I even decided to get my eyebrows and lip waxed and the girl who helped me gave me lots of tips and told me how to grow them out so they look more even. She was jerking me around a little and accidentally splashed water on me (I don't think she even noticed that she did this, but it got in my eyes.) Don't know how this place has so many positive reviews. Had an appointment at 3:00. I arrived at 2:45 ready. They were behind schedule so I wasn't seen until 3:30. I only came in for a blow dry which was done terrible. Two different people blow dried my hair.... I went in for a blow out & they couldn't do that. Then the lady asked me if I have styling cream at home I could put on even though that's their job to do that for me. Never coming back here. read more

I purchased a Groupon for the full foil and haircut. I was able to get an appointment just a couple days after I called. I know that some businesses offer an inferior service to customers who purchase a voucher, but this salon does not seem to be among them. Gabriel listened to what I wanted (lots of blonde highlights in my naturally dark hair) and did exactly that. Although my highlights hadn't been touched up in a good while, he wasn't rude about the state of my hair. He took his time with the foils, doing a small amount of hair at a time so the final product would be nicely blended rather than striped. Had a great appointment with Rodrigo/Rod yesterday! I have heavy curly , shapeless hair that is a little dry due to highlights, among other things. Because of all this, I had grown used to just pulling it back every day. Rod took his time, listened to me, played with my hair a bit and then transformed my hair , giving it shape and body and a new light feeling and styling it wet and curly! No one is able to do that correctly!! Truly a miracle worker! I had a deva cut a few months back- that did little for my hair compared to what Rod was able to do. And my time with him was never awkward- moments of appropriate quiet and then I'd be laughing to something he said. Highly recommend Rod if you have curly hair and want to give it new life!! So this is a rewrite of my initial review from October, where i only gave 3 stars due to my dissatisfaction of the haircut. This new review is taking place in December, as i was finally ready to go back to Highlight Salon and have the hair-dresser fix my hair by cutting an additional 3inches off. She acknowledges the mistake from the previous time, and she did a very nice job this time around, she gave my hair alot of attention, she wasn't in a rush, from the color to the cut to the blow dry, im very happy I went back and got my hair redone there. I was having a tough day, rushing to the salon to squeeze in a haircut between work and picking up my daughter from daycare. I figured I'd have to skip the all-important blow-dry in order to make it to the daycare in time. My stylist (I neglected to get her name) wasn't going to let that happen. She worked incredibly quickly so that I could walk out of the salon with a gorgeous blow-out. I had my daughter only three months ago, so my personal hygiene has taken a back seat recently. This was just what I needed to feel like a human being again. To top it off, when I didn't have cash to tip, she said, "don't worry about it" and told me to go get my little girl. I can't express how grateful that made me feel. Not only did she give me an amazing haircut, but she also gave me empathy and a completely stress-free moment in my hectic life. And a VERY good head massage when she washed my hair! I will definitely be back to this place, and not just because I need to double-tip next time. read more

I have had my hair highlighted for about 25 years! I didn't understand why my hair would come out with reddish tones from time to time. A friend of mine told me I needed a corrective hair colorist. I made an appointment with Saliba Shako at HIGHLIGHT SALON for corrective color. He took the reddish and brassy tones out and gave me a dark blonde base with blonde highlights. My hair color looked great on the first visit only. UPDATE (couple of years later) My color was fantastic when I left the salon the first time. However, the second visit back my color didn't look as great as the first visit. My third visit back I was told Saliba Shako was now working at the Brookline salon. I was shocked he didn't mention it to me. I went back to the salon anyway, but the color would never be what it was the first time. My twin sister and I had a wonderful experience today with Rod and Gabriel. We have been salon hoping all over Boston from Newbury Street to South Boston and have never left with hair close to pictures we've shown or anything close to what we ask for. So naturally we were a bit hesitant and questioning everything move they made (sorry boys!). We have blonde hair and always ask for frosty cool highlights. We have hair insecurities because we struggle to keep our hair healthy no matter the treatments and products we use- the price you pay for being blondes married to a flat iron.. I have gone two times now with a groupon for a full foil, cut, blowdry and deep condition for just $100 and have been extremely satisfied with the customer expereince and the quality of the hair cut / foil. I just returned from my second visit to this salon, and now that I'm finished crying I can write this review. I first found this salon through Groupon, and on my first visit had a decent appointment with Saliba. However, this second visit has been the worst hair cut experience of my life. I had originally made an appointment for 2 days ago, but upon arriving to the salon the stylist told me that she was uncomfortable cutting curly hair. I was frustrated, but appreciated her letting me know prior to cutting my hair. She ended up making me an appointment for today with Saliba. Upon sitting down in the chair Saliba informed me that he does not accept Groupon deals. Understandably, I was frustrated because I was clear from the beginning that I has a Groupon, so why would the other stylist have made this appointment? I told him that I was not willing to pay more because I had been clear about having a Groupon, and that I would have used the other stylist except she was not able to cut my hair. He then argued with me that she Could in fact have done it, and then told me that I don't even have curly hair. Which is 100% false. I was about to get up and leave when he began to angrily highlight my hair. He proceeded to aggressively highlight my hair, forcefully yanking the hair clip in and out of my hair, and not speaking one single word to me the entire time. I spent the remainder of the appointment in near total silence, panicking about what was going to happen to my hair given that he was so obviously angry at the situation and trying (unsuccessfully) not to cry. My Groupon was for a cut, full foil, deep conditioning treatment, and blow out. I did not receive the deep conditioning treatment OR a blow out. By the time the appointment was over I has tears streaming down my face and couldn't wait to leave. I have never experienced such unprofessional and rude behavior and will NEVER be returning to this salon again. Luckily Groupon was able to refund me for this miserable experience. read more

SALON. a co-worker told me about this amazing salon she went to. she got highlights that looked incredible. normally, i go to a different salon, but i thought i would give this place a go. (i also found a groupon, so how could i say no?!) called on valentine's day and was able to get an appointment for a cut, color, blow dry- the whole sha-bang! i met with Denise, talked about what i want cut and color wise, my usual routine, products that i use/should use. girl knows her stuff! i have super curly hair, so i always feel a little nervous changing my hair. (they offer wine, so helped take the edge off ). normally, for a cut, color and blow dry takes over 3 hours for me. This is my first groupon experience and i am very disappointed. 9/23/15 Had an appointment at 4 with saliba, was around 10 minutes late right when i walked in the two ladies were very friendly and nice. I got to my sit saliba comes out asked me what i wanted to get done etc, he mentioned i would need a toner since my roots are black (obviously) i told him its okay i know how it will turn out because ive had YEARS experience with colored hair. so he did my hair really fast and was not gentle at all, he had an attitude for the first hour or so which i am not exactly sure why, is it because i am an international student? or is it because i didnt walked in the salon with a Chanel or Gucci bag? i dont usually write reviews , this is my first yelp reviews because i feel that i was taken advantaged on yesterday at the salon just because i am quiet and i dont complain does not mean you can just do whatever you want to my hair. now my hair has thick orangy highlights on top while the back is acceptable with BLONDE HIGHLIGHTS NOT ORANGY. some parts of my head is blonde and some is orangy. is this because the toner? no.. its because he was in a rush and wanted me in and out ASAP. if it was because of the toner then why does the rest of my head looks fine? i just called and told them about this, was told they will call back within an hour - still waiting. if i was called back to come in and fix my hair, it better be complimentary because i would not spend another dollar at this salon. Called to make an appointment and from this brief interaction decided not to get my hair done here. I asked for an available appointment was offered one time on Saturday at 9:30 but unfortunately, I had a conflict. It was short notice on my part so I was not expecting much. I asked about the following week and was offered a 1 or 11 on Monday and I clarified that I had one appointment that day at noon so I could not make those times but was otherwise available. He then got frustrated and told me to tell him a day and time that works so he doesn't have to go back and forth. I had been pleasant and polite during our conversation and was surprised by the rude response. There are many ways to say this more politely and plenty of salons in Boston that can at least make it through scheduling an appointment without being rude. Go elsewhere and support a salon that can, at the very least, manage to be polite while scheduling an appointment. read more

This place is the real deal. I always love going to Highlight to get a new 'do and they never disappoint. This time around, I had Saliba work on my hair and he is a true pro. I went in with no ideas or inspiration - I just knew I needed a cut badly so figured I would get a trim to hold me over. But Saliba gave great suggestions and executed. Poof! In less time than a lunch break, I'm a new lady with a trendy style. I couldn't recommend this place more for their expertise, friendliness and convenience. Love, love love! read more

I hate to leave an okay review on this salon, because my experience at first was really good! I usually like to wait a month or so for hair reviews, just to see how the style/color grows out. Making the appointment was really easy: just a quick phone call in, and I was placed with Ramy. I needed to reschedule last minute on the day of the appointment, and they were absolutely fine with it. There were no questions asked. I initially came in with a Groupon, for full highlights, deep conditioning, and cut... which I later changed to a balayage with a one process just to cover up my premature grays... which added about $100 to the total bill. The appointment itself was around 5 hours long... and I could tell by the end that Ramy was frustrated with me. I have a lot of hair... and he was being extremely attentive with the balayage... there was a lot of teasing/folding involved... and he was working from the bottom to the top. However, since the entire process took so long, the bottom part of my hair has been extremely overprocessed (and is now slightly damaged). The top part of my hair is slightly underprocessed -- meaning the color of the balayage isn't really consistent throughout my head (despite the toner). Now here's where the actual issue lies: I am a 20 year old female, and around 25% of my hair has gone gray. I only ever go to a stylist when I think I need to cover up my grays, because having so many, so young is extremely frustrating as a student trying to find jobs. When it came time to finally cover them, I could tell that Ramy was extremely frustrated with me (having just balayaged all my hair for about 3 hours). So he made quick work of the dye and the toner... I was barely processed for 15 minutes, before he was washing out the dye. He then tried to blow dry my hair, only to realize that none of my grays were actually properly covered... so I was rushed back to the sink, under the guise of getting my "deep condition" from the Groupon (which I'm sure he would have skipped, if not for the botched job of covering my grays). I was then processed for another 10 minutes. I've gotten a balayage before, and have gone to a salon to get my grays covered a number of times. The dye for covering grays is usually permanent: as in, the color does not fade, and my hair just starts to grow out gray again... which means I can go around 4-5 months between appointments. But not even three weeks out, and my hair has gone back to being extremely gray. As if I never got them covered in the first place... which is not what a paid $200 (the total cost of the trip). The initial experience itself was actually really good and 4-star worthy! (Try not to let all the cons I mentioned before dissuade you). Ramy really did try to put me at ease, and even though conversation was sparse, it was still a pretty good experience. I walked out of that salon, and got a bunch of compliments on my hair, and it made me feel like a million bucks. My only problem is the staying power of the dye (which made them lose a star). Three weeks out, and I don't know what I'm going to do with the amount of gray in my hair. I will say the Groupon is a really great deal... and I'm sure you would get what you paid for... just don't go tweaking the deal, and you should come out a lot happier than I did. read more

I really wanted to like this salon! I recently bought a groupon voucher to get a keratin hair treatment. (I've done many in the past, so I was expecting a similar result), the staff was friendly, and the hairdresser (Gabriel) explained to me what he was doing but for some reasons I wasn't fully convinced of his expertise but I decided to not make assumptions. He missed a lot of spots, especially the front which is one of the main reason why I get keratin treatments done on the first place. The blowout and straightening process was very mediocre compared to the ones that I've gotten in previous salons (I had to straighten my hair again at home). I waited a month before writing this review, my hair is frizzy again especially my roots and that usually happens after 4-6months. read more

Denise is fantastic. I should have written this glowing review a long time ago. I have been a loyal Denise fan for about a year and go in regularly to Denise for: Blowouts, cuts, and color. Since Highlights Salon is located right around the corner from my office, I come in and see Denise whenever my hair needs care. I have wavy, textured hair and Denise has no problem giving it a great cut and blowout. A blowout can take up to an hour with other hairdressers and Denise is able to do it within 30 minutes. Amazing! In addition, she is just an absolute pleasure and I always look forward to seeing her! read more

So I went here last month and got my hair cut.3 stars are for my hair.My hair came out great.My reason I will not give them the other 2 is because they are rude.The dirty looks giving by some people that work here is crazy.Makes you feel kind of uncomfortable even if it's not directed at you.Also when I was leaving I was about to make a future appointment and at the same time I was looking in my purse for money for a tip.I didn't realize I had no cash on me and asked could I put it on my card.He said no cash only.So as I'm about to say okay I'm gonna run to the ATM and get cash for his tip he just rudely dismisses me and walks away.So whatever that's fine you want to be rude,no tip for you and I won't be back.Sucks though because I really loved my hair. read more

I was in town on a business trip, googled hair salons near me and found this place. I had my roots touched up and one of he best blow dry experiences ever with Ramy. He expertly matched my color and styled it perfectly- all in about 80 minutes. The price was also very reasonable, the salon was nicely laid out, and it was an overall great experience. I'm sorry to say that this is one of the worst foils I've ever gotten and I've been coloring my hair for 15 years. I had to run to get it fixed the next day and it's still not right because of the terrible chunky, stripy job they did. Besides the Kelly Clarkson 2002 inspired coloring job, the man who did my hair was a bit of a creep and made me pretty uncomfortable by hitting on me throughout the entire appointment. The woman who greeted me was rude and didn't believe me when I showed her my Gilt City coupon print out. She had me download the app to show her the voucher "because a lot of people try to trick them". I'm not one to complain (especially publicly), so I hope anyone reading this takes this review seriously. Not worth the savings you'll get with Gilt City or Groupon ladies, trust me. There are lots of other great places in Boston that will make your hair beautiful :) read more
