Selection was on the smaller side but did happen to find a few good deals. I love jewelry so that where I started. Found a sterling silver tennis bracelet a bangle bracelet and a pair of hoop earrings all sterling silver for a reasonable price. Definitely worth it to stop by and see what you find. It's clear to me now why they're called pawn brokers. They sell broken jewelry. Sold me a bracelet that broke first time putting it on gf. Bought this piece as a graduation gift, and fresh out of the box first time putting it on her wrist the link it falls right apart, embarrassing. Brought it in to ask what they could do, to no surprise they were unhelpful and painful. Telling me it was fine when they sold it and I'd be the one paying for repairs. I'm aware all sales are fine and these are used pieces, but terrible business practices to sell junk that falls apart on the first wear. $1100 was an expensive lesson but learn from my mistake and do not give these people your money! read more

Do yourself a favor, this place will take complete advantage of you, avoid this pawnshop like the plague! The good reviews are fake! I showed up in person after my horrible experience with them to see if we could resolve the problem. Jessica was the one that helped me and was very condescending and told me they sold my rifle that I had purchased for my birthday for $900. I explained to him that I never received a phone call or mail sent to me and he went to show me a document that was clearly fake that didn't prove anything regarding them trying to communicate with me prior to selling my belongings. ( 2 guns worth $2000) Jessica goes on to basically call me a liar and that he knows for a fact that what I'm telling him isn't true. I was shocked at how unprofessional Jessica was and clearly did not care to help or to resolve the problem. I asked to speak to the owner but he was conveniently not at the location. I then asked if they could at least give me a deal/discount on a gun that after everything I would spend more money here if they could at least give me a discount after they basically stole $2000 from me. I was told that I have to speak to the owner but the owner is never at the shop, how convenient and he never answers phone calls. This pawnshop makes their money by stealing from the poor customer that has the misfortune of doing business at this pawnshop. Based on my recent interaction with this shop, I would say STAY AWAY. I purchased a laptop from them. At the store, I plugged it in, and turned on the internet. Not much else you can do while standing in a store. I then took it to my reputable computer repair shop to transfer my apps and data onto it. Later that day, the repair shop called to tell me to take the laptop back because the hard drive was failing. They have actually documented this in writing. I spoke to Jessica at the pawn shop. She re-iterated the 'no returns' policy of the store. I asked if they would refund some of my money since it was in fact a defective product and she refused. Jessica insisted that it 'was working when you bought it.' From my computer expert, there is no way to know if a hard drive is working properly until you get it home and start loading apps and data. I am profoundly disturbed by the lack of integrity of this shop. I paid them for a defective product and they would not compensate me in any way or take any responsibility for selling defective merchandise. Stay away. read more

I must say that they were both the most professional gun dealers I have ever met with in my many years of dealing with and collecting firearms. May not be the biggest pawn shop but they have a lot of goodies from firearms, DVD's, guitars and much more. The prices aren't the best but there pretty good and the employees are very helpful. To me having A/C is a big plus because some pawn shops are old and don't have A/C. This is definitely a place to check every so often because you never know what they'll get. read more

I am absolutely blown away at how rude the owner of this place is. Treats people like absolute crap, very belittling and unwilling to listen and treat people like equals. Apparently he fired the only friendly person here recently, so I'd 100% recommend going to another pawn shop and do not give this person any business. I have never had a pawn experience as bad as t Update*- so turns out the owner lied to me when he said he fired the friendly staff member, very petty. I thought this would be my go to place as they specialize in and have great knowledge of one of my big hobbies but after my last experience it won't be. Devin the owner is wonderful, a very sweet guy with a lot of great info to offer however I made an order that I prepaid for, called about it and they said it would be delivered late the next day and would be ready for pickup the following day. I called the morning he told me it would be ready and they had already sold half of the order and then tried to sell me an alternative for almost three times the price. He said he called the day before and left a message, there was no message and having talked to his employee I came when I was supposed to and didn't get what I ordered. He then told me that because I didn't talk to him it didn't matter if I called. As a side note, at the time I placed this order there was still a handful of stores that had this product in stock, I relied on this store and now it's sold out everywhere. In these troubled times you will see the ethics of a business on full display and know who you should rely on going forward and this one let me down. In all fairness what I can tell you is that I didn't receive bad service until this visit but this visit, the co-owner was combative and rude (told me I didn't need my whole order) so despite having spent almost 1k in there in the last two and half weeks I am now done. If you do however make an effort with this store do it when Devin is in and you should be in for at least a great conversation and knowledgeable answers to your questions and in Devin's defense he tried to fix the situation but was overruled by his partner in an almost unbearably uncomfortable exchange. read more

Recently purchased a handgun for my Navy son online from Buds Guns and had it sent to Hillcrest Pawn in San Diego as an FFL dealer. After calling and speaking to an individual who said he was an employee, I was quoted a minimal handling charge as the recipient of the weapon would be an active duty service member. Imagine my surprise when I was advised that after 10 days my son was charged a significantly higher fee than what was quoted, and in addition he was charged additional California SALES TAX for an item that was purchased and taxed in Kentucky. I bought a silver chain that was stamped with Italy 925 on it and it turned out to be fake. I went back to the hillcrest pawn shop and informed them that the chain was burning my neck with a rash like reaction as well as showing the silver overlay discoloration. They told me that they can't do anything about it. The people are rude and disrespectful. They sell fake items. They didn't even bother to rectify the situation. Stepped in over the weekend to look around at some firearms. Prices are a little high for used guns and not too far off from buying one brand new, particularly the glocks and I did see a sig p229 that was less than a hundred cheaper than buying one brand new at a gun store. Who knows how "used" these guns are but in my opinion id rather just spend the extra 50 or so dollars and get one new. I also asked about an ar15 on the wall and it was a basic dpms and used with basic trigger and lower parts kit etc. for $600!!! You could build one yourself for 400-500 brand new. Well to each their own I guess but considering this is a pawn shop you may be able to negotiate price but I wouldn't waste my time. Go to a gun store and get something brand new. read more

Asian gentleman who I assume was the owner was fine. The heavy set gentleman on the other hand IMO was very rude. I went in to do a possible trade on some lower end but yet collectable instruments I own (65' Silvertone and a 58' Kay both professionally set up and in great condition ) as well as some gear that is not necessarily collectable per say but are very desirable such as an EH Big Muff Pi V5 Op Amp Tone Bypass, a Very nice wah and a Script Logo Dyna Comp..he was concerned with the scratches on them...yet they are in PERFECT Working order (this is called "character") in which he was not knowlagble about and becuse of scratches he was offering me in the neighborhood of $12-$20 in trade! I obviously did not do the trade for the item that I was looking at and was prepared to throw down some cash on as well.. Not to mention, after further inspection of that instrument I would not have done the trade anyways because serial numbers were non existant as well as its original hardware. He told me it was original but after i showed him pictures of what the original is supposed to look he then agreed. And last but not least I had brought $900 in cash (just in case the instrument deal did not go down) with me to purchase their asking price of a $1000.00 (I believe it was Persian) area rug, but since the hevevier set gentleman was so rude I decided to take my belongings and leave. If they offered to sell me that rug for $100.00 right now I would Not buy it from them on principal alone. I was prepared to spend $900 in there today but I will Never go into their store again. I hope they read this and chalk it up as a learning experience on how to treat their customers. I gave 2 stars only because the owner was somewhat pleasent and respectful. read more

This place has some very nice antique jewelry. I bought a ring of diamonds and sapphires, which is gorgeous and costs only a fraction of what you will pay in auction houses, not even retail. I then bought a couple of antique bangles, one is 18kt yellow gold with diamonds and sapphire, and the other is 18 white with diamonds. I get complements all the times for them and nobody believes what I pay for. I will go back and will shop for myself and my family. I will never go back to the jewelry shops in the mails or anywhere else. read more
