I found this salon in Groupon, called about having a balayage, the manager on the phone gave me a Groupon price although Groupon did not offer this. Making an appointment was easy, I came in and was met by Rodrigo. I've never had a preferred salon or stylist before but because of Rodrigo, I will definitely be going back! I have never done anything to my hair besides getting a cut and this was such a wonderful experience. Rodrigo is truly an artist. I've gotten many complements on my hair since I had it done this past week. I wish Rodrigo could come to my house every morning to style my hair! I came to see Lule for color and cut on Christmas eve. Even though it was a holiday and everyone was anxious to close early and go home, she took her time and gave me undivided attention. It's been over a month since the appointment and I am still in love with my blonde balayage. Lule was able to achieve a beautiful blonde color which is a hard thing to do on my naturally red hair. She also suggested a really good product for aftercare that I use all the time now. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, or lack thereof. I live abroad and was looking for a good salon to get my hair colored while in Boston for an event. When I got off the plane, I called the salon to confirm my appointment time (which was within the next hour), and the receptionist said that they stylist had to run errands and wasn't available to do my hair. When I asked about the nature of the errands, I was told he needed to run to the bank, etc. and more or less blew off the appointment. This left me scrambling to find a decent hair salon that took walk-ins on my tight timeline. Highly unprofessional receptionist, stylist, and all around service. I came here as my last ditch effort to get a balayage that I loved. The last few times I've tired I've ended up with a really warm, dimensionless blonde all over that looked a little brassy in spots from day 1. Honestly I was nervous to try again. I bought the groupon for full foils and upgraded to the balayage with an additional charge. It was still a deal. My stylist Rod worked quickly and had me close my eyes while he dried the front. And when I opened my eyes I was shocked! I finally had the bright, cool blonde Instagram-worthy hair. My naturally light brown roots blend into the blonde highlights so well you can barely tell where they begin, and there's actually dimension! Rod is truly a master colorist and also gave a really nice trim and blow out. I can't recommend him enough! read more

Highlights came out very very yellow and too chunky in the front. Stylist was 45 late for my appointment. Due to that, I had to rush out before really getting a good look at the work. Seems like a nice salon and nice people, but overall disappointed and honestly kind of embarrassed with my hair. Might have to find another salon to tone it out. I had a Groupon for a cut, deep conditioning treatment, blow out, and full foil highlights, and Doina (?) did an amazing job. She was very friendly but not overly chatty, which I really liked, and she (as well as the other employees I interacted with) called me by my name which took the experience up a notch. She offered me water and coffee, took her time understanding what I wanted, and made my highlights look so natural and blended in with the rest of my shoulder-length blonde hair! The wash and deep conditioning was very thorough and she even took extra time to re-cut my hair when I decided I wanted it a little shorter. Came here for the first time after reading good reviews on a Groupon Deal I had purchased. I called to make a "first available" appointment and was given Rod for a single process color, a blowout, cut and deep conditioning. I was pleased to say the least. Rod was phenomenal. He was professional, helpful and made me laugh the entire time (I have a lotttt of hair, so my appointments are long). I get a simple color (black) for my hair, but let Rod have fun and decide what cut and style would look best. He gave me some long layers and blew my hair our into a curl, that I LOVED. I immediately made a follow up appointment with him for a month and a half out, and was again, nothing but pleased after that appointment. I just visited Highlights Salon last night and will definitely be coming back here. I got a full foil, cut and blow dry and it came out amazing! Saliba was my hairdresser and he works very quickly but is very good and precise at what he does. I love the natural looking highlights he did. Saliba is nice and friendly and so was the staff. I should preface this with the fact that my hair is a b.e.a.s.t., damaged with multiple dyes / lengths, thick unruly curls. I had a groupon for full highlights and scheduled an appointment. I was very disappointed with the service I had. I never left the any hair salon feeling disappointed and unsexy at all. I was not satisfied with the service from the time I called to set up an appointment. When I called to set up that appointment the guy name Sal were extremely rude and said you should arrive on time. When I came In for my appointment , Rod was the one who did my hair was extremely rude. He kept on saying "you been here before . I remember you" . Trying to tell him I never been here before and this is my first time. He kept on insisting it. Very poor customer service and had a major bad attitude. He didn't want to listen to my advice what I want to do with my hair. Refused to do my highlights and decide to change my head that had full highlights before into a single process hair color and that's not what I wanted. He had more attitude issues. My hair is now my most favorite red with gold highlights and fantastic cut!! The entire experience was top notch, from glass of wine to relaxed atmosphere to loulou, who I enjoyed talking with about boston winter details. I got a haircut package from Groupon and Ramy was my stylist. The package comes with a conditioning treatment. But they just applied a simple conditioner as they would do with any normal hair wash. It dis no good to my hair as such. For the haircut, I decided to trust the stylist and go as per his recommendation. He cut my hair very quickly and blow dried my hair. Before i even noticed the haircut properly , he curled my hair and gave loose waves. I was initially happy with the output as i never tried waves on my hair and so i enjoyed it. However ., after 2 days, i showered my hair and realized that the haircut is shapeless, my hair looked very thinner than usual and i completely disliked it. read more

I trust him implicitly and having had the opportunity to talk to him over the years and see his passion for his art. He approaches his job the way we all would like to, as a fun challenge and with enjoyment. You'll read lots of descriptions of the ambiance, or the bells and whistles at a salon, but I look for a professional who tackles his job with enthusiasm and Saliba certainly does. I ordered the groupon for the haircut, deep conditioning treatment, and blow out with single-process color. I knew exactly what color I wanted and even brought them hair extensions in the neutral light blonde color. They tried to tell me that they couldn't do it in a single process when I've had it done before just to make me pay for a double process. Since I had already paid for the groupon, I decided to just to cut my losses and pay for another single process. What Rodrigo (Rod) did was a nearly white, bleach blonde hair color multiple shades lighter than what I wanted. It looked absolutely terrible, was not at all what I wanted, and then I had to pay $100 for the single process that I was told would cost $70. I also didn't even receive the deep conditioning treatment. The manager saw me as I was leaving and offered to have me come back in to try and fix it. She was very nice, however, I feel that my colorist just didn't really know what he was doing. I reluctantly went back in the next day, and Rod fought me on going as dark as I wanted. He used three different toners, and I ended up leaving with a slightly darker, purple-gray toned light blonde. It's very trendy, and a big improvement from the day before, but I've never felt so stressed out in a hair salon having brought in a swatch of exactly the color I wanted and being willing to pay for it, I expected to be able to trust them to do it. Rod (he is amazing) did a cut, partial highlight, deep conditioning treatment, and blowout for me. I'm obsessed. He did an amazing job coloring it (I'm a blond and going to a new salon for highlights is always terrifying). He also talked me into getting a pretty hefty haircut due to my uneven and dead ends. I usually HATE haircuts, but I love what he did. He said "can you let me do what I want? I promise you'll love it. You need it." Sure enough, he was right. I tried hard not to give this place a bad review because Denise and the owner tried hard to fix Victor's (i think that is what his name was) mistake but the damage was already done. I called the place they told me they will give me groupon value so i don't have to buy the groupon. When I went he came to greet me i showed him several pictures of the balayage I wanted. It was ashy dark color. He bleached my hair once but the color was way off I told him this not what I want I could feel it that HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT he was doing, i still trusted him when he said he will do it. So he took me to the sink and put the blow dryer on MAX HEAT and started blow drying my hair (with bleach) to the point that I could SMELL MY HAIR BURN(I am not exaggerating). I freaked out and told him that I can smell my hair burning. It was end of the day so he was rushing too. He was like no "I am going to make it lighter" the color I asked was not light it was completely different shade. the owner came and he saw it - He knew that he screwed up, so he told him to leave. instead he tried to curl my hair and make it look good - but it was a nightmare. I could not stop crying. so he told me to come back again and he will book me with Denise. The next day, Denise was super nice and she tried hard to fix my hair. My hair looked great when Denise did it. And she repeated the process another time after a week so the color can stay and it was complementary. I was happy with what Denise did. She knew what she doing and took every step necessary to fix my hair. After that while the hair color was fine for a month, not only the color faded away ( now it is ugly yellow color), but my hair from blow dryering over bleaching my hair has not recovered even after months. It is so dry and fuzzy - I am not able to style it, I can't leave it open and I cant even put it in a ponytail because it looks like a broom. I don't care about the color I could go back to my natural hair color but I can't fix my hair unless I cut it. It took me 4 years to grow my hair this long and I am getting married in few months. If you have go to this place go to Denise and NO ONE ELSE. read more

Run for your life! I have been having my hair colored for years and have never been treated so poorly and received such a horrible service than I did going to this establishment. The man who calls himself a hairstylist - but is in no way shape or form a hairstylist - screwed up my hair color twice- when I very nicely told him it was not the color I wanted - he yelled at me!!..and then what I ended up with was awful! Less than a week later all of my roots were showing - so embarassing!! As someone who has had a bad experience at a salon with cut and highlights I am always very hesitant to try somewhere new, but a coworker recommended him and combined with the groupon deal, I decided to give a try. My cut and color is perfect! He listened to exactly what I wanted and made sure I was happy each step of the way- even offered a glass of wine! I'm from CT and am ashamed to say in the last year I've lived in Boston, I've continues to go back to my old hair dresser on trips to visit family. Do not go to this place. I had the worst experience when I went to redeem my coupon for full highlights, cut, blow-dry, and deep conditioning treatment. I showed Denise the picture of what I wanted, which was a balayage with copper colored highlights to accentuate my brown hair. She told me that my coupon was for full highlights, which the salon doesn't perform on curly hair because it won't look good. She charged me an extra $35 for the balayage, and after she and I agreed no blonde highlights, she gave me blonde highlights which made my original color look dull and did not suit my face. She rushed through the appointment, at one point to take a phone call from her daughter, kept tugging my hair when she washed or brushed it, deep conditioned it for two minutes while I had my head laid over the uncomfortable sink instead of sitting in an comfortable chair. I left the salon happy with the blowout, but didn't realize how blonde my hair was until I looked in other mirrors. I called the salon the next day to get it fixed, and the person who answered the phone did not seem to care how upset I was, offering no apologies for what happened. He said "no one is available to fix it today, but Denise will be back on Monday." I asked him to speak to the manager, but was told he would not be back until Monday either. I insisted on getting it fixed on Saturday because I really didn't like how blonde it was. The receptionist finally agreed to fit me in for a 20 minute appointment to add more toner, but I was too nervous to have someone else from the same salon fix it considering how bad other reviews are for this salon. I went to Denise because she had good reviews. Today (Monday) I received a rude message from Denise stating that there are cameras everywhere showing how happy I was when I left, and the owner watched the videos with her which showed how happy I was, and that she did exactly what I wanted. She said that if I'm looking to get any money back, I won't because the salon would have to be at fault, which they aren't. She didn't express any concern about my dissatisfaction, was very defensive and unprofessional in her voicemail message which I will happily play back for the owner. When I called Denise back (which I felt uncomfortable about after the message she left for me, and actually asked to speak to the owner, but Denise answered and said he was on vacation), she was still very defensive and refused to listen to anything I had to say and kept talking over me. She offered to fix my hair for free, but I told her after the way she has been speaking to me, I do not feel comfortable returning to that salon. She said ok, and told me when the owner would be back if I wanted to speak to him. I have never been treated so badly before by someone providing a service which I paid for, and will absolutely never return to this salon!!! read more

I bought a wash,deep-condition, and blow out on Gilt City after reading the great reviews here on Yelp. It was also within walking distance from my work which was a plus. I called as soon as I received my voucher and made an appointment the next day around lunchtime. It was so easy and painless and the woman on the phone was very nice and attentive. The salon was clean, very close to South Station, and the people were very welcoming and friendly. I told Luli that I just needed a trim and long layers and she did exactly that. My hair came out beautifully and still maintained its length. I even talked to her about the messed up color and highlights in my hair and she said she would fix it the next time. I work around the corner from Highlight salon. I went in on a whim, needing to have my hair done but only needing a blow out (something I'd never had before). Lule, quickly made my hair look gorgeous, as though it was freshly cut and healthy. I'm now addicted to indulging in her blow-outs, every time she does my hair people ask me where I get it done and I get loads of complements. I've tried blow-outs in other places but none compare to hers. As an aside she's a gem of a personality, very easy to talk to and honest. She's straight up if my hair needs help with color or cut.
