I had the misfortune of crossing paths with some Hilldrup movers today while walking my dog on a busy stretch of Adams Mill Road, DC. They had completely blocked the path with a ramp that was about 3 feet off the ground - too high to step over and too low to go under. When I asked them to it, they initially ignored me then told me to walk in the street. With the size of the truck and the way they were parked that would have meant my dog and I had to literally walk in the middle of the street. A lawsuit just waiting for Hilldrup. We had a terrible experience with another mover 5 years ago so I was dreading our recent move. I went to the United site and they referred me to Hilldrup's Stafford, VA office. I had a lot of questions and requests (thanks to my previous experience) and thought Hilldrup was just outstanding. Ben Frakes, the Residential Sales Consultant, and Ann Carvajal, the Senior Move Counselor, were tremendously helpful. They answered all of our questions, re-quoted for us (I underestimated my packing speed), and they showed professionalism every step of the way. The packing and moving team was just great: professional, careful, thoughtful, and very helpful in asking where furniture should go and making a couple of suggestions. We had some small damage to a desk and that was easily repaired. A refund was issued promptly for the boxes we had packed, and we were glad we didn't have to follow up on it. We used Hilldrup to move us out of our former home, store our belongings for 30 days and then deliver to our new home. Our Move Counselor Maria was a delight to work with as she was responsive to all of inquiries and kept us well informed during the entire process. She was great! Equally superb were the teams that moved us out and in. As we had eight folks for the move out, it was quick and painless. Unfortunately, I do not have all the names but they were all great. Josh was our team manager and he also led the crew that moved us both out and in. Jason and Dee were part of the team that packed us out and then moved us back in but I don't recall the other folks....they were all great. The entire process was professional and efficient. The price for the move was based on a virtual walk-through of my home and discussion of my needs. The price is fixed, so the workers are not paid by the hour and there are no surprises at the end. The movers wrapped all of my furniture items in blankets and placed a rubber strap around my outdoor chest. They were friendly and helped arrange the furniture. I decided to reposition a bed and they took care of it for me (with a warning that they can only reposition it once). I had labeled everything and everything except maybe 3 boxes were placed in the correct location. I have a lot of experience moving and I was very impressed with the service. Horrible service. My husband and I moved across the country from San Antonio, Texas to Greenville, SC and the entire process was a headache. These guys didn't know packing 101 and multiple items got broken or damaged in the process. The main driver had the nerve to tell me that the reason so many items weren't check off was my fault... I'm not getting paid here, you are! All I expect is for the job to get done without damages. This was my first use of Hilldrup Movers, they moved my daughter three times and she was very happy with their service. I was not disappointed. Every step went flawless, from my call with their coordinator Maria, to the estimator Pete, who remotely viewed all of my possessions, to the moving team leader, Fred. They handled everything perfectly and professionally. I had over 150 cartons, it was a big move and it was a reasonable charge for all they did for me. They came and packed everything the first day, including an extensive artwork collection, fragile lamps and antique furniture. The second day was more packing and loading on the truck; they even sent a transport truck to move my large mower. Early on the third day my mower was delivered first and then the moving van arrived. I had to rent a small U-Haul truck for some miscellaneous items and Fred and his team unloaded those things for me first. They were fast and careful. They were finished all by early afternoon. Each person on the team packed things so well and/or carried them carefully in and out of my homes. It was the best team of people - all kind and friendly and honest. None of my wood floors were scratched and there was not one broken item. If you have a move coming up, whatever size, you cannot go wrong with this professional company. First impressions, where the first time I called the toll free number 8777204066, I couldn't understand the lady I was speaking with, she transferred me to an agent in Jessup, MD who does not do in person assessments and the clerk answering the phone said"I don't know anything, I just answer the phones". I hung up, called back , and asked for somebody in VA (I live in the DC area) and the lady who seemed again, totally disinterested in her job- gave me a number of Hilldrup in Stafford, when choosing th option "0" to speak to a person, the message "we're sorry, that extension is unavailable", and then dropped me into a voicemail box, tells me all I need to know. Also understand that all of these companies are interrelated with North American, Allied, who report to SIRVA, so the service you are gonna get will be the same the only difference will be the price. These are on par with used car salesmen. BTW I am doing a coast to coast move, and am already nervous as hell about what to expect. read more

Their international division has the worst customer service/clear communication I have ever encountered in my life. They bait and switch--first offered me air freight to international location. Then, two weeks after taking all my belongings, which they had viewed via cam meeting earlier, they suddenly informed me that everything would need to go by SHIP. They sent robotic like "updates" which are not accurate about the time or even route of your shipment. Bottom line, avoid like the plague. I recently moved from South Florida to Louisiana and was assigned Oscar Moreno and his crew from Hilldrup. having heard and read about many horrific experiences I was filled with anx about the move. I was assured multiple times that my things would be respected and moved without incident. Oscar contacted me and introduced himself. he offered to pick up my things a day earlier if I was ready and they could deliver my items within a few days. This was acceptable and perfect for me. I've had 2 experiences over the past 5 years with Jill drip/United for cross country moves. Let me start by saying they have good pricing especially for full service moves, quick response times and logistical planning, and great initial customer service. My review is based on the latest move I had - specifically the end of the move. Prior to the move I'd asked about Covid precautions and was assured that the moving team would be properly protected, however, this was not the case! The driver and his team wore face coverings most times but the face covering was similar to a shirt sleeve. It was a thin piece of cotton and not a medical grade mask of any sorts. Long story short my family and I contracted Covid from the team. How do we know it was from them? I had a 3 month old at the time and had been isolated from people for quite some time. No where else it could have come from. Thanks hilldrup/United! Then, with the ice storms in the Midwest at the time, our home goods were delayed a week. We had to spend an entire week in a hotel since we had no home goods. Customer service was amazing - or so I thought. They were apologetic and agreed to compensate us for our troubles. Wait for it... $200! Our move was $7000 and we spent several hundred more on unexpected lodging and food costs and they agreed to send only $200. Then the drivers company decided to match that and send $200. Though not nearly enough for our troubles (entire family including my newborn with covid, lodging and food costs) I was ready to close that chapter and move on. Here we are a month and a half after they agreed to compensate us and we still haven't received a penny and now getting a response is difficult. This could be a good company but if you have any issues, don't expect for them to resolve them efficiently or appropriately. Customer service sucks! read more

I have waited a year to write this review. We used Hilldrup for a move from Charlottesville, VA to Dallas, TX in June 2022. They were responsible for a partial pack. This is the only review that I have written on yelp. I would not recommend this company for any move for a multitude of reasons. First, we were told that packers would arrive three days before the move. We did not have any packers. The morning of the move there were not any packers. Communication was poor. Second, everything that Hilldrup packed broke. They packed lamp shades by wrapping the shades in blankets, every single one broke. A nice acrylic bookshelf was broken as well. The driver from Richmond had noted this. He stated that this was a poor packing job. In addition, Hilldrup charged us for packing materials that were clearly not used. Damages totaled around 1k. All of it could have been avoided. Everything that I packed personally made it. Third, upon arrival in Dallas, the movers had difficulty lifting furniture and did not assist in assembling furniture. I paid for this service, but found myself assembling all beds and cribs. Fourth, we called Hilldrup who was confrontational about our concerns. Customer service was extremely bad all the way around. Hilldrup is simply a liaison for united moving. Do not be fooled by the "family feel." Hilldrup is charging a premium price, but not delivering a premium service. Ultimately we had to go to a credit card dispute. This year, I personally hired my teams in Dallas and Florida. I used PODs. Lead guy - 4 stars 2 movers- 2 stars Thoroughness in general- 3 stars. Mostly cause I was like a hawk No protective flooring as promised You have to divide the 3 men crew into 2. The Lead and 2 workers. The lead was organized, nice, professional, on time and meticulous and made sure nothing was missing or broken. On the other hand, the 2 workers are a different story. They would rush things, hit my furniture on the wall of the corridor, tried to skip on assembling back the furniture, obviously irritated when I asked them to assemble my couch. They wanted water and gave me looks for not having bottled water for them. After having paid $4500, I didn't know I had to have prepared meals and drinks for them. Mind you, I bought and brought coffee for all of them. Also, the 2 workers would sneak into a room and talk with each other or when they see me, they would whisper something to each other's ears, made me feel uncomfortable. Them not speaking much English was annoying too, I need to communicate with the people inside my home, moving my stuff! 1. Bubble sheet: I was pressured to waive my right to fill up the bubble sheet to make sure all my stuff was delivered. The lead guy demanded that I waive it, so it would be faster. I stood strong and checked it all. They ask you to sign that everything was delivered right after finish bringing stuff in, so waiving this is a bad idea since you can't inform them that something was indeed missing after having signed you got them all. 2. No safety for your belongings: Parked their truck in my building's loading dock and left the truck doors open and my stuff was everywhere: near the dock, in the unlocked truck, by the elevator, along the walls of the common area, some on my floor along the walls and some by the elevator on my floor. I live in an expensive building in a great neighborhood, so nothing was lost. But, I felt their method of delivery was extremely unsafe. If they were delivering to a house, it makes sense, but in cases like mine, huge likelihood to lose your stuff as they are not attended at all. They should only bring out stuff from the truck and direct to apartment and lock the truck for security. 3. Flooring - they will f*** it up I scrubbed and cleaned my floor for 2 hours after they left. I could even read and see the Nike shoe signs embedded onto my hard wood floor. Even after sweeping and mopping I could see their shoe imprints. I had to put all my might and scrubbing to get it off the floor. I was promised and have it in writing and emails that they would carefully place protectants and make sure the floor was protected. Lie. Also, dragging stuff did not help, scratched the floor. 4. I worked harder than the movers I know I could have done nothing. But I wanted to help and it is my stuff anyway. But I can tell with straight face and 100% certainty and honesty that I worked harder than those 2 movers. Not even sure if the movers are worth it. 5. Slow, takes long to unload It took 5 hours to move my 1 bedroom worth of stuff from the truck to my place. It took 4 hours to pack completely unpacked home, but somehow it took them longer to bring packed stuff in and I didn't even ask them to unpack even though it was included in my package. Can you imagine packing everything in kitchen, all the pots and stuff? Well, all that and full packing took 4 hours, but with this company, already packed boxes took 5 hours to be brought in from the truck. Again, I didn't get anything unpacked by them. It really depends on who happens to be the movers, not much about the company, but more of the individuals. Then again, it is the company's job to train them. Hilldrup mispacked and mishandled a TV and I was not reimbursed. Despite recommending/requiring third party crating of my 65" TV, they neglected to schedule the third party and instead had their worker stuff the TV in a box with a coffee table top and some blankets. I couldn't reschedule the pickup and had to let it go, knowing it looked iffy. I have proof of their mistake and still I got $0 for the TV damage. A $2,500 chair also needs reupholstering and I got a fraction of what it would cost as an "appearance allowance". Zero stars from me. read more

My husband and I can honestly say we've never had a better move than our recent move from VA to our FL retirement home. While a relatively small load, we felt the care of not only the "surveyor" (Pete Ball) and most especially of our move coordinator (Maria Pierkarski), but also the packing and trucking team. UPDATED: Hilldrup is unethical. Hilldrup agreed to make a "customer service gesture" (euphemism for refund) by providing me an amount relative to the non-performance and non-delivery of promised services (such as a move coordinator) as well as the amount of time that I had to spend dealing with several third party subcontractors that they did not even know or have established business practices with. THEN, they sent me a document with LEGAL language requiring my non-disclosure in all aspects and as settlement. I have requested them to issue my check as their demands are unethical business practices. I will update my review once they provide ethical resolution. My apartments building management were very reasonable in handling Hilldrup's damages to the hallways and neighbors door, but I am also still awaiting reimbursement for the wall damages they made inside my apartment. UniGroup, the parent company of UnitedVanLines and Hilldrup are an example of large corporations buying out companies and not aligning missions and ethical business practices. M&A didn't do their due diligence as Hilldrup clearly was a horrible "old school" buy when they should have invested in new residential businesses like MakeSpace. *I reached out to UniGroup's CEO regarding Hilldrup's unethical efforts to pay me "hush money" in exchange for non-disclosure of the horrendous experience with them, but haven't heard back. ********* I hired United/Hildrup to handle my move. Our move with Hilldrup had two dimensions, a traditional dimension where Hilldrup was responsible for moving our home goods and then a 3rd party liaison dimension where Hilldrup was responsible for coordinating the move of a specific piece of furniture that required a specialist. Regarding the former, Hilldrup did a good job - proficient and professional. Regarding the latter, Hilldrup did a terrible job. Hilldrup initially misquoted the price of the 3rd party work (which we relied on when choosing them), then refused to either eat the cost of their misquote or split the misquote 50/50. In other words, Hilldrup wanted to pass the entire cost of their mistake onto us. Eventually, we worked it out and then Hilldrup (a) changed the date of the move on the day of, (b) refused to pick up the phone after 5PM EST, © and provided zero information about any of the 3rd party communications they received. In other words, the communication was terrible. When the 3rd party vendor did come out, they broke our furniture within 30 minutes of being onsite. After four months of mistakes and literally hundreds of e-mails, the work eventually got done. The whole process was horrible, and my wife and I got exactly zero customer service from Hilldrup except at the very end when one manager heard our concerns and agreed that the customer service we received was quite bad and that our experience would be used as a training opportunity in the future. While we finished on a good note where someone did hear our concerns, we did not have a good experience with Hilldrup and would not use them again. read more

We booked our cross-country move through United Van Lines, and worked directly with Hilldrup throughout the move. Early on, they did a great job of getting everything squared away and set up. Our move involved disassembling, moving, and reassembling a Murphy bed, which we discussed and included in our initial virtual tour to get a quote. Hilldrup quoted us a reasonable rate to complete this work, which is in big part one of the reasons we went with them. As it turned out, they were not actually able to complete the work as quoted, indicating that they did not look closely enough at the bed to realize it was more complicated than a standard Murphy bed. We were then quoted 3x the rate with use of a 3rd party company, with very little willingness to work with us given that they provided the wrong quote in the first place. The move itself with Hilldrup movers (loading, transport, and unloading) went great. The movers did a great job, were efficient, and nothing showed up broken. The administrative communication and 3rd party services were absolutely awful. I have never experienced such terrible communication from an administrative team. The 3rd party changed the date of initial disassembly and informed Hilldrup, who failed to inform us until I called when no one showed up. We were hung up on because "it's 5:00 and I only work after hours if you have a move in progress", even though we literally had movers in our apartment at the time and were waiting to schedule disassembly. When we finally got it rescheduled, they sent a different tech than scheduled, who was not informed of the type of job, and he broke the bed within 10 minutes of being there. It took 3 attempts to finally get correct replacement parts ordered, as no one looking at the bed had experience with this type of furniture. This was very ironic to us, as we were told they had hired a "3rd party specialist in Murphy beds". Come time for re-assembly, the tech that was sent to complete the job informed us that he had not done this in 20 years and was not able to complete the job. Again, this was someone who Hilldrup hired because they were "specialists". The 3rd party company finally got us in touch with a qualified company to complete the work, with zero help from Hilldrup. Hilldrup did not keep us informed, and actually asked if they could just let us bill through the 3rd party company and let their part be done, even though they were the ones we were paying and had hired to manage all of this. After all was said and done, this was by far the worst customer service experience I have had in a very long time. We finally got in touch with one manager who admitted that our experience was in fact not a good one after hearing all of our concerns, and we are hopeful that this will be used as a training experience and will point out the many gaps in communication and customer service for future customers. I would not recommend using Hilldrup for your move, especially if you have any specific work requiring use of a 3rd party service. Cross country move from Virginia to So Cal. My experience with this company was mixed. The driver and crews on both ends were great. Our move coordinator, though failed miserably. Before our move we had several questions and could not get a call back to answer them. After several (more than 15 emails/calls) we received three calls in return. We felt completely alone in the move process. After the move we needed help locating some missed items and our move coordinator would not respond to calls or email to assist. You always hear horror stories about movers, so naturally I was very scared to hand over all my belongings to movers to ship from Washington D.C. to San Francisco, CA last summer. I did my research and went to those who move best - diplomats at the State Department. I got a list of the 3 recommended movers from a family-friend at State, and then researched all 3 online. I had 2 companies come over for estimates, and was most impressed by the detailed, specific approach of the Hilldrup representative. I found the trust & assurance I needed to feel comfortable about transporting my goods with them, and decided to hire them. I was very impressed with their sticker inventory system (and had one of my own as back-up to avoid anything being lost - and if it was, I wanted to know about it). I'll admit, I also micro-managed the move when the movers arrived at my apartment in VA to ensure they packed things properly, which they did. And I was overall very impressed with the way they packed & moved all my belongings. Since I'm in my mid-20s, much of my "furniture" is from IKEA, and Hilldrup informed me (as does IKEA if you read their product labels) that these items may not withstand the move very well. Luckily, everything did survive in good shape when it arrived in CA - even my IKEA and Target plywood-style furniture. The only small thing that happened was there was a nick on the top of one of my plywood Target-bought storage cabinets (but it was $20 at Target, and I was warned). The important thing is that NONE of my items were lost, and I was very happy about this (it was my biggest fear). One caveat, one of my tall stand-alone lamps was missing, but again that was $30 at Target, and the least of my fears. The crucial thing was the boxes, and I found that ALL of mine were delivered safely in California. Also, none of my glassware was broken. One thing - the movers shoved my mattress in an elevator that was too small for a mattress at my apartment in CA, so it was ruined by its delivery. I had a $500 deductible, and the cost to replace the mattress was $1,175 so Hilldrup did refund me the $675. Other than these few minor issues, I had no major complaints. And given the complications of moving (the small truck that first collected my goods in VA, the transfer to the big United Van Lines truck x-country, then the transfer to the small truck with the local moving company in SF), there is a lot of potential for lost items. Given my one minor lost lamp and one minor scrape on a plywood piece from Target, I was very happy. And the mattress thing - that was just stupidity on the part of the California based company. I let Hilldrup in DC know, and they refunded me with a new mattress, so I was happy. One more positive for Hilldrup is that they timed my move correctly. A lot of movers give you this big 2-week window as to when they'll deliver your goods in the new city. This was another major reason I went with Hilldrup instead of the other company who did the estimate. Since I was driving x-country leisurely in 9-days (incl a 2-day wknd break in CO), we were very concerned that my items would arrive in SF before we would. Hilldrup was able to work with us on timing to try their best to ensure this would not happen (though they make no guarantees on timing). The timing worked out perfectly, and my goods arrived the day after I did in SF. Also, Hilldrup provides you a contact person whom you can call with any questions and to track your goods (and she even called to provide me with updates as we made our way across country in my car). I hired Hilldrup/United Van Lines for a move from Arlington, VA to Bellevue, WA. They were the highest of 4 quotes and I believed that they would stand behind their claims of superior service, move coordinator, expert and professional packing, insurance, etc. sadly, they failed miserably on most. When my household goods arrived in Bellevue, the movers showed me how poorly much of the furniture was wrapped and secured. For example, a buffet that cost $4,500 had two sides that were completely exposed and damaged. Also, a coffee table, dresser and nightstands also had damage. Hilldrup arranged for repair of the coffee table, dresser and nightstands, but not the buffet or a clock that were also damaged. However, despite the best efforts of the repair team, the repairs are rather amateurish and the repairs are obvious. Additionally, some of the items that were quoted to be packed in boxes, were only wrapped in heavy paper and they also suffered damage, such as a picture. The poor packing was also evident as a few glasses and dinner plate were broken. The glasses were nothing special, but the dinner plate was. Then, some of the items were simply not delivered, such as a broom, foxtail and dustpan. They refuse to pay for these, liming that they were not listed on the inventory. Of course, the inventory they make is rather broad, such as dishes, bedroom clothes, cleaning supplies,etc. I also purchased the full value insurance and am now being told that they will pay $50 for a statue that was purchased for $595 because it was not on the high value inventory. The artist is now deceased, so his work, when it is available, starts at about $$1,500. However, I would be happy if I just received what I paid. Moreover, the high value inventory list was not explained to be at packing as the packers said that they listed TVs, speakers, etc. I made a small claim for damages, which should be covered under the very expensive insurance 6 months ago and I am still chasing Hilldrup on the claim. There are promises to review and revert, but no follow up or communication. I wish I read the reviews. I have made 6 or 7 moves over the years and the only damages in all of these were two baccarat glasses, about $300, that was promptly paid. I THOUGHT I had truly excellent, exceptional service from my movers, Reginald Turman and his sons, Reggie II and Jamar. They were polite, prompt, fast and efficient at packing my 5 bedroom home for a military move. I was thoroughly impressed... UNTIL I arrived at my new home and began unpacking. Some of my items were missing!! A SEALED container containing domestic and foreign currency was missing. There was no way of knowing the contents without opening and rummaging through. Christmas gifts for my children which were still in Amazon packaging were missing. Several surge protector strips and outlet wall taps were missing. I'm so disappointed; what appeared to be 5-star service turned out to be THIEVERY. DO BETTER. read more

This review is about the company and the way they do business as well as the 3rd parties they work with, not the individuals themselves (well slightly) I wouldn't recommend them to move items from my living room to my dining room. They were late to pickup, claimed they didn't have enough boxes but they did (they just didn't want to remove my pre-packed items from my storage totes (now I'm in an apartment w/ an abundance of storage totes because they want to be lazy). They were supposed to arrive 8/13. The day before I'm told that won't happen and that they would arrive Mon, Tues, then on Wed. On Wed. I am told 9/4, I promise you I saw red and spit fire when I heard this absurd window. They offer a delay claim which in my case only covered 8 days of hoteling expenses (I guess they wanted me to sleep on the floor) when I asked the delay claim funds be extended I was told that wasn't possible. This means that when your delay claim is depleted they can screw you and show up whenever. Delay claims should go until your items arrive, that should be the push to get my stuff to me in a reasonable time. Needless to say, they were hired by a tech company and once I started sending emails I got a new delivery date of 8/24. The window was for 10am- 12pm. Covid is NOT an excuse do not provide a window that is going to be pushed out 3+ additional weeks. Moving is stressful enough, you'd think a to renounced company would have better organization, communication, and customer service. Daryl Flood Relocation & Logistics delivered my items and the crew was AWESOME! However, the pickup crew damaged a lamp and desk during their packing...let's see how this plays out. The crate people are MIA at the moment to uncrate my mirror -_- Kim my liaison with company was as helpful as she could be but you can't blame the employee who works for a company that isn't transparent and ensures the customer is kept abreast and accommodated when they fall short. read more

Great job!!! Excellent Service!! Rusty, Norman, & George assisted us with our move from Maryland to North Carolina. They arrived promptly, were very friendly and professional. Our homes were approximately 5,000 and 4,500 square feet respectively. We had lots to move! It was so comforting to see Rusty and his team inNorth Carolina. Rusty made sure that every piece was tagged and accounted for. It's been over a year and we're still finding tagged items. They took great care of our belongings. We have a little Yorkshire terrier and unbeknownst to the team we happened to move next door to a family with a Yorkshire. At one point one of the team approached us to make sure that our beloved pet was safe and not off exploring her new neighborhood unattended! They were efficient and worked very well together. Rusty, Norman and George definitely helped make the move a much less stressful experience and we are forever grateful! Our move coordination team was very helpful as well. excellent experience with a United Hilldrup crate move (for smaller house) from VA to NC. Very nice packing team with Kathryn and Antonio. Very careful with furniture up/down stairs. Crates packed well. They wrapped our furniture better than I would have ever done. They supplied protective flooring covers. No damage to any items or to house walls. I got pre and post follow up calls from Hilldrup about my move and prompt customer service when I needed to change items on inventory. Will not use Hilldrup again. They start off promising things but when it comes to actual delivery, I had to wait nearly a month, and pricing they were dishonest and their were extra charges, which they could not really explain. Was quite dissappointed especially given the high cost. At least only one item was chipped and the rest made it fine but the lack of responsiveness (waited weeks for replies) and the dishonesty will make me never be a customer again. read more

Never again. I used Hilldrup to move from VA to NM. I based my decision on initial conversation with sales consultant, who was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Unfortunately, once I signed the contract my main contact was with a coordinator who was one of the rudest and misinformed representatives I have ever worked with. I had to ask multiple times to receive documents, she gave me incorrect information, her tone was always one of someone with a chip on her shoulder, and when I had an issue on day of delivery she barely lifted a finger and gave an explanation, which I found out was false. Everyone I talked to at the company apologized for her and it was clear that I was not alone in my experience with her. The fact that she has been with the company for several years says all I need to know about Hilldrup management. read more

Adding to my first review. Hildrup also failed to deliver my bumper plates for my squat rack. So, two 45 lb plates, two 25 lb plates and two 10 lb plates not delivered or maybe not even packed by their packers. They charged me more than $9000 to move me, and then failed to deliver over $1000 worth of my items. They never responded to my email alerting them that they're missing. And anything else that I was missing their response was I'll escalate it to upper management and that was the end of the conversation. read more

Epilogue: Hilldrup never found my box. Some of the employees I spoke with were courteous and understanding and others less so; regardless, it never seemed like finding the personal belongings they lost was a priority. It also irked me that Hilldrup was far more responsive to my negative Yelp review than my earlier email and phone requests for help. I did receive compensation, but because of a fine-print waiver I had agreed to, it was much less than the value of the contents, even if you don't count their sentimental value. In summary, don't choose Hilldrup if you want to see your things again, and read the contract very carefully. read more

These guys are terrible. I know that when you get professional movers you expect some things to be broken, that's just part of the process. The problem is, we found things that were broken because of really stupid mistakes. Champagne glasses just thrown into the middle of a box full of heavy things, and today unpacking I just found a decorative globe smashed at the bottom of a box full of heavy glassware. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that a globe isn't gonna hold up to 50 pounds of bottles and glasses on top of it. In the end they've promised to pay for anything broken, and I'll post here if that process doesn't go smoothly, but it just sucks to have things broken that were gifts, or that we bought years ago and aren't sure if we can really replace. If you need people to actually pack your boxes and not just move boxes you packed yourself, to somewhere else. read more
