Came again to the restaurant and this time was different. The whole restaurant is renovated and it became bigger and better. The decorations are with the lighting became really good. I had ordered spice chicken tikka masala and chicken wings. Chicken tikka masala was delicious and when i asked to be spicy, it was really spicy. Delicious and tasty, but my stomach burnt for a whole day. Chicken wings was good too with the hot sauce on the side. I would come again after the new update. read more

Food is phenomenal + the chef/owner Mamoona is so gracious and kind. My favorite things are the samosa chaat appetizer and the chicken tikka. Badanjan (eggplant) curry is also phenomenal, and I'm a big fan of their Sunday buffet, which offers a bit of everything. I even dream about the salad bar, I swear. I am normally not a fan of buffets, but they are constantly cleaning the area and refreshing the dishes, so everything is hot and fresh. They also provide gloves to everyone taking food, so you're not spreading germs with the handles and serving utensils. They really make an effort to keep everyone safe. read more

As for the staff members, they are the most welcoming and smiling staff members restaurant in Phoenix location. Really! It is as if you are invited to a five star restaurant. Their prices are convenient compared to other Indian/Pakistani restaurants. My only critique of this wonderful restaurant is it closes early at 8:30 pm. Was very skeptical of this place when I first pulled up and went inside. Definitely not the fanciest inside. Was pleasantly surprised to see a remodeled and well kept restroom. Also got a peek at the kitchen at the kitchen on my way back to the table and it looked very clean. Was a good sign to me as well. Reviews were very good for this place. Service is decent even on a busy Friday night. They take your order on a tablet, so your order goes straight back. We got family platter. The green chicken and red chicken was really good as well as the beef kebab. The family platter comes with rice and cucumber salad. read more

It has been a few years since we ordered from here. I believe the ownership has changed as they no longer have the market and butcher. The quality of food here is good and the restaurant is clean. We ordered a to-go dinner and was assured by the staff that our order was complete. Upon arriving at home we found the cauliflower entree missing as well as a cheese naan. When ordering through Grub Hub, there is an area to add descriptions. I had asked for the tzatziki be on the side on the gyro and that the cheese burger be plain. Would not use the Grub Hub option for this restaurant in the future and will call in the order. There are other options in the area and will explore other options in the future. read more

I wanted to try this halal restaurant the day after I tried khyber halal so I could have a comparison. I have to say the samosas here are better than khyber for sure! They are fried crispy and super fluffy. The potato and herb mixture inside is very delicious. I had the bolanee as well, which is a bread stuffed with potatoes and herbs and it was delicious. It reminded me of a quesadilla except the bread was homemade and way better than a tortilla. Khyber has this dish on the menu but they ask that you call 1 day in advance to order it because they don't have the ingredients so I was not able to try their dish. The sauces at both places were so good, but I really liked the spice level here better. The dishes were a bit greasy so don't order these on a diet! Next time I will try the mantoo and compare it to kh! read more

We got the chicken biryani and the chicken tikka masala. The packaging was nicely done and Saran wrapped so that it will not spill. Both dishes were ordered as a medium spice (told them 6/10) and I think that affected the taste. The biryani was still very good but I imagine it would taste even better if we increase the spice level. Based off of the scale, 6/10 or medium spice is not spicy at all. The biryani was very light and still flavorful which is a good sign to me. Raita was more watery than how I've had it in the past or make it myself and could definitely just be a personal preference. The chicken tikka masala was not our favorite and somewhat of lacking in traditional spices that we are used to, which again could be corrected with leveling up in spice. Overall, the biryani was something I'd reorder and why I'd give it a 4/5 instead of 3/5 I would've given based off of the chicken tikka masala alone. read more

My wife and I went and redeemed our one free samosa with a good old fashioned Yelp check-in, which was really good, and we shared some chicken tikka masala- shizz was de-lish! It was plenty of food for the both of us, and it came with rice. We got some garlic naan on the side which completed a full revolution of an Indian foodgasm. The people there were super nice, and Muhammad is the man and will take good care of you. The only thing they were missing was some background music. I was hesitant to even talk much because the whole restaurant would have been a part of my convo, but music would easily change that. Finally a restaurant that does not serve you the same curry base with different names.The Handi Chicken and Chicken tikka masala were spot on, boneless pieces of chicken in gravies that were near perfection.The gravy reminds one of authentic Pakistani cuisine.The garlic Naan was fresh and full of Flavor(All gravies are served with plain Naan). The restaurant is very basic and ambiance is just about adequate.It's definitely not a place where one goes for a date night.I would recommend getting the food to-go. Also i was very impressed that the food was first boxed in containers and then sealed with poly sheets to avoid any spillage(which is very common when you box curries). This place follows all of the rules of how to find exceptional ethnic food. You'll find this sneaky little spot in an unassuming building with very little signage. Inside, you'll find the floorplan modestly but tastefully decorated and packed with Benghali, Pakistani and Afghani Phonecians. The buffet is amazing. The vegetarian dishes have more robust flavors than I typically encounter, even within East Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines. The saag paneer is a total winner. I'm typically turned off by saag and palak paneer dishes because they're too soupy and creamy, but here it's completely different. The same goes for the chana masala. If you're a meat eater, you won't be disappointed. They have chicken tikka as well as a great selection of goat, chicken and beef simmered in characteristic sauces. The price for the dinner buffet is also exceptionally reasonable. While it seems only regular-reasonable at first blush, your drink and naan are included. The flavors are fresh and always tasty not to mention the variety. The rice is good even a couple days in the fridge it doesn't dry out. I had the Afghani Badanjan eggplant dish, and it was a surprisingly bland dish. It was quite a small portion, especially for the price. You have to order rice separately, it does not come with it. I found this place a year ago. I love the mantoo. I've liked all the dishes I've tried except the heavier spiced ones. But I'm a wimp and the spice was too strong for me. Next time, I'm going to see if they will do half spice. The meals are very filling and heat up well the next day. I've dined in and had to-go. Been two times for the luncheon buffet, everything was truly delicious and found a perfect variety to choose from. All meats were highlights from the curried goat, chicken tiki masala and grilled chicken, all tender and cooked to perfection. Cauliflower stood out too as do all vegetables and yellow rice in particular. Less than $15 per person, excellent value. Buffet includes salad bar, dessert pudding with some fresh fruit, tea, sodas, naan and a special fry bread that you just need to ask for. We'll definitely be back and truly look forward. We are in Phoenix for a short visit and Yelped a restaurant close to our Airbnb. Found Hilal Grill, and ordered via the Yelp app. We were surprised at the long wait for the food...placed the order just before 6, picked it up just before 7. The length of time seemed a bit much given the small amount of veggie dishes we ordered (perhaps they were short-staffed due to COVID and the holidays). As for the food, it was good not exceptional. We ordered the veggie biryani (4 stars, would reorder), the Chana masala (3 stars, watery sauce), the tikka paneer (3.5 stars, tasty, but quite oily...and light on the paneer), naan (2.5 stars, a bit dry and hard...perhaps they were ready before the rest of the meal), and veggie samosas (3 stars, okay but small). Altogether, a fair meal, but small portions and slow service for takeout. read more

Lost one star due to being substantially overpriced for the Sunday buffet and few veggie options, for $20 you get some goat, chicken and beef options with three different bean varieties and styles and a small salad bar, the fruit juices were obviously some tang or cheap powder in water. Second star lost because of the fact they use styrofoam and paper plates/cups the amount of waste is unnecessary and disgusting. All of that going into landfills. I plan to visit this place at least once every 2 months (this is little far from my place). If you are a non vegetarian foodie this place is perfect. I have been to the lunch buffet so many times and only once I found that all items (especially veg dishes) were not up to the mark. Otherwise found each item tasty and cooked to perfection. Got a vegetarian in group? No worries - although options are little less in buffet, they are equally tasty. Also they keep rotating some of their menu items. Kebabs are good as well. Tip: Make sure you order the deep fried breads (Poori) on buffet. And don't miss the Phirni (dessert). Note: This review is based on buffet only. read more
