The business owner's response has only reinforced my concerns about how this situation was handled. Instead of addressing the actual customer-service issues I described, the response repeatedly focuses on the fact that my father is 85 years old and even questions whether an 85-year-old should be operating his vehicle. I find that completely inappropriate and unnecessarily disrespectful. My father's age does not give anyone permission to dismiss him, speak down to him, or suggest that his family is somehow failing to care for him. He is very much cared for and supported by his family. Mentioning his age was relevant because I believe an elderly customer deserves patience, honesty, and respectful communication -- not because I was asking anyone to ignore legitimate vehicle-safety concerns. I personally heard the telephone conversation because my father was speaking to the business on speakerphone. I heard the call end. When we later addressed what happened, we were told that the employee had not hung up on him. My father was then treated as though his account of the conversation was untrue, despite the fact that I personally heard it. That is one of the primary reasons I became so upset. This was never about asking the shop to overlook safety problems. If a vehicle has a legitimate safety issue, of course a mechanic should explain it. My concern is with how my father was treated, how the situation was communicated, and the charges and recommended repairs we were presented with. Those are separate issues from vehicle safety. Another major concern I had was the way additional repairs were presented after my father brought the vehicle in for something relatively simple. In our experience, the conversation quickly went from the original issue to a much larger and more expensive list of recommended repairs. When we did not agree to have all of that work done there, the situation was then framed as though we were knowingly allowing my 85-year-old father to drive an unsafe vehicle. That felt unfair and unnecessarily alarming, especially considering my father has three other vehicles available to him. Declining to authorize thousands of dollars in recommended work at one shop does not mean a family is ignoring safety concerns. It means we have the right to get another opinion, compare estimates, and decide where repairs should be completed. Customers should not feel pressured into approving expensive repairs because they are made to feel guilty, irresponsible, or afraid. If additional problems are found, they should be clearly explained, documented, and presented professionally so the customer can make an informed decision without being shamed for wanting a second opinion. I also strongly object to the owner attempting to make my father's age the issue rather than addressing our concerns. Being 85 does not make someone incompetent, dishonest, or incapable of understanding what is being said to them. And it certainly does not justify speaking about an elderly customer in a condescending manner after a dispute. I am sharing my experience and what I personally witnessed so other customers can make their own informed decision. Based on our experience, I would personally recommend getting a second opinion and a written estimate from another reputable repair shop before authorizing expensive repairs here. Compare the diagnosis, parts, labor charges, and recommended work before spending your money. The owner is entitled to disagree with my review. What they are not entitled to do is rewrite what I personally heard and experienced or use my father's age as a way to discredit our concerns. I stand by my account of how we were treated. Future customers can read both sides and decide for themselves, but I personally would not return to this business and would recommend looking elsewhere. On top of everything in the way we were treated. They completely absolutely overcharged customers just look through the Yelp reviews and you find how they find things to up charge customers. I dealt with this guy named Blake there. Nice enough but overall terrible customer service and he cost this place business. My steering column went out on my Lexus and I called them to see if they could help. I provided the part number and he was certain one of the "gifted" mechanics there would be able to fix my car. He also told me they had a list of vendors that he'd reach out to to get the best deal on the part. None of this ever happened. I called him for 3 days straight, it was always "give me one hour and I'll get back to you," never happened. I think he was just waiting for me to get sick of him... I did pretty quickly. THE CUSTOMER HAS VERY LOW PRIORITY!!!!!!!!!! In simplicity, our car's "check engine" light kept going off and on and we needed to pass a Smog Inspection. The fact that we ended up with a mountain of charges AND having to RENT MULTIPLE CARS after delay, after delay, after delay, there was nothing offered to at least acknowledge the blow!!! Not one apology for the delay or extra charges until we mentioned it!!!!!! While they had our car, we were even told that a part was lost during shipment!! Followed by "have a nice weekend!" Really??? How can we KNOW that the part was really lost??? So after 30 days of waiting, which included 3 FAILED PROMISES of the car being ready, and being told "we're closed on the weekends", which meant more days of RENTING CARS, when asking them for simple consideration of the more than DOUBLE THE INITIAL ESTIMATED COSTS, (our bill went from $650+ to $1600+) and ONE MONTH of rental cars, LOST PARTS, etc, we were greeted with a $150 "discount". When asking to have the contact info of the owner, we were given the same business card and not until I asked for the specific contact info, only then were we given her "extension number". Do not recommend this place. I was told my muffler was shot on the inside and that I needed a new one. I declined them. High Tech Auto Care wanted almost $400 for a new one. Today I went to a muffler shop and they told me nothing is wrong with the muffler. The hanger bracket had a broken weld. The muffler shop rewelded the bracket into place and I was only charged $65. Had an appointment @9am just to not get an update until after I asked around 1, just for them to tell me it wouldn't be done for 4 more hours (my car wasn't even in the bay yet). I was quoted $165.00 for a BG EPR and MOA oil change and I've been using BG Products for five years on all my vehicles. I've never paid more than $90 for a BG EPR and MOA service. I found another shop in Oceanside, Ca that offers the same service for $86.00. I also asked for a quote for a BG quick clean transmission service and was quoted over $435.00. I would call weekly for an update and was given an excuse each time. Do to the fact that she does not drive anywhere at all and her car basically has a new car smell she realized that they were full of crap. So this business is listed as a AAA approved repair shop. AAA is running an ad in the Westways Magazine for a $34.99 auto repair service (primarily an oil change). After looking on AAA's website I found this company listed with them. This company scheduled an appointment with me. They knew the year make and model of car I was bringing in. I arrived at the scheduled appointment time and they took my keys. They immediately said this car requires synthetic oil. I said no it does not! The owners manual that came with the car says it uses conventional oil. Then they said it "should run at least a synthetic blend". I said once again it does not require anything but conventional oil per the owners manual that came with the car. This ad does state that full or blended synthetic oil is extra cost. I asked for a conventional oil change like the ad says and they said "they do not carry conventional oil". When asked if they could contact their local auto supply store and get some they said "No, they would have to order it". it became apparent that they wanted to upsell an unnecessary product. I then asked "So you are unable to provide the service as the ad states using conventional oil"? At that point I lost all trust with them and stated I would talk to AAA about them. Ricardo (The owner) has performed work on my 04' Ford Excursion (Diesel) and 06' Saturn Ion; both had major and minor repairs done to them. The work is done in a timely fashion and the owner and his wife are very friendly. The bad review is for Budget and their vehicles, not the business; that needs to be stated. Every time I call the business, they have answered; on a working business day. I have had many vehicles repaired at multiple places and High Tech Auto Care has finished faster than any other business, including Pep Boys and the dealers. They have done work on the engine, exterior doors, added a new rear view mirror (temperature and direction), radio repaired and installed, rotated tires, window regulator, replaced oil pan and fixed leak, fixed transmission leak, etc. The price for repairs and service hold about the average of vehicle repair prices, with labor and parts. We've gone here for about 3 years now and have worked w one guy who we trusted. He always explained the issues to us and would give us the cheapest route even if it wasn't in their best interest. I would never come here again !! First of all I got a flat on the street of this establishment. I called aaa who towed me there . They said I would get a discount Ok . So I ask if they had 2 tires since it's recommended to get 2 changed when changing one right? They tell me no they had to special order them So I said ok I'll take that one tire . I took my car for a smog check and for my back breaks.. after I dropped it off they called to tell me my car broke down while in their possession and wanted to charge me more thank 2,000 to get it fixed... they told me it was because the car had no oil but 1 month prior I had had an oil change done at Pep Boys (which I had paper work for) no one could explain where the oil went or why it broke down.
