My husband grabbed takeout from here as a treat and I was excited because I hadn't been to Hill District yet. He got a double smash burger, no veggies, sauce on the side and that came with fries. My sandwich, the Billy bird, also came with fries. The Billy Bird sandwich has turkey, tacos, American cheese, and their burger sauce on sourdough bread. While this was our first time here, and we didn't get any drinks since we got takeout, we had been here when it was still North Shore Inn. They were owned by North Pier Brewing Company across the street, so this restaurant has changed a bit when it comes to the menu but the ownership has stayed the same and the beers they offer are made by their own brand. Their cocktail menu has updated as well and you can take home their beer in 4pk can form if you'd like. Food was fantastic and I will definitely be looking forward to dining in one day to get the full experience. The poutine, bbq pork rinds, and soft pretzel all sound fantastic on the appetizer menu so all of those are going to be reasons to keep going back. I'll also be interested in trying the pickled gimlet and the Great Lakes transfusion (both cocktails). We shall be back. read more

I came with a coworker for dinner around 6 PM on a Wednesday. The inside had a few full tables and outdoors was one table - we took one of the tables outdoors. Service was very friendly but a bit slow and sporadic. We got a carafe of water but it took a bit to get glasses, had a few beers come out and then was missing my second for quite a while until we went to check the bar. It sounds like they were short on people and there were a number of larger parties that came in. Our server was super friendly though. We split some smoked chicken wings in the hot buffalo sauce; these weren't too hot (for my taste) and you could definitely taste the smoke flavor. My coworker got a brisket sandwich and said it was pretty good. I got mac and cheese with bacon - it was tasty, though would have been a bit better if it were hotter. I tried a little Carolina Gold BBQ sauce and it was also good. Overall, I'd be happy to come back. read more

Disappointing. They bill themselves as a BBQ restaurant, but I don't think there's any barbecuing going on here. My brisket sandwich was not fresh or carved on site, and had no taste except for BBQ sauce from a squeeze bottle. I'm thinking some kind of microwaved food service meat - cut into cubes instead of slices. Coleslaw was tasteless. Worst of all, there is heavy music blasting for the enjoyment of the employees. I was incredibly disappointed with my time spent here. My boyfriend and I were starving in the pouring rain just wanting to find somewhere good. We came across Hill District through the reviews online so we decided to make the stop. We get in, the waitress and server both saw us and the waitress told us to sit anywhere with clean glasses. We weren't handed menus, or water, not even really seated. People came in after us, were walked to their table, had menus, and water brought to them immediately, they even got to order their food and we still were never taken care of. We ultimately decided to leave because we spent enough time just waiting while other people were being taken care of. We passed both servers on the way out who said nothing and just watched us leave. Super sad because we believe it was age discrimination, we weren't even the youngest people there but definitely not a 20's friendly place. Would not come here again, definitely not worth the drive no matter where you are coming from. Unfortunately also had a funny smell, and the glasses on the tables weren't even all clean. read more

Okay so I'm hoping we caught them on a bad day - but we came here today and our food took well over an hour to come out. In fairness, they did tell us it would be about 30 minutes since they were behind, but it was MUCH longer than that. The place wasn't packed or anything - maybe 5 tables on the inside that had people. So it seemed odd. Anyway - the beer was cold and the servers were friendly. My husband had wings and I had the brisket sandwich. The food was good. No complaints there (wish we got a bit more fries!). Just wish the experience had been a little smoother timing-wise. read more

I stopped in for a smash burger, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and a beer. The food was mostly good. The mac had a good, creamy texture but did not taste much like cheese. I would not get it again. The beer was good, service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. read more

Hill District has finally opened in the former location of North Shore Inn, and we were lucky enough to try it on opening night. We were happy to see the golf mural remains, but the rest of the decor was elevated and the menu is DELIGHTFUL. I will say I was so happy to learn they had a vegetarian menu, but wouldn't have known unless I asked. Would be very helpful to note that in fine print on the standard menu! Stephanie was a wonderful server and everything came out in a reasonable time. The burger "slap sauce" impressed the whole table. There were a few kinks in the food that I'll wait to review until they are open for a bit longer. Overall we enjoyed our night with friends and will return! read more

Server was very kinda but our food took almost an hour to come out and they were not very busy. When it did come out , the majority of our party was not pleased, they barely touched the plate and ended up leaving a large portion. The chicken wings were hard and not like the flavor that was described. The Mac and cheese with chicken was overall mid, not warm (despite taking so long) and cheese flavor was off. I did enjoy the chicken myself but I can agree it wasn't a typical flavor. I didn't like the Mac. read more

The service was great super friendly! I got the poutine as my main dish and honestly didn't even finish it I was so full. My friends got burgers and rated them a 7 I rate my food an 8 almost 9 because I loved the smokiness. The ambience was pretty cute! I definitely would come here again. read more

Hill District's menu pivot was so smart. I enjoyed their brisket sandwich and would highly recommend it. (Choice of sauces on the table.) We ordered takeout and were NOT impressed. My husband and I shared the short rib fries and the smoked wings. The fries were mediocre at best, with the meat having very little flavor and the fries were soggy. No crispy at all. The wings had ok flavor but were very dry even with the whiskey bbq. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and sat outside. We ordered the smash burger, pretzel with beer cheese and the pulled pork. All the food was delicious! I don't drink so I ordered the Orgeat Lemonade soda which was refreshing and super tasty. The server was super friendly and very attentive. Would definitely return. read more
