I was horrified when I read all the one star reviews when American Home Shield dispatched Hill's last year. Today the came out for their third (different) service call and as usual, there was a Quick response, good pre visit communication. The guys that came out made a little bit of a mess but plumbing is a messy job. My kitchen sink was all messed up and they were efficient and got the job done well. They are definitely worth 4 stars on the last three times I have used them. It's unfortunate that more people don't speak up for good service and only come here to complain. read more

Inexperienced, young family members completely mismanaged simple plumbing kitchen sink clog! Did not have the most basic tools to remove a clean-out drain having only channel lock pliers that combined with dangerous Blow Torch attempts to heat the clean-out plug only served to smoke out the kitchen & almost start a fire! Asking them to use a heat shield if they felt strongly the Blow torch as even necessary. Absurd proposal for $750-1,000 to cut existing clean-out pipe & replace with new pipe the most idiotic solution! Rejected their absurdly complicated, needless proposal & cancelled American Home Shield (AHS) who always use the cheapest, least experienced companies to save them from paying for a logical solution. Called Peter Levi Plumbing & for $77 got the clean-out bolt loosened with the proper tool-see photo --& the clog snaked out thoroughly by young man who had the right equipment, a Pipe Wrench & had a great, positive attitude to resolve the clog. Bottom-line: I would NOT recommend Hills General Plumbing & its mendacious owner, Hilldebrand and his daughter in law, who rationalized the problem with false communication that was still completely wrong & off-track! read more

Mr. H. Aguilar looked at our bathroom floor and surrounding area, quoted a fair price. Our home has no crawl space so opening the subfloor, the damage was apparent. Hills General did repairs, replacements and updated piping. They cleared all drains, replaced 5 valves, leveled flooring under the toilet, tile was set today, drywall and texturing tomorrow with final touches on Monday. Quality parts, craftsmanship on all facets was outstanding. Every worker was courteous, polite and very hard working. I highly recommend Hills General Plumbing, Mr. Aguilar is honest friendly and straightforward, there was easy and informative conversations throughout this process. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. We have a gas leak at our rental property, and PG&E shut off the house gas. They told us to get a plumber to replace a hose going from the gas pipe on the wall to the stove. AHS (horrible, horrible warranty company - never use them) assigned Hills. They never answer the phone, and after ten voicemails and an email to their owner Hildebrand they told AHS that they're unable to do the work. It's a simple job - just replace the gas connection hose to the stove. They said they dodn't want to drive across the Richmond bridge. AHS then can't find another plumber on a Friday. Totally ridiculouis on all levels. Steer clear of these guys! If you have AHS and they assign hills, tell them to get another plumber!!! read more

Agree with all the negative reviews. And they will take advantage of you regardless. Thought they'd be on level after speaking Spanish to them to avoid any misunderstanding but no. Claims clog is problem. Snake and a hydro blast later, pipe needs to be replaced. Said they replaced pipe even though they didn't show me anything of that nature (old or new section). Came out to check my tankless water heater that stopped working and was displaying an error code. I gave them the error code and a detailed description of what happened. A guy shows up 2 days later with none of the information I provided. He spent 10 minutes at my house and didn't check any of the things the code indicated might be wrong and stated "it's probably the main board, I need to call tech support". He left and we haven't heard anything in ver a week. A call to the home warranty company that scheduled the appointment has proven to be a waste of time. No follow-up from Hills General Plumbing or AHS Home Warranty. I'm canceling the home warranty and will bank the monthly fee. read more

I've had my plumbing needs satisfied by Hill's Genera Plumbing here in Alamo, three times. First, he redesign my system to facilitate recirculating hot water. Second, when we had a clog, he came out to fix it. Today, my hot water quit; he showed up in an hour, repaired the problem and flushed my tank. Terrible experience with them, seemingly similar to other people going through a home warranty. They came to do a first check on the problem (leaky faucet in bathtub), say they need to order a different part, and leave. Guess what, that just locked them in to getting the standard rate from the warranty company without having to do anything else. For the follow-up, they schedule a time and then don't show up. No responses to phone messages all day. Then after I call up the warranty company I mysteriously get a text for a new appointment at the end of the week. Did they call to confirm if I would be home at that time? No, they just threw something else on the schedule so it looks like they're doing something. This is a scam business that collects $85 to do your diagnosis appointment, then figures out a way to try to charge you more than they have to. They came out on a Tuesday and told us they would be back the same night. They late that night they called to apologize, but then they wouldn't set a firm follow up appointment. Left us with the leak for almost a week and caused a leak in the living room and just said to put a fan on it. No cares for the internal damage that occurred. Such a frustrating experience. Shared they would come back and they didn't so they were upset when I didn't trust them the second time when they said they would come back. The people answering the phone weren't help either. These guys were called in from America's home warranty. I called on the 31 of December. Anyway they were dispatched to come see me on the 5th of Jan from 1-3pm all this time during the 5 day's. Tried calligraphy every day but they set up a answer machine that I could not leave messages. The day they arrived they came an hour early. That would have been cool. But they should have called. Because I went shopping. Anyways get home and they are parked in my disabled Parking at my home. Closest to the main door. There was so many othe parking spots all over the street. I bit my tongue. I let them in and when they came in. There were 2 of them. I said i had a problem with the pipes being backed up. Showing them the problem I said here it is. ZERO. This company is a scam. Save yourself the aggravation. But they got their $85 from me through the home insurance company (apparently they are good at that as I have read all the reviews below). I won't go on too long because I was so frustrated by them (three unprofessional, unskilled guys showed up 2+ hours late). They had the audacity to expect me to trust them to saw into the paneled wood of my old craftsman home to create a pipe from the back of my sink (which wasn't needed, btw--they just didn't have the right tool) and when I refused to pay them $600 for the job they wanted to do that was not covered by the insurance they said they 'stormed' off in their truck. They are CON artists, plain and simple. I concur with all the one star ratings below and would give them a zero too, if I could as others have stated. Perhaps some who gave them a good ratings on Yelp are in cahoots/friends. The comments about voicemail being full and comms was true for me too. One only has to type in their address (160 Water st Bay Point, CA 94565) using a google map page and you'll see the boarded up garage (and other tell tale warning signs) in the picture of the home where they operate, which I would bet doesn't have a commercial license. You'll see the truck too which they 'stormed off' in. I have alerted the insurance company that partnered with them and they are doing a 'contractor' review. These guys are not contractors, nor licensed or bonded (I would bet on this too). We'll see if the insurance company does this and, if not, I will find another insurance company and perhaps write my second ever negative review about a company (this is my first). I will also alert the state since the insurance company was recommended by them in my home purchase agreement contact. I will most certainly contact the Better Business Bureau about the con artists. I wish I would have researched them first. My bad. I have better ways to spend my hard earned $85 and am so glad I did not let them do the work. In retrospect the fact they left abruptly when they said they were going outside under the guise of calling the insurance company again was a blessing in disguise after reading these reviews. Addendum: One week later Hill's General Plumbing put in an order for a valve installation (that wasn't needed) and it was approved to my account. They had said that the home insurance company would not cover it and I would have to pay them out of pocket to get my sink clog fixed. I did not approve the work (for obvious reasons stated above) and now their boarded up house at the address stated above has a free plumbing equipment on my dime (or $ quota I for the year). read more

If it's possible to give zero rating, this company deserves it. They are completely unresponsive, incompetent, and mob like. Like other reviewers, the company was sent to me by my home warranty company to replace my water heater. After trying to schedule an appointment for 4 months, with repeated non responses to my calls and the warranty company, they ordered the wrong water heater 3 times. The 4th time when they finally installed the unit, they left without properly testing... leaving a leak behind, reusing old supply hose, not flushing or depressurizing the system as needed. Then they wanted additional charges for modifications that were not made. In fact, they took shortcuts where they could. Absolutely one of the worst experiences I've had. My water heater went out. First American Home Warranty chose this company for my repair. They scheduled it for 6 days out. Yes, that's 6 days with no hot water! We arranged an appointment for between 3:00pm to 5:00pm. On the day they were supposed to arrive, they stated they do not have an appointment arranged or it was arranged by mistake! Now they want 2 more days to come and inspect it. I tried calling them multiple times to confirm the appointment but their voicemail is full. That tells you what type of company this is. Super unprofessional company, unfortunately customer service is not a priority for many places of business as of late. These people charged me $425 to fix a broken piece of pvc on my water line, it was under a foot and took them about half an hour. I paid it because there was no water to the home, but talk about price gouging. The worst part was when I gave my credit card number over the phone the guy asked for my expiration after I had already given it to him, so I said "I already gave you that." His response was "don't get an attitude with me." Umm excuse me first off what professional company has employees that speak to customers like that? It took 2 days for them to service my request which was faster than the other options available with my home warranty but probably not something you'd want in an emergency. Our water heater went out on a Saturday. Opened service request with first American home warranty the same day. Got a call from hills general the next day and were able to schedule appt for the next day. Alex and his team arrived Monday morning earlier than expected. Inspected the water heater and quickly figured that the burner is gone and he will need warranty company to order parts to fix it. He was able to get on a call with home warranty company the same day and luckily home warranty was willing to replace the water heater with a new unit. Water heater was ordered the same day and in less than 2 days water heater got installed. Had to pay some money out of pocket which is still a lot cheaper than paying the whole thing myself. Very satisfied with the work done by Alex and his team. Thank you. My kids can take a bath tonight just because of you. Much appreciated. read more

Absolutely useless. We've had a clogged upstairs toilet for weeks now. Paid out of pocket to have it scoped and was told there was a clog in the line that was quite bad. These seemingly untrained guys come and are investigating a clog in our main line sewer. I'm not a plumber, but a clog in our main line sewer makes NO SENSE if the only issue we are having is with a second floor toilet. Wouldn't it clog first to a lower toilet??? or the sink in the same room as this toilet?? These guys would not listen to me that the issue was not our sewer line and that another (skilled) plumber had told us there was a large clog in this toilet's line. Instead of trying to work with me, they ran my water for 10 minutes (in a drought) then stormed off because I was trying to tell them what the issue was. Worthless. Useless. Unprofessional. This company was sent to me by my American Home Shield Warranty. They were an hour early and disrupted my work hours. They showed up with no booties on and no face masks. I asked them to retrieve both. The younger one appeared visibly annoyed by my request that they were booties and masks before entering my home. They were sent to diagnose two issues that I have with my toilets. On involved the toilet seat and the other a crack in the water basin. They lied on their diagnostic report which they refused to give me a copy of. I called their location and spoke with a man that identified himself as the manager by the name of Ethan. In their Report they stated that the crack in the basin of toilet came from "abuse" which is completely ABSURD the toilet is more than 23 years old. They also stated in their Report that the toilet seat was not covered by the warranty because it was "Missing screws" they never asked me about any screws and that not even what's wrong with the seat the place where the screws would go is broken. Due to the way that they wrote up their "REPORT" so as to say that items would not be covered by my warranty, they want to bill me over $1,500 directly. This is strictly a con. my toilets are over 23 years old! How could I abuse the toilet basin? Additionally, as stated the area were the screws go on the other toilet is cracked and that is why the seat won't stay straight. They never asked me about any screws so as to deny my insurance claim due to missing parts! The screws are in the bathroom drawer. They are cons and intentionally wrote up their Report Diagnosis so that they could get more money from me. Good thing I called AHS and they are sending out a different company. I am sure that I won't get accused of abusing the toilet again! This company is THE ABSOLUTE WORSE! read more

I do not generally give bad reviews for companies and always try to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, my experience with this company warranted a negative review. This business was referred to us by our home warranty company. This business was almost an hour late for the initial evaluation and never showed up or even called for our first scheduled install date. I then had to call them to get a new install date on the calendar. Subsequently, on each of our two " scheduled" follow-up install dates they telephoned at or near their arrival time to say they did not even have our replacement parts. They also closed out the job at one point and reported it as finished, but had never returned following the initial evaluation date. They were very spotty with answering their phone and at times their voicemail was full. Additionally, they had a terrible track record for calling us back and following through with their promises. The job was never done and after about a month of waiting, I cancelled the work order myself through our home warranty company. My overall experience with this company was very frustrating and I would not recommend them. read more

After 8 weeks of no hot water, their team coming out 6 times, never being able to make any progress, and their truly underwhelming ability to follow up to reschedule promptly, I had to call in a plea to get their most capable guys to finish the job. The individual on the phone was rude from the beginning. I told him how frustrated I was with the situation and updated him on my efforts to help create extra space for technicians (they needed an extra inch of clearance to get the tank out of a closet) he then proceeded to tell me "good job", hung up on me and would not answer my follow up call. You'd have better luck throwing your money in a dumpster fire than calling these people to "fix" anything. The first plumber they sent out to our home told us our laundry room drain pipe was damaged and needed to be replaced. Our home warranty asked them to use a camera to scope the pipe and take pictures before they would sign off on that. Hill's General scheduled 4 different appointments with us, and showed up without a camera each time. They also cancelled 2 of the appointments during the appointed window time after my wife and I had left work early to tell us they didn't have a camera. They eventually admitted to us that apparently no one at Hill's General Plumbing owns an actual camera and they would need to "rent one" which was causing the delay. Every time they sent someone out all they did was hook the water line up to the pipe and run it saying "the water blasted out the issue and it's fixed now." Despite me noting that the water backs up when the washing machine drains, and that more water runs out during of the washing machine than the water line. They assured me it didn't, and refused to stay the 5 minutes it took me to test the washing machine. Guess what, the water backup out of the pipe each and every time causing further damage to our home. On top of this, they kept closing the ticket with our home warranty saying the job was completed which caused further delays as we never heard from anyone. I've been told repeatedly that the "manager" is going to call me to help resolve my problems. It's been over a week and no "manager" has ever called me. I'm pretty sure there isn't one at this point. No one picks up the phone anymore when we call. This place is a complete scam and should be shut down permanently. read more

I am extremely satisfied with a water heater job recently completed by Hill's General Plumbing Services. Our water heater broke down and our home warranty company assigned the work to Hill's General Plumbing Services. Their technicians diagnosed the issue relatively quickly and then installed a new water heater (to code) soon thereafter. Their customer service was excellent and they performed quality work. I would definitely consider using them again based on this experience. read more
