We've been here before for drinks and sat out on the patio & it's a great location! We came here after Joyful Journey's hot springs ravenous! The ladies we talked to at the springs steered us clear of this place & suggested the Fritz but that doesn't open till 4 so we decided to start here until the Fritz opens. This is not the typical foodie place we gravitate towards but pubs/sports bars have their place. The location is pretty, it has an island feel with their Bob Marley music playing which I like. We got the goodness mixed fried zucchini, mushrooms & pickles which was hot, fresh & hit the spot. And we got a double smash burger & that was really good too! The service was prompt & friendly. I'm sure we'll keep visiting as long as we come to Salida since they're pet friendly on the patio too. read more

I had the mushroom and Swiss burger that was on special, probably the best burger I've had in Salida. The bar and wait staff were great and it's plenty of room with TV's for sports and a nice outdoor area on the River. My only complaint was the draft beer was a little on the warm side. read more

Average food, weak drinks, poor service. I get it, there's an employee shortage. Not really my problem. Having the bus boy toss menus at you and the waitress only visit you to take your order is unacceptable. After 35 minutes of waiting I had to hunt the waitress down to pay the tab. Ridiculous. Now for the food, I can boil wings and toss them in Crystal hot sauce all day. I use the same recipe. But generally I bake them before I toss them. This is apparently not the case here. They boil and toss. At least make an attempt at cooking the food properly. Terrible. Partially cooked chicken is irresponsible. They shouldn't be in business... read more

This restaurant has a great location by the river. We came in for lunch with no reservations and didn't have any trouble getting seating. There were a couple of different servers who helped us and one was really friendly while the other not so much. There were a lot of people watching football, so probably a good place to go for that. Each time I've been here, the food has been consistent. Wings were clearly homemade. Burger was juicy and nicely cooked to medium with a fresh bun. My favorite is the portabella gyros; now that's excellent. There was one time I was unimpressed with the waitstaff. That woman is no longer employed at High Side. Mushroom Gyro! Interesting food to tackle as a veggie version but they pulled it off. The key to a gyro is a nice soft pita, which they pulled off. The feta was pungent and the veggies fresh. Granted, nothing has the texture of gyros, but some nice garlicky mushrooms on a soft pita? Sign me up! read more

horrible service got treated like we had the plaque after I found a fly in our drink . the food was awful the brisket sandwich was upsold as GREaT and was awfull the barbecue sauce was basically like vinegar ketchup loaded on the brisket wS way dry n over done never again will even consider and we r local . no handi cap access to the outdoor seating and once I told the waitress the sandwich was not good at all and I only tasted it once , she turned her back on us and never came back to the table n charged us for the sandwich instead of helping find a better dish or solution thanks for the memories low quality all the way around sad read more

Super great place! Wonderful people watching on the river & nice happy hour 3-4:30. We stopped in twice on our trip. The fries, edamame & cauliflower wings were tasty as was the beer. The hostess is a sweetheart. Be sure to come early. The second time we came, it was shift change so service wasn't as great. Even though we got there at 4:25, our waitress was busy & didn't get to us until 4:31. We only got a dollar off our beers & paid regular price for our appetizers. High Side Bar & Grill is the latest to occupy this tragic riverfront property. Some have said this location is cursed, however it simply boils down to running a tight business. High Side has taken the time to update the outdoor space making it a very inviting place for a summertime cocktail by the river. The owners are locals and take absolute pride in what they do. Although only having been open for a few days, their "soft opening" turned in to a full-blown open. Servers were consistent and prompt. Bar service was very speedy considering an overwhelming amount of drink orders. Their menu is currently limited to a selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and smashburgers. I've heard nothing but great things about the food. Myself, I've had the sweet and spicy sesame wings on three different occasions and can say they are hands-down the best wings in Salida, shoot, even Chaffee County. They even have pickled eggs! Oh for true out-of-town bar-goers, they have Fernet Branca... the only bar in Salida that has it.. Don't think these guys will be going anywhere for a long time. read more

We always come to sit by the river here at High Side on our way through Salida. I was psyched to try the locally made veg burger and the daily special of Hawaiian macaroni salad . After a long drive back from A mountain getaway, we stopped in Salida and had seen some great reviews of this place. Stopped in and were immediately impressed with the scenery, the art outside, the chill vibe inside, then the amazing back patio next to the Arkansas River. We were served quickly and with super friendly staff who you felt you nines for a long time - made me feel like a local. They were extremely accommodating to my daughter who has severe food allergies. Food was great, on point, their fresh squeezed grapefruit drinks were top-notch (had to get two!), and loved their poke bowls (having lived in Hawaii myself). We live here and first time back in awhile. Our waitstaff were both really good at their jobs. Pleasant and helpful. The food was not great! Gray burger, so overdone and absolutely no flavor. The margaritas we ordered were too sweet and as far as I can tell, very little tequila. The food used to be better. Probably not going back for awhile if at all. Sorry to write this! read more

Been here a couple times, food isn't bad, the outdoor patio area is nice, it sits off the river and they have live music. Went last night, they use the Toast system to check out customers, which is where the problem comes in, the bartender preset the tip, which ultimately is theft, I've had to fire servers for doing that. A good server/bartender doesn't have to steal tips, they're earned, not stolen. So just a heads up when checking out, make sure they haven't preset your tip. I'll start with the positives. The food is actually pretty good. Standard sports bar fare but done well. The beer selection is nice and you really can't beat the atmosphere amazing patio and river right out the back. So wait that's all great. Why 3* The service is not good. We saw the waitstaff once in an hour. No drink refills no ability to add another of the delicious brews. And finally the reason for the the review. Caution for vegans/gluten free I very much appreciate the servers honestly but when my daughter (who has celiacs among other allergies) asked after a few of the menu items it became clear that this place is not allergy friendly. We went ahead and ordered intending to eat quickly and leave to get her something. That proved to be problematic as once our food showed up we didn't see another server for 30-45 long thirsty minutes when we paid and left. It was pretty busy but there were plenty of servers to handle the crowd we seemed to have sort of been forgotten. Overall We won't be returning and hopefully if you are considering this place for a mixed allergy need group I can save you from a similar experience. read more

To start I am 61 years old and never had a more rude waitress in my life. Just so management knows who it was. She was the one with short black and blue hair. The younger girl who brought our drinks, food, and cleaned out table was awesome. The food was great, but we almost walked out at first interaction. We were excited to try this highly recommended bar and grill on the River. When we arrived, it was apparent that they were overwhelmed, extremely busy and understaffed. We sat at the bar thinking our service would be better. When we ordered the bartender appeared annoyed and rushed at having to bother with the time and day of us. Our food came out 50 minutes later (corn dogs for the kid, a philly and the recommended mushroom burger. It was all eh, average to boot. I would not recommend this restaurant but as busy as they are, am sure they will be just fine with a 1 star review. read more
