    Chicken street tacos
    Alden M.

It was Tuesday so you know I had to grab me some tacos!!! The chicken street tacos were on special so I grabbed 3. The tacos were packed full, fresh, & really flavorful! The cashier was super nice & the restaurant was clean & played great music!

Plastic bag for take out orders

Love the food, but I'm really disappointed to see the small plastic to-go bags still being used. They're totally unnecessary and could easily be replaced with paper bags. I want to keep supporting this place, but the avoidable plastic waste is getting hard to ignore.

Pretty small Surf & Turf More beans than surf and turf

    1. No greeting when we came in. This was our first time in here and we were looking at the menu and no one at the counter said anything. 2. When I checked in there was a discount of $1 off when you checked in, the girl at the counter said she never saw that before?? So why do you have that for checking in? The place was clean just packed customer service. 3. We were pretty hungry after doing amazon deliveries, and it's about $12 something for the burritos. Pretty much the same price at certain places where we live. The burritos were done I kid you not 5 minutes after we paid. Not as big as the burritos on the other side. Surf and turf is what we got. More beans and rice, than anything. The meat was very little at the bottom and a couple of shrimps. I felt like it was more of a bean and little shrimp :/. The flavor was good but more beans and rice than meat and shrimp. Doesn't come with chips and salsa you have to pay for that and the chips, most were stale.

When we entered the restaurant, we knew it would be a fun experience, as the interior decor offers guests a little of everything, as shown in my pictures. The restaurant is small but well-maintained, and it must be very popular because, when we arrived, over 12-15 other guests were seated at various tables. The steady flow of customers never slowed during our visit. Our waitress, a young woman (forgive me for forgetting your name :( ), provided excellent service. She was very friendly, outgoing, and hardworking. She got our order right the first time, THANK YOU!! The entire staff was friendly and worked nonstop in various roles, whether taking food and drink orders, delivering them to guests, cleaning tables, or filling take-out orders. My wife and I ordered the special of the day--chicken fajitas served with black beans and rice--while our daughter chose a bean-and-egg burrito. The food was fantastic! It was flavorful, delicious, and satisfying. The black beans were some of the best I've ever had, as I am a huge fan of beans, period. This was a wonderful dining experience.

Because of that, my experience may be influenced by expecting a bit higher quality, especially given the other food options in the area The Cantina in Mill Valley is a pretty standard Mexican spot with a Tex-Mex lean. I usually enjoy this style of food; I was a big fan of places like El Torito in SoCal, but this one didn't quite land for me. We ordered two burritos. The portions were generous, but the flavors were very mild. I love bold, spicy food, and these were lacking seasoning in my opinion. I ended up taking half home and adding avocado, lemon, and salsa from my own kitchen to give it the punch it was missing. We also tried the queso fundido, which was interesting. I hadn't had it prepared quite like that before, and it definitely leaned more Tex-Mex. It wasn't bad, just different from what I expected. Unfortunately, the service was a letdown as well. I had to find menus myself, and the only ones available at the bar were happy hour menus. Later, the server told us that happy hour isn't honored on holidays, which was disappointing. If that's the case, those menus shouldn't be out at all--it sets expectations that weren't met. Overall, if you're looking for a basic Tex-Mex spot and aren't big on spice, this might work for you. For me, between the bland food and the service issues, it's not a place I'd rush back to.

First of all, we came during an off-hour, around 3:30pm, and there was still a line to order at the counter. They provided complementary ice water from a dispenser outside with cups, which was really nice. Once we placed our orders, we stood outside with everyone else as the indoor area is pretty small with only limited counter seating at the window. We waited about 5 minutes to order and another 10-15 for our food. Most people set up camp on the tailgates of their cars in the parking lot, so we did the same. Pro tip: some people brought camping chairs and coolers to make it into a real tailgate, which I thought was really cool. - Pollo al horno: ordered the Large plate which came with generous portion of chicken, white rice, choice of fried garlic plantain or sweet plantain (or one of each), side of beans (choice of black or pink), and a side salad. Chicken was marinated very nicely and wasn't too dry. - Bistec encebollado: ordered the Large plate also which came with the same as above. Steak was cooked well and surprisingly tender enough to cut easily. Both plantains were good but I really liked the garlic one because it was different than the sweet plantains I'm used to. The Large plate portion sizes were huge! Although the price did reflect this, I think it was still worth for the amount of food given.

They feature things like feta cheese or carmalized onions. We all agreed that the crust was amazingggg. But it was so thin and floppy that ingredients just slid off. But here's a hot tip- the kid menu pizzas are totally full size pizzas, which the waiter failed to mention. So 1 cheese pizza could easily feed 2-3 little kids. We ordered one for each kid and went home with a TON of cheese pizza leftovers. The zucchini fries are tasty but served with an aoli that tasted like straight mayonnaise. Dinner for 4 , plus tax and tip came to $150. We're going with a solid 3 stars. An overall decent experience, but nothing to get too excited about.

Got there around 3pm and was told that a table for two would be about a 30 minute wait, so it was not as bad as we thought it would be, considering that the whole parking lot (which was probably the only downside; it being made of gravel and without distinct parking designations making finding a spot incredible difficult and annoying) was full. The inside vibe was great, with tons of people drinking/eating and having a good time. When we got seated, we ended up ordering just a few oysters and a 3pc fish and chips. The oysters were pretty good and fresh, with a great vinaigrette on the side to pair with them. The fish and chips, however, were the obvious stars of the show. The fish were nice and golden, with a very crisp texture, and more importantly large and generous. The fries were nicely seasoned and plentiful. The fish was really tasty (you can choose the type of fish depending on what they have on hand, and some cost extra between $2-$10. We chose the standard option for the day: Rockfish), easily one of the better fish and chips I have had - just an incredibly simple, but well executed dish. While the tartar sauce was a good pairing, the real standout pairing was Hook Fish's own carrot habanero hot sauce with the tartar sauce and the oyster vinaigrette. I have never had something like a carrot based hot sauce, but it really works by contrasting the spiciness of the habanero with a slightly sweet carrot undertone. Strange, but it gave the classic fish and chips a unique twist that sets it apart from the competition. While eating we saw tons of different dishes fly out the kitchen as well, such as poke burritos, large portions of chips and salsa/guacamole, and fish tacos. After the experience we had that day, we will be forsure making another round back to Hook Fish to try some of their other options. Their fish and chips are a must.

I came around 4:30pm, and the restaurant was empty, so we were seated immediately. Service was quick and efficient. I did hear a lot of the loud conversation between the two girls at the register about Instagram and TikTok.... I ordered the super burrito, which was nicely toasted, but overall it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out either. There was no real spice or bold flavor, and I couldn't quite figure out what it was missing. The horchata was pretty basic. It tasted more like plain milk with cinnamon sprinkled on top rather than the richer, more flavorful horchata you'd expect. I also tried the Baja fish tacos, which were disappointing. The fish wasn't crispy enough and lacked flavor. The tortilla was easily breaking apart. It's like they took the tortilla straight out of the bag because it was cold and didn't look cooked. It came with tortilla chips that were over-fried and borderline burnt, though I wasn't sure if that was intentional. Another reason this ended up being a lower rating for me is the owner's response to feedback. As you can see in other reviews, Tommy tends to get very defensive when customers leave criticism, which I found pretty unprofessional. After I posted my review, he actually messaged me directly (see screenshot), which was honestly off-putting. Yelp is meant to be a space for customers to share their honest experiences, whether positive or negative, and responding in that way doesn't reflect well on the business. I also live in San Francisco, where there's no shortage of authentic and high-quality Mexican food, so I stand by my opinion. Being told my palate isn't "on point" felt dismissive rather than constructive. If anything, I'd just caution others that if you leave feedback here, be prepared for a defensive response from ownership, which may impact your overall experience beyond just the food. Overall, I was surprised given the strong reviews. The meal felt pretty bland across the board, and unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Also the owner's attitude doesn't deserve any business. After the owners negative and defensive responses, I know I won't come back.
