Honestly I couldn't really pay attention to anything else because I ended up having to eat so much white rice to balance the salt. What was the most salty? The vegetable Biryani. Please don't order it. Opt out for curry instead because you can actually control how much you eat with the rice. The spinach cheese curry was good. The samosas were probably the best. There are many reasons for me to rate Himalayan Hut as just ok. 1) For the price, the servings are small. We ordered a chicken tikka which came with 4 small pieces of chicken, about 80% of a single chicken breasts, and nothing else for $14. 2) Chicken tikka masala, also $14, came in a very small container. Could not be shared as it was so small. 3) After ordering, I was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived at 35 minutes and was asked to wait until the food was ready, another 15 minutes. 4) I ordered food for three people, it came in one bag. I asked if everything was there and they read off my order and they said it was all there. 5) I live about 20 minutes from the restaurant, got home and was missing two orders of naan. How do you forget the naan? 6) I called back and was told I would have to come back (40 minute round trip if I didn't have to wait again) for the naan. I declined and they would not refund my money. They said that I could come back and get it or nothing. From reading the reviews, it seems that might be a thing. I suggest that you double check your order before leaving the restaurant. read more

This was a spur of the moment lunch. I was in the St Louis area and had a craving for Indian food. This is a very quiet little place that serves a hot Indian lunch buffet. The food tasted authentic for the most part. The chicken curry and saag chicken were my favorites. I also enjoyed the mango and lemon pickle. Just visited for lunch today and was deeply impressed with the atmosphere and cuisine. The space is ample and would be great for hosting a family event or large gathering. The lunch buffet is very affordable and offers multiple options for each type of meat. The secret, in my opinion, is in the sauces. I had the lamb chop and jumbo shrimp platter. Honestly, that is the best rack of lamb I have ever had. The jumbo shrimp was very tasty and the sauce on top made it almost mouthwatering. I would also recommend the Masala Tea, as you won't find this item at many places. Hari, the owner, was very hospitable and his attentive staff was quick to offer excellent customer service. I did order 30 mins before they closed but I would still expect the same quality regardless I ordered 4 things garlic naan, a cauliflower appetizer, extra basmati rice and chicken tiki Marsala. I have never experienced such bland food from an Indian restaurant. The naan was thick and chewy with very little garlic to taste. The cauliflower was mostly breading and very bland. Their rice is just that, rice. No spice or flavor not a thing and the chicken tiki Marsala I could have been eating pasta at an Italian restaurant. The sauce was flavorless, 100% could have eaten it on top of pasta. As I sad sadly disappointed . I'll think twice about trying another new Indian restaurant. Thumbs down. read more

I've ordered Himalayan Hut from DoorDash a few times, and each time I've been disappointed. If you like spicy Indian/Nepalese food, you should go elsewhere. The spice level is so tempered down (I'm assuming to suit the palette of American customers), that much of the flavor is lost. I've tried a few different dishes, and they all taste like they were seasoned with air. During these days of COVID-19, we wanted to support a local restaurant and ordered takeout from Himalayan Hut. Pickup was easy and contact-free, and the food was really hot and everything was delicious! We had the steamed Momo dumplings, aloo paratha, veggie samosas, chicken tikka masala (the medium spice was perfect for us), chicken tandoori, and raita sauce. We've been on the hunt for a new Indian restaurant since our previous favorite closed. This place was pretty darn delicious, and the food was ready on time and super hot. We ordered a huge variety of food. The naan, samosas, veggie korma, raita, and saffron rice were very good. The chicken korma, which we ordered for our kids, was a little dry, but they didn't mind. My husband loved the butter chicken, but I thought it was a little too salty and not spicy enough. The papadum was also a little salty for me. The roti was different than roti I've had other places, but it wasn't bad. I also got a mango lassi, which was different than I'd had before. Super sweet and not much yogurt in it. Overall we really enjoyed our meal. Portions were generous. We are looking forward to trying the buffet if/when they reopen. read more

This HAS to be the BEST Indian food in St. Louis! It's affordable, the service is TOP notch, and they KNOW what a level 10 spice level should be! Yes, yes, yes!! I went here on a Saturday because I wanted to try something new. I was pleasantly surprised. They sent me right to the buffet and the rest was history. The food was so good. I went up there about three times and I wanted to go more if my stomach would have let me. It was so full of flavor, spice and just goodness. I must say that we are in no way experts on Nepalese cuisine, but we DO KNOW what tastes good. They offered an array of selections to tantalize the taste buds. So glad to have this type of cuisine close to my house! I'm a big fan of Indian, and was glad to hear that Himalayan Hut was opening. Otherwise I would have to drive 20 minutes to get it. I've ordered takeout twice, and both times it was good. My favorite is the muttar paneer. Paneer makes any dish great! The naan here is top notch. Definitely one of my favorites. Prices are reasonable, service is fast and friendly, and food is tasty. It's maybe a tad more spicy than I'd prefer for the "mild," which is what I'd change.
