As a resident for 4 months I can say, with certainty, I am in love with Highgate and the staff!
I was a homeowner for 25 years and decided to sell and downsize. I wanted to stay in Tysons . I held 3 approved apps for luxury high-rise apartments [apt] in the immediate Tysons Corner area, after looking at about 15. I was about to sign a lease with one of them, when, driving through the neighborhood, I came across Highgate.
From the moment I saw the contemporary low-rise design I was impressed. I entered and was sold by the open, inviting lobby with a fireplace that opens to a zen garden. No leasing agents were available, as they were with other clients, so the Manager, Rhonda, attended to me. She listened to my concerns about the other apts I had looked at, and highlighted the 2-bedroom I am currently in. It meets ALL my needs! This apt has a 3rd 'den' which is really another bedroom without a window. In fact, some of the other buildings I looked at actually printed 'bedroom' on their 1+den apartments and tried to pass them off as 2-bedrooms!
What really sold me is the price! I'm paying less for this '3-bedroom' than all the others I looked at were renting comparable apts without the 3rd room!
HIGHLIGHTS/AMENITIES:
-Very diverse (culturally, age, gender/identification) staff and community!
-Not a "Frat House", as a resident of a nearby apt building described their situation (repeated by others in that building)
-Only 6-floors. No 15 minute waits for the elevator to exit for work in the morning (as described by a resident of a different high-rise nearby)
-Parking ON YOUR FLOOR, 2 garage exits, access to 3 different streets. No 15-minute wait to exit the parking garage and gain access to the 1 busy street, as I have witnessed in one high-rise nearby
-Nice party room and theater room
-Great social lobby with plenty of nooks and seating. Fireplace with ample seating. Food prep/serving area with very high-end appliances (same in party room)
-Year-round deck outside the party room, overlooking the park (great seating areas, games, high-end grills, fireplace)
-Pool adjacent to the deck area
-Large gym with state-of-the-art equipment
-[soon] Onsite LARGE Republik Coffee house connected to the lobby.
-A REAL DOG PARK! Open to the entire neighborhood! I lived in the area for 25 years and had to drive too far to get to any dog parks. Now I walk out the back door! If you're a social dog person, come by at 5:30pm and meet the regulars from the neighborhood!
-Pet Grooming center for residents. 3 bathing tubs, hair dryer, indoor play area, etc.
-Onsite (resident) dog boarding/walker (ask leasing agents about this service)
-FUN! The staff host regular BBQs, wine tastings, dance parties, movie nights, etc.
STAFF:
While the manager that acted as my leasing agent, Rhonda, has moved on to bigger and better things, she set the tone for the amazing staff and interactions I have encountered here at Highgate! A large number of them live on the property and are valuable members of our community!
-Leasing Agents: Each of them are genuinely friendly, caring, and considerate individuals. They are available to help with any question or concern you have, even after you move in.
-Concierge Staff: Mark and Janea are the full-time staff members, with Debra, Victoria, and a few others on the weekends. They are all welcoming, cheerful, friendly, intelligent, and helpful.
-Maintenance Staff: Highly professional and friendly. Attentive to any needs we, or the building have. I strive to use the service request system rather than adding Marcel to my speed dial!
-Cleaning Staff: This crew is really attentive to the details. They really take pride in their work and are extremely friendly.
SPECIAL SHOUT-OUT:
In deference to the negative comment the first yelp review made after her bad experience, and probably her own bad mood, I feel it is important to defend the leasing agent, Wendy. Wendy is not only a leasing agent, but an on-site resident and, by far, the most caring member of the Highgate community. Wendy goes out of her way to help residents and co-workers, regardless of the time of day, or day of week. She always has a smile and kind word for ANYONE receptive to it. I have personally witnessed Wendy carrying her own cleaning supplies through the building, and upon inquiry, she informed me that the construction company turned 4 apts over (new building) for move-ins that weekend, but the apts weren't cleaned. On her own time, she cleaned these apts. Most of these were apts for residents she didn't represent as leasing agent. She is out every morning picking up dog poop that people leave overnight. She helps neighbors with things like an occasional dog walk if your busy; loaned her SUV to one resident so he could take his pet to the hospital.
