We discovered Hikari Sushi during the pandemic, and we have continued to visit. It's one of our favorite lunch spots. The food is fantastic. I usually order a bento box special and an order of shrimp shumai. My daughter orders all types of sushi and has loved all of it. The sushi will come out quickly. The bento box and other items from the kitchen will take a little longer. It is well worth the wait. Sometimes, the service is slow, but the restaurant is always busy, and the servers are running around keeping up the best they can. Be patient. They will get to you. The servers are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is small, and as I said, it does get busy at lunch and dinner. Sometimes, the wait can be long. It is worth it. The wait can also be long if you order to-go food during the busy times. There is plenty of parking. read more

Excellent meal. Had almost all the white fish sushi, and a few rolls. Timely. Great atmosphere. Great staff, and well worth the prices, which honestly weren't high. Haven't been here in a few years but can't wait to come back. Only criticism, they had a basic basketball game on rather than the National Championship Game.....need a few more TVs and I bet they'll get even more traffic on game days! read more

This review is for their tipping calculations while you use your credit card. I'm aware they have 50% off on some of their rolls that's priced at $23-$30, but their 15% / 18% / 20% tip is based on the regular price before the discount. For example four rolls at $25 each equates to $100, after discount the bill is only $50, but their machines shows 15% is $15. Should only be $7.50 for tip at 15%. It's a scammy way to get more dollars out of people that's not aware. Just want people to be aware. read more

My family and I have been loyal customers for almost a decade now, so it genuinely breaks my heart to write this review. My mom recently visited (10/28/24) for happy hour and when she asked for to-go boxes for her leftovers, the server denied her. When she asked to speak to the manager for an explanation, they said that people have been taking advantage of the restaurant's discounted happy hour prices so the rule of no taking leftovers for their once "all-you-can-eat" deal also applies to their happy hour. However, *nowhere* on that menu was that rule mentioned (as attached below) and I personally have never heard of a restaurant not allow their customers to take home happy hour leftovers. I NEVER write negative reviews and all my previous reviews prove that, but I needed to share this. My family and I will be taking our business elsewhere from here on out. read more

This is my go to sushi spot because the sushi is always fresh and the service is great. We always get great service from Juni and the rest of the staff there are great too. I ordered the BCSR roll which is a baked roll and it was good. I also ordered the crispy rice roll and I honestly wouldn't recommend. It was really greasy and very fried. The service was okay. This small, clean, surprisingly quiet restaurant really surprised me in a very good way. First, there were several vegetarian options. I just want to share that Hakari Sushi is my favorite spot for my weekly sushi fix. Their Bento Box selections are amazing and do not disappoint which keeps me coming back again and again. My two favorite selections are Salmon which is always a nice thick cut and never dry, a 8-piece California roll. It also comes with hot miso soup, fresh green salad with ginger dressing, egg roll and a slice of orange to finish the meal. I've always loved this place as their sushi is really good and their prices are the main selling point for this place! The servers are also always really friendly and the place is always clean and it usually has seating available right away (even when it's busy, the wait isn't too bad). The only thing that's stopping me from giving this place a full 5 stars is that I typically always have this problem where they send out their food too spaced out between people within your party. There have been multiple times where my food will come out first and so much time has passed that I get close to or even completely finish my food before someone else in my party even receives their food :/ I wish they would time their cooking better so everyone's food comes out roughly around the same time read more

This is our regular spot for sushi when we just want solid sushi, but aren't going for incredible sushi. It's always solid here, but not going to blow away a sushi connoisseur. It's always busy. Sushi chefs are nice. Service is good for the most part except the lady who condescendingly says "No Discount" when you order anything "premium." Which is also very condescending because they way over price rolls, pretending like you're getting a 50% discount when it's truly just a standard price. They think people are stupid. Another negative is that you can't order takeout and pay cash unless you're ordering there and pay up front. You have to pay with a card if pre ordering for pick up. read more

This is our usual go to but the service was super slow. We waited for like 10 minutes before we were asked about what we would like to drink. Otherwise the food is good sushi. Not the best but great for a weeknight dinner. Someone was having a birthday and the dance music and singing was fun, everyone sang along to it. read more

Not everyone has to have all you can eat. Just let the waiter or waitress know as you order. Also if you decide not to have all you can eat then you cannot go picking off the other people's orders.

We dinned on 18 courses, each one a surprise more delicious than the last. You just sit back and the chef chooses each bite for you. We've never had octopus so impossibly tender it melted in our mouths. Ice cold sake, warm fish soup, literally I could go on and on about this meal. Choosing favorites feels almost wrong because every course was exceptional, but if forced, the Santa Barbara uni on wagyu, Japanese scallop, Sea bream, and Toro with uni were some of the most impressive and unforgettable bites I've ever had. Never did I imagine that the best sushi I've ever experienced in Ventura County would be found in Simi Valley, but here we are. What an absolute treasure this city holds. Used to come here all the time when it had previous owners, but after the new ownership my view of the restaurant has dropped immensely. The service was far under mediocre. Throughout our entire meal, they never offered to fill up our waters or take our plates unless we went to find one of them and ask them, and there are plenty of servers so I'm not sure what the deal with that was. They also brought us two extra rolls, which we did not want to eat, so we had to stuff ourselves to avoid paying the extra charge. One of the rolls we ordered was very disgusting. Not well made at all and had a very bitter or sour taste (not how it was pictured on their menu or mentioned how it would taste). When we had this roll left over to give to them saying it didn't taste or look good, they told us that's how it is and made us pay the extra charge since we didn't want to eat it. Overall, the food was maybe 1.5 stars and the service was 1 star. I will not be going back here ever again, sadly. I really liked how it used to be. There are plenty of better all you can eat sushi bars in Simi Valley. I definitely do not recommend. read more

My recent experience at Hikari left much to be desired. The noticeable downsizing of their rolls was accompanied by a shift in pricing that felt unjustified. To make matters worse, they eliminated several rolls that were previously discounted, leaving customers with fewer appealing options. What struck me as particularly irksome was the introduction of a 10% "take-out fee" (equating to $9.19) on top of the regular higher prices. It felt like an unnecessary addition that only served to inflate the final cost. Additionally, the decision to charge an extra $0.50 for each additional sauce felt like nickel-and-diming. As a long-time patron, these changes have left a sour taste, and regrettably, I won't be returning. In a city with numerous sushi options, I believe there are far better choices available that prioritize both quality and reasonable pricing. It's disappointing to see a once-favorite spot prioritize profits over customer satisfaction. read more

My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for a few years now, and we've finally decided to write a review. The quality of the food and service has been consistently great every time we visit. Vivian is a fantastic team member who always makes us feel welcome. It's nice to see the same sushi chefs here year after year, which shows that they enjoy working here and that the food quality remains high. That really speaks to the place! Today, we tried the Superman Burrito and the Three Amigos, and both were delicious. My wife can't get enough of the Salmon Lover Roll every time we come here. After visiting a few sushi spots in Simi and hating, I thought I'd give this place a try (is all you can eat) sushi place in Simi. The salmon sushi melts in your mouth. The albacore sushi was so fresh. The customer service is the best in Ventura County hands down and have not been disappointed thus far.... Definitely the best AYCE I have been to, I highly recommend this place! Happy Hours Monday-Thursday 2-4:30 for only $19.99 Whatever you don't see on their check off menu just ask the waiter or waitress or write it on the bottom. Wow!!! Hikari is a fantastic place to go for fine sushi. Under new management, First of all, Sushi, very very Fresh like alive. Main chef told me they are getting new fish for serving everyday. Staffs are also very friendly with customers. This place is remarkably very clean. When you go to restroom, it really impressed me. I liked air freshener smell with grape or peach flavor(i m not sure) and there is also a gargling machine to freshen up your mouth. I've never seen this before in other places. Beer lovers should go there to try "buy one get one $.01". I really enjoyed them. read more

The sushi is ridiculously good, I mean it's SPOT on. It's challenging to find a sushi joint with high quality sushi around here but this place just blows it out of the park. My only criticism of this place is that they are definitely becoming less "kid friendly" giving that they do not allow children (even older looking ones) to sit at the sushi bar, nor do they allow strollers inside their restaurant....so be forewarned lol! First, I walked in and sat down. I ordered Garlic edamame. When it came out it was nothing like I have had before, bad. Then I ordered Salmon and Albacore Sushi. The Salmon was good, but the Albacore was low grade, not very good. To top it off the staff was not observant of consumers needing napkins. They were not very organized and had a problems figuring out our bill. They were nice, but they need to get better preparers and train the staff. Won't be back. read more

I tried a new rolls tonight, was not a huge fan of it but did not take away from my experience as I have always had with Hikari sushi! The roll I wasn't into was the seared shrimp roll. As I was walking towards the front, I see a sign stating that they have a happy hour starting at 1 o'clock and it was 1259 so I was very excited to see what this look like especially for it being my first time here. This meant that I get to try a lot of new things and a lot more things. There is about 10 to 15 tables inside with different amounts of seating and since it was just my boyfriend and I and the lady gave us the choice to sit wherever then we chose a table with two seats but, had us move to the next one because she said that the two seat ones were for single people, especially because it was lunchtime. She refused to let us sit at the two person table ‍. We got several menus and a pencil with an ordering paper. She took our drink order and we started to explore the vast menu and it all looked great! (I love when they have pictures on the menu apart from descriptions) After she brought us waters, I asked her if the special menu was considered the happy hour menu and she said it's not happy hour yet and I said yes it is 1 o'clock and she looked at my boyfriends clock on his phone and apologized and brought the happy hour menu. I included the receipt so you can see that 4/5 rolls were happy hour pricing. The sushi chefs were 2 Hispanic men and the reason why I mention this was because I feel like most of my rolls had this "chili powder" that resembled Tajin on my rolls and that's what they called "spicy" half my rolls were supposed to be spicy tuna but the tuna itself was not spicy they just had this Tajin-like powder on top and to me it wasn't spicy at all and I also felt like it made those 2/3 rolls taste bland. My bf loves deep fried rolls so he opted to try the magic mtn and he loved it and I think I enjoyed the spider roll the most. Even the spicy tuna on the crispy rice was just regular tuna with no spice. We still thought it tasted good but we will maybe give it another try with different rolls next time. They have a punch card if you spend $50+ after I think 10 you get a free speciality roll. The chefs gave us a parting remark and we thanked them upon leaving for lunch. Our server was a little more cold but kudos to her for handling the whole restaurant by herself in an efficient manner as our food came out quick and we got water refills and she checked in on us while serving 5/6 other tables all by herself.
