Hit and miss. Clam Chowder was like really good. Not a big chowder guy but walked away wanting more. Ordered a Margherita pizza and wasn't so pleased. Probably just my taste buds though. The whole pieces of roasted garlic hidden under the cheese was a little much for me. Wife ate it also and thought it was really good. All in all I would give this place 4/5 but the service.... Wish I had a name to pin point the rudeness we felt since one young lady with a nose ring was very nice but another dark haired lady needs a lesson in customer service. We had a party of 6 and asked to be seated. While the place had 80% of the tables open the max per table was 4. We were informed that we would have to be split up. Not claiming to be very smart here but an easy fix is just join two tables. When I asked to join tables we were told they don't do that here. Looking around the place it would have been very easy but it just seamed we would inconvenience her to do that. Another couple with a child that came in after us asked to move a chair from their four top table. An even easier fix then ours received a snide comment. We were very impressed with Hillbottom Pie, and we will be back! Had the Mulligatawny Soup, which was to die for. A lot of care went into the making of this soup. My dining companion had a Caesar Salad, and said she would order it again. It certainly looked delicious, but I forgot to try a bite! All of the pizzas looked tasty, but we settled on the Spinach Potato. The crusty was just the right amount of char and chewy, and the toppings were delightful. Give this place a try! read more

The staff was super accommodating and let us sit outside with our dog. The food was fantastic and the people working there were very friendly. I took a small weekend trip to Port Townsend and he stayed at this lovely little hotel where I parked in the back lot. Upon parking, I could smell oregano, garlic, bread baking. It was the best smell that I've come across a long time. As I walked into the hotel, I noticed that I walked by this little tiny pizza shop, and I said to myself before I leave this weekend I must try their pizza. I can tell you. I'm so grateful I did. On Saturday night I ordered a Sopressata to go and waited a little bit longer than expected, but the service was very kind and I kid you not that pizza is the best that I have had in a very long time. The pizza is great but, like others have commented the service is unwelcoming and not very hospitable. On my third visit I had barely entered the restaurant and the hostess/server yelled at me "we're out of pizza." I asked if that was why they were not answering their phone when I had tried calling for 30 minutes before driving to the restaurant and the response I got was "I don't answer the phone." No "thank you for coming in" "I'm sorry we're out of pizza" "how else can we help you...." Oh my! This is the best pizza, hands down, hubby and I have ever had! It is worth the wait, usually about 30 mins+. The phone actually has a busy signal when you call-I feel like I'm trying to call a radio station to win something. We usually get the Italian sausage and the flavors burst in your mouth. This is our local go-to place (along with Lanzas and Tin Brick). Best caesar salad in town, it's GIANT (mmm...magic cheese roasted crutons). As for soup, I've tried the tomato, mushroom and clam chowder (comes with bread). The mushroom soup was probably the best soup I've ever had. The tomato soup, second best (looks almost like caprece). I didn't care much for the clam chowder but still, it wasn't bad for chowder. We LOVE the margherita pizza (without olive oil). Tried the pesto pizza but, Imo it needed the tomato sauce. I've never had burnt crust here, has always been perfect. I can say that I've never experienced pie until I've tried the pie here (marionberry, cherry, strawberry -rhubarb). Fresh made daily, it's worth a try. We come here almost weekly (or get to-go) and have never been disappointed. All the food is homemade with love, the waitresses and owners are lovely people. I would love to give this place more stars, I actually started off thinking I'd give 2 or 3 than got more upset as I recalled everything our server did. The pizza is AMAZING. They really know what they're doing there. Also fair prices on beer and wine, which helps. However, I was visiting with my grandmother who I hadn't seen in 8 months. My young kids were in the car for over an hour and came in to this smaller place cranky & restless. Usually I do restaurants with kids after exercise. I know that people expect kids under 5 to be fully logical and flushed out humans, but sometimes they're hungry. Our waitress was very slow, which made matters worse, SOOOO incredibly rude (NOT A CHILD FRIENDLY PLACE - due to size & staff). She did and said MANY things that were wildly negative, passive aggressive and unkind. By the way, my kids chilled out and did great for 80% of it. She gave them glass cups, said they had nothing else for kids, no straws either (how is this place kid friendly?) she also asked if I could move the high chair, saying it was in the way, when me and my grandma stood up and assessed that it was 150% not in the way. We asked for bread for my daughter to have while she waited for pizza, and it never came. She said she didn't know if we wanted it , but she totally knew we did. She also scoffed (majorly) when I asked if they give kids dough to play with (a lot of pizza places do, even super classy ones) and she acted like WTF , I must be crazy. This place was good! My sister and I were in town for the afternoon and stopped to eat. She got their clam chowder and it was good! I got the Caesar salad and it was so good! I wanted more soup and salad after we were finished. Now the pizza... they were good. I got the cheese pizza, I can't remember what they named it. Highly recommend the peach pie. Fresh peaches, perfect crust. Their coffee is great. It's local. My bride had strawberry rhubarb and it was remarkably good too. She also had 'a la mode' and raved about the ice cream. The wait staff are very professional and engaging; we liked them. The building they're in has panache and the owners have done a very nice job decorating it, keeping the character that only old brick buildings have. We didn't have the pizza, but saw several and made a promise to each other that we would be back for one. We've been married 33+ years...we keep our promises to each other . 1/27/2017: made it back. The best artisan oven pizza I can remember having. The crust is hand-made art, and the toppings are just balanced. You only get to add toppings to existing menu items because they have each have a well-balanced recipe. It was four of us, and we ordered 3 pizzas between us. Each of us had our favorite, and were jealous of the other's favorites at the same time. I'm a pepperoni kind of guy, and I fell in love with their veggie pizza... a first. Don't hesitate to order the Pesto, either. The last time I had a well-crafted pizza this flavorful was in Padua, Italy. Just go, and eat! read more

Actually, I would like to give no stars. I was refused service because I had my service dog with me. I tried to explain to the waiter that I had trained 10 months with this dog, that the ADA allowed me to be in the restaurant with her, and offered to send him information on ADA requirements and the responsibilities that I had to live up to with my service dog. Best Caesar salad, anywhere, ever. Soups are amazing! Chicken Muligatawny and Cockaleekie are my two favorites, but you can't go wrong, and they rotate the soups regularly. Carrot soup and cream of mushroom are both amazing when they have it. Soups are served with grilled chunky sourdough bread, and a bowl is a meal right there. Their pies are the only pies I like as well as my own - the crusts are flaky and delicious, and the pie is piled high, not too sweet, just right, and totally yummy. I don't usually eat the pizza but I taste it when my friends order it, and it is great too! Prices are so reasonable, even for a glass of wine - generous portions, great value, quality ingredients and excellent preparation, and a conscientious, hard/working staff. Excellent 12" pizzas that have 6 slices per. Feeds 3 people or 1 American. The have the burned-crisp crust style--one I prefer. The ingredients are traditional mixed with non-traditional; sausage and olives. Tasty as hell. Don't mix the soup/salad with a pizza--you'll be too full. The pizza takes about 8 minutes, so it is tempted to order more. Get soup and salad if you don't want a pizza. They push their pies, the dessert ones. I didn't try one so I can't speak to it. They appear to have no pineapple or jalapeños. This is very disappointing, but who am I to complain? They know what they are doing on the pizza. Wait staff seems completely disinterested in anything but your most basic needs--and it actually works. Tourist trap towns tend to have those over-the-top-please-tip-me type servers.
