I live nearby and I go here all the time. They have lots of snack variety, and they've got pretty much every cooking staple you can think of which has helped me out more than once when I'm in a bind. Staleside Market: I live in the area and frequent this place but NOT for food. The people here are friendly and it is convenient for people on the hill. But, stick to the non-perishable items because everything else will be expired. The only reason I decided to write this review was because they put the price sticker over the expiration date! So, I'm actually going to talk about Hillside Laundry especially since there isn't a review about it yet. My apartment washer broke so I found myself in desperate need of a place close by. The inside of the place is great: very clean, a lot of counter space, at least ten washer-dryer pairs of machines. Mostly the people that do laundry there are college students (duh) and are willing to help you out if you need it. What I discovered: The laundry place is open every day from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM (good to know). There isn't anyone who works there to oversee the place so if you're confused or have a problem you're kind of on your own. The machines are card operated using a Mac Gray card system and you can buy a new card/reload your card at the little machine in the room. The machine only takes $5, 10, and 20 bills; no singles and no coins. It's $2.50 per wash or dry. If you're like me and you've never used any type of thing like that ever (the thing ate my $2.50 and I'm pretty peeved about it because there were no directions anywhere), to use a machine you dip your card in the slot and choose the cycle on the respective machine. Do not take your card out of the slot until you've selected the cycle and the machine shows the time. Also, I've heard from the girl that I met there that people like to pour bleach in the machine to be mean, so remember to check the bleach tub before turning the washer on. read more

Hillside is pretty useful for late night Ben and Jerry's cravings, but that's about it. I don't know why it has "Market" in its name - they really don't have anything besides boxed brownie mix and ramen. I've lived on the Hill for about a year and a half, and I think I've gone to Hillside about four times. Each of these times was for Ben and Jerry's ice cream, which you can get for a dollar cheaper at Stop & Shop if you're willing to climb back up the Hill. The store is certainly overpriced. Add pretty much a dollar to anything you need, and that's the price you'll get here. They can be overpriced though, because college students are lazy. On top of this, the store is not clean. I'm not sure if their stock is ever rotated. My roommate once bought a bag of chocolate chips from there, and when she opened the bag, they were all bloomed and waxy. The only two men that I've ever seen working there are not very nice either. I've never gotten a smile out of either of them. They have some frozen foods, candy, occasionally Chobani yogurt (why?), and cigarettes, if you're into that kind of thing. I appreciate being able to run there if I don't feel like climbing up and down the Hill to Stop & Shop, but since it is such a popular place, I feel like it could use a clean up. read more

I am recommending to my son to take an Uber to another laundromat rather than waste his money at Hillside. How bad is it? Two loads of wash, two different machines. Neither spun dry so the clothes came out dripping wet. We wrung them out by hand. It cost almost $15 to dry two small loads. In one machine, I wonder if the washer even agitated - our clothes didn't smell clean when dry. And the driers... One got hot but didn't spin. We took our clothes out and put them in another drier but when we came back another poor soul had used that drier and there were their clothes sitting in the drier getting hot and going nowhere. Four machines had out of order signs on them; we identified 3 more. There are 24 machines (12 wash 12 dry). Almost a third of them were malfunctioning. And perhaps more. We made 5 calls to CSRE (Corner Stone Real Estate) Management to get reimbursed. Not one call was returned. They make more money peddling broken machines. And they know it. The worst. And for all the waste of time and money, I doubt the clothes were clean. Take an Uber and go elsewhere. read more

Do not go to this place, wish I could give less than 1 star!! The place is dirty, food is expired, and the owner is super rude. Most items do not have prices on them so he could charge you anything and he does not tell you the price, just takes your money/card. The things that are priced are overpriced. Hillside laundry is the worst laundry place in Boston. The floors are dirty and there are always machines broken. I'm lucky if I leave this place without having to rewash a load because it's sopping wet or redry a load because the dryer was broken. I've asked for a refund for machines that don't work and have never gotten a reply. Most recently, my washer door remained locked, and I was unable to open it. The owners phone went straight to voicemail. Fortunately, the management company called me back within about 20 minutes and got the door open. I will never return to this awful laundromat. read more

woman at the counter with a freckle on her lower lash line was a real b****h. she told me she didn't have any of what i was trying to buy even though the exact product was displayed in the window. she was extremely lazy and acted like ringing me up for one item was the most difficult task in the world. she wore a hideous frown on her face the entire transaction and considering i am the one providing her with business she should have been a lot more accommodating throughout our transaction. will not be here again, stick to the shell down the street to avoid terrible customer service. read more
