Ordered a dozen donuts (a variety of options) and a couple of brownies. The donuts were fresh and very yummy and the donuts were the softest brownies I have ever had. I normally don't like brownies because they are hard and just not appetizing, however, i will be back even if its just for the brownies.

It's a rainy Friday and your Mom asks you to get her an Apple fritter so go to Jacks. It was after 11 and they still had a great selection of doughnuts. The fritters here are huge with lots of icing. More apples in the fritters would be great. We also tried a cinnamon roll with white icing and toasted coconut and a Boston cream filled which were both good. The staff were helpful and quick. Labeling the doughnuts in the cases would be nice to save time and not have to ask. Jacks is in a strip mall so plenty of parking. Very nice interior, lots of coffee and other drink options. Definitely worth a stop.

Donuts are good. Coffee is good. They support the Pacers, so that's good. They always seem to have a rush of people when I go in, which is good. Service is fairly quick. Employees seem to always be somewhat stressed, but I'm sure they have their fun moments, too. My biggest complaint is that they don't have their donuts labeled. I always feel so stupid when I order a donut and have to point to it because I don't know what it is. Once, I asked for (what looked like) a cherry-swirled donut. An employee looked down and said "we don't have a cherry donut." I pointed to it, and she said something along the lines of "oh. So you want a strawberry swirl donut." I felt like an idiot and grew frustrated because the confusions could be eliminated if they'd just put a tag or little sign in front of the trays of donuts. Also, it would be nice to know which donuts are "Gourmet" before ordering, so I know which ones I'm paying more for. I'll continue going because everything is decent, but mainly because they sponsor with the Pacers.

Finally checking out this local favorite. The buzz is deserving. We got 4 donuts of a variety of types from the huge : a strawberry cake donut, a Boston cream filled donut, a glazed croissant and one of the gourmet donuts, the bacon maple. We are not huge donut fans, but these were really good. We especially liked the glazed croissant. Coffee was lukewarm by mid afternoon, but they also have a variety of espresso drinks. There was a steady stream of customers who all had their favorite type of donut. It's better to get a dozen or half dozen so that you get a box and keep the donuts less messy.

Steve was pretty great too and made my kids and family feel very important and welcome and I'm sure my Indiana family will be loyal customers from now on.

I must admit that despite my reporting on the apparent donut wars in Avon Indiana, with no less…read morethan five different donut shops in the growing town, I'd completely forgotten about the presence of Rise n' Roll Bakery until I happened to be on my way out to Putnam County and happened to look over and see the shop in a relatively small strip center. Rise n' Roll was founded in Middlebury, Indiana by an Amish family as an offshoot of the family's selling of donuts from the porch of their Shipshewana home. Established a Rise n' Roll in 2004, it stayed relatively small for years. The original bakery didn't use electricity, refrigeration, or modern tech. Everything was by hand. In 2009, the Amish owner sold the company to a non-Amish family. It was moved to a larger facility - the original owner stayed employed by the company and the small bakery began to expand including franchising. In recent years, the Central Indiana presence has grown. Rise n' Roll offers donuts, pastries, Amish goods, deli, and other items. While I was sad to see Rise n' Roll leave their Broad Ripple spot, truthfully I tend to resonate more with its simpler locations (there's now a smaller shop in Nora). This spot in Avon reminds me of Nora. I believe the Indiana-based chain has 16 locations statewide. I'm a definite fan of the chain and have never had a bad experience at any location in terms of product or people. I primarily stick to donuts when coming here, however, I'll occasionally deviate. While I'd say that Rise n' Roll is decked out a bit nicer than Carl's, I felt a similar vibe here. In a town that has multiple options, it's really important to distinguish yourself and Rise n' Roll does that nicely. The cinnamon caramel donut is perhaps its most widely known and beloved option, however, I'm a fan of chocolate frosted (yeast or cake). Donut offerings can vary between locations. Employees here are friendly. The strip center has accessible parking with appropriate curb cuts. The single glass door was pretty manageable. I get the sense they'd easily help if help was needed, though it's obvious that most folks with disabilities prefer independence. Overall, I'd easily claim Rise n' Roll as one of my Avon favorites. I won't dare rank the five, though a quick read of my reviews would likely make it obvious. For a more natural option in a pleasing, welcoming setting it doesn't get much better than Rise n' Roll.

There are more things in the back and even an extensive boba drink menu. There are restrooms here. The service was good. The donuts are delicious. There are some really nice unique flavors. The coffee menu is extensive. I didn't see coffee on the menu online. I got the Bismark crunch. This was good but the crunch pieces on top just sank to the bottom because of how heavy it was. I thought it was going to be smaller pieces in the coffee. I got the lemon Blueberry and cinnamon caramel with Bavarian filling. Will def be back to try more flavors

Arrived and noted that there were not many donuts in the display, but we were told they would make them for you. Okay, great. No worries. We ordered two donuts, the breakfast tacos, and a breakfast sandwich. We got milk and a regular coffee. The breakfast items came out fairly quickly, but no donuts or coffee. Kind of waited for a little and then finally had to ask, nothing was being made. Able to get my coffee and the donuts finally arrived. They were not the normal quality at all. I am not sure what they are doing. PROS: A donut place between Avon and Danville, so great for the community Parking is not an issue, but not many ways in the lot CONS: Place was not clean, tables were dirty Process to order and get items was in disarray. (they were training a new employee on the register, no issues with that at all, she was doing what she could and was being trained, they were doing a great job with that. She was not made to hurry and was learning, so all good) Items received were not the quality expected as they are making the as you order, rather than having items available so poorly made. Meaning, when they finally realized we had no donuts, they asked what we ordered and made them. The donut with chocolate icing with sprinkles was just chocolate thrown on it, melting everywhere and it was not appetizing at all. I hate to leave a bad review or a low review, but we are not planning on coming back to this facility. I will definitely try the other options.

The storefront has a few tables to sit at and a large display case of all the donuts. Counter service to order is always pretty quick and easy. I like their rewards program in their app, which occasionally has freebies to entice you to come in. Not that I need it, but it sure helps. This most recent visit I got the local feature, which changes by the store and is supposed to be different for each store. This one had Oreo Cheesecake, which combines two of my favorite desserts. So of course I had to get it. I think I got the last one in the display case! They always have more donuts in the back though, as they make more throughout the day. A standard donut here is $3.95 at the time of posting, and dietary accommodating donut (vegan/gluten free, and keto donuts) are $4.25, so the prices are kept pretty fair in my opinion. They also have mini donuts which are a modest price (that I already forgot). There's also doggy donuts for $2.95! Coffee here always hits. I like to get the Mayan Mocha syrup in my latte, which is chocolate and cinnamon and too good not to get. This most recent visit I learned that they have whole bean coffee, and you can get a discount on your next can if you bring the old one back. Anyways, I've been going here and you know I'll be back here.

Carl's Donuts & Bakery

I've joked about the donut wars going on in Avon, Indiana as my life has taken me through Hendricks…read moreand Putnam counties quite a bit lately. Avon has at least four donut shops within 1-2 miles of each other - Parlor, Dunkin, Pana, and Carl's. Of these, Carl's is clearly the "local" shop. It has the look and feel of a gathering place. While the others do offer sit-down dining, especially Parlor, Carl's feels like a smalltown donut joint with its simple but pleasant decor, lower pricing, and comfortable but pleasing service. Carl's Donuts & Bakery is a locally owned donut shop (Pana is also locally owned, though a growing chain). Carl's also doubles as a cafe and also serves other breakfast items alongside its donuts. The major plus to this approach for a guy like me is that fountain drinks are available including iced tea. I'm constantly dismayed how hard it is to get iced tea in donut shops. I was dismayed to read Jen F's review noting poor customer service as my experience was quite the opposite with customer service being a key strength. The basics: Carl's is located in what looks like a small office complex with a mix of retail and personal service type businesses. It's toward the back. There's some accessible parking and appropriate curb cuts. There's a double entry with glass doors that were pretty easy to manage. As you enter, a dining area is directly to the front of you and to the right side. To the left is the ordering area - I think I goofed up at entry - you begin toward the back and then exit out the front path. I went in through the front, though there wasn't a line and no one said anything. The employees asked if I was ordering breakfast or donuts. I typically get 2-3 donuts and a drink. I stuck with this plan, however, given the comfy atmosphere opted to dine in. I haven't had much time to rest recently and it was nice to sit down. I felt a little out of place (everyone else was clearly local), though everyone was friendly. I ordered chocolate covered yeast donuts and a fountain unsweetened iced tea. They offer discounts, it seems to military, teachers, and first responders. The donuts had a slightly thicker yeast than some that lean toward fluffy. These were more substantial. The chocolate reminded me of Titus Bakery. The iced tea was great - no clue on brand. I could have stuck with two donuts instead of three and been satisfied. The service was a top feature here for me. They were friendly, helpful, and patient as I figured things out. I watched them easily serve a group of senior males gathering in one corner (pouring coffee, etc.). Carl's does not have a drive-thru. Their Facebook indicates they offer curbside pick-up. In future visits, I'd likely experiment with donuts. This particular chocolate is not a favorite for me. I enjoyed it, but I'd easily experiment. There's no doubt I'd return for the service. At a time when I've recently lost my last family member, it was nice to be in a comfortable, welcoming, and warm environment. It did my spirit good. I would also love to return to enjoy a meal here. Carl's wasn't packed, but it was steady throughout my visit and it's clear that Avon loves its donuts and it loves its smalltown gathering spaces.

There was a line of people waiting patiently to select their donuts when we walked in. There were many cases filled with fresh donuts, fritters, danish, turnovers and more. Two clerk were assisting customers, most of whom were buying several dozen donuts. I got a glazed donut and my husband got an apple fritter. The fritter was bigger than his head. My glazed donut was a cake donut. It was light with a perfect glaze. The apple fritter was like a coffee cake with lots of apples and a glazed topping. He shared the fritter with our granddaughters. There was plenty to go around. The cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have daily meal specials. The lady in line ahead of us said the pork tenderloin is the best in town. Pork tenderloin is only served Monday-Thursday. We'll have to come back. They have about 20 tables for eat-in dining. There is a unisex restroom. Stop #4 of the donut trail will require a return visit.
