Steve is the most unprofessional repairman ever. He was working with a brand new Uline Ice Maker for a client that never functioned, and he had to go through a warranty process that began on February 17, 2025. I was very patient, and when I hadn't heard from him, I reached out yesterday, April 8. I waited almost 2 months to hear back from him. When I finally did, this was his text to me: "Uline rejected the order. I thought it was at your request, (which is absurd. I trusted he was handling everything. I don't even know who to call). You're simply the worst. After waiting multiple days to get them to come out. They showed up. We had a slight problem buzzing them into the gated community. After trying twice we went down to open the gate manually. Unfortunately they were not able to wait the 5-10min it took to get down there. No phone call just took off. Have texted and called multiple times to apologize and reschedule and they have ghosted me. No return calls or texts. So bad I can't believe it. Will they respond to this review? Steve was great. Repaired our microwave. But, before he came, he asked a few pointed questions, even suggested a simple reset that may have fixed the problem, unfortunately it didn't. But, by asking his questions, he had a pretty good idea of what the problem was before he arrived, so had the proper parts with him to take care of it quickly. Looked at our less than frozen freezer, took some info and came back a few days later to attempt that repair. Unfortunately, he could only perform a temp (hopefully a year) fix, because parts were no longer available for the older machine. He was honest, kept in touch when he was on the way so we could corral the dogs, and pricing was fair. Highly recommend. read more

I recently had a warranty issue on a U-Line icemaker, U-Line gave me Highland Appliance as their service provider. I called Steve and he advised he would call me the next morning about a date & time. Never heard from him again! I called him numerous times with no response, I called U-Line and advised them about the situation and was told, "yeah, we have a difficult time getting him to return calls." I have no idea if he does quality work or not but I will say he is the most unprofessional service company I have had the pleasure not to do business with in the years I've been here in La Quinta. After a very BAD experience with All Pro Appliance repair we did a little more online searching for another Kitchenaid repair technician. We came across Steve at Highland. We had been told by All Pro that we needed a new condenser to fix an ice maker issue. Seemed a little fishy to us so we called Steve out and he said not only was our ice maker fairly new all that was wrong was that the line had been disconnected (hello...we suspect All Pro and them just wanting a new condenser job to the tune of $4000). We recently purchased a condo in Palm Desert, and in the transaction there was insurance on all appliances for a year. Very soon after moving in, the washing machine stopped during mid-cycle. I got to Highland Appliance and Steve Lopez through my home warranty company, but whatever the source, Steve was fantastic: knowledgeable, responsive, quick and neat. We had a circuit board in our fridge that was failing, but not dead. He was an effective advocate with the home warranty service. This was a tough situation; the manufacturer lists the board as on backorder, but it is permanently on back-order. That Steve had built credibility with the warranty company really mattered. The warranty company found a board (somehow) and Steve installed it right away, checking to make sure it worked properly. He showed me the old board and explained where and why it was failing. He knew the fridge like the back of his hand. No mis-steps. No delays. Amazing! He really went the extra mile to get this job done; he came out late in the day and finished right before Christmas; we were really worried the fridge would die right in time for the holidays. read more

Steve from Highland Appliance Repair was sent out by Old Republic to diagnose my refrigerator problems. He came out and stated he would have to have Old Republic order the part and it would take a month. When I checked back a month later, he told me it could take up to a year!! I called Old Republic back and he had NEVER sent them a diagnosis so NO part was ever ordered. Old Republic tried to contact him and I did too. No response I had to start all over with a different vendor to provide a diagnosis . The new appliance vendor sent by Old Republic fixed the issue ON THE SPOT. I wouldn't recommend him. read more

My home warranty company had sent a work order through another appliance repair company, in mid December. Our icemaker was not working. Two months later it's still not working. I got my warranty provider, old home republic insurance to cancel that work order and give me a new service provider. They sent a work order to Highland. The next day I talk to Steve, he asked if he can come by between 4:30 and 5:00 the same day, shows up right at five, comes in diagnosed the problem, goes out to his truck gets a part, installs it, and it's fixed! In and out of the house job done! In 22 minutes! Something the other company could not accomplish with two visits over a period of two months. Viking Microwave Repair We bought a new house in Palm Springs eight years ago, with a set of built-in Viking appliances. After dimming and acting up for some time, the lights on the microwave display went totally out. In an initial set of calls, I learned that I needed a new control panel (the computer card which drives the electronics), which apparently is a problem with many microwaves over time. The first two quotes I received were $450 for parts and labor. Since a new microwave was only $750 we reluctantly decided it made sense to buy a new Microwave, with all new components. The only local dealer for our microwave was Best Buy. They are so understaffed theses days that you can not call up local stores anymore to talk to an employee. So, we drove out to Palm Desert to talk to someone there. The store was empty, and and there was literally no clerk in sight in the entire large appliances section. We went to the front and asked, and after a half hour someone showed up. He knew nothing about our microwave, or about built-in microwaves in general, and had to look everything up on-line with a slow, malfunctioning computer. Even then, he could not give us an installation amount or date. Two other clerks were summoned, and they were similarly unsuccessful. We went home and called Best Buys 800 number for "expert" help, and we had the same problems. They finally quoted us over $200 for the installation, as it was a built-in, but did not know if we would need another $200 install kit to fit the new microwave to the built-in area, as opposed to being able to use the existing kit, since the new microwave was the same model as the existing one. In frustration, I called a different vendor recommended by Viking - Highland Appliance, in Indio who works the entire Valley. I talked to the owner, Stephen Lopez, who was very knowledgable. He said he would install the new microwave for half of what Best Buy wanted and doubted we would need a new install kit. I bought the microwave, without installation, from Best Buy. Stephen came by on a timely basis for the install, had the microwave quickly out of the oven wall. He told me us at that time that we really did not need a new microwave, and he could get a new control board and fix the unit for only $200. We agreed to do this instead, and he called Viking to order the part. We returned the new microwave. Stephen came by promptly when the new part arrived, but it turned out that Viking had told him to order the wrong part. In fact, Stephen wanted had asked for the correct part, but Viking had insisted the part he wanted was the wrong one. Now, Viking was telling him, he was right about the required part that was needed. Stephen returned with the new part, only to find that the new part had been damaged in shipment. He had to leave again, without resolving the problem, and he insisted it was no problem, and he would not ask for more money. The fourth time was a charm. Stephen arrived with the new, undamaged part, and had the unit fixed in a flash, working perfectly. In this era of disappearing service, I can not recommend Stephen more enthusiastically. He walked into a frustrating situation, with relatively little compensation, he came by four times (including the initial estimate), twice having to return incorrect or defective parts, and he was completely pleasant and up-beat about the entire ordeal. He also saved us hundreds of dollars! If you need any appliance repair, especially for a Viking appliance, do yourself a favor and call Stephen at Highland Appliance. read more

Stephen was great. Amazing! Like so many others below, I went through our home warranty company and thought I'll get another questionable repair man. Not the case. I reached out late in the day, and Stephen said he could come in the morning on the following day. He said he would call at 7:30 to give me a more specific time. He called right on schedule and then got here when he said he would. Then, better still, he quickly diagnosed our washing machine's problem and had the part to fix it immediately.
