SUCH a great experience!!! We had the King Pin burger- cooked to perfection!! The Bloody Mary was impressive and the cheese curds were AMAZING!!!! The restaurant, itself, was clean as well as the bathrooms. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful. Overall it was a great experience- we won't hesitate to go back!!! read more

Food was ok this time. Typically was always good however they were having a staffing shortage. My grilled chicken was not freshly grilled on my salad and had been warmed in a microwave and was hard. They were accommodating and adjusted. Normally the food is very good. read more

Food might be okay but service is horrible! One bartender with a packed bar for a football game that they advertise specials for. Owner sits and drinks. Had free pizza for halftime which was honestly pretty good. Served it on the area next to the soup so patrons who didn't know thought soup was included. Owner came up to their table in front of others and called them out for eating the soup that wasn't free. I suggested a sign would be nice and he rolled his eyes at me and walked away to smoke. Went in for lunch and ordered a chicken tender basket and a burger. Took well over 30 minutes for our food and people at the bar who ordered after us were getting their food. Waitress never checked on us and it wasn't even busy. Cook looked like he just rolled out of bed and hadn't even showered. Will not be going back and wouldn't recommend unless you have a solid hour to kill and want horrible service. read more

I came here from hortonville to experience a fun atmosphere and only experienced rude bar owners that didn't except people from out of town and made me feel like I wasn't wanted... this isn't hate or negativity based, just dislike towards people that aren't from New London and that should say enough... if desperate for a drink ask for Aleesa and she will make up for the terrible owners that don't care. Had the Cobb salad which was good. Very large portion. The service was horrible. Practically nonexistent. To make matters worse, the waitress/bartender did nothing but gripe and complain for the 45 minutes I was there. She spent a lot of time talking to a couple that she knew, was a very negative person. Completely ignored me other than take my food order. A gentleman behind the bar finally got me something to drink. Doubt I would ever come back. read more

I really wish there was a good.place to eat in New London, and I was hoping Hilby's would be that when it opened. What a disaster this place is! We have been there for the buffet and it's a joke. There were 3 things on the buffet including salad and it was all old looking. Nothing tasted good at all. Everything tasted like it came out of a freezer. I felt sick after I left there. There are teenagers in the kitchen and the owner is always drunk. Sad. Very sad. read more

Every time I've gone into this restaurant it's been terrible. The first time we got a pitcher of flat beer with no carbonation. The owner refused to give us a new pitcher of different beer. Another time a few years later, we were playing the machines and the machine ate a $5 bill. The owner refused to refund the money and he did nothing to fix the jammed machine. An employee made a mistake that day and the owner asked him if he was f--- stupid in front of customers. He has a really bad reputation around New London because of he's simply terrible at running a business. The food there (especially the buffet) is awful. This place will continue to get bad reviews and if we're really lucky it will shut down. read more

Came in to check it out....meeting friends....NO ONE here has a CLUE!!!! Took 15 mins to get a waitress! Food took 45 mins for 3 burgers & a wrap...( REALLY?? Only 2 other tables here!!) Then our friends had a bar tab which they paid with the waitress then we gave her our card to pay for the food...SHE CHARGED ME FOR THE BAR TAB AGAIN!!!!! New Yelp-er - I joined to write a review because I think the owner sunk a lot of money into the place and doesn't want to fail. I really wanted to like a business that chose to invest in NL, but it was a comedy of errors (yet very not funny). We sat ourselves, and once a waitress showed up, she asked us for drinks. We saw Sprecher on tap, asked to have one, and waitress was highly confused - "um, not sure if we have that or what that is". So, then we got a Miller Lite. She came back, took our order after telling us soups of the day were French Onion and chili. One of us got soup, one got salad. I got my salad, and got a packet of Paul Newman dressing - not a huge deal, but you begin to wonder if they were ripped off from McDonald's. Then after that, waitress came back and said "oh, I'm sorry, turns out we don't have French Onion, we only have chicken soup and chili." Fast forward 45 minutes, and entrees (1 burger, 1 sandwich, 1 fried haddock) still hasn't shown up, and no follow up on the drinks. Then we get the hamburger & sandwich - fries were cold - and was told the only thing hanging up the haddock was the vegetables. Then she offered to refresh the drinks (ah, no). Another 10-15 minutes later my haddock came up. Haddock was tasty, but veggies were obviously out of a Birds' Eye bag with a touch of Mrs. Dash. Fine, but not 12.95 fine. To the owner: get a waitstaff who cares/knows your products and deliver food - stuff I can't cook at home food - within 20 minutes. Good food, good service, fast service - none of the 3 exist at Hilby's today. Good luck; I hope this can and will be improved. read more

My husband and I went out for a date night to celebrate some fantastic news and enjoy march madness basketball. We chose hilbys because it was a place we have never gone. The food was ok. Large portions. Delivered very quickly. Drinks were strong. Service was absolutely horrible. Our waitress had a hate my life hate my job attitude and she appeared to be the only person working. The other (were they servers?) just sort of stood around talking to each other despite the fact that it was rather busy. It was our first and most likely last visit to this establishment. First impressions stick, and as we walked in the door not one worker gave us eye contact or acknowledged that we were there. Nothing says seat yourself or wait to be seated and when I asked "do we seat ourselves?" The server rudely said if you can find a spot! Without looking at me and she just walked away!! During our meal she never came back to check on us, we had to flag her down when we needed something and at one point someone came up and tried putting a reserved sign on our table and we were told someone else wanted it. It's a sports bar and we were there because my husband wanted to watch the game. There were other tables open! She did not ask if we were done just dumped the bill on us and never once asked us if we needed anything else. My husband finally gave up and started going up to the bar for his own beers. We left feeling very disappointed and strongly suggest management retrain your staff on proper restaurant customer service. The other reviews + mine should tell you something. read more

When I first moved into town 6 months ago this seemed like a cool spot to hangout. I stopped in to meet some people from work and was new to town. The bar had 3 people sitting down and the eating area was empty. I showed up early and the bartender (blonde) was not a very good people person. I asked for a menu and she didn't come back to me for at least 15 minutes. Another female was in the kitchen yelling at the staff and was also working the eating area. She was our server on the floor and only brought us our food and didn't come back until we had to ask for a check. Never asked how we liked our food or if we wanted another drink. Place was not busy at all and she sat at the bar the whole time we walked. Could be a very cool to hangout but food and staff need work. Seems to be the same story from everyone on this site. read more

Food and service is terrible. Whoever the manager is was very rude to my friends and I during a meeting for drinks and dinner after work. We had the menus thrown on our table and she went and sat by the bar. We had to walk our order up and walk over to order/grab our drinks. When the food came out it tasted terrible and seemed like cheap walmart food. Seems like it could be a gold mine but customer service and food needs help. read more
