The service was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was not very full and there was a pleasant ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For starters we got Tara's Tuna and it was not my favorite spicy tuna, wouldn't order it again. The crab salad was good, it was nothing too special but it is not bad. As for the rolls, the Brie roll was amazing! I love the creative addition of Brie, it went really well with the torched salmon. The Holt roll was also amazing, it is really light and fresh and doesn't feel too heavy since it doesn't have rice. The sexy mama roll was also good as well as the salmon and spicy tuna temaki.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Sat at the bar during a super busy Saturday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was attentive although it did take a bit long. The nigiri platter was exceptional and super flavorful. My friend ordered a mango roll and was also super satisfied.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A nice sushi bar in the middle of coconut grove. It is beautifully decorated inside and you can tell that they put a lot of effort in making an aesthetic experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is totally passable and they have a decent size happy hour menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I actually came here for happy hour and had a pleasant time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really appreciated the waiters who would refill the water in my glass the second it was running low. The food was fine, edamame needed more salt and the sushi was good. I was a little disappointed to see that there were no vegetarian options in the happy hour menu but that is somewhat the status quo for sushi bars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, a nice place to have a meal. A bit overpriced even for some of the happy hour options but very beautiful and with great staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Varsol is the spinoff Coconut Grove version of the Miami Classic, Akashi. I highly recommend it, especially the Happy Hour specials. So many unique rolls and beautifully presented. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The spot is nestled in the Grove, and it is so pretty and modern on the inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely underrated in my opinion. Of course, they also serve classic rolls like the Alex #2 for the loyal Akashi fans.

Everything we ordered was delicious - you can absolutely tell when sushi is fresh and high quality. The reason for the one-star deduction is service, specifically the bar and drink timing. We ordered our drinks immediately after being seated so they would be ready by the time we returned to the table. When we got back, no drinks. We then ordered appetizers - still no drinks. Our appetizers arrived, we finished them completely, the table was cleared for our entrées, and our drinks still hadn't come. By the time they finally arrived, we were already eating our entrées. If the restaurant had been slammed, I would understand. But this was an early Friday evening. The entire front section was open, with only a few tables seated in the back. There were five bartenders behind the bar, yet instead of working, they were huddled together watching the game, while others were chatting and giggling - not doing their jobs. Our server also wasn't very present, so there was little help resolving the issue despite us politely reminding staff multiple times. I'm generally very understanding when it comes to hospitality - I've worked in the industry myself and genuinely respect it. But basic service standards matter. If a table has been seated for 10 minutes without a greeting, water, or drink order, that's already a poor start. And when a guest calmly brings up an issue, it should actually be addressed - not acknowledged and then ignored. For the price point, this level of service makes the experience feel not worth the time or the money. With better service, this easily would've been a five-star experience, and I'd come back immediately. Instead, when I think about returning, I'm left wondering: the sushi is great - but is the inconsistent service and long wait really worth my time and money? I genuinely hope to see an improvement in service, because the food is excellent and this has the potential to be a great spot.

Super delicious I really loved the appetizer and you gotta try the flan. The service 10/10

Looking for a place to eat during the mango strut event in the Grove. Yelped the restaurants in the area and our group (5) voted for sushi. Our waiter Jose or "Junior" was very hospitable. The food was awesome. Their dipping sauce was better than plain soy sauce. The happy hour cocktails were rocking. Tuna tartare super yummy. We cleaned our plates!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Passing by in the Grove and heard some of excellent 80/90s music with a full patio of customers enjoying the evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My husband and I walked a few doors down and both looked at each other and let's go back to Varsol! We opted to go inside thinking it was quite empty, however to our surprise the back area was a happening as the patio. Issac immediately to care of us albeit he had a party of 8, and several 4 tops and a few couples. He managed it like a boss! We got a French White wine, saki recommended by Issac "winter mist" both outstanding. Followed by a tuna tataki app ( highly recommend) and a Sexy mama roll and the spider roll! All superb and large orders. I'm certain the other raw rolls are good I just have to wait a bit to try those after I get the clear thumbs up . The evening manager and or owner thanked us on the way out which was lovely and we expressed our gratitude to have had Issac as our server! Def be back when we're here.

Wednesday October 9 2024 at 05:20pm Bartender could not be any ruder. I was the only patron here and was treated so poorly. I don't care how good the food is poor service is the death of restaurants No wasabi, ginger and or soy was offered? By the way bartender sorry my service wasn't important enough to distract you from watching the Phillies/Mets game! Lastly greet your customers like they belong and not as if we are an inconvenience to you!

Food was great but the service was disappointing. The staff did not acknowledge, food came before the drinks and server did not follow up to close us out. Hope to give another try

The quality of the food was ok. We liked the Gyosas , but nothing really got our attention. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went early, so the ambiance was a bit empty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good.

I've been to Varsol multiple times, mainly for their crispy rice (Tara's Tuna). It's amazing, one of the best in Miami. The servers are always friendly and the ambiance is relaxed, yet classy. I am always greeted by the server within a couple minutes of sitting down. I usually start with the Tara's Tuna and then try a new roll for my entree. Last time I tried the Brie Roll which was essentially a salmon avocado roll topped with smoked brie. Not sure I would order it again, but it wasn't terrible. Varsol also offers no hard liquor. All of the "cocktails" are made with their house sake blend. I wish they had a slightly better alcohol list for the elevated level of dining they offer. Overall, if you're going to visit Varsol for one thing, go for the crispy rice. It's no joke.

This poolside bar offers a shaded area with bar stools as well as poolside service. Cocktail menu is small, but for a reason. Ingredients were carefully selected and you can tell effort and thought were put into crafting the drink selection. I sampled 3 of the crafted cocktails on the menu. Each drink stood out and had its own unique flavor profile. They are light, but strong at the same time. These are excellent drinks if your looking to hang by the pool or share some laughs with friends while taking in the breathtaking views of coconut grove, the ocean, and Miami epic skyline. We did order 2 appetizers, the conch fritters and hummus. The conch was crispy and perfectly cooked inside, the aoli sauce complimented it perfectly. It came with 6 fritters and they went down very well. Not greasy or under filled. The hummus was delicious and the baked pita bread complimented it well. Sip Sip is an oasis in the desert. Each dish was very good, the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, the fries were crispy and good, and the flan was probably the best I've ever had. I enjoyed a very good glass of Malbec reserve with my meal. La Cabrera also offers a $39 lunch special. Ambiance was charming and the service was also very good. A restaurant that still comes to mind months later is usually doing something right, and this visit confirmed what we loved about our first experience. We made reservations without any issues a couple of days before. The restaurant was clean, bright, and had not filled up yet with the busy Sunday family crowd. Upon being seated, we were provided with the regular menu and the Miami Spice Lunch menu. The Miami Spice Lunch, which has now become a daily Executive Lunch special, is a standout value. The portion sizes and the quality of the Argentinian steaks speak for themselves. As a group, here's what we ordered: Starters - Ham and Cheese Empanadas - Morcilla - Grilled Provolone Each starter delivered exactly what you'd expect from an Argentinian steakhouse. The empanadas were warm and flaky, the morcilla was rich and well seasoned, and the grilled provolone came out bubbling and perfect for sharing amongst our table with the restaurant's complementary bread basket. Entrée: - New York Strip Steak, 12 oz This was the only cut of steak we ordered. It was cooked to each of our desired temperatures and seasoned simply, letting the quality of the beef speak for itself. It is clear why La Cabrera has a reputation as one of Latin America's best restaurants. Sauces on the side, which included a BBQ sauce, and a chimichurri, were left for our choosing and were used for the side dishes more than anything. Sides: - French Fries - Jasmine Rice Both sides complemented the steak well. The fries were crispy and large in size. My father-in-law, a cuban man who's very serious about his rice dishes, thought the jasmine rice was very good. Dessert: - Dulce de Leche Ice Cream with Cone - Dulce de Leche Pancakes The ice cream was smooth and rich, while the pancakes were finished with a sugary powder coating that was impossible to resist. This lunch reinforced why La Cabrera continues to be stand out in a crowded field of steakhouses. Between the consistency, generous portions, and the value of their daily menu specials, it's an easy recommendation whether you're bringing family, hosting someone from out of town, or simply looking for a great lunch in Coconut Grove.

The Beso de Fuego cocktail is a must-try if you like spicy tequila passion fruit drinks, and the dates, frito mixto, and salt cod croquettes were cooked beautifully. Unfortunately, they sat us in the most uncomfortable table and chair set up in the restaurant. In the middle, they have these very short tables with uncomfortable stools and chairs that make dining awkward. Not to mention, that two of these tables are so close together that my friends and I were bumping elbows and touching the backs of the other dining guests in the table right behind us. And, to make matters worse, we not only had to be in an uncomfortable and tight space with the guests behind us, but we had to endure their yelling almost in our ears the entire time because the music in that restaurant is extremely loud. Music can be loud, but it is to the point where you cannot even hear yourself when speaking or you can only hear the other guests yelling. Suggestions to restaurant management, get rid of the awkward, short tables and chairs, or ask guests when they're making the reservation if they want to sit in that type of setting. Also, you may want to separate those type of tables and stools because they are WAY too close for comfort. And, consider bringing down the music level a few decibels.

This place is BEAUTIFUL, it is also HUGE, there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, both offering a really nice ambiance. We sat inside and loved the decor and vibes. Our server was very nice and fun. Service was great and the bussers and servers were very attentive. We ordered scrambled eggs with Gruyère, one with a side of baguette and another with an everything bagel. The potatoes were the star of the show, they were perfectly crispy and so well seasoned. The eggs were a bit underwhelming and had a little bit of an odd aftertaste but they were still good. We loved both the baguette and the bagel. We also had a side of bacon which was super flavorful but could've been crispier or fresher. One of the things to highlight were their prices, which are extremely reasonable and just amazing for the area and quality of the food. This is such a great find! I've been going to Koko since it opened, and until now I've always had great experiences…read more Unfortunately, my recent visit during the Mexico World Cup match was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. Before going, we called the restaurant to ask if they would be showing the World Cup games, and we were told they would be showing all of them. Based on that, we expected a good viewing experience. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. There aren't enough TVs, many of the views are obstructed, and we actually had to move to the bar just to see part of the game. Even then, the music was so loud that we couldn't hear the match at all. When we asked the manager about it, he told us that ownership's instructions were to play music instead of the game's audio. That was especially surprising considering this is a Mexican-owned restaurant and the match was a Mexico World Cup game. The biggest disappointment, however, was the service. To be fair, the restaurant was only about half full, so this wasn't a situation where the staff was overwhelmed by a packed house or unusually heavy demand. I was there with two female friends. I ordered a martini while my friends simply asked for water. The bartender reacted as if asking for water was somehow an inconvenience. We weren't even served chips and salsa until we repeatedly waved down members of the staff and specifically requested them. The bartenders consistently ignored us. My friends waited nearly 20 minutes before anyone came back so they could order their martinis. We later ordered guacamole and the Leña skirt steak. The guacamole arrived promptly, but the steak never did. When we asked another bartender to check on it, he looked in the system and told us there was no food order entered at all. This was unbelievable because the original bartender had described the dish, asked how we wanted the steak cooked, and appeared to take the order. He simply never entered it. When we complained to the manager about the missing food, he told us the kitchen was already closed but that he would "make an exception" and have the steak prepared for us. That response really upset me because this wasn't us asking for special treatment--it was the restaurant trying to correct its own mistake. I told him to simply cancel the order. He then said not to worry because he wouldn't charge us for it, as if not charging for a meal would somehow make up for the experience we had just endured. I declined the offer, but he responded by saying he would bring it anyway and that if we didn't want it, we could just leave it there. To me, that response was even more dismissive and completely missed the point. Throughout the evening, the bartenders were inattentive, dismissive, and consistently rude. Their attitude completely overshadowed what had always been one of my favorite restaurants in Coconut Grove. By halftime, we had simply had enough. Instead of continuing what should have been a fun night, we decided to leave the restaurant and go home, where we watched the rest of the Mexico match in the comfort of my home. Sadly, that turned out to be the best part of the night. I'm writing this review because I know Koko is capable of much better. My previous visits have always been enjoyable, which made this experience even more disappointing. However, if you're planning to watch a World Cup match there, I would strongly recommend choosing another venue. While they may tell you they'll be showing the game, the viewing experience is poor, the game audio is replaced with loud music, and based on our visit, the service was, without question, the worst I've experienced there since the restaurant opened. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because Koko has always been one of my favorite restaurants, and I'd like to be able to recommend it again. Unfortunately, after this experience, I simply can't.

We had a seat at the bar where our small dog was also welcome, and each started with a cocktail, then ordered the parrilla special to share. Everything was very good and we managed to somehow finish it all aside from 1 piece of steak, so not bad. We were offered a digestif of limoncello or dulce de leche. We chose the limoncello and it was the perfect end to our meal. It should be noted that, on the night we came they had a different wine (a pinot noir from Spain) rather than the one usually offered with this special. The server allowed us to sample the wine that usually comes with the parrilla and I'm glad they had the other bottle available on the night we were here as we much preferred it. Overall the Parrilla Tuesday special is a great value IMO and since their meats are grilled in a charcoal fired Josper Oven, they were very flavorful and perfectly cooked.
