I never knew that San Diego had Christmas Tree Farms so, of course, I had to check it out! I was in between a couple, but saw that this one had a winery on site & I was sold. Make sure to check their hours because some days are reserved for advance reservations & they do stop selling on a certain date. They had 2 types of trees, ones that shred & ones that do not. It is a big lot so you can roam around & choose your favorite one. Grab a pole which is marked by feet & get it cut! $20/feet. read more

Amazing! The kids cutting down our Christmas tree in San Diego county has been something we have been living ok'ing for for a while now. Some farms say you get to but you really don't. Highland Valley you GET TO! It's awesome the kids had a blast. We got to talking and learned there is also a winery on the property so we went and sampled about 7 different wines and ended up purchasing 4 bottles along with our tree. The staff and the owner were simply amazing. We had a blast even brought our boxer who played with their dogs. We made an appointment and we're the first ones there that day so it was also very cool to be there by ourselves. It really gave us the VIP feeling knowing that this is the same treatment they give everyone. Truly an exceptional place. read more

We visited last year to pick out a Christmas tree and enjoy a wine tasting, and it was such a special experience that I reached out this year to plan my proposal on the farm. The owners went above and beyond, offering custom wine bottle labels for the memory, arranging a private wine tasting for our families and staying open late just for us! The wine is delicious and unique, the atmosphere is warm and festive, and the staff is incredibly friendly and truly makes you feel like family. We decided to take a day trip to this Christmas tree farm in Ramona today. The weather was crisp and clear. Not sunny hence the darker photos. It's about a 45 minute ride from San Diego over hills and mountains and valleys. Oh my goodness! All that fresh air just loving it. This Farm is over 60 years old as people have already bought their trees at this point there were only a few people there. What I loved about this place is that it was so unpretentious and you could feel the love there of the people that ran it . I've been to the majority of wineries in Murrieta and Temecula and never felt so good about a space like this. Well, that's just me keeping it simple. There is a small Winery here as you can see from the photos The Vines are bare. We didn't buy or drink any wine but it has some really delicious sweet hot cider. They also make their own pomegranate balsamic vinegar.. there were a few old trees around that has leftover pomegranates. There was a man playing guitar in a woman singing old songs from the'70s. I can't begin to tell you how peaceful and homie this place was. I could have stayed there all day doing absolutely nothing except breathing in the air and seeing all the space. We will definitely go back there next year and chop our own tree. Please support your local farmers it's a hard job but they keep on doing it for us. read more

I've always loved Christmas, and wanted to keep the spirit of the holidays alive living in the city (big change from a small town country girl). I found this place, and am so glad I did! Really gives you the "feel-good" vibe of the country. I loved picking out my own Christmas tree and also loved how they offered hot cider while strolling through the beautiful trees (all sizes) and listening to the sounds of the adorable goats on the property. REALLY wanted to love this place. Coming from New England, it was my families tradition to cut down our own Christmas tree every year. I was so excited to try this place. We made the drive down from Temecula. When we pulled in there was little direction as to where to go. We found a young girl at a booth, who was VERY unfriendly. We asked her the prices & how to get a saw to cut down our own tree. She said we could cut it down ourselves but the 8 year old kid worker had to be present for safety.. I've been to a million Christmas tree farms, every single one of them hands you a saw and let's you wonder out with your family to cut down your own tree. Then you drag it to the isle and the workers help you. Price is $18 a foot (Wow they even count a small twig on the top of the tree ! It seems like you'd buy a 9 foot tree and only actually get a 7 foot once trimmed!) We walked around, the trees were not worth $18 a foot but we were willing to pick one just for the experience. We walked over to try to find a worker, we waited for 20 minutes.. not one worker came over. 3 other families said they were waiting as well with no help.. it wasn't even that busy . Our 4 young kids were getting very impatient waiting so long.. Very disappointing.. so we left. There was NO Christmas music.. the petting zoo cost money (imagine! For the price you pay for a tree you'd think they'd let customers enjoy something free of charge) no candy canes, nothing festive didn't feel like Christmas at all. There was one guy who had an art gallery set up.. we had to ask him where to go because there was no workers around!!! He was no help either. 0 stars if I could. Do NOT recommend. HUGE let down. Don't waste your time driving there. Would've had a better experience at Home Depot. read more

Saw mixed reviews, but wanted to find a place to hunt and cut down a tree. Unfortunately, very poor choice of trees. Hardly any trees in 6-8 foot range. Pretty ugly pine and skinny cypress. 20 dollars a foot! No Christmas music, no live music, no train. The grounds were pretty messy. Can't believe this place has the stars it does. Very good place to get a christmas tree, friendly staff and great price. Also they are open to public to take professional photo without charging extra fee. I called them to make sure before I went there to get my 2017 family christmas picture done. I know some of the christmas tree farms charge some fee if you want to take some professional pictures there. This place is nice! will go back to get my tree! definitely recommended! read more

What an awesome experience! We decided to try something new this year i stead of getting a "mainstream" tree from home depot or lowes. We found this fresh cut tree farm in Ramona. We loaded the kids and were on our way. We were greeted by a nice man dressed as Santa and a friendly black Lab. After roaming the tree farm a bit, we found the perfect tree and the owner was nice enough to cut it down for us! They even helped me tie it down on my roof rack. I forgot rope and they were kind enough to provide some twine. The kids loved it the whole experience. Afterwards, we trekked over to the winery for a quick wine tasting. Pretty average experience given all the high praise they advertise on their website. There was no live music, no train rides, and the petting zoo was just penned animals (that I'm not entirely sure wouldn't bite and kick you upon entry). When we asked about the wine tasting (again, advertised on the website), we got a rather rude response along the lines of "it's a little early". Save yourself the price gouge and headache, go to Pinery down the street and get about a 20% more appropriately priced tree with better customer service. read more

The wife and I took our boys (2 and 3) to chop down our first Christmas tree. We had a great time roaming through the trees trying to find the right one. All the staff is great, even the owners came out to see how we were doing, giving the boys candy canes and hot cider. We found a great tree and had a great time. It's really pretty out in this part of Ramona. The boys particularly liked feeding the reindeer and watching the turkeys. read more

Closest place to North County that I could find where you pick your own live tree and have them cut it down for you, so it's as fresh as it gets. Fun for the kids to walk through the mini forest of trees to choose one. The trees themselves are 'natural' so expect some character vs. cookie-cutter perfection. Bit of drive to get there, but a beautiful one - I had no idea San Diego could be so green. The real kicker is that this place is also a winery called Principe di Tricase, with tasting room! So, fun for the kids AND the adults. Alfredo the proud Italian owner and winemaker takes you through his wonderful portfolio of estate grown wine, late harvest wine and vinegar! The tasting room is humble, but the personal and friendly attention from the owner, and the quality of the wine, more than makes up for it. Be prepared to join the wine club or at least spend some money on bottles because you'll feel obligated. But the wine is really good, some award-winning in fact and reasonably priced ($20-$35) so it's well worth it. This was a wonderful way to spend our black Friday, nice drive, getting our Christmas tree, and wine tasting. Pack a lunch! read more

Until moving back to SD around a year ago we've always trekked out into the woods for our Christmas trees, so we were looking for an experience that was a little more significant than simply heading to the corner lot. Our family (2, 4 and 5 y/o) had a great time! The kids really enjoyed both walking through the tree farm as well as the winery area. The wine was great too and the family that runs the winery are very welcoming and informative. I wish them tons of success and we will look forward to being back in the near future! read more

After several years of having a fake tree it was time to get a real one. And what better way than to go pick an uncut tree?! My girls 8,6,4 had so much fun playing in the trees, with cut branches and helping to pick a tree. The family that runs this are very friendly and the guys cutting, shaking and netting the trees are busy but friendly! We enjoyed a glass of wine while our girls checked out the animals - chickens, turkeys and sheep. They fed the sheep too. All in all we had a great time and I'm sure my husband was happy to NOT cut the tree. ;) read more
