A feast of delights was delivered to us from Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen. We were so happy for this delicious medley of flavors. We ate and enjoyed: Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Indian Delights (think veg Samosa), Palak Paneer, Sherpa Dumpling Chicken (Momo) and Tandoori Chicken. We asked for the dishes to be a mild level of heat, and they were, and the flavors shined through. We've dined in person and service is always lovely. I wanted to try out an Indian Buffet while back in Chicago, and saw some fantastic reviews about Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen in highwood! However, when I got here, I was sadly informed that they were not having the buffet anymore, but my Grandma and I still decided to eat here! I tried ordering the Goat Thali set when I saw it on the menu (because it would be the closest thing to a buffet), but I was yet again informed that they did not have the Thali available, which was really disappointing. My grandma ended up ordering the Lunch special today, which included butter chicken, rice, mixed vegetable curry, dal makhani, naan, and a few raw vegetables. I ordered the lamb biryani, a dish that I had been very interested in trying for a long time. The lunch special was a very good sized meal! Everything was delicious and well flavored, and nothing was too spicy (which made my grandma very happy :) ) The lamb biryani was delicious! You could see the cumin seeds and taste all of the spices that were cooked throughout the rice, and the lamb was super tender that you could break it apart with a fork! It was absolutely delicious. We also ordered a side of garlic naan bread, which was to die for! it was so soft, and it paired perfectly with all of the dishes! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to tryout Himalayan/Nepalese/Indian food, as the menu is very extensive and there is DEFINITELY something for everyone! The only reason I can't give it 5/5 stars is because I was really hopping for an indian buffet or a thali as there website and menu said, respectfully. read more

The BEST Indian food in the north shore. I've ordered from this place many many times it's just sooo good. The butter chicken is succulent, bursting with flavor, nan bread freshly cooked to order, biryani rice has a ton of fresh spices, all of the menu items we have ever ordered have been divine. Honestly would not recommend. I was expecting more from this restaurant since it had pretty good reviews. There are TONS of better restaurants for Indian food, I would not waste your money here. The paneer makhani was loaded w food coloring (hence the extremely bright red color). It tasted diluted - the dish was not creamy or flavorful at all. The garlic naan was surprisingly good. The waiter was difficult to understand (seemed like he was mumbling the entire time) and he didn't check in on us a single time after our food arrived. The vast majority of Indian restaurants serve basmati rice with the curry dish. To our surprise, our curry arrived without rice! We had to hunt down the waiter to order saffron rice and when it arrived we were disappointed again! It had 0 saffron flavor and again it was very obvious food coloring had been used in the rice. To add to this, when we sat down we realized the tablecloth and chairs had stains from previous customers which is quite gross. Lastly, the restaurant's website also states there is a lunch buffet available on the weekend - there was no lunch buffet. All the claims on the website include the food being flavorful, fresh, and authentic - unfortunately, I don't think this restaurant's food was able to display any of these qualities! read more

This place was such a pleasant surprise. I have ordered from ALL the Indian restaurants in the area and this has been the best. The Malai kofta was AMAZING. The sauce was SOOOO good - creamy with an amazing flavor. The palak paneer was excellent and the butter chicken was delicious as well. Unlike other places I've ordered from, this place really gives you a good amount of food - the palak paneer was loaded with large cubes of paneer and the butter chicken had a ton of chicken in it. This is in contrast to another popular Indian restaurant nearby that I recently ordered from that literally gave us 6 small chunks of chicken in our $20 butter chicken dish. We were a party of 5 first time diners. We were not disappointed. The service was warm and friendly. The food was brought out in a timely fashion. Every dish was savoury and absolutely delicious. We ordered more than we needed so we could try many dishes. We thought we'd have plenty to take home. The food was so good that we had very little to take home. Here's what you need to know: the flavors for the goat curry were spot on. Not expensive, but not a bargain by any stretch. Terrific curbside delivery experience. Ordered a traditional goat curry dinner entree ($16) and it was a medium sized portion. The flavors were delightful and intense without being spicy (just the way I like it). I ordered it medium spiced and it was perfect for my taste because I cannot handle the heat from Chilis. Pumping reaching the parking lot, I called them and requested curbside and my call was answered within a few seconds. The food was brought out immediately thereafter - no waiting. Overall, based on this carry out experience, I will continue to patronize the restaurant. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the meat - while super flavorful - wasn't the freshest tasting. For somebody who eats Indian food and goat meat regularly, one is well aware that there are many grades of meat, and this will on the moderate quality side read more

Last night we ordered from Himalayan and here is what I would say. First, it came to us crazy fast, I think in about 45 minutes delivered. Second, the food was fantastic. The Nans were bursting with flavor and perfect. The tiki masala was great. Chicken tikka was outstanding. Cooked perfect and flavorful. Looks plain but soo good. We also ordered the newari special chhoyla which is a boneless chicken Nepalese dish and was tremendous. We also got lentils and mixed veges and samosa which were excellent. We had a very nice takeout dinner from HSK last night. The tikka masala chicken dish was really wonderful and full of flavor. A chickpea dish was good and the palak paneer was super tasty. I also ordered lamb vindaloo, but I made the mistake of requesting it spicy and I think I should have just let them cook it the way they normally do. It was delicious but too spicy even for me and I like spice. There was plenty of food to go around with leftovers. We will definitely be ordering again in the future. read more

Outstanding dishes - an in my experience far tastier than the typical Indian cuisine we've had locally. I'm particularly impressed with their Kwati, a traditional stew from Kathmandu, Nepal. They were pretty understaffed and packed on Valentine's so if you visit on a normal day you'll be served a lot quicker. Their complimentary papadoms were on point! We started with the Momos and Sambar Soup for appetizers; the soup was amazing and flavorful. The momos however were not hot like I expected it to be, and the skin was too thick and chewy. Our entré were Lamb Curry and Thakali Thali set with goat meat. Both were AMAZING - meats were cooked to tender perfection and spices were on point, flavorful, and nothing was too salty. I used to eat there almost weekly when owned by the prior owners. It has taken a real nose dive. The Sikh kabob is so salty it's inedible and tandoori chicken is also salty and has some sort of smoke seasoning that ruins it. The nan is pasty and not at all like it was baked in a tandoori oven. Until they change chefs I'd give it a pass. I ate there a month ago and it was the same as today. I ordered from there today to give them another chance since I spoke to the owner last time about the issues and hoped for improvement. Any restaurant can have a bad day. Wow! Having eaten all over Devon St and several other downtown Indian restaurants this jewel is leaps and bounds above all. I also might add while I'm not from India this has over the last two decades become my favorite cuisine (apart from prime steak and Alaskan crab, but who doesn't love them). We ordered take home delivery (palak paneer, dal and Chana masala) and I'm impressed all the way down to the mint chutney. I have not tried others in the lake forest area but it's going to be very hard to call knowing the party that was just thrown in my mouth. I don't live here full time but those that do around here are lucky. Try getting this in AZ. Fat chance. Only criticism (which writer would be worth without something to pick on) was the naan could have been a bit more crispy. But I don't with oven at my disposal it's no problem. Food, service, prices were great when we came as a group of 10 in February 2020. Specifically asked about curbside pickup today due to coronavirus. Yes of course was the answer. Placed the order. Was told 30-40 minutes and to call when I arrived. No problem. Came exactly 40 minutes later. Called 7 times. No answer. Geared up and went inside. A bunch of people -- distanced of course -- waiting and bitching. A guy would run out of the kitchen, announce a name, put the bag on the bar, and hear people scream names at him. The name was irrelevant. The answer each time was, "I'm sorry. Let me check." Rinse and repeat every 5 minutes. So after 10 minutes outside, I've now been waiting over 20 minutes inside. That's over an hour since placing the order for 4 things. Still no ETA. No other restaurant has given me BS estimate like this. Nice people. Good food. Compete incompetence. read more
