So we went to a very beautiful church my wife and I like to visit in Libertyville. Our friends joined us there and after the maid we visited this restaurant for lunch. It's opened for breakfast and lunch . We were greeted at the door by a very sweet lady who might have been its owner. Our server was a young man named Armando very sweet and handsome he told us that he arrived 5 months ago from Venezuela and spoke to my surprise very good English, I asked him about it, and he said he learned it in the university there. The restaurant was very cozy and clean and it smelled very good from the foods cooked there. Once we settled into our table we ordered our foods which by the way was very tasty. My wife had the salmon with cream cheese and avocado, and although it was served with bread instead of the normal bagel, she said it was tasty. I had an avocado and chicken breast sandwich with fries. We both had salads as well. One of our friends had salad with fruits, and her wife had breakfast omelet with a hashbrown and bacon. We met Simon, an older gentleman who served coffee and was very polite from Mexico. I highly recommend this restaurant because of the good food and hospitality we will return next time we visit the church in Libertyville. read more

The waiters and everyone who worked there was lovely. Service was a bit slow. We had 3 drinks, a breakfast burrito, a skillet, and a kids breakfast and the bill was $80 which seems kind of insane. It was also weird that breakfast cocktails didn't have prices next to them like the rest of the menu. My veggie skillet had a piece of ham in it which I didn't realize until I was chewing and something seemed off. As a vegetarian this was very upsetting. We got here around 9-9:15 ish in the morning and got seated right away. By the time we left, there was a long line for a table. The restaurant as a diner vibe nothing special about the decors. Our server was friendly and got our drinks quickly. We got refills with our coffee and water pretty quickly. I ordered the bacado omelette and a side of the fruits and pancakes. I end up ordering The Piglet skillet with pancakes. Good amount of meat (bacon,sausage, ham). The food looked so good I forgot to take a picture till I have half done! Talkative owner of a tired dark establishment which likely hasn't changed much in fifty years. My breakfast was 'ok'. Fried eggs over medium came with a crispy edge, hash browns which tasted like everything else which they cook on the same griddle and decent pancakes. Not much love in the presentation either.... I had the pleasure of getting to know George and his staff this past week. They served over 20 of us a wonderful breakfast. We all ordered what we wanted and not only was it delicious, but it arrived in a timely fashion. The wait staff was very attentive and genuinely sought to make our visit great. On top of that, George and team catered a wedding reception I attended. The food was phenomenal, the wait staff was attentive, and what was supposed to be hors d'oeuvres was enough food to qualify as a satisfying meal. My family and I really enjoyed this place! It was our first time and we will definitely be back. I ordered the Cowboy skillet and with the first bite, I tasted the flavor. Even the pickiest one of the family really liked it after a bite. The grilled cheese was also very tasty, along with the good portion of fries. The Morning Glory omelette had the perfect blend of ingredients, with feta giving it the right touch. We also ordered chicken soup which wasn't exactly the chicken and rice taste we wanted but more like a clam chowder taste. I had a very unpleasant experience here yesterday. They are celebrating their 50th anniversary which is quite a feat in the restaurant business. They are offering customers prices each week starting with the 70s for a certain breakfast. At the cost of breakfast these days, I thought I'd try it. I only saw my waiter when he took my order, which was actually fine as it got busy and they come around with refills for coffee often. I could not get the waiter's attention to get my check, so I left a tip on the table, and went up to the register, and when he came near, I asked for my check. He quickly put something in, and I gave my charge to the surly blond woman I had observed earlier since my table faced that way. I noticed how she didn't smile or greet customers, and how she gestured to an elderly couple to stand back and wait while other customers paid. So I wasn't impressed. She quickly processed my card, and was whisking the copy away (apparently no receipt), when I said, "Just let me take a peek at that." I wanted to make sure of what I was being charged since I never got a check. Suddenly, she started lecturing me that I should tip on the original amount the meal would have cost, and how the owner was giving this discount...I was so taken aback. I immediately said, "I know that." She continued, and I said, "I used to own a restauant, I know." STILL she persisted (and not in a good way). I'm not sure what this woman was projecting onto me, but it had nothing to do with me or who I am, and since when does any restaurant lecture customers on how to tip? I finally got so exasperated, she obviously Isn't a good listener, that I said she was being obnoxious. Which she was. In all my years, I have never encountered such a bad attitude at a business. She ruined any goodwill of the owner regarding the anniversary celebration, intended, in part I am sure, to gain some new customers and to honor their "regulars.". This is your typical family restaurant, probably Greek owned, serving a wide selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals and snacks and is open Sun. to Wed. 6-3 and Thur. - Sat. 6-9. We were in the mood for soup and salad for lunch and knew this kind of diner would fit the bill and it did. The Lunch and Dinner Menu has everything from salads, sandwiches, and burgers to seafood, Italian and broiler dishes. My wife chose the Julienne salad ($15.00) and I selected the Cobb salad ($14.50). We could select any dressing from the usual and they were brought out on the side. Both were huge and either could have been split by two people. Looking at my pics, you'll see no shortage of all the good stuff on these salads. I particularly enjoyed the plentiful amount of blue cheese crumbles and thick bacon bits on my Cobb. The salad orders included a bowl of soup and the soups of the day today were chicken noodle and navy bean. We opted for the chicken noodle and it was delicious with thin noodles. A basket of crackers, breadsticks and butter came out with the soup. We saw many seniors dining and most brought home enough for another meal. They do offer cocktails, beer, wine and more. Parking is plentiful in their own lot. Once we were inside we realized we had been here before long ago and again, it was good. You will not be disappointed. read more

I was up yonder in the northland in Libertyville & met my sister at Liberty Restaurant. I ordered the Bacardo Omelet. The omelet was excellent w/avocado, 3 fluffy eggs, bacon, cheddar & jack cheese w/a dollop of Sour cream. This came w/a either hash browns or fruit (I chose the hash browns) & either pancake or toast (I'm not much of a pancake dude so I got British muffins). My sister ordered eggs Benedict. She said the bread was soggy and so it was, but having never ordered eggs Benedict before I guess I would have never known unless she said the bread was soggy. They were ok w/a lemony sauce. She got the fruit side which definitely wasn't very fresh. I guess she should have asked for a replacement dish of fruit. THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN I HAVE HAD TO DATE. Fresh chicken well breaded tender and moist and cooked in clean oil with not side tastes an overused oil can get. I would have given it a five but my wife had Greek chicken it was very good but the gravy had an slightly odd taste. Might have been a lemon juice vs a fresh lemon which is her preference. Light as air blueberry lemon pancakes with marscapone lemon drizzle and fresh blueberries and an amazing veggie skillet ...with plenty of leftovers for tomorrow....George, the owner and his wonderful staff couldn't be more accommodating and George even let me try his special pineapple and brown sugar pancake (delish BTW!) on the house. The food here is just average but the service was quick and friendly. The menu items look sound delicious but lacks a little flavor. The portion sizes are huge! Got the caramel apple pancakes. The texture was a little mushy. The caramel sauce did not really enhance anything. After adding syrup, the taste was fine. The sausage as a side could have used a little more seasoning. My husband had the bourbon skillet. He said the sausage was spicy but the hashbrowns could have been a little more crispy. Overall the food was average. As soon as we walked in we were greeted respectfully and seated us. The waiter showed up with glasses of water first thing. I love that. All the waiters were very pleasant and attentive. It didn't take very long for us to get our food and oh man! Delicious!! Great presentation as well. Everyone has a job and they focus on that. The staff have uniforms, I find that professional. Knocking a star off for having to wait quite a while for our food to be prepped and delivered to the table. And they didn't come around often enough with coffee refills. Yes, it was late Saturday morning, it was busy. But a 35 minute wait after ordering is kind of unacceptable. The waitress apologized, saying there was a large party that was getting served first. Anyway, the food is good. My dining companion and I couldn't decide between the Cajun skillet and the Dutch crepes, so we ordered both and split them. Glad we did. Both were very good. Big menu, lots to choose from. My bacon was crispy, just the way I ordered it. Toast was slightly burned, but still edible. On a rare date night with my hubby, having just dropped our kids off in Libertyville for a party at Austin's Fuel Room, we were craving diner food for dinner. Since it's hard to pass through Libertyville and not stop at The Liberty Restaurant for a home cooked meal, we stopped in with hungry stomachs. We've been to The Liberty on weekends during the day with our kiddos, but let me tell you, the evening is a whole different story. Once seated, we looked around, and we were the youngest people in the restaurant...and we're old! The scene was out of a movie with large tables of locals dining together. They all knew each other, and it was really quite lovely and small town in feel. I overheard conversations about church the next day, so and so's grandaughter being at this and that college, and more family story sharing. I couldn't help but think that would be us in a few not-too-distant years. That being said, if you want a glimpse into your grown-up future, stop in. There's a reason for all that great local love, because eating at The Liberty is like dining with family. The owners are lovely, and so is their food. Once seated, which took us a pretty long time, you'll be faced with the cracker basket. Oh, I am just a huge sucker for sesame bread sticks dipped in butter. After devouring those, I ordered up the When In Athens Omelet: a three egg white omelet with tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese. It was exactly what I hoped for. Came with a side of hashbrowns and toast or pancakes. I bargain for $10! As far as the service, there was a lot of chatting going on, and it took forever for us to be seated and waited on.
