My first time at this shop. Brought in my 2023 Bronco to diagnose a clunk after another shop installed a lot of suspension work. Also had it re-aligned. They were extremely professional from start to finish. Found the source of the clunk (loose bolt), got the alignment fixed, and even went out of their way to meet my request for skid plate recommendations. If I could give a negative star ranking I would. I took my hummer in for an oil usage problem. I received an over 3200 dollar repair estimate. Which I paid in full at great negative impact to my fixed senior income and health. THEY DID NOT FIX THE OIL REPAIR PROBLEM. FURTHER, THEY CAUSED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT THEY CLAIM WAS NOT DUE TO THEIR WORK AND WANTED ANOTHER 500 DOLLARS TO TROUBLESHOOT. ADDITIONALLY, THE HUMMER WAS A REAL HAZARD TO DRIVE. IT HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ACCELERATION (yes, the hummers are noted for not being responsive but this was far below even that.) tim the counter guy made the observation saying he test drove the hummer and it was perfect. I dare say, if this performance is perfect, I question his knowledge of vehicles. There is a great deal more to this nightmare but suffice this review as a WARNING TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHADE TREE CAR FACILITY. read more

It's hard to come up with the words but after consulting multiple Thesauri I believe astronomical ineptitude is the best way to describe these guys. This is quite likely the most incompetent bunch of clowns ever to call themselves a business. Appointments mean nothing, zero communication, zero value placed on the customer as a human being. I made an appointment to have my vehicle looked at which they accepted. Drove 2 hours round trip to drop it off then never heard from them until I reached out a week later. Was assured they were working on it and that the tech was "with my car now" then 3 days later I got a call that explained that everything that I had been told was a complete lie and they had done zero work and that I could check back in 2 months. 4 hours of work day wasted, $120 in Uber fees just to be told I had been lied to. As a small business owner myself this pains me but facts are facts and this shop absolutely can not be trusted in any way period. And should be ashamed of themselves. I award them zero points and hope everyone who works there is at least mildly inconvenienced at some point today. read more

I was referred to High Tech back in the mid 90's by a fellow employee that had his "monster" engine built by High Tech in his Bronco to tow his boat. He over heard me calling around to get estimates to do a brake job on my 1988 Toyota 4X4 Pick up truck. When I called High Tech they quoted me a reasonable price compared to others. When I took it too them, I told them to call me with the estimate. Back then Bobby was their service writer. They told me that the rear brakes were OK and it only needed front brake pads. When I picked the truck up the bill was less than they had quoted me. When I asked them why? I was told that when they took apart the front hubs on my 4X4 axles that the grease seals were in good shape so they just reused them. How would I have known the difference? I have been going to them ever since then. At one point I had the second highest mileage vehicle that they serviced. My Honda Civic Si that died with 253,496 miles on it in my driveway. In September I took my 2008 Fit Sport into them to have a spark plug change and a valve adjustment done, as the Maintenance Minder instructed. They changed the spark plugs, but said that the valves did not need to be adjusted based on the lack of valve noise even though the vehicle had 105 K miles on it. As I watch the tachometer and generally keep the RPM's between 2,000 - 3,000 RPM's. Unlike my Honda S-2000 that has a 9,000 RPM Red Line and does not start making power until the V-Tec kicks in at 6,500 RPM. I still will not trust them to work on my (S-2000 Baby). As most technicians only see one or two a year. I do what it needs. read more

Very pleased! Found this place on YELP and thought I'd give it a try. They were able to get me in at 8 am and out by 2:30. Had a problem with my HIDs on a 2017 Ram. Looks like the original owner did a shotty job installing them. High Tech called and talked about options. Ended up putting factory headlights back on and everything's works beautifully. The staff was very helpful and inviting. Seems like a nice "mom and pops" type of place. Highly recommend and definitely will go back for regular maintenance in my truck. read more

I see my previous review no longer appears. I wrote a very detailed account of my experience and overcharging, but somehow it's been removed. In any case, the staff are very personable and friendly, but it doesn't compensate for the overcharging. I was not only charged double retail cost for parts, but paid for unnecessary work. They told me the recently installed plugs were incorrect for my BMW 530i and they needed replacing. Ignorantly believing it, I had them replace the plugs. After researching later, I found out there was nothing wrong with the original brand/type spark plugs they said needed replacing. So I not only paid double retail for the plugs themselves, but overpaid for having unnecessary work done. read more

I can not express my recommendation and appreciation enough to HTA. Specifically to Tim for his wonderful help with our recent issues with our Hyundai Santa Fe. After bringing the vehicle in with a very ominous engine noise it was diagnosed with needing a new engine. This was pretty shocking news to me and we left with Tim investigative the cost but a general ballpark was given at ~$10K. As you can imagine this was very bad news and we started looking at how we might afford this. The next day Tim called to say that he spoke with the Hyundai dealer and they said that it maybe under warranty. I did this and low and behold they fixed without us having to pay anything. In all my years of owning vehicles in several countries this is the first time someone has chosen save me money when they could have taken the money and business for themselves. High tech auto is amazing getting you all hyped up on what one Mechanic can do in the shop. The moment that 1 mechanic is out sick, the whole shop has no idea how to do anything basic. Basic being airhorn install or airbag lift kit. I coordinated ahead of time to schedule installation and even adjusted my schedule to make it work. I dropped the truck off early afternoon on a Tuesday and was scheduled to be done by Friday(3 day job). Thursday late afternoon, I got a call saying the job wasn't even started. But, they could have it done by Wednesday the following week for sure if they keep it Friday through the weekend and into next week. Fast forward to Tuesday (a week later and knowing Monday was Labor Day holiday), I am told they still have not started anything and they may have it done by end of week if their "sick" mechanic comes back. They recommended me picking up the truck just in case as it could be another week before they know anything.All in all, I feel the communication is horrendous. I feel if they have only one competent mechanic, they are relying way too much on 1 person to do all the important work. I believe that had they communicated properly from the first concern of not starting on the truck, we could have adjusted. In the end, I took parts and will now have to find another install shop. Certainly, they have the knowledge and attention to detail to do the job IF the only mechanic that knows what they are doing is working. Otherwise, you risk your vehicle having major delays, potential problems, or, in my case, parts but no installation.I was refunded the down payment minus parts! I understand people get sick every day, but that should not mean an entire mechanic shop gets shut down. read more

OUTRAGEOUS prices - stay away from this repair shop. This shop installed LED headlights in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler November 2021 ($155 labor). One LED headlight quit working last week (headlight pigtail adapter coming out of Jeep was broken) - this should be covered by warranty. I broke the adapter on the opposite headlight trying to troubleshoot. Here is where the rip-off came. I brought the Jeep back to High-Tech Auto (with the grill and headlights already removed) and they charged me $424.50 labor-only to replace 2 pig-tail headlight adapters and re-install headlights/grill. I called a Jeep dealership nearby and was told 1.2 hours labor is the average - I got RIPPED. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Great group of guys/gals that is my go to place for all repairs. I wouldnt take my Jeep Wrangler anywhere else. I had it break down one Sunday evening recently and had it towed to their shop.... I got a call at 8am the next morning that they had already completed the troublshooting and had a quote for necessary repairs. I recently went to High Tech to have some work done to my Jeep. I had a part purchased elsewhere installed here and they had no problems with that. Before I had the work done, I sent them the installation instructions from the manufacture and they gave me a total "out the door" price that was significantly lower than the other places in N.VA I contacted. Overall I'm happy with the work performed. It was a rare install and I couldn't find a place that had installed that part before, but their labor rate was reasonable. Their work was top notch, and I would recommend them to a friend. As a side note, I had to wait since I couldn't get a ride and was there for 6 hours. They were all really nice and didn't mind, and even included me in their lunch order. read more

High tech once again goes above and beyond. Having just got new tires shipped to the house and needing them mounted and balanced, I called High Tech. They fit me in, even staying late 15-20 minutes to get the job done. I was then able to get the Jeep inspected and role into the New Year on new shoes. I will be back as this is the only place in the area I trust my Jeep and Truck to. Thanks again for making room for me. - I used High Tech four years ago for lockers and new ring and pinion in my Jeep. Being the picky person I am about my vehicles I asked if I could do a partial install of some equipment (electrical and compressor) in order to make it work they way I wanted. High tech had no problem and completed my install above my standards. Even when we ran into little issues, they treated me right and fixed the one in a million fluke and even gave me some extra maintenance free of charge. Having just moved back to the area it's the only place I will go to for anything for my truck and jeep. Great customer service, great communication, quality work, quick service, and reasonable quote accurate prices! This is definitely the place to go if you have a Jeep or other 4x4 (I'm sure they also do great work on other vehicles as well). I took my '01 TJ Wrangler in to High Tech after I could no longer trust a mechanic of mine. He really messed up a transfer case rebuild. The wrong sealant was used (began leaking like a sieve) and as I later found out, the internal shift fork was put in backwards. Initially it took High Tech 2 separate visits to figure out what was going on, for which they charged for both. However, I won't hold it against them since they weren't the ones who created the problem to begin with. During the second visit, we realized they had to tear into my transfer case again due to shifting problems (shift fork backwards). They recommended I bring the vehicle back to my mechanic to warranty the work. Since I no longer trusted my other mechanic, I went ahead and had High Tech do the work. After that visit, I thought everything was going to be ok. Turns out the transfer case was still leaking. This time it was coming from the input seal of the transfer case where it mates to the transmission. So for a third time, I brought my Jeep back to High Tech. They didn't charge me for this visit though. I only had to pay for the input seal which wasn't much. I'm positive this leak was due to my previous mechanic's use of incorrect sealant around the input seal retainer. But since High Tech missed this leak the first time around (reason for the initial visit), they warrantied the work for me at no charge except for the cost of the replacement seal. Sounds fair to me! Lastly, they do great work and are efficient. Each visit only took a day to complete. They really pay attention to detail as well. When I examined the underside of my Jeep after the repairs, all the components were installed correctly just as they were before, exactly how I had previously aligned some of them. This definitely is not the case with all shops or mechanics. In the future when I have any problems with my Jeep I can't fix myself, High Tech is where I'm headed. Additional Rambling: In my experience, you need to go to a shop that has experience with your make/model of vehicle. You'd think Jeeps are stupid simple to work on that any place can easily repair, right? WRONG! I've had multiple shops and different mechanics FUBAR my Jeep so bad it's not even funny (including that one mechanic I mentioned above). So when you can't do things yourself, it definitely helps to take your vehicle to a shop who is familiar with your vehicle. That can definitely be said about High Tech and Jeeps. The tech who worked on my Jeep owns a TJ himself, so he was very familiar with what he was doing. If you need work done on your Jeep, I can definitely endorse High Tech as the place to go! I just went to High Tech for an oil change, but I called ahead in the morning and got the oil change that afternoon. The people I talked to, on the phone and in the shop, were all friendly, and I was given a list of services my car could use, but not pressured to get any of them right away. I saw a review below that says they had a small waiting room, but I think they must have remodeled. When I went, there were several chairs, in addition to water, coffee, sodas, and popcorn. The coffee was free; I didn't ask about anything else, and there weren't any prices listed. I'd brought my laptop and was able to do some work online while I waited. My jeep cherokee had a very bad death wobble due to multiple worn out steering components. One issue being my tie rods. In 2014, I took my Jeep to High Tech for them to install my JCR Offroad HD 1-Ton Steering Kit (UTK) and other aftermarket parts. High Tech has been highly reviewed and their front webpage says "Local, Convenient, & Honest", so I have continued to give them my business. First impression of the steering kit installation was great and my death wobble was resolved. Move forward 2 years to 2016 and my passenger outer tie rod for the JCR steering kit wore out and was rolling on itself causing a popping sound. I paid for a replacement tie rod end and had High Tech did the installation. Simple enough, things can wear out no problem. Well, fast forward another 2 years to today (2018) and I am once again experiencing worn out tie rods (both sides this time). I even failed inspection for play in my outer TRE's. On the passenger side TRE (second after 2016 replacement) I noticed the castle nut was loose and held by the cotter pin. For safety I tightened the castle nut and it tightened until it bottomed out. I was then able to grease my TRE's and get jeep passed inspection for time being. The following day I scheduled an appt with High Tech to see why I had play in TRE's and why they were wearing out after 2 years. Here is where the fun begins. High Tech told me the outer TRE's just needed grease to eliminate the play. Then they told me the passenger outer TRE looked fine and could maybe use a washer for correcting the bottomed out castle nut. After contacting the manufacturer JCR Offroad I was told "If the castle nut is bottomed out, it sounds like the ream went too far. It should make complete contact before the threads bottom out. If it's over reamed and the nut isn't tight, your TRE's will wear out!" When I told High Tech this, they made the following excuses: 1. If by "reamed", they mean tightened down, yes, I can confirm that the tech did. 2. I looked at the receipt and did not see that they reamed out the hole to make it bigger. 3. I do not see the tie rod installation or any special notes regarding the reaming/modification to knuckle 4. If we did any modification to O.E. parts, we would have put a note on the ticket 5. I can't find anything stating that we modified the knuckle or made any special adjustments to the vehicle 6. Only thing on the ticket pertaining to steering is the JCR stabilizer. Some other shop must have installed the tie rod The shop repetitively refused ownership of the issue. The shop told me that they did not install my steering kit in 2014 and that they don't have it in ticket notes. Well, that's because in their notes the service writer wrote install JCR Steering Stabilizer. JCR Offroad does not make stabilizers, their install instructions also explicitly say you do not need a stabilizer with their kit. Anyways my stabilizer is Old Man Emu. So because the service writer incorrectly wrote ticket, they are trying to wash their hands of JCR Steering kit installation. Let me tell you, High Tech most certainly installed my JCR Steering kit and I went to them because I wanted their professional help. I also knew I would need an alignment after service so I paid for that. So after much discussion with manufacturer, JCR Offroad, and I are almost certain High Tech incorrectly installed my HD Steering Kit. I always provide printed instructions with my aftermarket parts. In JCR's install instructions it requires reaming of the knuckle to fit tie rods for steering kit. In the instructions it says if incorrectly reamed the hole will be wobbly and that will result in a wobbly TRE. If the TRE starts to wobble around they get worse and worse until they wear out. All High Tech did was essentially tell me as a customer I am never right. High Tech has insulted me because of their errors and taken no ownership. I am not going to keep buying TRE's to wear out every 2 years because the original installation was incorrect. I tried to talk to the manager of High Tech, but when I arrived he was busy. I asked for the manager to call me, but he never did. At this point I have just given up. I will suck it up and find another shop and spend even more money to correct High Tech's mistakes. I recommend existing customers review the service writer's tickets and make sure they write what you request verbatim. That was my personal mistake in this. Good Luck! read more
