Hillstone is an upscale chain restaurant. You would never know it unless you've been to other ones around the US. This place is a great place for a nice date night or dining out with friends. Guys please note no hats in the dining room. Not sure if you can wear them at the bar or not. The service is top notch! They really do not miss a beat at all. We started with spicy tuna roll, spinach artichoke dip, and a Cesar salad. All very good and my favorite of the 3 was the artichoke dip. I forgot to take a photo of my French dip , but that's my go to. It comes with plenty of meat on it and great to dip in the sauce and the horseradish. "Dress Code Theater at Hillstone Denver" Hillstone Denver delivers its usual decent food and service, but be prepared for a side of arbitrary fashion policing. I was asked to remove a "jersey-style" shirt -- not a sports jersey, not fan gear, not sloppy -- but a high-end designer shirt with large numbers on the back. Apparently, numbers themselves are now incompatible with the ridiculous shiny polyestery black shirts and ties they make their staff wear in the middle of the day. The irony is rich: the shirt was well-tailored, clean, and clearly intentional -- and an overcoat to A $1900 Prada tshirt - I think far more refined than half the outfits I saw around me. Yet Hillstone's dress code seems less about elegance and more about enforcing an outdated, vague aesthetic that mistakes control for class. If the goal is to maintain ambiance, perhaps the rule should focus on presentation and quality, not whether a garment resembles something a referee might wear if you squint hard enough. Certainly the shiny ugly black server outfits do not fit the casual look and ambiance of the place Goof food and atmosphere. But the dress code enforcement feels performative and borderline absurd -- like being denied entry to a museum because your glasses are too modern. Hillstone, if you're reading this: sophistication isn't threatened by numbers. But it is diminished by pretension. read more

We went to Hillstone over Labor Day weekend to celebrate my birthday. The staff was very accommodating, service was excellent, and food was very delicious. We arrived a little early, so we took drinks on the patio - my only note here is there needs to be additional service - there were quite a few old cups and plates around that needed to be bussed. But the setting despite the flies, cups, and plates was very nice. The hostess and everyone involved in the service was nice and accommodating. For drinks we got the crispy martini - deliciously perfect. I did try the vodka grape drink but I sent it back - it tasted of pure sugar and no grapes. For food we started off with the osaka press and we really held back from getting a second order of it - we love this "roll". Then we had the spinach and artichoke dip, it was so good - I am still thinking about it. Then we got the iceberg wedge, that salad is so good. My husband got the french dip, he really enjoyed it and I got the tuna tartar and it was just ok, needed salt and less onions. But we were already stuffed by then. Honestly - everything is so good here, it's really hard to choose. We love coming here for special occasions, especially when they nail it - like they did on my birthday. read more

Be cautious if you are black. If I could give my expensive a negative review I would. I have never experienced a General Manager as rude as Michael Ortiz. The staff are very friendly and provide good customer service, it's the GM. My husband and I are frequent customers of this restaurant. Each time we experience Mr. Ortiz (this is not the first) he is very rude and unwelcoming. When requesting a sushi roll that we order EVERY time we dine here, he tells us they aren't able to make it the way we ordered it. We tried to explain that we order the same sushi roll every time we are there (which is quite often) and would he please ask the sushi chef, they are familiar with my husband and I and our order. He refuses to even ask! He never greets us when we are in the restaurant and walks past our table as if we aren't sitting there. We have noticed tagged he greets those that don't look like us. As one of the very few African Americans in the restaurant, it makes me wonder if it's because of the color of our skin. A GM should be a model of customer service not the opposite. read more

My review I've been a long time, patron of Hillstone. One of the things that I've always enjoyed is that the staff knows the regulars and makes people feel like part of the family. There is a new management at Hillstone that made it an unpleasant experience. The team is always been willing to customize meals, according to preferences and allergies, but the new general manager, Jacqueline, has made it clear that they would only do it for me this one time and never again it's sad to see a place that you've loved transform into a corporate bureaucracy. read more

The food isn't good. It's mediocre and fits the clientele well. For a restaurant that hates when you bring kids, like visibly disgusted by little ones, it's amazing they hire children to run the host stand. It's a restaurant full of nos. I had a 4:45pm reservation for myself and two clients who I was meeting in person for the first time. I arrived early, around 4:30, to ensure I was there ahead of my guests and checked in with the hostess. I politely asked to be seated in a booth in the bar area, as it appeared to offer a nice setting to get drinks with some clients. Despite the bar area having multiple open booths, I was informed that they do not seat incomplete parties...I understand that many restaurants do this however, I explained that I would appreciate being seated ahead of my clients' arrival, given the nature of the meeting. After some time, another staff member approached and offered me a seat at a distant communal table, which felt unsuitable for a business engagement. I reiterated my request to sit in a booth and was told that they were reserved for "diners only." I assured her that I was more than willing to order food if that was a requirement to sit at that table. Eventually, I was seated in a booth, and I took out my laptop to prepare for the meeting--only to discover that the restaurant neither offers Wi-Fi nor permits laptop or tablet use...I get it if it is disruptive to other guests but I can't be the only one who had ever been here for a business meeting...interesting but that wasn't the worst part. When one of the hostesses (who I had previously interacted with) brought waters to the table, she spilled all over and walked away without an apology or an attempt to clean it up...making it feel very intentional, especially because I had my laptop out on the table. I don't know why the employees here feel so high and mighty and exhibit such rude behavior but I do not recommend this place for any occasion. There are plenty of other accommodating and friendly restaurants in the Cherry Creek area! read more

Normally I really like this place. They have a yummy chicken sandwich. However we walked in at 11:45 with loads of open seating and were told we had to wait 30-35 minutes. They took our number to text us when the table is ready and NEVER did. We ended up leaving and going to Local Jones which honestly did us a favor. Not going back here any time soon. Everything we ate was fantastic and exceeded our expectations! Deviled eggs - so scrumptious Artichoke - whatever is in that remoulade is magic Smoke salmon - this was quite a large portion of such delicately flavored smoked salmon. It was not tough or overly salty. It was perfect. French dip - by this point I thought we wouldn't be able to finish an entree after all the appetizers. But I was wrong. The French dip was soooooo good. So tender. Perfectly flavored. Cooked just right. We couldn't stop eating it. Service was fantastic as well. Downside is the restaurant is ALWAYS busy. We were quoted an hour wait before 5:30 on a Saturday night, and about half an hour wait at noon on a weekday. So make your reservation before you go! read more

Came here for dinner tonight. It was pretty busy for a Sunday night. Service was good at first, but then they became a little less attentive but overall still good. We found a hair in our spinach dip, but they comped it and brought us a new one, so that was good. All the food was really yummy and we actually ordered more food than I have pictures of. But my favorite one was probably the salad and yeah I would recommend this place. They're always really busy but if you're in town and are looking for a nice place to go for drinks and dinner. Ok , the food was great and the atmosphere was lovely, so what could possibly be so bad to warrant a one star review? Well here it is. Have you ever had a server grab your plate while you were eating? Well Hillstones is famous for this little slice of rudeness. No "may take your plate" or "may I wrap that up for you", they just attempt to snatch the plate right out from under you, mid bite. I finally told the manager that if it happened again I could not be held responsible for accidentally cutting the hand of the person who was grabbing my plate. This restaurant wants you and out. No lingering over that $75 piece of beef. Woof that baby down and get the hell out! Based on their consistent lack of subtlety, I am waiting for the day Hillstones takes my order, charges my card, brings me a to go box and asks me to leave. This restaurant isn't flashy or in a hip neighborhood, but it is consistent, with a diverse and well-executed menu, and a professional staff to round out the experience. The sushi is always fresh and the rolls exploding with flavor. Last time I was in for Saturday lunch and had the veggie burger, made in-house. Terrific! Make reservations! I was shocked at how packed Saturday lunch was, but my friend, who's a regular, knew to book a reservation. I really like the mid century interior, and have never been there when it's too loud to have a conversation--kind of the point of going out to dinner for me. Two thumbs up for Hillstone! read more

The drinks were delicious, especially the martini which we heard lots of praises about. Good variety of choices on the menu. Heard such great things about this place and was so excited to try it!! To my surprise, they did not have valet, but they do have a huge parking lot to park in- so finding street parking wasn't a concern. Only thing confusing was when walking through the door, you have to go to the other side of the restaurant for the host, and finding the host was a little hard cause there's not a host stand either. We came in a little late and was able to get a table without a reservation. It's very nice and dim inside. Perfect for a nice date night. But there is also a nice ambiance at the bar if your by yourself. We started off with the house-smoke salmon and honestly this was my favorite thing we ordered. It was delicious. The crispy bread with the savory spread and topped off with the salmon was the perfect bite. It was light and refreshing. This was better than the actual salmon we ordered. The Scottish salmon had a pomee pureee on top that was okay. It made the entree look more appealing but on the side would be better. To our surprise the side of broccoli was bigger than the salmon. The side of smash potatoes was nice and soft and creamy. The Hawaiin ribeye, was a huge steak, I wish they offered other sizes. When I was told that it the size I assumed there was a bone, but there wasn't. The marinate on the ribeye wasn't my favorite. In my opinion it ruined the steak. For the filet the same pomme puree was on the steak as well- which would of been better on the side. The kale salad was nice and refreshing tho. The two roll of sushi we ordered for an app per our server recommendation was okay- nothing special in my opinion. Our service was great, very attentive, just had a confusion in the beginning who brought us water and asked for our drinks and ID us as well- we assumed was our server, when we tried to actually order. I love this place so much it is my first stop from the airport after I land. Service is impeccable- staff are incredibly warm and friendly. As I am usually there by myself, they make me feel welcome like family. They never rush you. If you can get them (they aren't always available), the grilled artichokes are to die for!! But the thing that wakes me up at night with a midnight craving- the Thai noodle salad (I get mine with chicken). Beyond words. Just the right amount of dressing. And it has a little bit of everything in it- it is colorful and well balanced. My only (very minor) complaint is that all their red wines are from the US. For those of us who can't drink US wines, it's a bit of a disappointment but they new have non-US white wines which go perfectly with the noodle salad. I highly recommend dinner here. read more

If it were up to me I'd never leave this review. Multiple trusted friends of mine have informed me that the Hillstone Hawaiian ribeye is the best steak in this hemisphere. Wish I could confirm, but I can't, and I'll tell you exactly why. Stroller. Ever heard of one? Ya.... Newborn. Ever heard of one? Her name is Lainey. Say her name. Because you made her cry for an hour when you refused to let my wife roll her to our table. Then, after we put her seat in the booth, the manager (James.. you know who you are)... anyway, you refused to let her baby seat remain in the booth, and demanded the stroller be taken away to the kitchen. So, one question for James and the upper management? Where's the humanity? Is life not more than medium rare steaks and appearances? Only time will tell. Having not been to Hillstone in many years I was very impressed with the whole experience. I was able to book a reservation through the website and then we were greeted when arriving. I requested a booth for a birthday lunch and was seated at one. Perfect. I had a water with lemon and my Mom had an iced tea. The waitress was great in refilling the water. My only suggestion is to provide the same sized glasses for water as other beverages. With the cost of any meal at Hillstone it's a small jab for not paying for a tea/soda/alcoholic drink to only give a small glass. The artichoke is a fun appetizer to start the meal. It is smoked and served with remoulade. They give you four quarters and it was more than enough for 2 people (took some home). The French dip is divine. It is perfectly sliced prime rib on a delicious bun with a side of au jus and coleslaw or French fries. I tried the coleslaw and it was good but nothing unique. I'll try the fries next go round. The Thai steak & noodle salad was good but a bit overdressed. A good portion for lunch or dinner. I wanted to highlight the GM Will Dasco who went above and beyond during our meal. The parking lots have some space but it fills up quickly. There is street meter parking as well. Definitely will come back soon. read more

If you like Cherry Creek Grill ( yeah like who doesn't??) you will like Hillstone Restaurant. Same restaurant group and similar menu items. Plus.....Hillstone has a great parking lot. That is huge in Cherry Creek. Service is superb. Food is always on point. Menu is varied and interesting. Drinks are fantastic. Great cocktails. Wine list is concise but excellent...you got Kistler on the list you are aces by me! Place is always pretty busy so that is a testament to how good it is! I absolutely had a fantastic/funtastic date dinner at this high-end restaurant in Cherry Creek tonight. This restaurant always stood out in this north Cherry Creek neighborhood whenever I drove by it. Dining at this place for a romantic evening tonight was such a treat. The amazing food we consumed and the medium bodied red wines we drank, it was a nice way to elevate our midweek mood so that we could keep going for the rest of the week. Here is the quick breakdown of what we had: The appetizer spicy tuna sushi roll: since my date didn't want to have anything such as mayonnaise marinated fish, we asked the waiter to have it made in a very simple way. We weren't disappointed when it came out. It was just right; it was very simple where all we needed was soy sauce with some wasabi for it. I like rolls that are not over-the-top. Our red wines: I was truly impressed with Pali Pinot Noir which is a tap wine. As many experts say, tap wines definitely have fresher taste which I tasted myself, too. It was also smooth with no strong acidity to it. As a wine enthusiast, I'd go back to the restaurant just to have this wine. Our main dishes: He got the French dip and I got the trout. Both of them were excellent. I was simply amazed as to how big the trout was. The broccoli and the mashed potato were an excellent accompaniment to brighten the whole dish. We also noticed the impeccable attentiveness and professionalism all the workers manifested towards everyone in the entire dining room. Although we started our dinner early at 4:45pm, the restaurant was more than half full when we arrived. By the time we were done with our dinner, the place was packed. This is a restaurant that knows what restaurant business is all about. Yes, I called this restaurant high-end and yet everything on the menu is reasonably priced despite the fact that it's located in expensive Cherry Creek neighborhood. Generally speaking, I always have a ok dining experience. I really like bringing guests in and it's relatively close by. However, my guests are always disenchanted with service and the food. Service generally makes the guests feel uneasy with no particular thing they do, maybe just upset we didn't spend enough up front? either way, its enough to sometimes make us do some restaurant hopping for another spot. overall very pretty place.
