I went by myself on a Friday during lunch. They were very crowded however the waitress was nice enough and offered to seat me at the sushi bar even though I told her I would be ordering a bento box. You could tell the waitresses are very experienced and efficient. Considering how busy they were I was shocked how quickly my food arrived. They serve more tempura than other Japanese restaurants that I have dined at and the beef teriyaki was cooked very nicely. The interior is very clean and decorated authentic. This was recommended for sushi here in Yelp when I was in this neighborhood. We came on a weekend afternoon and there were tables available and were greeted right away when we went in. My pet peeve with sushi is when it's loosely done so I wasn't pleased with that. However the fish tasted fresh and price points are reasonable so I would recommend if you're in the area and just want to grab sushi. My boys who are sushi lovers were ok with it but it wasn't memorable so if we are ever back in the area we will probably try a different place. It's straightforward and clean place - other diners are ordering the bentos so that might be the way to go. read more

This place was great with sushi that wasn't overly priced. I'll admit, I don't expect service to be great when a big group of teenagers comes in so I'll give the benefit of the doubt that we weren't going to be mature. However, when we were tended to, service was as expected for a cool little sushi place. I would definitely come here again as it wasn't some overly loud, obnoxious sushi place like others in the valley are (if you're from the 818) but this definitely makes a great stop after the beach heading back to LA! This is the spot if I'm feeling for a bite of sushi but also maybe something else. I love that they have so many options for non-sushi items and also at a reasonable price. I got a beef teriyaki bowl here and it was hot fresh and enough for two meals! Plus my usual salmon skin hand roll which was delicious. The food overall is pretty good for the area and price. I've been coming to this spot for years and I've never had a bad meal. Service is polite and quick. They are pretty good about checking in a couple times during meals which I appreciate. Minato Sushi is a great new spot to have on our sushi rotation list. The sushi here is extremely fresh, the portions are awesome, and the service friendly. My friend and I were craving sushi but wanted to try a new spot local to us. We found Minato on good ol Yelp and agreed that we would make the 15 minute drive out from our hiking spot for an early lunch. Minato is in a busy shopping center and we honestly drove right past it. It's unassuming and the signage doesn't pop out but also in fairness we just didn't look quick enough which is why we passed it. The inside is much cuter then the exterior. We walked in and were pleasantly surprised as it was spacious, clean, and welcoming. Service here is 5/5. Waitress and severs were very friendly. We were checked up on often and the food all came out impressively quick. It was nice that they had two sushi chefs behind the counter cranking out orders as by 12-ish it was starting to get busy. Everyone was very nice and I appreciated the hustle as they cleared plates and moved quickly. The sushi was a solid 4/5. Some dishes better then others, but all in all a really good meal. Plus the sushi was super fresh! Bonus points for the freshness and the stellar serving size of the nigiri. They have a really huge raw fish and sushi roll menu here that your bound to find something for everyone. I had the tuna delight appetizer/roll which was a 5/5. Love a good rice less roll. The tuna was tender and wrapped around the crabmeat with some spicy tuna it was the perfect bite. The "okay" bites were my spicy scallop roll and miso soup. The scallops (again) were super fresh. I just felt the flavor as so so. And the miso soup, while pretty traditional, wasn't as flavorful as some other spots. I liked it definitely just didn't love both. My friend said her nigiri and cucumber salad were delicious and overall we were very happy with our meals and the quality. Pricing is a bit above average. You do have to weigh that the nigiri slices were generous and the quality is there, but definitely not a deal. I had one fancy roll, one regular cut roll, and a miso soup. That ran me about $30 after tax. A little steep if you like ordering multiple fancy rolls. Also no lunch bento box specials on the weekend. Kind of a bummer as those are well priced and this was the first sushi spot that I noticed the lunch specials weren't all week long. My regular spots either have them all week long or add $2 more for weekends but at least they still honor the specials. Something I would suggest they think about here. Minato was a great sushi find in Thousand Oaks and if your in the area i would totally recommend giving this spot a try as it's cute inside, service was awesome, and sushi was overall pretty good. read more

Tried for the first time after seeing this restaurant for many years - AND OMG! Amazing. Fish melts in your mouth. Service was amazing. We arrived at Minato on Moorpark/Janss Road at approximately 7:30 pm last Saturday. We placed orders for drinks and sushi. Food was actually very good. However, Soon after our door arrived, the staff started announcing "last call" for food and drinks. Even though there was still a good 35 minutes to closing time. Some folks came in a few minutes later and they were turned away as "last call" and "closing soon". A few more minutes and the staff started flipping all chains upside down on all tables around us and spraying said tables and chairs with disinfectant. We just looked at each other in disbelieve. Needless to say, WE WILL NEVER GO BACK and caution others. Eat well. read more

I found this gem about 6-7 years ago. I've never reviewed it since it's one of those places that I frequent but have never thought to review. Service can be a little funky depending on time and how busy they are, expected. The food is always so good. Haven't had a bad experience. My kids love it as well, my 10 year old started his love with sushi here at the age of 4, my 12 year loves the bento dinners, and my 5 year old and I come when the boys are busy. These photos are not my usual attempt at food porn, but nonetheless, here he go. I'll try to get photos next time....I'm usually too hungry and excited to take photos when the food comes out. Decently good value for this no-nonsense location. The lunch specials/bento is excellently selective to offer you a variety to fill up with. Under $20 will fulfill quite a large appetite. Their spicy tuna roll is elegantly done and probably designed for their patrons. Nigiri is fresh, but may seem a bit thin compared to other places. The tempera is also nicely done.
