shops but didn't stay too long. It's a good idea to plan and research which Apple Orchards you want to hit up and get the most popular ones out of the way since the crowds, parking and lines can take up a good chunk of time. read more

This was my first time to Apple Hill and my 4th stop on the trip! This stop was my favorite and I would definitely return here!! Parking was pretty easy and one way in/out for the main road. There was one main bake shop that smelled amazing inside. Again, we were too full to eat at this point but everything looked really good. Down the way they had 2 barn style shops filled with Halloween and Christmas items. They also had jam/butter tasting. The lady serving the samples was very friendly and knowledgeable. What a great place for a day trip. I went to Apple Ridge Farms with a friend to go apple picking. They provide buckets and tools to pick the apples. It was a lovely time and very self explanatory. My kid did the maze several times and it was fun. He also did the fun gem mining and he stayed there for a long time. I tried the apple donut and it was good. A little far afield it is nonetheless worth a visit. Nestled in a beautiful forested country setting the buildings and infrastructure are new, pristine and very well cared for. There are several buildings with good walking paths, and each has a distinct offering. We noticed that even the crafts and gift related stuff (there's a lot for Christmas right now) is better quality. Prices seem fair. There are bins of apples and food products, including the ubiquitous pies and bakery goods. Everything looked good and fresh. There's a lot of good outdoor seating to grab a snack or a meal and head out to a picnic table under the towering trees. It was enjoyable to just wander place to place, and it seemed very relaxed and tranquil compared to other places visited. They began winding down, wrapping up and closing up so we couldn't experience it as much as we would have liked. I would definitely come back again. read more

It's been a couple years since I've been to Apple Hill and Apple Ridge Farms is always a must visit. It seems like every time that I come it gets bigger and better. They have lots of great food from both the grill area and the bake shop. Out of all the farms, I like their apple doughnuts the most. They have a large covered area (permanent structure) and 2 large tented structures for you to eat at with picnic tables for you to eat at. The gift shops have lots of treats and crafts for you to purchase. They have plenty of activities for the kids and plenty of opportunities for photos. 10/10 Dutch Apple Pie a la mode. Everything was so cute, and compared to the other orchard's pies, Apple Ridge Farms has the best Dutch apple pie. They have an easy walk nature trail that surrounds the beautiful Flower garden. Come during Fall and you can catch the red and yellow leaves fly through the wind. The service was good. The bakery and shop staff were so nice and gave us free samples of the jellies and salsa. Only sad part was they do not allow dogs inside the shops and bakery, but no biggie! Gorgeous patches of flowers part of a small trail loop. Didn't get a chance to go apple picking though I saw the sign say $10 admission. What I did get a chance for was have a yummy triple berry pie w ice cream. I know donuts are a big deal out here but for me, it was eh. Pulled pork sandwich and the cheeseburger is decent but not why we drive out here. Had a BBQ today sign but I asked about it at the place we got our sandwiches and they didn't really have anything, just the sandwiches and I guess typical fair food. Apple Ridge Farms use to be my wifes and Mine favorite farm , thats has changed. Unfortunately the last couple times we visited apple Ridge farms food was NOT good. Corn Dog was undercooked, batter was raw, smoked pulled pork sandwich was extremely dry, dutch apple pie was OLD , seems like the pie was baked days ago, even my wifes favorite apple turnover was extremely stale. This place has a little bit of everything that you could want from Apple Hill. It's such a kid and dog friendly place. The only thing is no alcohol. There is an apple barn, bake shop, hay maze, corn maze, pumpkin patch and gemstone mining. The apple barn had 3 variety of apples and a large array of Christmas decorations. There are some jarred products like apple butter and candied jalapeno. The vendors were fun to browse around. I got a wooden truck for my son. It was such good quality. I hope to get one each year to add to his collection every time we come here. The gemstone mining was fun for the kids. I think it's more fun for the little kids as the process is rather simple. It really is just panning for rocks in a pile of sand that gets washed away in the water. There are a few options to choose. I got the $12 green bag. It came with large rocks. The blue one has fossils and the other color had less rocks but bigger in size. It was good enough to split between two kids. Once we chose our bag, it was dumped in our pan and we doused it in water to wash away the sand and reveal the "gems". The gems are really just large rocks. Some were crystal like and we did get a rock half coated in gold. My son was happy to have struck gold. The maze does cost money. There is a pumpkin patch with only one variety of the typical orange pumpkins. Restrooms are porta potties. read more

Ok, the new maze is pretty fun, even though it isn't made of hay, And they've added a little platform on the outside that a parent can get up on to try to see their kids. Of course, you can't really see your kid unless your kid is tall, in which case you probably don't need to see your kid. But a fun time, you can go through unlimited times, and grown-ups are free if they are accompanying a paid child. Now they do have a vegetarian lunch option! They've added a beyond burger, and the kids grilled cheese, and generally expanded their menu. Check out the pics I'm posting.
