Stopped by while in Moorpark. Parking was easy as it's in a big plaza. It was a sunday afternoon, and there was plenty of seating. While the portions were big, the food was okay but it did the job. I got the salmon plate drizzled with teriyaki with the cabbage side and salad side and rice so pretty much comes with 3 sides and a veggie skewer. A lot of food for a small fast food joint. Everything was good but the salmon was pretty thin. We also got one red dragon roll and my bf got the cali and steak plate which comes with a California roll. The sushi is not really worth it here. The red dragon roll had an odd aftertaste that I usually don't taste in a dragon roll and it also tastes dry. The California roll was extremely bland and dry. My bf also got the miso soup which was also bland. We also ordered potstickers which were okay. Service was nice and welcoming when we told them it was our first time there. The guy there went over the menu in detail. Like I said it did the job. Not sure if I'd come back. read more

To begin when we entered we weren't acknowledged, basically ignored as the owner just watched us and didn't say hello. We tried the chicken teriyaki plate. The chicken was thin and dry almost like eating wood and there was cold thick teriyaki sauce poured on top of it. Even my 12-year-old daughter knows this isn't how you serve food. It was lunch time on a Saturday afternoon and there was only one other patron in the whole restaurant which should have been a warning sign for us! Never again! read more

Resto is kinda dirty and it was empty. They give you big servings but the rolls are tasteless. The rice portion is not seasoned. It just tasted overcooked white rice with some other stuff. Went here for lunch yesterday and ordered the dynamite roll and Miso soup and I had the worst food poisoning I've ever had in my life!!!!!! Will never be back. The only reason I even chose this place to eat at is because the dumpling place next to it was closed on Tuesday. read more

This place never disappoints! My family and I have dined and ordered for delivery at this restaurant and their food is always excellent! Service is not too bad. Their sushi always taste so fresh. We always order their steak plates as well and love their pasta salad and greens salad. Everything we have tried so far has been very good. No complaints here. We had originally planned to try the dumpling spot next door, but since Kiku had just opened at 11 and the other place wouldn't open until 11:30, we decided to go with Kiku. I used to enjoy coming here for the generous portions and reasonable prices, and we wanted to support a local business. Unfortunately, this will likely be our last visit. One of the first things we noticed was that there were no prices listed on the menu, which was a bit off-putting. We ordered a chicken breast plate ($17.49) and a steak with California roll plate ($19), and both the chicken and steak were extremely dry--so much so that they were barely edible. It was surprising, especially considering they had just opened. It honestly made us wonder if the food had been cooked earlier and reheated. The California roll was also disappointing--it came out warm, falling apart, and had a mushy texture. The miso soup was the only highlight of the meal. On top of that, the portions seem noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the prices feel very high for the quality and quantity you get. There are definitely better-value options elsewhere. To make matters worse, the service wasn't great. The owner didn't seem very welcoming and didn't even thank us. For a place that appears to be struggling, better customer service could make a big difference. Overall, a very disappointing experience compared to what we remembered. read more

We've loved this place - even before it was Kiku. But lately, they're "saving money" by reducing the product. I had a tuna roll today that did indeed have tuna (I think) in it. But it was as THIN as a piece of Wrigley's gum. Lots of cucumber, and I could not taste tuna no matter how much I focused toward it. We are regulars, and I felt embarrassed to approach the owner. I'll bet many of us are this way, don't want to cause a scene, and will just stop going. I would be surprised (and delighted) to hear back on this platform. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED I ordered a spicy yellowtail and tuna roll. I drove back to Simi Valley to enjoy my meal only to be met with this.... The pictures speak for themselves. Tuna roll had hardly any fish & it was all cucumber. The spicy yellowtail roll was also a joke. Again, practically no fish and is that Frank's red hot drizzled on the top?? Come on kiku do better! I'd take it back and get a refund but I live in Simi and it's not worth my time/gas to drive back. Don't think I'll be coming here anymore if this is how they're going to do business.... read more

I have to say this was my 1st time and unfortunately will be my last. I'm not sure why this place is still around. I wasted $34 on the worst sushi I have ever had. I ordered a Dragon roll and a soft shell crab roll. I ate a few bites and threw the rest of it away. This was absolutely disgusting!!!! read more

We used to come here weekly when we were doing stuff in Moorpark. We aren't there as often, so we come in less frequently. Usually I order a plate of some sort. My favorite is tempura with California roll. 4 years ago that combo was about $10. Now it's about $18. Holy smokes! They're closed on Monday, so today's hankering for sushi had to be fulfilled elsewhere. We enjoyed a different restaurant, having eaten "bento" lunches with similar items as Kiku's plate, for $37 for the two of us, including drinks, tax, and tip. That's a lot less than Kiku, closer to home, and with more authentic flavors. Oh. And sushi that didn't fall apart; a frustrating feature of Kiku's sushi. We are going to need to rethink our list of regular favorites. read more

I've been going here since it was called San Sai. This being said, the prices are a bit on the pricey side, but that's very true for everywhere at the moment. You order at the counter, you go to your table and on the wall at every table is a sign telling you to bus your own table and take your trash and plates to the "black bin" conveniently placed all the way at the front door. Kiku's quality has gone down a lot over the years. Not only are portions smaller and prices way higher, but the taste is different. The chicken used to have a grill taste. Prices have gone up, and the portions have shrunk since the last time I went there. I picked up the order and did not get any soy sauce for my rice. I had no idea this was something that I would have ordered. I'm not sure if they charge for it. I ate this on my break. This is one of my favorite sushi places in the area, for the reasons that they are incredibly affordable, I get good value for my money, and they fulfill orders quickly. The staff is friendly and always willing to accommodate my requests (nothing crazy, I promise). I've ordered from here a handful of times and their food has always been consistently good. This place makes me nostalgic because my best friend worked here in high school when it was San sai and they still serve basically the same food but just changed their name. It's nothing amazing, but they do decent Americanized versions of Asian fusiony food. They have a pretty decent selection to appease everyone and it's clean and the food comes out quick. Ordered their makizushi, which was horrible. You're supposed to actually put ingredients other than rice and gobo + cucumbers in these things, but they literally give you sliver of a fish and hope you'll be happy with the sauce. It also falls apart as soon as you pick it up, which means it was poorly made. The rice is too hard and there is no flavor to it. This is typical Ventura County faux Japanese food. read more

The food is delicious here. I typically get the steak plate with potstickers and California rolls. The meat is flavorful, not gamey at all, and the teriyaki sauce is delicious. The potstickers taste good, I'm overall a big fan of this place and enjoy eating here regularly. My only criticism would have to be that I don't find the miso soup to be very good. I just don't find that it has that savory, umami taste that you would typically expect from miso soup. The staff here are fantastic, always a pleasure do interact with. The fish seemed to be terrible quality, not fresh, and the rice in the sushi rolls was not sticky so the sushi rolls kept falling apart as soon as you would try to pick them up.
