I work at a federal agency and their food truck came to our office for a food truck day last week. I don't know why the Yelp page says they are closed. Their food truck at least is still open. I got Tibetan momos, spicy potato salad, and a can of Coke. The total came to about $18 as I recall. The momos were excellent--they were similar to Chinese dumplings, but were spicier with Tibetan spices. There was a choice of chicken and pork, as I recall. I got the pork dumplings. Stopped by the Taste of Vienna specifically because the Himalayan Soul Foods truck was going to be there and I wanted to try momos. I ordered the pork momos with mild sauce and really liked them! I can only compare these with other dumplings and these were solid. I do prefer a soy based dipping sauce but the mild tomato sauce was decent. Arguably the best dumplings in DC! Unlike some other dumpling trucks, the momos from here are stuffed to capacity, shaped distinctly from one another (chicken vs pork vs veggie) and each has a distinct flavor. The sauces are the kicker. The mild sauce is my preference as it enhances the momo flavor without being overpowering, but some would definitely love the spicy sauce ..or a blend of the two. The owner clearly takes pride in his work and wouldn't serve anything that he wouldn't serve his own family...which is another star in my book. It also goes to show that a limited menu can be a strength when all the i's are dotted and all the t's are crossed. I will be making many returns. Venturing out to the long line of food trucks you never know what you might find . . . . and this was a pleasant surprise. I've kind of gotten an affinity for dumplings lately and these were some of the best. I had the pork and the first thing I noticed was that they were slightly larger that the ones I usually see. The pork and chicken was average based on my taste and preference. *** However, my wife enjoyed the flavor and so did my two year old daughter. I really wanted to like this more. If I liked spicy things, I might feel differently. The dumplings don't taste different than any other Chinese style dumplings that I've had. The dipping sauce was different than what you'd get at a Chinese place, but even the mild was too hot for me. I ended up creating a soy sauce and rice vinegar dipping sauce. My friend recommended that we try this place out for lunch earlier this week. I had never tried Himalayan food before, so I was a little on edge because I didn't know what to expect. Essentially this food truck specializes in a steamed dumpling dish with either chicken or pork. I got the pork ones and it was delicious. They had a good portion of meat in the center and the wrapper was steamed well and not doughy. The meal was served with a mild sauce. It really reminded me of a Latin American flavor almost reminiscent of Peruvian cuisine. The dumplings were served hot, so by the time I got to my desk they were the perfect temperature. I recently received a flyer for a free lunch from TwentyTables, a new mobile app in DC. Apparently, TwentyTables provides users with $6 lunches from participating restaurants and food trucks in and around DC. There are about two dozen participants and I rolled the dice and tried Himalayan Soul Foods. Finding the food truck was simple enough as TwentyTables provides real time location for its food trucks. Order was even easier, as I simply selected the Pork MoMo with Spicy Potatoes, and the time I was going to pick up my order. I walked over to the pin on the map in NoMa at 11:00, easily found Himalayn Soul Foods and let them know that I had a TwentyTables order to pick up. Sujit, the owner, was friendly and had my meal available then and there. I decided to eat my dumplings while they were still hot, and they were amazing. The six dumplings and the side of potato salad was more than filling. The pork filling was moist and had the perfect blend of ground pork, onions, cilantro, ginger, garlic, and seasoning. The wrap was the perfect consistency, holding in the filling and its juices, but with a lightness that does not overwhelm the dumpling. NEW Take out | Lunch | $30-50 I recently came to the cultural food event in Virginia on August 26, 2023. I came with my family looking for some food and a fun time. I decided to fraternize your truck. Your Nepal truck as the lines were extremely long. I waited in line for 30 minutes. The degrees outside was over 90° and it was a very hot day. I did not bring any water with me or anything to drink. Therefore I needed some liquid. When I got to the front of the line, I ordered one pork Momo, two chicken Momo and two waters. Which equaled out to be $50. When I asked a man for water, he told me all he had was warm water there was no cold water for me. I then said I will take anything because I'm extremely thirsty. As I waited for my food, I noticed that several people of Caucasian descent were given cold water out of a cooler. I am of brown American dissent and I found that to be racial profiling. I waited for several customers to order food and noticed that all of the water was cold and frosty coming from the cooler not where my water was from. I asked the man at the front why wouldn't I be able to get cold water? You gave me hot water and he told me that the other customers water was not that cold. It was I found that to be very disrespectful and I'm slightly hurt by that as the temperature was very hot and I paid my money to fraternize your business. I feel that if you do not want to cater to the black and brown community then you do not need to set up your truck and shop to sell to our community. Was able to sample this jem of a food truck as it sat outside the Fair Winds Brewery in Lorton. I was hoping there would be a food truck when I showed up and I was not disappointed. They specialized in dumplings and although they are good for my waistline, I was super excited they had a veggie option. They had a meat, meat, and a veggie choice. Score!! The dumpling wrap was steamed just right. The inside veggies were a bit too crunchy for me but it was still delicious. I asked for the spicy side sauce and it was tasty and flavorful. Legit pork momos! Dumpling skin to pork ratio was solid (momos are on the thicker side of dumplings by nature) and the pork was well seasoned. Spicy potato salad wasn't that spicy but so refreshing! They are such scrumptiously plump dumplings, who wouldn't love them? I ordered the pork momos my first time here and they were filled to capacity. This is one of my favorite trucks for a quick lunch. The traditional pork momo (dumplings) are quite good. The dumpling does not fall apart easily. The two dipping sauces are good, but be warned: the hot is hot. I do take the hot on occasion. The potato salad also has a bit of heat too. A good combo overall. I would also recommend the Himalayan iced tea, which has cardamon and ginger. However, you need to get to the truck early enough or they could run out. I have not tried the vegetarian dumplings yet. read more
