I'd heard for years that Hillstone was a Coral Gables staple, but had never made it out to try. After my TikTok feed kept blowing up with their crispy chicken sandwich, I finally gave in... and now I get the hype. That sandwich absolutely delivered. The bread was fresh and soft, the chicken was perfectly crispy and not too "chickeny" at all (IYKYK). Easily one of my new favorite chicken sandwiches. My friend and I also shared the deviled eggs, fries, and creamed corn - all of them slapped. She ordered the caesar salad, which she loved. I tried a few bites and felt it had an unexpected umami, almost Asian-inspired twist. It was definitely unique, just not my personal favorite. We grabbed seats at the bar and the service was top-tier. Every bartender and server was super warm and attentive. While we were there, you could tell regulars kept popping in and greeting the staff by name, which I think really says something about the place. It has been a while that I've been to Hillstone but a few weekends ago, my friend told me to join her there for dinner and I did. Since it was Saturday night, it was full. Even though we had reservations, we had to wait over 30 minutes. Once we were sat down, the service got much better. To eat, we shared the grilled artichokes, spicy tuna roll, barbecue ribs, Thai chicken salad and tres leche. Everything was tasty but my favorite was the Thai chicken salad. It was a huge portion and not a plate you can find at many restaurants. The tres leche was a perfect end to a delicious dinner. To drink, I ordered a Stella, which was refreshing. The service at the table was great. We were there for hours talking and not once did we feel rushed. Joined another couple a Friday evening ago. Writing mostly about the great service. Definitely enjoyed the Deviled Eggs and Emeral Kale Salad. Also their special that evening of salmon. So plan accordingly lol We went for lunch and the restaurant was super full. I see why the reservations were always booked. We had to go with the classic spinach and artichoke dip. The dip and chips were both super hot so we knew it was fresh. This is one of those appetizers where you can't help yourself and end up eating a ton of tortillas chips. I ordered the chicken sandwich as my entree, which definitely met my expectations. It was a bit hard to eat but well worth the struggle. I really liked the fried chicken with the coleslaw within the sandwich. The coleslaw gives it a freshness that balances out the fried chicken. The fries were addicting. Came here for Christmas Eve. Had set reservations almost two weeks in advance. We had called to try to ask our party of four to be at one table, but they split us in two separate tables. Although we were at separate tables the food was delicious and the service was nice. The location was clean and the staff attentive. I had a delicious iced tea. We offered chips and salsa to start. Had the famous French dip for dinner with cheddar cheese. It was delicious. So good! This is my go to every time I come here . To finish dinner we had tres leches for dessert. It was really good too. Had an excellent lunch here today. Had the off-menu tostones and guac as apps. Guac was super fresh, as well as the chips. Also shared a pressed sushi for the table...impeccable. Had the Tuna Mango Roll as my entree which was delicious and FRESH! Perfectly ripe mango. Came with spicy mayo. Loved it. Hillstone thinks it's running a 3-star Michelin operation. It's not. Management has taken what used to be a genuinely good restaurant and buried it under a pile of arbitrary, customer-hostile policies. My family and I experienced this firsthand -- I arrived a few minutes late to join my own table and staff refused to seat me, then told my family they couldn't order food or drinks either as long as I was sitting there. Not a hiccup, a choice. The food and ambience are still good, which is the only reason this isn't a bigger disaster. But you can't out-plate bad hospitality. Rules this rigid and this tone-deaf don't scream "elite," they scream a management team that's lost the plot. Hopefully some real competition nearby knocks the ego out of this place before it takes the rest of the restaurant down with it. read more

Excellent spot for lunch or dinner in Miracle Mile. Service is outstanding, starting with the host/hostess station, very courteous and accommodating, and then the waitressing staff is very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. The decor of the restaurant is also very attractive, with lots of wood, leather and warm lighting. Excellent atmosphere. It gets very busy during peak lunch and dinner times, so it is better to make reservations way ahead of time or show up very early. The restaurant opens at 11:30 and if you get there at around that time, you can get a table without reservations. Parking is a bit complicated, but there is a paid valet service just a few steps from the restaurant, and also a public parking garage about a block away. The quality of the food is always great. My favorite appetizers are: home smoked salmon and the grilled artichokes. And for entree, I really like their Ahi Tuna salad with mango and the Red Ruby Trout (which sometimes is replaced by Arctic Char and this one is also delicious). Their wine list is short, but has options for most common grape types; however, a nice feature offer by the restaurant is that you can bring your own bottle of wine and pay a very reasonable cork fee of $25. It's been an eternity since we had a meal at Hillstone and what impresses me about Hillstone is their longevity in the Coral Gables food scene. Located in the corner of Miracle Mile and Le Juene Ave you will find Hillstone with their longs lines trying to get a table. The bar here is legendary, but simple and luckily my wife and I were able to snag two seats there. The menu here consist of Americanized sushi rolls and many bar food. So we decided to ordered their spinach and artichoke dip first, which was amazing, tasty and gooey. Then we ordered their spicy tuna roll, Osaka style pressed tuna, and their ahi tuna tartare. All the fishes dishes were very fresh and delicious. For dessert my wife was dying to try their Tres Leches and we ordered it and were surprised how good it was, very moist and drenched in a milk based sweet sauce. As my husband drank his martini, she would bring a frosted glass and transfer the martini so that it never got warm. We decided to give the Brussel sprouts a try and they were delicious! How Hillstone can make a vegetable a desireable starter is beyond me. I always want to order a different dish, but no one can make a ribeye like Hillstone. Their Hawaiian ribeye is the most mouth watering steak I've ever eaten. It's got a sweet char, is buttery soft, melts in your mouth, and always cooked to the perfect temperature. My only disappointment was finding out that they no longer served it with a loaded baked potato. I have been to Hillstone many times before and I am surprised that I have never wrote a review but here it is. Hillstone is one of those solid spots that you can always count on. Food and service is usually on point, but it is always very busy so if you are starving this is not the place for you as there is probably a wait. That just goes to show you how much people like this place though. This past time I got the chicken sandwich, which I don't believe I had ever got and it was delish and a very good portion. All the sushi selection is yummy as well. And although I did not have dessert this time, the tres leches is to die for. Hillstone Coral Gables - Disappointing Experience with Host/Manager I have always considered Hillstone to be one of the most consistently upscale and well-managed restaurants in Coral Gables, which is why what happened today was so surprising and disappointing. We arrived at approximately 5:31 PM as a party of three and were told there would be a wait of 1 1/2 to 1 hour and 45 minutes. That was understandable for a busy evening, so we patiently waited. About 45 minutes later, additional members of our family arrived and were told the wait had increased to two hours. Again, we accepted this and continued waiting. However, close to 7:00 PM, our family members decided to leave because of the long wait. As they were walking out, they were suddenly told to stay because they were going to be seated immediately. We were shocked to see this happen while we had been waiting since 5:31 PM. My husband approached the person managing the waiting list, Jule, who we later learned is a senior manager, to politely ask about the situation. Unfortunately, she dismissed him and pretended not to know what he was referring to, even though she was the one who had just seated our family members. The interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional, which was extremely disappointing given Hillstone's reputation for high standards and customer service. This left us wondering: Is there a structured system for managing the wait list, or is seating simply at the discretion of whoever happens to be controlling the list that evening? The experience felt inconsistent and unfair. That said, I do want to recognize Kevin, who took the time to listen to our concerns and genuinely tried to accommodate us after the situation occurred. His professionalism and willingness to help reflected the level of service Hillstone is usually known for. We have enjoyed Hillstone for years, which is exactly why this experience was so disappointing. Overrated, I tried making a simple reservation for Father's Day very early 7 PM the day before, and they don't even pick up the phone. This is a very cocky and pretentious attitude, I am from the city of CG , i've been in just about every restaurant in the city and this one is always an issue from the time you step in, the only advantage is their geographical position in downtown Coral Gables other than that is just another restaurant so we decided to hit the restaurant at The SETAI hotel for a beautiful experience in SOBE, ...Hillstone doesn't even allow making reservations online on any platform, which is very arrogant, and no it doesn't give you a prestigious name it just makes people like us not wanting to ever go there , This place is just basically for tourist who passed by the city and see the fancy corner, there are many very good restaurants in Coral Gables to choose from as well as nearby in Coconut Grove. A surprise date night at Hillstone! When we first arrived we had to wait past our reservation time. However to our surprise at the end of our meal our waitress informed us that to compensate for the long wait time, an item from our meal was comped which was very generous and unexpected. I have yet to be dissatisfied with a meal I have had here. The food was and is always so delicious! To kick off our date night he ordered an Old Fashioned and I ordered the margarita. The drinks tasted great! The rim of my glass for my margarita was salted nicely which I appreciated as I love a good salted rim. As an appetizer we ordered two Thai Tuna Rolls which is hands down our favorite roll there! The rolls always come out so fresh and we love how much Tuna is in the roll compared to other restaurants that don't provide as much sustenance in their sushi rolls. For our entree we ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye with French fries and the Filet with mashed potatoes and broccoli! Our steaks were cooked perfectly and were very tender and melt in your mouth delicious! The French fries were fresh and crispy, the mashed potatoes were flavorful and the broccoli was steamed well and was nice and soft to eat. The ambiance is a darker (lighting wise) more romantic scene with a candle at each table which was a really nice touch! The service was great. On Sunday at 3pm. I presented myself at the front desk of the Hillstone restaurant in Coral Gables to make a reservation. I was told the wait would be 30 to 40 minutes, so I left my name and number and waited. After about 20 minutes, I checked again, only to be told the table still wasn't ready. When I returned for a third time, a different employee informed me that my attire didn't meet the dress code--something never mentioned before, despite my two prior visits. Rather than offering a reasonable solution, the manager suggested I change clothes. It is inconceivable that after such a long wait, this is how a loyal customer is treated. I felt completely disrespected and disappointed by such poor service. After yesterday's experience, I am profoundly let down. Only took my entire life to finally visit a Hillstone restaurant and i'm beyond sad I didn't go sooner. It is a busy spot at pretty much any hour of the day, so usually a small wait. However found two seats at the bar and was able to sit right away! Pressed Sushi and the Kyuri Roll were both amazing starters being light enough not to ruin your entree. Keeping things from being too heavy of a meal, we swapped out the entree sides for Tabouleh and Kale Salad. Scottish Salmon was grilled to perfection and still super moist. Think the star of the show though is the Hawaiian Ribeye Steak... WOW. Request a medium rare and that's exactly what I got. The marinade or glaze whatever is on this steak is beyond delicious, again, WOW!!! Never once had to ask to refill a glass of water or for more wine. Came here for the first time on a Saturday for lunch. Finding parking in downtown Coral Gables is an adventure in and of itself. We got very lucky and parked a block away and walked. We did actually arrive for our reservation a bit early and they were very kind to see us early and we only waited five minutes. There is no real waiting area here, so be prepared to either stand or sit by the fountain. The service overall was fantastic by our waitress and she was quick prompt and anticipated needs and was on her game. The sushi here is outstanding and I thought I would never say that about this place, but seeing the standalone sushi bar which is visible, not only from the bar, but also from the waiting area is quite impressive. The rest of the food was OK however, the cheeseburger was a little disappointing because the cheese quite frankly just solidified on the burger and you could actually peel it off the burger as opposed to seeing it melt. Considering the price point, I would say this is a solid place to eat, and I would come back and try other items as well. I used to think Hillstone in Coral Gables on Miracle Mile was a reliable spot for a nice meal, but after my recent visit, I will never step foot in there again. The food took forever to come out, the sushi was mediocre at best, and my steak was overcooked and lukewarm. The service was slow and scattered, with our waiter disappearing for long stretches. But the absolute low point was the terrible manager, Kevin. When I politely asked to speak to someone about the issues (long wait, cold food, and a ridiculous upcharge on a simple side), Kevin came over with the worst attitude I've ever seen from a manager. He was rude, dismissive, and basically accused us of being difficult customers. Instead of trying to fix anything or even apologize, he doubled down and made us feel unwelcome in a restaurant that's supposed to be "upscale casual." The level of entitlement from management is completely unacceptable. Save your money and your evening -- go anywhere else in Coral Gables. This place is a classic. I have been coming here for years. I grew up coming here with my dad and now it is one of my go to's when I am in the area. It is located at the corner of the street and there is street parking as well as a parking garage that is walking distace from this location. When you walk in, you walk right into the bar area. When is it crowded you have to ask the bartenders to wait for a bar seat or you can see the host for a table. I almost always sit at the bar though. I came on a Monday afternoon around 5 PM. I was surprised that the bar was empty but it was probably becuase it was a rainy day in Miami. I was hoping to catch happy hour, however they do not do happy hour at this location which was kinda a bummer. Either way I wanted a cocktail so I went with my go to the crush. I love how refrehsing this drink is, it is the perfect blend of sweet from the grapes and it mixes so well with the mint. By the end of the night I ended up having four of them. I met with a friend and when she got there she tried my drink and ordered the same thing. I also like how when they do martini's here they have olives that are stuffed with goat cheese. Now the food, we were both hungry so we just went straight for the main course. I had to go with the burger and she ordered the pan asian noodle salad with chicken. I ordered my burger medium well and it was perfectly cooked. I love how it comes with fries and all the toppings. It is one of my favorite burgers in town.
