This is for the Iftar review. Glad we drove 45 minutes for it. It was every bit worth it! They had a big spread for the buffet. While I cannot recall every single item, they had fruit salads, fruits, biryani, chicken and goat curries, pizza (better pizza than actual pizza restaurants), chowmein, naan, luchi and pakoras. The buffet also included fountain drinks, juices and their awesome chai. They also had a dessert with ice cream and jello. Not sure what it's called but it should not be missed. Come here with an open mind and a big appetite. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this place for Iftar. I just wish I had known about it earlier. I was looking forward to trying this place particularly since I saw some indian dishes on the menu. Its menu has mediterranean and indian food options. My mouth was watering as the servers passed by with chicken & beef kabobs, basmati rice, etc. The platters looked awesome! Physically it is a super large room with a cafeteria style set up. Lots of ethnic families eating there so I figured the food must be good. I saw chicken biryani on the menu and a beef curry. I told them I wanted both super spicy. In the interim ,we ordered beef samosas. The samosas arrived piping hot and were super delicious--puff pastry with lightly spiced beef. I would get those again. The Chicken biryani came with a lettuce salad. The biryani was DELICIOUS with a great combination of spices. Unfortunately, the beef curry had no flavor and was super oily to the point that once I took one bite of the beef I could not eat it. I brought it to the server's attention and he was gracious enough to take it off the bill. Great customer service. I would go back for the biryani and the samosas. read more

Beyond amazing food. Everything was full of flavor and excellent. The afghan rice was amazing and good enough to eat by itself. The masala was very flavorful and as excellent spices. Everything was cooked to perfection and came out fairly quick. Service was a little lacking but they only had one server working and see was managing the best she could. The first bite of the Chicken Tikka Masala gave me pause. The second gave me a reason to wipe my forehead with the back of my hand as I contemplated why I keep doing this to myself. What an extremely pleasant surprise Chicken Sheesh Kabob Masala Fry w/ Afghani Rice and Naan This food was so flavorful and delicious. I will admit it is difficult to stray away from the styles of cooking that I love and this kind dish is definitely very different. I spent quite a bit of time looking at the pictures because the food looked really good. After a little bit, a friend of mine and myself just agree to go with it with him getting the tikka chicken and me with the above plate. So glad we went through with this because the food was absolutely amazing. The chicken is tender and it soaked up all the amazing flavor of the masala. Pairing it with the naan and the rice just added so much more. My friend gave me a chicken drum and it had a vibrant red color to it and was so tender and tasty. I am very happy to try something new and this place provided a lot of comfort with that meal. Can't wait to introduce my wife to this place. read more

The food was okay, and I'd give it 4/5. The reason for 3 stars is I ordered through postmates, an item was sold out and the postmates delivery person called and told me. I asked for a refund. Can I say the chicken Biriyani from this place is absolutely delicious? The long grain rice is flavorful and the chicken is perfectly cooked. The fact that the food is packaged in cling wrap on top of the container, especially during the COVID times helps me from being too paranoid. I tried the palak paneer, another to go dish from now on at this place. They have great variety in their menu and I ought to try and switch up my order a little bit. While I come here quite often, I wouldn't recommend it to someone else. I usually come for the Chicken Karahi and the Veggie Samosas. My biggest issue with Hilal Grill is the amount of rice you get as a side dish is extremely tiny, somewhat laughable. The chicken karahi comes with a very decent amount of "soup" if I can call it that. The amount of rice you get with that is almost like a splash, then you have all this soup you have nothing to eat with. The food is actually very good. I have other issues with the restaurant as well but it's convenient, quick, and close to me. If you want to try it out I suggest going on a Sunday to check out the buffet, lots of options. read more

When you're hungering for some good Indian food, try this little place. The only people in here eating are Indian or Pakistani, always a good sign. The dining room is bare bones, so it didn't get a 5 star rating. Not that I'm a snob but I do like a little atmosphere. It's got a good menu and the food is absolutely delicious. It's been a while since I wrote my original review. Since that time I have been to this eating establishment a number of times. Most recently twice in the last two weeks I have partaken of their Sunday buffet. After this I felt obligated to update my review. This place keeps getting better. Their Sunday buffet is a Grand Slam. If you are somebody who grew up with quality Pakistani traditional food, you are going to appreciate the fare that they offer. The beef nihari, the beef trotters, the goat korma, the freshly baked naans, the halwa and puri, the kababs and I could go on and on. This place makes me proud to be of Pakistan origin. Love coming to Hilal grill, lunch or dinner they serve some of the tastiest Indian, Pakistan and Afghan food in Phoenix. The real gem here is the buffet on Friday's for lunch or all day on Sunday. Not sure what you want, try a bite of everything and come back for your faves. Curries, naans, rice, tilapia, chicken, lamb, goat, beef, sweets and salads; I've tried about half the menu and have not been disappointed yet. My husband and I are from California and we wanted to have Pakistani food that wasn't too far from the airport. After reading such great reviews on Hilal Grill we decided to give it a shot. The reviews did not disappoint! The food was amazing and equally important the staff was great. Our hospitable servers were Muhammed Tahir and I didn't catch the name of the sweet bubbly hijabi girl. They both made our experience at Hilal grill even more enjoyable. The restaurant is clean and roomy. We will definitely visit again if we are in the area... My husband who is super picky really enjoyed the Beef Nihari which reminded him of back home, and I loved the chicken Seikh kabob. The Firni was out of this world delicious. The best authentic pakistani/afghan cuisine ... beef nihari, palak chicken, Halwa poori and Phirnee (sweet) were awesome. Naan is only the downside. But that doesn't stop me from coming again. I'll say up front that the review is only for delivery, so I can't comment if the food is any better for dine in. We were looking for a nice Indian place and were impressed with the overall reviews - but unfortunately, the food we got wasn't consistent with expectations. Started with vegetable samosas - these were actually excellent. Lightly fried, tasty filling, nice sauce to go with it. The Chicken Handi Curry was also reasonable - perhaps a bit blander than I might have liked overall. The Aghani Gulpi Cauliflower curry sounded interesting on the menu - but has an extremely bitter aftertaste. I'm not sure if it's just some of the spices, but it was not a pleasant sensation. The Beef Sheesh Kabab Masala Fry Curry was even more of a disappointment. It came covered with a thick layer of oil - it was practically sausages in a mild tomato sauce but drenched in oil. As to deserts, the Ras Malai - cheese patties in milk sauce - were OK. Very small, and didn't really see much of the pistachio. The Gajar Ka Halwa - a grated carrot desert - was also fine. In addition, the restaurant inflates their prices on Doordash (over and above the various fees/charges) on top of their more expensive starting price - particularly egregious when you take into consideration none of the curry dishes come with rice. read more

Another one of those places that surprise in just the right way! Tahoora Grill has been on my Yelp bucket list for sometime now, the rub is that it is too far from home. My husband who is a conformed Yelpist, found Hilal Grill one night when I was actually on my way home from work in Tempe, took me minutes to get there, easy to find, parking a bit tight but no biggie. When I arrived II was delighted to find out that I would be able to check of another Phoenix area establishment off my list, formerly know as Tahoora Grill. The atmosphere is super casual, not a lot to look at yet not ugly either. The servers seemed to be in the weeds a lot even though the place was only half full, they did have a lot of to-go orders and only two guys serving/taking orders. The food was beyond amazing!!! Growing up 1st generation American Indian, I do consider myself a semi-expert on food from the Northern region of India. Since we eat Indian food on a regular basis and have hit almost every Indian dining spot in the valley, I have been wanting to try something a bit different. Hilal hit the spot! We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala which had more of a tomato base sauce than we are used to, very nice change. The chicken itself was so flavorful, perfectly cooked unlike some Tikka Masala's that are just cubes of unseasoned chicken thrown into a sauce, those tend to dry out easily and taste bland. We also ordered a Persian eggplant dish that blew us away! As other Yelper's mention, the bread is definitely some good stuff to soak up all the yumminess on your plate. Additionally, when we asked about a vegetable dish to complement our chicken, the server called on the chef to help us decide. Such a nice personal touch and beyond helpful. When we were leaving the other half of this ownership thanked us and took the time to ask us about our experience, his invite to return was exceedingly warm and friendly, like a family member inviting you into their home for dinner.
