The crust! The crust on the pie and and pizzas were amazing. I got a peach pie which is my favorite (add fresh whipped cream!) and we also got a pecan. So delicious and generous slices. We shared the roasted veggie pizza and it was so good because it didn't have the "salad on top of the pizza" feeling you often get with veggie pizzas. So good and definitely recommend. Visiting from out of town, we were met by 2 rude workers who kicked out one of us because of Covid restrictions. Ok that's reasonable. They made us look at their menu out on the street. After several attempts to order, running in and out of the restaurant, most items were unavailable. We ordered to go and asked where tables were. The lady barked at us to look on the beach . We did get a couple of pizzas there against my better judgement. The pizzas were good enough though overpriced.. Not anything special. Certainly not worth enduring the rudeness experienced there. This restaurant came highly recommended and I was looking forward to trying it. We had a group of six in all and asked if they could accommodate us. The staff refused to move a two top next to a four top so we asked if we could just squeeze in at the four top with borrowed chairs. They refused again. Over half the tables were empty. I've never encountered a restaurant that prefers to lose business and sacrifice customer service in this way. It would be one thing if the waitress apologized and explained a company policy but she was extremely rude and brought the subject up again after we had been sat at separate tables. If you value kindness and customer service, don't support this business. read more

Simply a doozy of a pizza, or a "dooza" if you will. We were staying at Port Hadlock but after quickly realizing there are no satisfactory places to eat there, we jumped in the car and made the short drive to Port Townsend. Our first objective was to get tanked up so we threw down half a dozen beers each at a great little bar which also offered free pool (I won an extremely one side affair 8 frames to 2). It was then time to eat before we drove home as I was dangerously over the limit. That's when we found this little gem tucked away at the end of a side street. This was towards the end of our 2nd day in the area so we'd learnt to lower our expectations when it came to food but this place left us both with our jaws on the floor. Hillbottom has some of the best food in Port Townsend! They have the best pizza and with Covid they now sell pizza to go. Hands down they have the best Caesar Salad anywhere. And if you like soups they also have the best soups with an ever changing menu. My personal favorite is Mulligatawny. I usually take home 3 or 4 orders and have even frozen them because I may not see it on the menu again for weeks. Everything they make is from scratch. I was chatting to another restaurant owner and we were talking about where to go for really good food -- she said no one has better pizza or a better Caesar salad than Hillbottom. You still have to order food to go -- just call in your order and go pick it up. If you find a better Caesar salad I want to know where! read more

The soup, bread, pie, and pizza were all more than acceptable. I would say that the soup was the highlight of the meal. What was the low light???? The middle aged man server. Seemed like the last thing he wanted to do was serve our table...not sure if it's because we had kids or not but he was basically a mute and did the minimum to get us our orders....BUT what got me the most is when this DUDE completely ignored my son (2 years old) who was saying 'hello, please, thank you' to him during the course of the meal...literally refusing to acknowledge him practicing his behavior. We had lunch here today. The reviews sounded good. But our experience was mediocre at best. The pizza came out of the oven burnt on the edges. When we said something we got attitude. "That is how we make our pizza's". Sure - it is a style to cook thin pizza quickly, and the edges get pretty dark, but in a couple spots it looked like charcoal! The pizza itself was pretty good. We had pie as well - peach. Nice sized piece but the peaches were a bit hard and flavorless. Overall - I would not go again. read more

Visited recently and will never go back. We specifically went there because we wanted pie. Even upon entering, the middle aged server seemed annoyed to help us. We got a table and ordered soup first. Despite being early afternoon, they were out of one of their soup specials. The borderline rudeness from the server continued. We finished our soup and wanted to order pie, but couldn't get the server's attention and she clearly didn't seem to be concerned with checking on us. Add to that, the fact that one of us had ordered a drink that was never delivered. After 15 mins, we finally got her over to our table and decided to give up on pie so we just asked for the check. She brought the check, which included the unserved drink. We asked for the drink to be taken off since we didn't get it, to which we got an almost accusatory, "You didn't get the [drink]?!" She was clearly beyond annoyed that she had to adjust our bill. Between the drink, pie, and tip, they easily lost out on about $25. Awkward and rude. That best describes our first and only experience at Hillbottom Pie. First the good. The restaurant is cozy and close to a beach. The food was passable, didn't make us sick, and was served pretty quickly. Now the not-so-good. We had a party of 10 to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. The restaurant's policy is to not move tables for anyone so we were at 4 different tables. Not that big of deal and we made it work. Little did I know it was just the beginning of the pretentiousness that was yet to come. We ordered some pizzas and salads. My daughter brought some ranch dressing in a couple of those disposable dipping cups so she use the ranch on her pizza. Once the waitress spotted this, she came over and told my daughters that if she continued to use ranch on her pizza she would be asked to leave. To my daughter's credit, she showed restraint, said okay, and she and her friends started packing up their food to go eat outside. I didn't mind the message as much as I cared on how rudely the waitress delivered it to my daughter. When I approached the waitress to politely and privately to discuss, she gave me attitude and told me that it was against the state law to bring in outside food to an establishment (news to me). The waitress also said that the owners and chef were from Seattle and that they adamant about customers not altering the prepared food. She said that the owners and chef had created the menu to provide a specific taste and that's absolutely how they expected their customers to eat it. She said that's why the restaurant doesn't allow substitutions of any kind. She also said that's why the restaurant doesn't have any sauces on site. Having experienced enough 'tone' for the day from our unapologetic waitress, I paid our tab and we left to continue our family celebration elsewhere as there are many other places to get better food without the pretentious and arrogant attitude. read more

Our party of 5 each had bowls of soup, served with tasty grilled, buttered bread. 3 got clam chowder, cow a Vu soup, and a split pea.Shared a pie piece, how can you miss with pie and soup on an early Fall day? Only weird thing: chowder was served with a heart shaped design of too much pepper (soup plate bowl). 2 of us don't like pepper. Waitress said "next time order it without pepper." OK, fine, but please warn first time customers of this strange application of pepper! Paprika I could handle, but pepper kind of kills the taste buds for other flavors (my 2 cents). Low key and cheerful atmosphere with lots of light, delicious options and pizza pie and pie pie, the soups were a bonus! Really good quality ingredients and the staff was incredibly accommodating when my mom was really really anxious about making the ferry. They whipped together large takeout containers for our pizzas and apologized for the wait even though it was our fault for coming so close to the ferry departure reservation. (Unsurprisingly, we made it with time to spare...) Great staff and great food, close to a lot of other delicious things like ice cream. Thank you pie folks for your generosity! read more

Hillbottom used to be Tyler Street Coffee. I had been here before for coffee and pie and liked it a lot. This time, we came with my baby in a stroller. The woman who sat us gave us a very chilly reception- we almost left. After I suggested having us sit at a table where he could be in the stroller against the wall, she "let us" sit there without collapsing the stroller. My son didn't make a peep and slept most of the time. We weren't in anyone's way. The cafe is very nice and the coffee and pie is excellent. But, after our visit today, I'm not sure I would go back. 5 stars for quality but the way they welcome families with children could certainly be improved. Don't recommend this place if you have children but it's a good solo or date spot. read more

The middle aged dude was put off by everything -why even bother being in the business and the female brunette server was a hair better than he, seemed distracted. The puttanesca pie was inedible - it was beyond salty. If it weren't for my friend who begged me not to return the pie out of embarrassment, I would've. We placed an order and the pizza tasted like rubber with a cheese and tomato sauce coating. It was very disappointing since the place came highly recommended. The service was also lacking when we placed our take-out order on February 16th, 2021. Hopefully, it was just an off day for the business. This place was so cute. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing here after a long day of driving up the coast. The waitress was so nice and attentive. We ordered the Sopressata pizza and it was amazing a great change to the normal pepperoni, not to mention we love wood-fired pizza. We also got the small caesar salad and it was one of the best caesar salads I've had. My husband ordered a cup of their bean and bacon soup and he could tell that the beans were not canned that they cook them there. Overall this is a great place and would definitely recommend. They also have pie if you have a sweet tooth but we were so full. Oh and the waitress didn't just bring us a box to wrap up our pizza to take home she did it for us. I love when restaurants do this. We went here based on the very positive reviews. We were disappointed in our experience. We ordered two pizzas and soup. The both pizzas came to us burnt at the edges. I mean not a little but a lot. The outer two inches were totally blackened. We tried one but crust just too burnt. We told the waitress and she ordered another. Only that was less brunt but edible. The pizza, when not burnt, is just ok. I wouldn't place it above a Pagliacci or Tutta Bella. I just could not understand why you would give a customer a clearly burnt food. We ordered the clam chowder. It was good but not way better than other others I've had. I couldn't try the pie as they were completely out. The service was ok, ambiance is fine, prices are decent. After looking at the ratings for The Hillbottom Pie, I was excited to try the food. It was my first time here, as I am visiting from out of town. Right when our party walks in, the hostess was very rude. She told us that she couldn't accommodate 7 people at one table that we would have to split up. We were all okay with that. As we were discussing what we wanted to do, the hostess rudely told us to step out side and discuss. I thought that was uncalled for. We should have left after that, but we decided to stay and try it out. We ordered the pasta fagioli soup, tomato soup, margarita pizza and the roasted vegetable pizza. Everything was excellent!
