We have been there in the past since they were under new ownership. Not bad and an improvement over the old place. Prices about average and food was OK. Today we had to walk out (so did a lot of other people -some were so angry they left without paying- no one would take their money!!). We never even got a chance to order. After 25 minutes we gave up. They are VERY understaffed. They are closing next week for remodeling. I suggest you get your staffing under control before you invest in remodeling, because you just lost two customers who will not be returning anytime soon. I suggest you think twice before you go here. They might not be long for this world. read more

Very pleased with Hillside new ownership and look forward to the remodeling and new name. Had breakfast and lunch at the restaurant over the weekend. My server Missy was wonderful, her service was the best part of my experience. She was very attentive, anticipated our needs so we didn't need to have to ask for things such as condiments and boxes. Absolutely loved her. The food was okay, I had the veggie omelette which was a little watery. I don't know if that was from the tomatoes or maybe slightly undercooked. The green peppers were pretty raw so it would have been better if they were cooked more before adding them to the omelette. Wasn't a big fan of the potatoes, definitely prefer hash browns. I did really like the blueberry bliss pancakes but they have nothing on Wildberry's berry bliss pancakes. My friend had a chicken avocado sandwich which she really liked. The cheese curds were good too. The decor could use a serious update. Overall I did have a good experience. read more

It has been six months, so tried Hillside again to view new owner improvements. None really. No host, she was sitting at a table talking to customers. When she finally noticed us, she was practically shouting because her voice was so loud. No changes to 1970s decor and worn out tables. She continued to chat loudly with a group of 4-5 servers right in the dining room. She must be the owner. We had to ask for water, and she wanted to know how many. We had to ask for jelly, too. The food was fine, but they seem to have added hot peppers to the eggs for some reason. When will restaurants learn that diners want a calm, relaxing experience? Tone it down! read more

If you want better than McDonald's fries, this is it! I ordered through Door Dash the mushroom burger which was also delicious. The only reason it's 4 stars is because there was no coleslaw, lettuce, onion, or tomato included. The description said it included garnish and coleslaw, but those items were missing. My boyfriend & i decided to stop into this cute diner for lunch. our waitress was the sweetest and very attentive, we didn't have to ask for anything boxes and refills included. meal came with warm bread, fries, and soup of the day (vegetable today). the broth of the soup had a lot of flavor! he got a cheeseburger & I got the BLT club, both were great! we also got mozzarella sticks which pleasantly surprised us with the garlic undertones! overall great experience. read more

This place is very good. We've been coming here since 2002, and it is as good today as it was then. We mostly come for breakfast, but we do occasionally come for lunch or dinner. The front room has windows running the full length of the building giving it a bright, and airy feeling. The back room has a full-service bar. My favorites are Saganaki (flaming cheese) and any of their soups (all homemade and delicious). The owners are very friendly and service is great. If you are looking for a good family restaurant with reasonable prices, give Hillside a try. read more

I went with my grandmother for years back in the 90s and today I take my kids and it's still the same little family restaurant I've always enjoyed. They have a huge menu and the portions are generous without a ridiculous cost. My daughter loves their soup. Our servers have always been so nice. The food was good. Typical diner fare but that was what we expected. My friend had the turkey dinner. The stuffing had a sweet taste and not much other flavor. We did not like it but I am willing to let that go as a matter of personal taste. I had the patty melt. It was a bit overdone for my taste. More on that to follow. The reason for the two star rating was the service. It was abysmal. We actually asked Kim, the waitress, if this was her first day. In my mind I was wondering if she had ever even eaten in a restaurant. She said it was not her first day but she only works here once a week so she "sometimes gets lost". (her exact words) She started off by taking our drink order. I asked for iced tea; my friend had water. She comes back with the tea. We ask about the water. She says I am going to get that now. Apparently, she can only carry one glass at a time. She comes back with the water and asks if we are ready to order. I ask her what kind of cheese comes on the patty melt. She goes to check. She comes back to tell me I can have whatever kind of cheese I want. I order the patty melt with cheddar cheese and salad instead of soup. My friend orders the turkey dinner with soup. She comes back with a bread basket with two rock hard rolls and some crackers. She brings it with one pat of butter and the rest margarine. I ask her for more butter. She looks confused. I had to explain that butter is not margarine. I also had to ask for straws since she never brought them. She had the straws in her apron so we got that right away. Less than a minute later she is back asking how I want my hamburger cooked. I tell her medium. She asks if I mean medium well. I tell her again I want medium and that medium well would be over cooked. She asks me if I don't mean well done so it is thoroughly cooked. I tell he again I want medium. Since I already said medium well would be over done why would I would I want well done. It was clear she had no clue what I was talking about. Now we are waiting for the soup, salad and butter. A few minutes later she is coming out with our entrees. We asked her what happened to the soup and salad. She wanted to serve us the meals and then bring the soup and salad as side dishes. She did not know they were supposed to be served before the meal. We told her to take the food back and bring us the soup and salad. She comes back and gives me the soup and my friend the salad. She forgot who ordered what. We switch. Oh, and could we please get the butter we have been waiting for. Of course all she did was re-warm the entrees when we finished the soup and salad. The food was hot but the turkey gravy was thick from being over cooked. My hamburger ended up being medium well. We finally got the butter. Then, I had to ask her for ketchup and mustard. Fortunately, she was quicker with that than the butter. My friend decided to take a chance with a roll. It was harder and drier on the inside than it was on the outside. He left it. When Kim came back to clear the dishes we told her about the rolls. She just shrugged and said, "I know. They get stale." So, I guess even if she knows the rolls are stale she serves them anyway. One more point I want to add. Kim only had three tables to wait on while we were there. The first table was finishing dessert and already had their check when we arrived. They left a few minutes later. The second table already had their food so all she had to do was check back if they needed anything. Then, there was our table for two. We told the hostess about the service when we paid our check but she did not seem too concerned. Initially she backed up Kim about the soup and salad being served as side dishes with the meal. When I said no other restaurant does that. She backed down and admitted I was right. Soup and salad are served before the meal. My friend tried calling twice after we left so we could speak to a manager. We did not see anyone that looked like a manager while we were there but thought maybe s/he was in the back. At any rate, both times we called we let the phone ring over twenty times. No one picked up. The owners/management need to do some serious heavy duty training with Kim or get rid of her before she destroys their business. read more

I used to come here all the time with my family growing up and we loved it so today I took my family for breakfast as my parents did and we were so disappointed. On a positive note the service was great. Our waitress was friendly and checked on us multiple times. The food on the other hand was not. My husband ordered the sausage and cheese omelette and the sausage was dried out and it was American cheese. Now maybe it was just us but American cheese in a omelette??? Not exactly what he was expecting. We have always had cheddar in a n omelette and thought that was just a given. I ordered the corn beef hash skillet and it was a mushy mess. Just soggy and blah. I never once tasted any corn beef, and again topped with American cheese slices. Ick. My kids enjoyed their pancakes and the hash brown were good but not enough to come back. We just felt like for the price of the food it definitely did not deliver on any level. We come here often. Service is fantastic. Food is consistently good. Soups are homemade, and delicious. Salads are always fresh. Because I'm on Weight Watchers, I'm a little more high maintenance when it comes to ordering. They are very accommodating.
