Wow, what RUDE people. We walked in and were the only people in the restaurant. I stated it was our first time here and how did the pizzas work, were they individual? An older lady with brown hair said, "They are 12", then turned around and walked away. I was a bit taken back, but thought maybe she didn't mean to be rude. We started to order, and she then interrupts us and says, "Its over an hour wait, I have take-out orders before you". I was pleasantly surprised to see Hillbottom was one of the only restaurants in downtown PT open after 5 pm on a Tuesday. Especially because we had tried to order from here the last time we were up this way and were told they were out of dough. I walked right up and ordered a small cheese pizza, tempted to also get some of the amazing-sounding soup from a lot of available options. Only 15 minutes later my pizza was ready. Right across the street were some public seats and tables, so you can eat overlooking the water. The pizza was beautiful looking and tasted quite good. The crust had a nice chew and crunch and I think there was a rosemary olive oil brushed on top. If you like pizza crust, you need to eat here. The ratio of the pizza was just a bit off for my personal tastes - there was just a bit too much crust for my liking and not enough of the tasty sauce. Ate lunch at Hillbottom yesterday and was super impressed. I had a cup of clam chowder - delicious and HOT. Lukewarm soup is way too common. Then I had a piece of their strawberry rhubarb pie - what a delight. There were actual chunks of strawberries and rhubarb instead of the , much more common, red sauce that is the usual filling. The crust was delicious. It was pretty crowded but the staff was calm, efficient and friendly. It's a small place and you order at the counter. I was looking for casual and this fit the bill. Have been visiting Hillbottom Pie for 4 months now, usually twice a month, if not more. Love their pizza!! One of the best places to have pizza and pie on the Olympic Peninsula! From reading other reviews, I can totally understand the whole service situation not being too great. When I arrived, I was seated immediately which was great, but then I waited 20 minutes before anyone actually came to take my order. Without writing a huge story, basically the staff where completely distracted and didn't seem to care about the customers waiting to want to order. When I did get to order, I went for their Margherita pizza (with added mushrooms). The whole 4 stars of this review goes for the pizza alone, it was fantastic. It was served fresh from the oven, plenty of ingredients, and full of flavor. One of the servers did become a bit more chatty too towards the end of my meal which was nice! Unfortunately they had run out of their strawberry/rhubarb pie, but I would definitely return for it! Summary: service not too great, pizza is amazing and good value for money. Just bring a book or something to distract you from the service if you need... but seriously, go for the pizza! read more

What can I say about Hillbottom Pie that hasn't already been said? It's an excellent choice for a slow-paced dinner but also a great option to stop in for an afternoon espresso with a slice of homemade pie. There are some that complaints about the service, but you shouldn't come in here expecting to be in-and-out, you should budget at least an hour here and plan to relax and enjoy your time. If you need a quick pizza, get a slice to go across the street. Their menu is somewhat modest but I believe this is a positive as I never feel overwhelmed by too many choices, as they focus on what they do well. All of their food is focused on made-from-scratch recipes. The caesar salad in particular is the best I've ever had. Their selection of homemade pies is impressive, with their pecan pie being my favorite. They have four regional microbrews on tap that are served in a frosted mug, also the wine selection is very good. Last but not least, the pizzas are excellent but it's in addition to the other choices (salads, soups, drinks, deserts) that keep us coming back to Hillbottom. I sampled the darker scotch ale by the local brewery and it was good too! I went and bought a bottle of that later. Anyways, the staff was small but attentive. I ordered a margarita pizza and added pepperoni and mushroom. It wasn't really a margarita pizza, but it was still good. They loaded too much pepperoni on it for my taste and I didn't see any clumps of buffalo mozzarella on my pizza at all. It was still very tasty. Small place and our first time visiting. Food was wonderful and we will go back as we live locally. I had the Italian Sausage pizza with kalamata olives and tried the Margarita pizza too. Both were excellent! I also had the clam chowder which was the best I ever tasted. My wife got the house salad which was gigantic and delicious. We were there with my son, his wife and two grandkids so we moved tables together to accommodate ourselves. No one said a word. But as has been pointed out, the hostess (co-owner?) warmed up to us when she saw we were with our family and making do with what was available in terms of seating. If you go here for the food, you may have to overlook some service abruptness. The food was great and it came out of the kitchen in a reasonable time. Ambiance in the little restaurant was...odd. We stumbled upon Hillbottom pie looking for something to warm up with. I'm so entirely happy we stopped here. We traveled from Arizona to Washington and in between there and even after we have never had such amazing soup. I ordered the cauliflower soup and my boyfriend order the clam chowder.
