When you stay in Napa Valley, it's hard to find reasonable (translation: budget) accommodations. If you want to stay over in Sonoma, you can certainly find inexpensive lodgings in the Santa Rosa area. But for Napa, you either have to really luck out, or really look hard. I found Hillcrest by Googling B&Bs for Calistoga (my favorite town in Napa Valley). The prices are right - starting at $69, midweek - a bargain by Napa standards. (Prices range $69-110 midweek; $135-179 on weekends.) The inn is located north of Calistoga as Route 29 rises out of the valley heading towards Clear Lake (approx 2 miles from downtown Calistoga). Be aware that the driveway is unpaved from where it leaves 29 up to the house (about 1/3 mile?). The family which owns this B&B was the same family that founded Chateau Montelena, although they no longer own the winery. However, this property does have marvelous views of the Montelena vineyards and the north end of Napa Valley, which are quite lovely. Since you're out of town, it is really super quiet and relaxing up there. There's a table and chairs where you can savor views of the valley, and a nice pool (although it's a bit loaded with pool toys, floats etc) with deck chairs. The yard is nice and there's a trampoline out back, although I'm not sure if guests are allowed to use that. I was a bit surprised that it was sort of self-check in. (The owner was out walking her two dogs when we drove up the drive. Be cautioned if you're not very fond of dogs that her dogs are very friendly and social.) Likewise, you may find that it is a bit of self-check-out (we weren't quite sure where to put the pay envelope). Although she took a credit card for the reservation, she said she prefers cash/check when paying because of the fees that credit card companies add. (Reasonable request, but we almost forgot to hit the ATM the evening before so we'd have cash.) Our room was the "garden view" one, which meant it overlooked the front entryway garden area. We had a two-person sized jacuzzi tub, which was in a corner of the bedroom. The bathroom had a shower stall, toilet and sink. There was an electric fireplace in the room, but we couldn't quite figure out how to get the TV to work. The bed was comfortable, everything looked and smelled clean. The decor of this particular room was kind of floral-collides-with-harlequins and we were trying to figure out where to move stuff to, so that we could put our own stuff down for easy access (phone etc). So although it wasn't to my decor taste, it was clean and neat, so I have no complaints there. The only complaint I have about this particular room is that the curtains were a bit tough to get them fully closed - since the bed was right next to the window, we had porch light coming through any gaps. There is no breakfast Sunday-Thursday, although she has some bread/toppings, cereal and coffee that you are welcome to help yourself to. The dining room/common room area has an interesting collection of furniture, etc - the impressive dining room table and chairs look like Spanish Colonial style. Overall, clean, comfortable, we had a good experience. The only things I really took half a star for off each was: 1) the check-in/check-out process (maybe she should add PayPal capacity if she prefers cash/check to charge cards); and 2) the reservation techniques - she snail-mailed a confirmation, and I would much prefer to have an emailed confirmation with clear statement of fees, etc. Other than that, I would say this is a bargain deal for Napa. read more

I've been staying here for 7 years!!! All the cry babies complaining about this place are just trying to top the next guy, Gimmie a break!! The views here are majestic !! It's quiet and the rooms are clean and quaint. Debbie is a sweet host and her home is beautiful!!! Her dogs are friendly and your stay here would be special!! The main street is a 5 minute drive down the hill with cute restaurants and coffee places. Calistoga is so awesome!! My sister dog and I come here at least 3 times a year. This place is a fair price and everything you need to get away to decompress. Bring your dog, chill by the pool, take in some quiet, look at the panoramic views and quit bitchen jeez. RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! RUN FAR FAR FAR FAR AWAY!!! We sent our overworked boss and her boyfriend for what was to be a romantic and MUCH needed weekend getaway for Valentines Day weekend. They got the "Shining", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Hills have Eyes" and 'Devil's Rejects" experience. First, the road is dark and scary and thank god they couldn't see how scary until the morning. It was a straight drop. The room was a 1960 add on that someone took a bunch of antiques and threw it together to make it look like a B&B. The TV was a joke, it was a 1980 TV/VCR combo that didn't work. There was bowls of fresh fruit my ass: it was moldy and stinky. After sending her boyfriend to get a bottle of water that was non excitant he came back petrified from the room of scary freaky ass dolls. There was no one around and some guy with a pitchfork like tool was walking around back aimlessly. If you have no standards what so ever and don't mind overpaying then this is the place for you. The website wont alllw us to post a real review so we are doing it on yelp.com STAY AWAY!!!! Pictured must have been from 1960 or photoshopped. For $220.00 it was ridiculous. I guess our first warning should have been when we wanted to have a bottle of wine or champagne waiting in the room for them and the caretaker said "I don't have any money to buy that" HHHMMMMMMM. Lets just say we would have been better at buying them a cheap wine at 7-11 and booking a night at the nearby Motel 6. Human review - 1 star. A strange, scary place. Messy, unkempt, dirty, with the owner's relatives and hangers on running around. There's junk everywhere, cigarette butts, stains on stuff. The kitchen area doesn't look sanitary, the outdoor grill definitely isn't, and despite being in the middle of one of the world's great agricultural regions they make their guest food out of big purchases from Costco. I feel bad to be so harsh because the hostess, Debbie, is a very sweet caring person, full of heart. And the setting is gorgeous, at the very foot of some tall mountains a hundred feet or so above the far northern reaches of Napa Valley. But if you're going to run a B&B there are some things you need to do. Dog review - 5 stars. Woof woof woof! This is one of the most dog friendly places ever. It's totally okay if your dog runs around off leash, they have some dogs of their own to play with including Debo, a sweet giant pit bull who is very tolerant of all the dog antics. There are places to climb and run around and sniff, for a city dog this is a memorable experience in the country. Average - 2 stars, because the humans paid for the trip and are bigger than the dogs. read more

It's hard to give this place one star. My husband and I had had a difficult time finding a place to stay in the Calistoga/St. Helena area during late September. A friend suggested this B&B. She said it was fabulous. She must have stayed someplace else. As we got to the top of the windy road the broken down cars and overgrown garden should have been a warning. But we perservered. Also should have been a warning when we were allowed to pick whichever room/cottage we wanted. We viewed the cottage, which had been suggested to us by our friend, and found it was like something out of a horror movie. Overgrown balcony which was supposed to overlook the valley, spiders and other flying insects seemed to be the current occupants of both cottage rooms. We ended up in a room in the main house overlooking the front patio. It was small and overly cluttered. And don't get me started about the pool. The numbers were peeling off the sides of the pool, first step was squishy and there was a large top covering a huge whole in the bottom of the pool. Disgusting. Oh - and to get to the pool you walk through the owner's personal living quarters which looks like something out of a hoarder's reality show. Our "full" breakfast Saturday morning consisted of a plate of fruit and a raspberry turnover. And for this we paid $165 a night - for 2 nights. Never again! read more

I'm giving Hillcrest a 4 star in my mind for location and quaint beauty, and a 2 star for service and cleanliness. We didn't get much in the way of personal touch when it came to our host, but we had ample towels, the door was unlocked for us, and we got what we needed. Breakfast was a little lacking (cold fritatta and muffins), but was saved by the beautiful plates of fruit with flowers that we each got! The coffee was hot, and drinkable and like I said, we had what we needed. BUT THE VIEW FROM OUR ROOM, OMG! Let me get to the part where I loved this place. To get to it, you turn off from the main road and basically drive along a cliff for a half mile. You get to a parking lot behind the house and enter from the back. When you get to the dining room and guest rooms, you are met with the most breath-taking view of the valley (is it Napa Valley? Calistoga? I don't care!) and all there is to see below the mountain. Fields and meadows and vineyards and farmhouses, it's all on display. We went in early spring, so there was lots of green and new growth to be seen, but I'm sure it's just as beautiful in summer and fall. The location is definitely the top reason to stay here, and it would be a great place to relax and forget about the world. I would also like to point out that we stayed on a Sunday night into Monday, and I know she provides more full breakfasts and probably has more guests on the weekend mornings, so that might be a different experience. This was a one night stay as we had been apart for 5 weeks. I want to say that the view from this hill top inn is the only part of this stay that held up. I think if this had been an economy stay we could have been more generous, but the Garden Room with tax was close to $200.00 Our host seemed to be either absent or not fully engaged. It was a hot day and the pool appeared to be undergoing some repair. It was suggested that we go to one of the Spa's such as Indian Springs and a few others, but on the weekends none of these take day guests. Our hostess suggested the community pool. I will say that the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The house is cluttered with antiques and you get the feel that you are in an eccentric aunt's home. Breakfast is a stretch. It was a fruit plate and then some kind of bun with some sticky sweet sauce poured over the top. It was not edible.. It appeared, the owner's son was serving the juice and it was like he just wasn't the happiest having to do this, although he tried to be polite. The one time we did try to sit out in a seat and look out at the view another family member it appeared was sitting behind the house. It was just a sort of strange vibe that you felt. I think if our hostess was a little more personable and seemed to enjoy what she was doing we could overlook a lot about this stay. read more

The place is cute and funky. Needs some de -cluttering. Dusty with lots of stick up energy in past history of some ghostly relatives. The ad promised wifi... Needed to catch up with some work, but the wifi was not available or slow. One bathroom with toilet for 3 guest rooms... A bit crazy.. I am used to youth hostels with that type of service a lot less expensive! I feel like driving back to sf now, so I know I can rest at last! I forgot to mention: previous guests ate peanuts. 2.5 stars...This 'rustic' place is Beverly Hillbillies meets Andy Griffith. It is definitely not romantic whatsoever but was still relaxing. We went for a last minute New Year's trip to Napa with my boyfriend's cousin and his girlfriend and had to stay in a dog-friendly place since they both have dogs. They found this place. We stayed in the little 2 bed/1 bath house up the hill (not the main house where the breakfast is served). The house itself was clean, bedrooms clean, but the shower was kind of scary...even my bf who was in the army thought so. We were there for 2 days and only each showered once to avoid having to go back in that shower. As the other describers noted, the main house is very cluttered and dusty, but all of the glasses and dishware were clean, and the lady who owns the place, Debbie, is really nice, and you can tell she loves having guests come since she's so social and sweet. She let us go to the main house and watch the ball drop (it was New Year's Eve and the upper house doesn't have cable, and I'll be damned if I was going to miss Dick Clark!) and were in the master bedroom. I was glad I was staying up in the top house, the rooms just smelled musty, but looked clean, though I didn't inspect too close. However, property had a great view and you could walk around the property and really experience the relaxation Napa is known for. And Debbie said she'd drive us into town if we wanted to drink and she'd pick us up. The property is from the late 1800s and Debbie is the great great granddaughter of a famous senator, so it was really neat to stay there knowing the history of the place. The breakfast was also really good, i think she made a breakfast quiche or fritata. I would give them 5 stars for their dogs: a fat (no, seriously the biggest dog ever) Daschund and Depot, the SWEETEST Pit Bull who roams around. I was a little scared of Pit Bulls until I met him, and I was genuinely sad to leave because of this guy! We likely won't be coming back but it's really only because for the same price (sans the dogs) we can stay in a more 'us' type of place. If you stay, bring cash or your checkbook, they don't take credit cards. read more

Booking.NO!!!! Not much I can say to add to what's already been said. We booked one night due to last minute schedule change and this looked fine for one night judging by the pictures on Booking.com. We had the garden room, which as pointed out has little privacy, one because it's right by the front door and two because the curtains don't fully close. The room was not clean, the bathroom shower curtain was full of mold, the vanity drawers filthy, and the vanity cupboard full of empty product bottles. It was as if someone was living in there and had to vacate for a night because we booked it. All the towels were wafer thin, none matched, hand towels looked like dish towels. Booking.com rated it as three star but the room lacked basic amenities. Our room didn't look anything like the pictures another guest posted, maybe we just got the worst room?? Like another guest commented, approach to the building involves driving past a junk yard of cars. The interior common areas, especially the 'kitchen' area were doubtful to pass a health and safety inspection. The fridge was scary, inside and out! Food was definitely of the bulk buy discount variety. The pastries for the following morning were on the table the afternoon before, covered with clingfilm. Not exactly appetizing. read more

My first one star review and I thought long and hard before giving it away. I feel bad giving such a low rating but honestly if I could give no star, I would. This place was picture perfect in my imagination. It seemed perfect-location, price, and the pictures looked good too. However, please do not expect to get a room like the photos you are seeing. I wasn't able to take snap shots of the place myself because I honestly just used the place to sleep in. There was no leisurely lounging or sight seeing involved. The place was dirty and looked run down. The road to drive up is extremely windy, unpaved, and UNLIT so if you're driving at night, best of luck to you, my friend.Haven't heard of anyone driving off or dying to get here but then again, I don't follow the news. Blankets were dirty. There were small holes and tears in the comforter and bedding. The walls were extremely thin and every thing creaked from the doors to the floors. Adds to the rustic feel, I guess? Was also excited to play with the "friendly dog" the owner told us about over the phone however once we got there, I found out this dog was a bulldog that looked like it hadn't been bathed in YEARS. I am not exaggerating- it was friendly alright but it was filthy. The free breakfast (during the weekdays) consists of your standard packaged danishes and tea bags. Nothing fancy. Wifi service is terrible. Don't expect to get any internet reception here unless you plan on camping out in the living room area. From inside my room, I couldn't get any reception. I really wanted to love this place. It seemed like the perfect B&B and nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of downtown SJ but I was extremely disappointed. read more

We are definitely not going back to this place. just a quick review for you all. pros: -great views of vineyards and of the west mountains. -ten minutes from town -pet friendly -remote location and quite -has a decent size pool -has a medium sized hot tub (about 4 people comfortably) -Debbie is nice but... -on site pets are friendly Cons: -there are more cons that pros - it's very cluttered and moldy smelling in the main house and in the little cabins. -Debbie is nice, however the customer service was not really there. when we arrived, there was no one to greet us, just a list of names and what rooms to go to on the front door, no keys etc. we had to look around the house for the keys it was a little weird wondering around someones house, saying "hellooooo? anybody here???" -the road to the bed and breakfast is windy and not lit very well. this is a hazard because the road is barely wide enough for one vehicle and it's a two way road! very scary anticipating if a car would come around a blind corner and hit us. there are no caution signs or reflective signs anywhere on that dark road. -we stayed in the mountain view "cabin", it appeared to be clean but smelled like mold, the sliding glass door jammed a few times and almost came off the track every time we opened it, bugs could get in the room from the large crack under the front door, bedspreads and towels were really old (I'm not sure if they were washed) -Debbie mentioned the house keeper only comes once a month (EW!), her son had to come and clean the linens etc. -breakfast was blah. choices are old cereal, eggs and fruit. it was not ready by the time everyone was up. this caused many of us to wait for the food to be made. food was not brought out all at once. some people ate while others waited for them to bring food out. the bread was moldy, (however Debbie replaced it when we showed her the moldy bread), coffee pot was dirty with old coffee in the well, the fruit plate was nasty. the fruit was not juicy or good. it was dry and had the flavor of whatever it absorbed from the refrigerator. there was not much food and we had to go elsewhere to finish breakfast. -the price she charges is not worth staying here, because you will end up paying more out of pocket. do yourself a favor and spend that 200 dollars at a hotel in town that offers better customer service and cleaner rooms overall. dont jeopardize your health. read more

This is the worst place I have ever been to!!! Please, do not go here, even if it is dog friendly. You'd be better off spending more money than staying here. The only good thing is the view, but unfortunately that's about all the good I can say. First of all, the other couple that showed up the same time as we did, left as soon as they could, and I don't blame them. I wish we would have done the same!! We stayed in the master bedroom, so we had our own bathroom. The room smelt like a combination of dirt, mold, and urine.... and the floors were extremely dirty. The ceiling fan worked, but the light was hanging by a single wire, and the glass was moldy. You'd think having your own bathroom would mean the shower and the sink would actually work, but nope!! I could take a better shower by pouring a cup of water over my head. There was no water pressure and it was more of a trickle than a shower. But at least you have some friendly spiders to shower with....YUCK! So, I had to go down the hall and use the shower the other guests were using, which I don't mind, but it was just as bad, plus there were even more spiders! I couldn't take it anymore, so my fiance and I took a hike on their so-called "trails". We walked for about 10 minutes, then ran into their marijuana grow (3 plants). LOL!!! I couldn't believe it! That's just bad business!! I hate being so mean about this place because the lady was nice, but everyone should know that this is not a good place to have a nice, relaxing vacation. This B&B is not fancy however it is peaceful, the views are beautiful and there are plenty of ways to relax. My favorite was to lounge by the pool and in the hot tub and to hike above the hilltop house. Hillcrest is perched high above the Chateau Montelena and it overlooks several of Napa's famous destinations. The historical California property was purchased by the proprietor's great great grandfather, a noted California State Senator Alfred Tubbs at the turn of the century - From the main dining room you can not only view the valley but you can also watch the Calistoga Geyser. On the evening I visited, I was invited to attend an evening concert in the great room of the main home. Karen Mars, an incredibly talented concert pianist showcased some of the inspired songs from the new album she is working on. We were treated to a wine reception and a concert while overlooking the beautiful Calistoga valley. It was amazing and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it. The host Debbie and her friends and family were so hospitable. In the morning, there was a beautiful fruit plate waiting as part of a breakfast offering which also included a breakfast strata. I was able to take a look at several of the rooms and if I returned I would again stay in the two bedroom mountain view house. It included a living area, a kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms and a front and back patio which offered plenty of privacy. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and it was like something you see in a scary movie. First, the house and the property was a dump. There were cars with duct tape holding plastic over the windows, and there was literally pieces of wood that used to be part of the porch on the ground left to rot. Second, I was informed that if there was nobody in the main house, that the key would be in the door of the room in which we were to be staying. There was no such key. I had to go back and forth between the main house in the pouring down rain several times as well as call all of the numbers provided. Finally I found the caretaker and she informed me that the last people that stayed there didn't return the key. Hmm, that made me feel safe. Third, the room smelled really badly like dog, cigarettes, and mold. The ceilings leaked and water was dripping in the bathroom all day and night. The only heat source was a heater that looked like a fireplace. That was a joke. The heater had to be left on full blast all day and night so that the room actually warmed up. It was so cold that my husband and I filled the bath with the hottest water possible and huddled in it until it went cold. Finally, in the morning when we gathered to have breakfast, the house was dirty and cluttered. They allowed their dog to beg at the table and there was a lot of awkward silences. My husband and I couldn't wait to get out of here. Not once during our stay did we feel safe, and not once did it feel romantic. It was the biggest ripoff. $200 after tax. This saddened me that someone could have such a jewel of property and allow it to go to swaller like this. It makes me want to rescue it. The view was magnificent, but that was tainted by how gross my surrounding was. read more

Unfortunately I never checked yelp before making this reservation because we booked very last minute and this was the only place that seemed to have rooms available. Let me start with the pluses. Debbie, the owner is sweet and lovely and very helpful. The views are truly magnificent and we got to watch the hot air balloons land right off the property. Sharing breakfast with the other guests around the huge dining table was really pleasant. We had a place to sleep and the bed was comfortable BUT the decor is weird to say the least; very cluttered; the smell of the room was unpleasant but tolerable. The place is in fact poorly kept; looks as if they have fallen on hard times and don't have money to repair anything so our slider door to the deck fell off the track, the toilet needed to be fixed (we did it) because the water never stopped running. We were up by 7am because you could hear every door shut and every step in the hallways. The good news is that I was so happy to be away for the weekend and I have a great capacity to make the best of anything so I didn't let any of this get to me. I do wish that someone would help put this place back into a good state so that the reviews improve. Again, Debbie, the owner, is a lovely woman and couldn't have been nicer BUT.... read more

I really don't even know where to begin. The nice thing I can say is that the view is magnificent. I went to fill my water bottle and the kitchen is so dirty that had I seen it first I would not have eaten my breakfast. There are creepy dolls everywhere. When I was using the bathroom several people kept aggressively trying to get in as I said loudly "I'm in here!!!" "Occupied!!!" Then someone came and unlocked the door. While I was inside?! The pool was totally unusable and the family was having a domestic dispute. I do not recommend staying here. read more

We can not even grant this place a one star. We can agree with all of the negative comments by the other guests although we didn't stick around long enough to find out about the dreadfully described breakfast, the view or the friendly pit bull, all we saw was the pit! As the others have said, the place was dirty, frightening and it felt unsafe. We were to stay in the Garden Room but as it was right inside the front door we asked if there was another room available that might offer more privacy. Debbie, the owner who was gracious and kind, said that we could walk over and check out the cottages. As we entered the first cottage we found an unkempt man using a leaf blower on the patio, a nauseating odor was left in his wake and it wasn't from the leaf blower. The cottages did offer more privacy but we had difficulty even finding how to turn on a light or the heat. One cottage offered a thermostat on the wall which had no cover. The toilet was dreadfully dirty in one and the jetted tub was dirty in the other. We found dirty glasses in both cottages, empty coffee containers, and the final straw was a container of leftover ranch dressing from someones pizza delivery! The bathroom linens were mismatched garage sale bargains and judging from those we were afraid to find the condition of the bed linens. There were old bathrobes and sweaters in the makeshift closets along with a vacumn and electric heaters. The floors were uneven and the large plastic tropical decorations were tacky and dirty. The dining room table was beautifully set but reminded us of Mrs. Havisham's table awaiting guests for a breakfast that never happens, we had Greater Expectations! We really tried to talk ourselves into being able to feel safe & comfortable here but given the price and uncleanliness we finally spoke to Debbie and told her that we just couldn't stay. She was gracious and told us that we didn't have to stay. We truly felt bad in leaving but we would not been able to relax and enjoy our weekend in those surroundings. We are not snobs in the least but we do require cleanliness for which there was no emphases. If you are interested and comfortable in a dirty old hippie's compound with dusty antiques cluttering the place at $200 a night, this is the place for you! No bathing, shoes or shirts required! read more

My girlfriend and I and our greyhound Reba, stayed at the Hillcrest B&B a few months ago. We were glad to find a place in Calistoga that was pet friendly. If you are looking for something out of Better Homes and Bed and Breakfasts, this is'nt it. But it is very quiet and peaceful, and the views from the three rooms overlooking the vineyards are fantastic. Each of these rooms is nicely furnished and has a private balcony. Two of the rooms share a bathroom, and the third has a private bath. The garden room also has a private bathroom and jacuzzi bath. We stayed in this room the first of three nights. It was eclectically furnished, but a little tight with a large dog, so we moved to one of the rooms overlooking the vineyard. We were very comfortable in that room. The grounds above and below the B&B were great for our dog. The proprietor Deb has two very friendly dogs, a bulldog mix named Debo, and a dachshund named Arthur. Reba got along very well with both dogs. Debo usually accompanied us on our hikes around the property. While in Calistoga we went to spend the afternoon at one of the local spas. While we were out, Deb looked after Reba free of charge. If you are travelling with a dog through dog-unfriendly Calistoga, then Hillcrest B&B is a real find. read more

The place is in disrepair. Reminded me of an old Hippie Commune from the sixties. Owner does allow pets as she is a pet owner herself. Asked us if our dog was gentle, non -aggresive- we have a mellow dude dog but turns out one of her pets is a pitt-bull named Debo. He was mellow, but we were warned by a fellow traveler not to let ours play with him as he became aggressive. Room smelled of urine ; not sure if dog, or human. One of the travelers swore it was a backed up sewage system. Owner was gracious, but rarely around. Had to find her to pay the tab. I love this place. We can bring our dog, it has stunning views and I can utterly relax as if I am staying in a good friend's or even favorite relative's home. I love places like Debbie's because I can totally let down and enjoy the surroundings. No stuffy snobs looking for other fancy fake people, a hazard when visiting the area. I love the other guests who like to come here because they are down to earth and fun to be with, too. It bothers me that people who like plastic fancy surroundings and sterile environments give this place a bad name, and I am glad those kind of people stay away because they are no fun to be with when you are trying to relax and have a good time with friends. If you are a genuine, down to earth dog lover, and want to enjoy learning about the history of the area from one of the founding father's grand-daughters, this is the place for you. I stayed here to attend a friend's wedding due to its close proximity to the location of the wedding and high recommendations from the bride. This was my first experience at a B & B and it was god awful. It smells musty, it is very crowded, and the owners were barely around, until it came time to pay. Upon our arrival, we learned that our room had been given away to another guest who was also attending the wedding. We also learned that some of the other wedding guests had checked in the night before and had stayed in our room the night before and I know that the sheets were not changed! We skipped the complimentary breakfast the next morning because we just desperately wanted to get out of there. If you are used to places with some level of luxury and cleanliness, definitely don't stay here. read more

I must say the price is what lured me in as well as the pictures online. That was all deceptive. We wanted a weekend away from San Francisco- so we chose Calistoga again. Previously we had stayed at the Wine Way Inn- that was an amazing experince. We had hoped that we would strike gold again, but all we got was a lump of dirt. The check in process was nil. The rooms smelled musty and moldy. It seemed like we had checked into a house Honey Boo Boo would we running when she became a Bed and Breakfacst owner. I am going to say the guys that lived there were polite and friendly. The woman was scary and she served frozen muffins and thawed out fruit from the freezer. The electric fireplace and tv went out in the middle of the night. Thus we had to wake up Honey Boo Boo to hit the circuit breaker. I hope that these people decide to invest time, money and hardwork and get this place up to par. It is shameful that such a beautiful piece of property has been so poorly maintained. If you see pictures of what the main house once looked like and makes you cry to think what went wrong. I guess you could blame the economy, but some team work and sweat might make this place more presentable. read more

Sad to see this B & B get such poor ratings. I believe the reason behind most of the poor reviews is the expectation a reviewer had about a B & B in Calistoga. I think most people would assume that when you think of Calistoga, you would think of vineyards, spa treatments, and generally high class stuff. This B & B is not of that mold. I would say it is more along the lines of country living. It's simple. It's peaceful. It's modest. It's rustic. If you like that, this is a good place to stay. I stayed here for two nights and was pleased with my stay. The view was gorgeous, the house dogs were friendly, and the room was clean. This place is definitely dog-friendly. I will validate that the facility isn't anything close to the luxury resorts around there but it definitely had a small, down to earth charm about it. Sure there are some cas out there that looked abandoned. Sure there are some places where it looks cluttered and disorganized. Sure, it is a bit dusty and isolated. But none of these things bothered me. This was a safe and friendly place. If you want that romantic, lovey dovey place that caters to your every need, my recommendation is to go down Silverado Road, pay more, and get pampered at Solage or Calistoga Ranch. read more

The only way to describe this place is creepy. The hostess was no where to be found despite several calls to her cell phone. The place was empty except for the creepy doll collection in the corner. The place was cold and very uninviting. I left to find a warm and comfortable place elsewhere. I imagine I would have stayed if the hostess greeted us since I was on a budget and did not need anything fancy, but I do not feel right climbing into a bed without checking in with the owner first. I do not recommend this place, if you are on a budget just pack a tent and sleeping bag and stay in your car. read more

When I call to confirm our dog was ok, the man that answered the phone said "we love dogs! And he sounded so nice, so we were really looking forward to staying in Napa with our dog (hard to find, right?) Upon our arrival, we were a little disappointed as to the condition outside (trash and broken glass) but thought, what the heck, they love dogs. Well, beware, especially summer time, their dogs are in and out all the time - and what we were to find out soon - they have fleas!! Lots of fleas. We didn't notice the bites until the second day, worse though, was when we got home and were unpacking - we saw them all over our clothes! Had to wash everything, and had to take out poor puppy into get a flea dip it was so bad. Yes, the people are nice, the view is awesome, but unless you want to come home with little nasty visitors . . .suggest somewhere else . . . . . read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! The view of the valley is magnificant. The view of everything else is disgusting! I can only assume the health department hasn't been there since the original date of licensure (however I am going to contact them). There are dog droppings everywhere. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were fresh. That is ALL I can say positive about this place. Debbie described over the phone what she wishes her B&B was NOT what it actually is. I was creeped out by the doll collection (see other rating comments re: dolls). Debbie is a hoarder which might be alright except that her stacks and piles of "stuff" is visable from the living room. She has beautiful music playing and pretty lights glowing at night which was nice. We got totally ripped off by paying $165 dollars for our room. Only did so as we were desperate for a room and there was nothing available in Calistoga or anywhere else due to multiple events. BEWARE !!! read more
