It was our first time here and probably last. Unfortunately the food fell short and was just okay. The hand pulled noodles did not look nor taste hand pulled. When you order hand pulled noodles you expect the slight chewiness and texture that they are known for. The salt and pepper pork had a battered coating much like that of sweet and sour chicken and not the thinner version you get elsewhere. The salt and pepper taste were lacking. The xiao long bao was probably the only thing we really enjoyed. Service was speedy and the food came out fast. Unfortunately there are too many other restaurants for us to visit to come back for just a meh experience.
Food quantity is the best. Every single dish that we ordered is shareable and delicious. So pricing is not that bad considering that everything is shareable. Our total came up to $58.62 after ordering 1 boba, 1 appetizer, 1 soup, 1 XLB, & 1 fried rice. This food quantity would have been enough for 3-4 people to share depending on how much you eat. Service is a little lacking when it comes to checking on you but if you flag a server, they'll attend to your needs immediately. Ambiance is an authentic mom & pop Chinese restaurant. Big tables, shareable dishes. TIP: If you like condiments such as siracha or hoisin, you have to ask.
(Kari's Rating 9.9/10) Came for lunar new year with a friend, came right about 6 PM and got seated right away. Ordered two orders of the pork Xiaoling bao. This has to be my absolute favorite place for soup dumplings, I would take this place over your triple crown, and QXY. The trick is eating these soup dumplings before the bottoms give out and the soup explodes as you have to eat them a little bit fast.
Hing Kee is definitely worth a stop, but just know you might have a bit of a wait. The wait was longer than we would've liked, but the restaurant isn't that big, so I totally understand how it can back up during busy times. Once we were seated, the restaurant was standard looking and clean. The food made up for it. The egg rolls were super fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned with a great crunch. The General Tso chicken was the star though, really flavorful with a nice balance of sweet and heat, and there was this bright hit of orange zest that made the whole dish stand out. Overall, great food and I'd come back, I'd just plan ahead and expect a wait.
Hing Kee has a huuuuuge menu, but I only wanted dumplings because I wanted to eat at other places too. Ordered the pork xiao long bao and the shrimp & pork dumplings in szechuan chili oil. Didn't get much of that soupy goodness with the XLB because each one was unfortunately leaking already before I even touched them. So all in all, the dumplings were good, but were they amazing? No. I was disappointed, but still liked the dumplings even though there was no soup in them. Service was whatever and the table we were sat at was a bit dirty. The Vietnamese coffee was awful too. I figured it wouldn't be good as I wouldn't order something Vietnamese at a Chinese place, but husband really wanted coffee. Don't order it haha
This place needs to be more popular!! The food is heavenly! The food was so good, I didn't take pics of everything cuz I got really busy eating The flavors were dancing in my mouth! I had a couple of vegetarian items- mapo tofu and friend eggplants. My family had a few chicken dishes and each one loved it all. The table next to us got some fried rice and the aroma made me hungry immediately after finishing my dinner. I know what I'm getting next time. This restaurant is in the middle of China Town, so parking is always a challenge, but put in the effort and get here cuz it's worth it.
This restaurant is located in Chinatown. It is a very small establishment, seating is limited. We sat down & placed our order pretty quickly. We ordered the chicken dumplings and combination fried rice. I also got a brown rice, green tea. The combination fried rice came out first it wasn't fresh. It was served to us a bit lukewarm. Decent size dish, it can serve up to two people. The rice was very mid in flavor. It lacked the traditional fried rice taste. We requested chili oil to savor our food. The chili oil added a good heat to it. The chicken dumplings were excellent. You do get quite a bit. Me and my partner shared them and had a few left over to take home. My brown rice tea was excellent nice and light green tea flavor with a nutty rice undertone. The cleanliness of the outside area where we all eat at was pretty up to par. However, the bathrooms were disgusting as soon as you walk back there before even entering the bathroom it smells atrocious. I walked into the women's restroom. It was a pigsty. I saw something floating above the door doorway and it was a roach caught in a spiderweb. It doesn't even feel safe to wash your hands in there it is that dirty. They need to do something about that because that is a representation of how they are treating their kitchen back there because it is right next to the kitchen. I did feel some kind of way after eating and seeing that but Hopefully they get their bathroom together other than that I did enjoy my experience here. I might come back because they have so many great options on their menu and I'm interested in trying a few other things. The service was good. They accommodated us intended to all of our needs.

I wanted soup dumplings while in Chicago and found this spot while searching online. Nate and I walked in around 8 pm on a weekday and were able to get a table right away. The menu is huge, but we were focused - we got an order of pork xiao long bao and shrimp toast. Service is no frills and efficient. The dumplings came out steaming hot and they were full of pork. A few did stick to the basket and ripped, so that was a little sad, but they were flavorful and tasty. I loved the shrimp toast - it was crispy and savory, and covered in sesame seeds. I would definitely come back for more soup dumplings and other dishes. The portions for main items looked huge, and it would be a great place for groups.
Food: Szechwan Style Stir Fried String Beans - your standard string bean dish and how you'd imagine it to taste. wasn't mind blowing but still good and good shareable portion. Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings - soupy and flavorful! came out just how like my soup dumplings to be. i love to eat this with chili oil or vinegar! Xiao Long Bao Chicken Soup Dumplings - yummy if you prefer chicken as your protein and it's also laid on a bed of cabbage. soupy and flavorful as well! Stir Fried Soy Sauce Flat Noodles - flat noodles are on a more soft side and the beef isn't too salty (a problem i ran into at some other places serving the same dish) loved the veggies with this as well. also a good shareable portion Service: decent service here. very straightforward! Ambiance: cozy and causal chinese restaurant vibes in the middle of china town! nice restaurant to stop and eat with others.
Yeah, generally when I'm in town, I do like to come over here and visit. I'm a creature of habit and I know there's other places to try in Chinatown but I really come here for about three or four dishes. Today was no exception. I opted for the egg rolls and the Chinese broccoli and beef lo mein with the soft noodle. It was a quiet Friday afternoon due to the severe weather so it was nice not to have to wait. Service was friendly and helpful. It would've been a great day for any of the noodle soup bowls. Both the eggroll and broccoli beef noodle dish were excellent. I ended up taking the leftovers home. I will definitely come back when I visit. Known for their soup dumplings - I did not have them this time, but they are really good as are of the scallion pancakes.
Great service, not so great soup dumplings. I really wanted to like the xiao long bao here, but sadly every single one of them came broken at the bottom so the soup leaked out before I could even taste it. We asked the waitress if we could get another batch in case this was a faulty one. Same issue with the next one. Unfortunately I can't recommend their soup dumplings. Everything comes with onion says server, but menu does say comes with onions. You get more onions on this food than meat. Never knew rice comes with onions didn't know steak comes with onions. Orange chicken didn't comes with onions chicken nuggets didn't come with onions. Didn't get a plate refund or fixed for this mistake. Pictures will say everything. There's lettuce not onions on everything. Can you fix this problem for everyone. Again don't say everything has onions if not everything has onions
When deciding to visit Chicago I knew I wanted to visit China town and indulge myself in treats I can't find at home. I wanted to test out Hing Kee's soup dumplings because it is a family restaurant and they make them fresh daily. We got pork and crab. Both were delicious but I do have to say they were both similar in taste. My husband ordered a bowl of hot and sour soup which he loves and I think is just ok. Hing Kee's version of the soup is unique and delicious and get better with each bite you take. I would definitely come back and try the noodle soups that are made with hand pulled noodles. read more

Used to be my favorite restaurant in the city - I'm from Toronto and lived in Chicago for a few years for schooling and discovered this restaurant with a friend. My favourite dish has always been the hand pulled noodles with fatty beef and enoki mushrooms, second would be the steamed little dumplings. I used to order those noodles all the time, but unfortunately, my last visit was less than stellar. They did not have enoki mushrooms but another kind. It was disappointing. But still, it's a good option for Asian (Chinese) comfort food in the Chinatown area read more

Came on Sunday night at 9pm (they close at 10pm) and it was busy! After waiting 10 minutes, we got seated and unfortunately were told they were out of white rice - no substitutions were offered and they were pretty blunt about it. Unsure if it's because it was a busier weekend than they anticipated but I decided to get noodle dishes instead. I also saw reviews about enoki mushrooms being subbed with other mushrooms - that was still the case when I was there. Went with the spicy lamb and spicy beef noodles and their much hyped XLB. Everything arrived at the table at once piping hot. The noodles were both delicious with really great flavors - I do wish the beef bowl came with some type of veggie to create a more balanced meal. The chicken XLB were tasty but was hastily positioned in the steamer - you can see how some baos were touching the edges and the Napa cabbage didn't properly protect the bottoms from the wood steamer. This meant half of my XLBs ripped and the precious soup was lost :( Prices here are very reasonable but I wish they'd focus a little more on quality of presentation and execution. I'd come back to try this place because the food is delicious, but I hope my next experience is better. read more

Located in Chinatown Square. Resturaunt was busy, but there was a fast turn around , about at 15 - 20 min. wait. Friendly staff, waitress was very attentive. Food arrived in a timely matter. They serve the food as soon as its cooked so dishes arrived one after another and that's ok in our party of 5. The Xiao Long Bao, pork and crab - soup dumpling was soft and it busted with flavor as soon as you pop the dumpling in your mouth. Careful, though the food is fresh and very hot off the stove ! The chicken soup dumpling was also delicious The sesame chicken was cooked well one entre can be shared with others, but I suggest to order another small bowl of rice to feed more than 1 person. The flat noodles with beef and brocolli lacked flavor and the noodles seemed too wet and overcooked. The Dan Dan noodles were excellent. It had the traditional fresh pulled noodles and you can taste the chewy, firm texture of the noodles. The broth and ground meat in the Dan Dan had great flavor . Overall good food, fast service and the prices for the amount t of food you get is excellent. read more
Overall: 3.5/5 First time here and I didn't know what to expect. There was a line just to get a table and was told it would take 10 minutes. It didn't -- it lasted maybe 20mins to even get a table. As for the service, we were ordered and got our food pretty quickly. We ordered the pork and crab soup dumplings, shu mai, and spicy salt and pepper squid. The soup dumplings and shu mai were pretty good and fresh. The salt and pepper squid was good too and it came with rice! All were pretty inexpensive too. As for our service, I felt like our server neglected us multiple times. There was a point I noticed with my partner that one order of soup dumplings was missing and we were told "gimme a sec" due our server taking a call and literally forgetting us. I get it if it's busy but it's another thing if you don't check in your table time and time again. Overall, I think I'd come here for the food if it wasn't busy and there wasn't a line. Otherwise, I'd look for another spot that has most attentive staff and less of a wait. read more
Maybe it's the food I ordered, but I did not enjoy the dishes as much as I'd hoped. Flavors were too similar, pretty close to American Chinese food. It was also really cold out and the restaurant interior was not much warmer. Water had a small fly in it. Would not recommend. read more
Possibly the worst Chinese food/restaurants I've had/been to in Chicago. Let's start with service. Our server speaks cantonese, I believe, so when we requested turning on the heat she switched to Cantonese so we wouldn't be able to understand what she was saying , and of course, the heat wasn't turned on... In terms of food, I wasn't sure what kind of food they serve as they have dim sum, sichuan, Chinese street food and Japanese... Pretty confusing right? We ordered xiao long bao(soup dumplings) as everybody else, string beans and chili oil chicken (a cold appetizer). There were chunks of fat in each dumpling which was kinda disgusting. The chicken was barely edible as it was all bones and the meat wasn't tender at all. Worst of all, the chicken meat wasn't cleaned up well as there were still hairs left... Not sure what style the string beans were, definitely not sichuan style as the name suggested. Please work on your food and service. read more

Order - Pork soup dumplings (5/5) - Pork & crab soup dumplings (4/5) - Walnut shrimp (4/5) - Beef chow fun (3/5) Overall - soup dumplings are hard to come by in the midwest even in Chicago...I didn't realize until this summer that Hing Kee had legit fresh soup dumplings. I will be back for more - pork soup dumplings were better than pork and crab. I love the xiao long bao. I could eat another. Makes you wanna eat it over and over again. As for the fatty beef and enoki mushroom, am not such a fan of the taste. But it's just my personal taste. We just ordered pick up so we didn't eat inside the resto. But their tables were full, and more people waiting outside. They have nice ambiance inside. read more

We tried the shrimp and pork soup dumplings, braised beef hand pulled noodle soup, crab rangoon, beef skewers, and Hong Kong milk tea. Everything was good and super filling. Loved the fresh pulled noodles. Beef soup was not as amazing as my favorite place in Mesa AZ but tasty. Crab rangoons were delicious. The grilled skewers were deep-fried instead of grilled and very dry. Dumplings has great texture and flavor. Milk tea was nice and strong. Would definitely return! read more

This restaurant is in the heart of Chinatown in Chicago. It came highly recommended. The restaurant was smallish but had plenty of seating. Once seated, the waitress promptly brought out waters. Because of the waitresses recommendation, I ordered the house special beef pho. The broth was flavorful and I liked that there were actual onions in the soup, not just scallions. What I didn't like was the meat was extremely fatty. In fact, I didn't even eat most of it. I would not get this again. May husband got the Dan Dan noodles. The broth was spicy and flavorful. Dinner date with Friends. Been to Chinatown Square many times and would usually go to the occasional spots. This definitely will be on list Appetizers Shumai was delicious may be the tastiest I've ever had Chicken and Sweet Corn Soup- was also good no complaints Shrimp Toast- Was okay wish it had more shrimp inside Soup Dumplings is what brought us here. May be the best i've had in Chicago. Came for the soup dumplings and stayed for basically everything else! Split a bunch of food with my husband and two friends and we enjoyed everything we ate. Definitely get the two varieties of soup dumplings, and also the wontons in the Szechuan chili oil!! Fave items. We split a lot, and everything was delicious without a crazy bill at the end. Best place to go to on a rainy day. I ordered the Braised Beef Traditional Hand-Pulled Noodle Soup and it definitely hit the spot. The broth was very rich, the beef was tender, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The food options are decently priced for the portion sizes that they serve. I ended up taking it home as leftovers because it filled me up fast. Will definitely come back! read more

Walking through Chinatown looking for dumplings is a task in a half. Hing-kee was actually recommended by one of the associates in a boba shop. The menu was mostly in Chinese but the young lady behind the counter assisted us. The restaurant was packed so we order ours to go. We got 12 chicken dumplings. This was the first time we had soup dumplings. Absolutely yummy!! read more
Came here with my parents just for the soup dumplings! They always seem to know where the hole in the wall, good places are. Per their suggestions, they often say that ordering soup dumplings/ wontons in this area that include crab are often previously frozen, so we opted for pork only. Personally we thought they were pretty great for being US made! We also ordered scallion pancakes as well, which were authentic, crispy, and delicious! I will say their line system was a little old school by just listing on a piece of paper the table number with no way to contact you (limiting your ability to browse other areas while you wait). BIGGEST GRIEVANCE unfortunately was the cleanliness. I'm definitely a frequent visitor of Chicago Chinatown so I know it's always a little grimy. With this place being pretty small, the walls of the hallway leading to the bathroom had several tiny gnats covering them... just glad I didn't see it before I ate! read more
On a busy day in China town, we waited about 20mins to be seated. Our food came out pretty fast. We ordered the Xiao long bao and Shrimp tempura udon noodle soup. The food was alright. Service was fast. Mainly tried this place for the soup dumplings. It was decent. read more

I've been here 3-5 times. I always get the customizable noodle soup, it always turns out 3/5 even after changing ingredients every time I visit Hing Kee. This salt and pepper shrimp was okay. I was hoping that the shell would be super brittle and crumble instantly in my mouth. Boba is okay. Workers are good. Overall: a Good place when you're drunk and it's late and nothings open. Interior looks well decorated and they have a captivating green neon sign that entices people to come in. read more
Ordered delivery on yelp. Didn't get order confirmation so had to call to make sure they got it and when it would be delivered. Ordered the following: Honey walnut shrimp: looked good but a little to fishy flavor of shrimp than I typically prefer. BBq pork fried rice: very tasty would get again. Sweet and sour pork: made perfectly, yummy fresh veggies and pineapple, and nice bite size pieces with good amounts of batter to meat ratio. Egg drop soup: very tasty and a small was plenty for two. Came with free steamed rice. Would order again if craving and usual place is closed. read more

We love coming here for the soup dumplings! They are plump and juicy (as compared to the rival QXY). Since we last came they did a partial renovation so it feels a little more upscale inside while still being a lil divey. The menu has a vast variety so something for everyone. read more

Hands. Down. My favorite restaurant in Chinatown. I always want to try somewhere new and end up being completely underwhelmed in comparison. It has on of the biggest dumpling selections outside of Triple Crown (if anyone knows any other great dim sum spots let me know!) and has amazing sushi and other dishes as well. This last visit I had one of the most incredible waitresses as well, I wish I would have gotten her name. I wish I had better pictures of all the food I had because I truly can't stop myself there. read more
Overall the service could improve, they hardly come to check on you unless you physically call them. The food was ok, the string beans were cooked just about right, the sauce is not overpowering. The veggie egg rolls were to dry for my taste, they were over cooked. The noodle soup was good, nice an hot. read more

I love this place! Since we went on a weekday, it wasn't as busy as the weekends and we had great service. When you first walk in there's someone wrapping and steaming the soup dumplings at the front of the store so you know it's fresh af. We ordered pork and crab xiao long bao, and they were delicious. Very soupy inside with great flavor. We got the eggplant and pork as our veggie dish, and although a little too much cornstach for my liking, the overall taste was okay. Would probably try a different one if I went back. We also got the rice cakes which was cooked to the perfect chewy texture. Overall, I would definitely recommend for the soup dumplings! read more

Food: Phenomenal. And very reasonably priced! They close around 9:30 but the host was able to seat us last minute. They also run out of dumplings so I would recommend going earlier during dinner time. The crab rangoons were one of my favorites on their menu it had such a good balance of cream cheese and crab meat flavor. The scallion pancakes are also a MUST here very crispy and flavorful. The vegetable dumplings were nice nothing out of the world. The tuna sushi was also alright I was obsessed with the chili oil dumplings in schezwuan sauce and so many came in an order! I would highly recommend The chicken soup dumplings were also amazing and you have to order them if you come here.
