This place was so cute. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing here after a long day of driving up the coast. The waitress was so nice and attentive. We ordered the Sopressata pizza and it was amazing a great change to the normal pepperoni, not to mention we love wood-fired pizza. We also got the small caesar salad and it was one of the best caesar salads I've had. My husband ordered a cup of their bean and bacon soup and he could tell that the beans were not canned that they cook them there. Overall this is a great place and would definitely recommend. They also have pie if you have a sweet tooth but we were so full. Oh and the waitress didn't just bring us a box to wrap up our pizza to take home she did it for us. I love when restaurants do this. If you are in Port Townsend and want a nice relaxing place to grab a great bite of food with awesome service this is it. read more

This is the best pie in the state of Washington. Wandered in here unintentionally, and ordered a some beer to start off with. After some discussion with my friends, we decided to try the pie here. It was spectacular. We ordered two slices to share - one apple, and one berry. I can't properly describe how fast we ate them. They were gone before we had time to process. Our server thought it was amusing. Yep, that good. Seriously good pie. Did I say they have good pie here? Next time, and there will be a next time, I'll order some of this heavenly pie again. When I saw that the salad dressing had dijon in it I was worried that it would have a slight mustard taste but it did not, instead it was simply delicious. The chicken leek soup was the perfect combination of flavors...I should have ordered a bowl but then I would not have been able to have pie. The very best pie crust I have ever had. My husband and I shared a piece of marionberry pie, he ordered it al a mode. In my opinion, ice cream is not necessary, the pie is excellent without the distraction of the ice cream. Solid place to eat! Came here for dinner after a long day of work. The pizza I got was PIPING HOT. It was good, but maybe not so hot that I burn the roof of my mouth next time...? We just love this more true Italian type of crust, and the toppings are great. (In Seattle we love Tutta Bella if that helps. Neopolitan pizza in wood fired ovens.) I had blueberry pie a la mode, and YUM is all I can say. Not to mention they are very generous with their pie. Add cafe Vita, and I'm a happy camper. Will defo return. It's probably a little skewed to say 5 stars because we rolled in starving. But the Caesar salad along probably rated five stars. It was fantastic. I will say I was dying for a fountain Diet Coke and they didn't have that but I survived. ;) I tried a cream soda instead. They do have a good selection of beers. I was frankly so dehydrated and tired that wasn't a good idea. But back to the food. We ordered the large salad and then we each got a pizza. The waitress kind of side eyed us and asked if we were sure. Lol I said we weren't sharing! Truth is that the artichoke and pesto I picked wasn't coming near my husband's mouth. Ha. He got a meat option that was also awesome. But I have no regrets about sticking to my guns and getting my own. It was great. The crust is on the thinner side, which I like. Outstanding food, service and ambiance. What more do you want? Intrigued by earlier reviews, arrived with friends expecting a good lunch and spotty service. In fact, one review described the hostess they had encountered as a sort of "Seating Nazi" (No seat for you!). We met Michelle (the hostess in question) and were delighted to meet a very gracious and warm person. We ordered clam chowder (delicious) and two pizzas, one Italian sausage and one Margherita. Plenty of food for four. The sourdough bread accompanying the chowder was incredible. I would have bought a loaf to take home if they sold it there. Although I like olives a lot, including Kalamata, the amount on the Italian Sausage pizza overwhelmed the sausage flavor a bit. This a case where less would be more, in my opinion. The waitperson who served our table was friendly, efficient and timely. As if we needed it, we shared a piece of Marionberry pie, hot out of the oven, a la mode. With no exaggeration the best pie I have ever had. The vanilla ice cream was, on its own, remarkably delicious. Hillbottom Pie is a must try while in Port Townsend. Hard to pick out favorite as each was as delicious as the other....... Also enjoyed a slice of the best strawberry rhubarb pie in the north west..,. The crust makes this pie stand out. Food was good, but nothing special, with a location on a side street slightly hard to spot. Only issue was one night 4 of us came in after a movie, and they wouldn't let us move a table together so we could all eat together on the theory that it was too hard for a waitress to serve us. The place wasn't crowded at all, and had a number of empty tables, just not a place open to seat four - there was no way that a waitress couldn't have walked around a large table to serve us. Edits: Quirky operation, although the food is good, so my opinion of the food is higher than my original review. On one visit we arrived for dinner at 5:10 and were told they can't start pizza orders [a large part of the menu] until 5:30 because that is when the oven gets hot enough. On another, again an early dinner arrival, one of the two pies on the specials board [and the one that several of us were there for] wasn't available that evening. Overall opinion, it helps if you are a local, patient with the system, or ready to go elsewhere if there is an issue and aren't committed to this restaurant. After four visits, the quirkiness seems systemic. When we have eaten there, the food we ordered has been good and consistent. read more

If you have a large party, 8 or more, don't waste your time! From the time we walked in, no one acknowledg ed us. When she finally did, she didn't even bother to put tables together for our party. She was actually going to place us on opposite sides of the restaurant! All she had to do was join the two tables. The staff has always been friendly and conversational. I have always felt welcome coming here. Food is undeniably great. Love the pizza (really my type of crust). Loved this place! It was swamped when we walked in so the service was a tad lacking at first, but quickly got better. We tried a little bit of each thing they offer; soup, salad, pizza, and dessert. We had the clam chowder and I was super impressed, it was creamy, flavorful, and FULL of clams. The bread they serve with it was divine - had to stop myself from eating it all. The Caesar came quickly and I loved it. It's a classic caeser, really garlicky with crunchy romaine. We ordered the pesto pizza and Christ that was good! The fresh basil pesto combined with gooey mozz and goat cheese, artichoke hearts and roasted red was perfect. I also thought the crust was going to be dense, but it was almost fluffy it's so airy. Finally the tiramisu- just the best! That's it. A huge portion smothered in fresh whipped cream and shaved chocolate. Even with ALL that whipped cream, you could still taste the delicious espresso soaked lady fingers. Can't wait to go back next time we visit Port Townsend. read more

SCRATCH (as in food is from scratch - except the local bread). This place is terrific. Wonderful decor, great use of a very old building space. But that is nothing compared to the food. We started with a Large Caesar (repeat LARGE). Superb dressing (tastes homemade - great balance of anchovy paste, garlic, cheese, etc.); properly tossed - all leaves coated with dressing and freshly grated Parmesan, and Romaine pieces that weren't too small and not too big. Croutons: perfect. Next: Clam Chowder (New England, of course). Homemade with generous portions of clams & potatoes and flavor balance. Delicious. Next up: Pizza. Italian sausage, peppers (green and yellow) and replaced the olives with roasted garlic. Simply outstanding. The edge of crust bubbles a bit and can get crispy (the mark of a good dough). The rudest people I have come across in a service business. I ordered pie and asked for a glass of water for my dog. they told me they had no take out cups even though they were sitting right in front of me. I asked them if I could buy one of the cups and they begrudgingly said yes. I then asked if they could put some water in the cup and they said no and were very adamant that they were not going to give me any water for my dog. They were so rude they were almost hostile. A couple of other business owners locally told me that they were very well known for being extremely rude and unpleasant. DO NOT recommend supporting this business. read more

Everywhere you go in the world you will find places serving pizza. Some pizzas are better than others. And different places have different recipes, and interpretations, of pizza, and of customer service as well. Hillbottom pie has a novel approach to pizza - it's Burnt Pizza. Tonight we were presented with a roasted vegetable pizza that was badly burnt. The crust was burned - not browned, burnt black; and the most of vegetables were too. And their idea of customer service - When we brought this to the owners attention, he refused acknowledge there was a problem, let alone replace it. He told us that he probably should have told us when we ordered the pizza that they burn the edges in order to crisp the crust. (The edge was completely burned, like carbonized, and the underside or the crust wasn't crisped, it was burned too). It's obvious by our accents we're not local, but who on earth hasn't eaten pizza, and who would think it's supposed to be burned? What kind of restaurant serves burned food and tells you it's the way it is supposed to cooked? Too bad Yelp doesn't allow a rating of zero. read more

We are local peninsula residents who often come to Port Townsend. We wanted to try a good place for lunch and we found that place! Hillbottom has a great Ceasar and we enjoyed a Italian sausage pizza. I am giving a 5 star rating for the 'extras' we weren't expecting: perfect latte, and my boyfriend's beer was served in an icy mug. Great service, great local vibe, great food, great atmosphere. Tim Roth is a truly talented chef. If you've had the good fortune to have had his glorious pastries when he & Mariko had the Tyler street Coffee House you know what I mean. The service can be slow here but you just have to know this & expect not to be rushed. They are authentic & It's worth it.
